New school timings for winter announced in Punjab

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced that schools across the province will follow new timings during the winter season.

Taking to X, he shared that schools will open at 8:45 a.m. and close at 1:30 p.m. The Punjab School Education Department is expected to issue an official notification soon.

The new schedule aims to protect students from cold weather and make mornings easier as temperatures continue to drop across Punjab.

Rana Sikandar Hayat has been regularly sharing updates on education reforms and administrative decisions on social media to keep parents and teachers informed.

Similar winter adjustments were made in previous years to help students avoid exposure to the cold during early school hours.

Nadia Khan says ‘relieved’ over action against Ducky Bhai, urges youth to ‘work hard instead of shortcuts’

Pakistani actor and television host Nadia Khan has said that YouTuber Saad Ur Rehman aka Ducky Bhai’s gambling apps promotion case should serve as a lesson for youngsters “to work hard instead of looking for shortcuts”.

Speaking on one of her shows, Khan discussed the recent crackdown against influencers for promoting said apps and called the case “an example for youth”.

“Those who think that no action will be taken in Pakistan and everything is easy, should see how Ducky Bhai is being questioned and how Rjab Butt may be brought back to Pakistan via Interpol,” she said, questioning what good were billions of rupees that brought disgrace and humiliation.

“You built a name, you got fans and they turned on you. And now the financial damage Ducky Bhai is suffering, how will he ever make it up? Money may come overnight but so does responsibility.”

“Our parents taught us that money earned easily and without hard work always disappears quickly. When you earn money slowly and through effort, it holds value and brings responsibility,” she said and added that as a mother, she felt “relieved” because millions of children were being influenced especially by Ducky Bhai who “made them believe that education would get you nowhere”.

She also called on youngsters to focus on studies, gradually earning respect and money through hard work and dedication.

Nadia’s comments come as Ducky Bhai continues facing legal troubles for promoting unauthorised gambling and betting applications.

In August, he was arrested from Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport while attempting to leave the country.

The FIR filed against him cited 27 video links allegedly promoting apps such as Binomo, 1xBet and B9 Game – platforms accused of defrauding users and operating without regulatory approval in Pakistan.

His physical remand has been extended several times as investigators examine his mobile phones, laptop and financial records.

His wife Aroob Jatoi among other influencers have also been nominated in similar cases.

  • Kh Asif warns of all-out war with Afghanistan if negotiations fail

Kh Asif warns of all-out war with Afghanistan if negotiations fail

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has warned of an all-out war with Afghanistan if ongoing negotiations between Islamabad and Kabul fail to resolve issues that led to clashes reported earlier this month.

Speaking to journalists in Sialkot, the defence minister said that the country’s armed forces and police were sacrificing their lives to safeguard the nation, and the reason we sleep peacefully is because our protectors remain vigilant.

“Pakistan hosted Afghans for 40 years, and those we are negotiating with in Doha all grew up in Pakistan,” he said in reference to negotiations taking place since after a ceasefire that put cross-border clashes on hold starting last weekend.

The two countries agreed to the ceasefire in Doha after days of border clashes that killed dozens, the worst such violence since the Taliban seized power in Kabul in 2021.

Taliban forces, along with India-backed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), had resorted to an unprovoked attack on Pakistan, prompting a strong response from Islamabad. At least 200 Afghan Taliban and affiliated militants were killed in said clashes while 23 Pakistani soldiers embraced martyrdom.

The attacks that came as Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi was on an official visit to India, ended with the ceasefire agreed to at the request of Afghan Taliban on the evening of Oct 15.

Ground fighting between the one-time allies and Pakistani airstrikes across their contested 2,600-kilometre frontier were triggered after Islamabad demanded that Kabul control terrorists it says operate from safe havens in Afghanistan.

On Saturday, Asif questioned why, despite all hospitality, Afghanistan was resorting to such behavior towards Pakistan, alleging that the country was acting as a proxy for India against Pakistan.

He further claimed that Afghan refugees had taken over employment and business opportunities during their stay on this side of the border.

Saying Pakistan only had one agenda – to achieve regional peace while living in harmony with its neighbours – Asif noted that no terror incidents had taken place over the past four or five days. He, however, reiterated that if negotiations fail, the country will be in an all-out war with Afghanistan.

It may be noted that the defence minister’s statements come as Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban are set to hold the second round of talks in Türkiye later in the day to discuss the establishment of a concrete and verifiable monitoring mechanism aimed at countering the threat of terrorism.

According to reports, Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Tahir Andarabi and Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid have confirmed the meeting, which will take place in Istanbul.

“The second round of talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan will be held in Istanbul, Türkiye. The purpose of this dialogue is to stop terrorism originating from Afghan soil against Pakistan and prevent further loss of Pakistani lives,” read a statement issued by the FO.

Last week, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif also said that the ball was in Afghanistan’s court for a permanent end to cross-border hostilities.

Addressing a federal cabinet meeting on Pak-Afghan border tensions, the premier said that Pakistan remained ready to hold talks with the Taliban regime on reasonable terms, adding that the recent cross-border aggression from Afghan side was at India’s behest.

“Unfortunately, despite all efforts, [Taliban regime in] Afghanistan did not prioritise peace and adopted the path of aggression,” reports quoted the premier as saying during the meeting.

Highlighting the recent spike in terror incidents in the country, he said Pakistan had to launch a full-scale retaliatory action as patience had run out amid Afghan Taliban regime’s inaction over Islamabad’s concerns.

Indian nurse jailed in Singapore for harassing patient’s attendant

An Indian-origin nurse in Singapore has been sentenced to 14 months in jail and caning for sexually harassing a young male attendant at a hospital.

According to media reports, the incident took place on June 18, 2025, at Raffles Hospital. The 34-year-old nurse, identified as Elipe Siva Nagu, allegedly harassed the young attendant of a patient under the pretext of using disinfectant spray in the washroom.

The victim was shocked by the incident and immediately informed his grandfather, who was admitted to the hospital. The patient then reported the matter to hospital authorities, who alerted the police.

Police arrested the nurse two days later, while hospital management terminated her employment.

During the court hearing, the prosecution argued that “this crime not only harmed the victim but also damaged the environment of the hospital, so strict punishment is necessary.”

The court found Elipe Siva Nagu guilty and sentenced her to 14 months in prison along with corporal punishment.

Tent Pegging Championship 2025 kicks off in Lahore

Celebrating Pakistan’s rich equestrian heritage, the Bravehearts Tent Pegging Championship 2025 has kicked off at Lahore’s Fortress Stadium, featuring riders and clubs from across the country.

Tent pegging, which dates back to ancient cavalry warfare, remains a proud part of Pakistan’s rural and military traditions. The sport involves riders galloping at full speed to strike and lift wooden pegs using a lance or sword.

The game originated in Afghanistan and comes from the ancient approach towards warfare. While some origin stories call it a technique used by warriors to attack the tents of their enemies, others claim it was an exercise for target practice enabling warriors to attack elephant feet during battle.

As part of the event in Lahore, participants are showcasing skill, speed and precision while putting up a spectacular display for audiences.

The event comes months after the Pakistan national tent pegging team won the International Tent Pegging Championship 2025, organised by the Pakistan Equestrian Federation under the supervision of the International Tent Pegging Federation.

Among the top participants are Chaudhary Ali Ahmed, Muhammad Naveed Butt (Horse Teeraz), Muhammad Waqas Tiwana (Horse Fajar), Chaudhary Hasham Attaullah (Horse Al Murtajiz), Malik Tahir Irfan (Horse Shan-e-Sodagar), Malik Abdullah (Horse Tiger), Raja Zarar Sajjad, Syed Qutab Ali Shah Bukhari, Sardar Ahmed Dogar, Murad Abbas Chawan from Multan Horsemanship Club and Umair Khan Yousafzai, captain of Pukhtoon Ghazi Club (KP).

Other participating clubs include the Asia Tent Pegging Club (Bahawalpur), Naich Tent Pegging Club, Kingdom Saddle Club (Lahore), and the Arabian Equestrian Club of Pakistan.

The championship is being held under the supervision of Chief Organiser Ijaz Ramay while Ahsan Ullah Joyia serves as the coach of Bravehearts Horsemanship Club.

  • You could lose access to your digital bank account, wallet starting today

You could lose access to your digital bank account, wallet starting today

With new biometric verification regulations by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) coming into effect, millions of Pakistanis could be losing access to their digital bank accounts and wallets starting today.

According to reports, the move aimed at streamlining account opening and onboarding processes while strengthening anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing efforts, effectively ends the 60-day period earlier offered to account holders to complete biometric verification.

Under the new framework, customers who have not completed biometric verification by October 25 could face blocking of their accounts, including immediate service disruptions and the inability to send or receive funds.

The SBP’s updated rules issued July, require all banks, digital banks, microfinance banks, development finance institutions and electronic money institutions to make biometric verification the primary method for customer identification.

The central bank’s ‘Consolidated Customer Onboarding Framework’ now applies to both in-branch and remote onboarding for individuals and entities, covering local and foreign currency accounts.

The framework mandates a unified approach to customer due diligence, regardless of how the account was opened. These requirements are mandatory for all SBP-regulated entities, including banks, DFIs, microfinance banks, digital banks, and electronic money institutions.

Earlier, financial institutions were given three months to comply with the new requirements designed to enhance the integrity of the country’s financial system.

With no deadline extension announced, experts warn that tens of millions of accounts could be affected, including foreign currency and Roshan Digital Accounts.

  • Barcelona’s Raphinha ruled out of El Clásico

Barcelona’s Raphinha ruled out of El Clásico

Barcelona winger Raphinha will miss Sunday’s Clásico against Real Madrid after suffering a setback while recovering from a hamstring injury.

The Brazilian felt discomfort during training earlier this week, Spanish media reports have stated.

Raphinha has been out for about a month and may not return before the international break. He last played in Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Real Oviedo on September 25.

Barcelona’s injury list continues to grow, with Robert Lewandowski, Joan Garcia, Gavi, Dani Olmo, and Marc-André ter Stegen all unavailable for the trip to the Santiago Bernabéu. Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen also remain doubtful for the match.

Head coach Hansi Flick will miss the game as well after failing to overturn his red card. Assistant coach Marcus Sorg will take charge on the touchline and handle pre-match press duties.

The top-of-the-table clash will be the first Clásico of the season, with Real Madrid currently two points ahead of Barcelona. The result is expected to play a key role in shaping the early title race.

After the Madrid fixture, Barcelona will face Elche, Club Brugge, and Celta Vigo before the international break. The club has not announced a specific return date for Raphinha but expects him to need a few more weeks of recovery.

Barcelona’s medical staff will monitor Raphinha’s progress closely, as hamstring injuries often require careful management to avoid recurrence.

  • ‘Abducted’ cybercrime officer was investigating Ducky Bhai, court told

‘Abducted’ cybercrime officer was investigating Ducky Bhai, court told

Officials have told the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that missing National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Deputy Director Muhammad Usman was investigating important cases, including the one against popular YouTuber Saadur Rehman aka Ducky Bhai.

As per the details, District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Legal Sajid Cheema informed the court that investigations were “underway” to trace the NCCIA official, adding that the senior superintendent of police investigation was looking into the matter.

“The missing deputy director was investigating the Ducky Bhai case,” the DSP said, adding that the “rest of the people investigating this case are also missing” and the police station investigating the case was in Lahore.

It merits a mention that the case stems from a first information report (FIR) registered at Shams Colony Police Station on the complaint of the missing officer’s wife Rozina Usman. In her complaint, she said that her husband was taken away by four unidentified armed men on October 14.

Rozina said that the incident took place at around 7:30 pm when the armed men arrived in a white car and abducted her husband on gunpoint.

During the hearing on Friday, the lawyer representing Rozina, Advocate Raja Rizwan Abbasi, told the court that she had also disappeared after filing the petition.

DSP Cheema added that Rozina was previously in Lahore and then in Islamabad, according to data available till October 18. He said that her last known location was Empress Road in Lahore, after which her phone had been switched off.

The hearing was conducted by Justice Muhammad Azam Khan, who gave a three-day ultimatum to the police in the federal capital for Usman’s recovery.

During the hearing, Justice Khan remarked that the court aimed to solve the issue rather than merely give dates.

Hearing the case for the first time on October 20, Justice Khan had said that the Islamabad IG and the NCCIA’s central officers should appear before the court in person if the police were unable to recover him within three days.

The court has adjourned the hearing of the case until October 31, giving the authorities an extra week to recover the missing officer.

  • Pakistani stars cleared to play Big Bash League

Pakistani stars cleared to play Big Bash League

Pakistani cricketers signed by Big Bash League (BBL) teams have received clearance to participate in the upcoming season after earlier concerns that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) would not issue No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for overseas leagues.

In late September, PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmad Syed issued a notice to players and agents stating that the board would temporarily stop granting NOCs for foreign T20 leagues. The move raised doubts about the participation of several Pakistani stars in the BBL.

However, Cricket Australia Chief Executive Todd Greenberg confirmed on Saturday that the issue had been resolved.

“That came through last week,” Greenberg said. “So they’ll all be playing, they’ve all been cleared to play, which we’re really excited about because we’ve got some great Pakistan players in the BBL, so looking forward to seeing them here this summer.”

Babar Azam (Sydney Sixers), Shaheen Shah Afridi (Brisbane Heat), Hasan Ali (Adelaide Strikers), Mohammad Rizwan (Melbourne Renegades), Haris Rauf (Melbourne Stars) and Shadab Khan (Sydney Thunder) will represent their respective franchises in the tournament.

The BBL is scheduled to begin on December 14 and will continue January 25, 2026.
