Miss Palestine to ‘carry the voice of Gaza’ in Miss Universe pageant

Miss Palestine Nadeen Ayoub is set to become the first woman to represent Palestine at the Miss Universe pageant, marking a historic moment for the nation on the global stage.

The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) said in a statement sent to CNN that it was “pleased to confirm” that Ayoub would compete in the Miss Universe 2025 competition, which takes place in November.

“The Miss Universe Organization proudly welcomes delegates from across the globe, celebrating diversity, cultural exchange, and the empowerment of women,” Miguel Ángel Martínez, MUO’s head of communications, wrote in an email to CNN.

Ayoub will join competitors from more than 130 other countries and territories at the 74th Miss Universe final, which will be held on November 21 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Ayoub, now 27, was crowned Miss Palestine back in 2022.

In an Instagram post, Ayoub said she wanted to be a voice for the Palestinian people.

“I am honored to announce that for the first time ever, Palestine will be represented at Miss Universe,” she wrote in the caption.

“As Palestine endures heartbreak — especially in Gaza — I carry the voice of a people who refuse to be silenced. I represent every Palestinian woman and child whose strength the world needs to see,” Ayoub added.

“We are more than our suffering — we are resilience, hope, and the heartbeat of a homeland that lives on through us.”

The decision to include a Palestinian entry in the beauty pageant comes amid growing international criticism of Israel’s atrocities in Gaza. More than 67,000 Palestinians have been killed in two years, with thousands still under rubble. At least 20,000 children are among the dead.

Her decision to join the Miss Universe pageant is widely applauded as she will become the voice of Palestinians on an international forum.

As per an official statement, the delegation, led by Prince Mansour bin Mohammed Al Saud, attended the Islamabad meeting organised under the Saudi-Pakistan Joint Business Council, with support from the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and the Ministry of Commerce.

The Saudi delegation included prominent business figures representing minerals, energy, agriculture and livestock, construction, infrastructure, tourism and real estate. Leading Pakistani entrepreneurs and private-sector representatives also attended the meeting, reflecting mutual resolve to expand bilateral trade and investment ties.

Lahore police decides to crack down on ‘dala culture’

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana has ordered a crackdown on the public display of arms and the menace of “Dala Culture” to impress and threaten the public.

Chairing a meeting to review the monthly performance of Civil Lines and Model Town police divisions, the top cop directed DIG (Operations) Faisal Kamran to initiate wide-ranging operations to eliminate the unlawful presence of armed individuals and suppress elements involved in promoting a culture of intimidation and lawlessness.

Emphasising the importance of targeted action against narcotics, he directed officials to backtrack drug-related cases to uncover and dismantle larger smuggling networks.

“There must be no leniency towards drug dealers. Tracing their links is crucial for long-term results,” he said and stressed the need for efficient public service at police front desks, ensuring all applications are addressed promptly.

“Officers must maintain direct contact with complainants to guarantee timely and impartial justice,” he said.

On street crime, the CCPO Kamyana ordered intensified patrolling in hotspot areas and the full utilisation of the police’s surveillance software Hotel Eye to monitor suspicious activities.

In light of security challenges, he directed taking preventive measures at banks, commercial centres and other locations across the city.

The meeting was also attended by DIG (Admin) Imran Kishwar, DIG (Investigation) Zeeshan Raza, SSP (Investigation) Muhammad Naveed as well as relevant SPs, ASPs, Circle Officers and SHOs.

  • Gandapur sacked as CM for ending up on wrong side of Bushra Bibi, Aleema Khan: Ansar Abbasi

Gandapur sacked as CM for ending up on wrong side of Bushra Bibi, Aleema Khan: Ansar Abbasi

After weeks of reported rifts within the ranks of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has resigned as the provincial chief executive on jailed party founder Imran Khan’ orders.

Amid speculation on the reason behind his sacking and the PTI’s claims of no divides within the party, senior journalist and analyst Ansar has said the development is a “stark reminder of how perilous it can be for even a powerful figure in PTI to end up on the wrong side of the two women closest to incarcerated Khan”.

“The once-fiery PTI stalwart had little political ground left to stand on after a bruising, power struggle with Aleema Khan and an old rift with Bushra Bibi that never truly healed,” Abbasi wrote for The News.

He said that tensions between Gandapur and Bushra Bibi had been simmering since last year when the PTI leadership decided to lead a protest march to Islamabad’s D-Chowk.

The demonstration had turned bloody after Bushra Bibi had overruled Gandapur and pushed for the march to continue to the heart of the capital despite the latter’s advice to stop at Sangjani on security and strategic grounds.

This, Abbasi said, was the first visible sign that Gandapur’s authority within the party was challenged by Bushra Bibi, who, despite the CM’s reluctance, had joined the march and led it too.

The rift deepened when Bushra Bibi publicly claimed that she had been “left alone” at D-Chowk during the tense standoff — a statement Gandapur publicly rejected. “I was with her from beginning to end,” he had told reporters.

Gandapur, the journalist said, was also upset with the interference into political matters by Bushra Bibi during her stay in Peshawar despite a lack of support from within the party as Imran Khan always trusted her the most.

The more serious confrontation, Abbasi maintained, was recently when Gandapur openly accused Khan’s sister Aleema of engineering a rift within the PTI, further alleging that she was being facilitated by the Military Intelligence (MI) and “establishment.”

“Imran Khan is my leader and I am loyal to him. It is my right to convey the truth to him … I made him aware of all that has been happening [during my meeting with him yesterday],” Gandapur had said in a video statement.

The KP CM said that he had conveyed to the party founder that Aleema had a big role in dividing the party and some members being discredited. He also alleged that no steps were being taken for Khan’s release. “Instead, there is groupism in party which some people are using to serve their own interests.”

He alleged that Aleema was in contact with “vloggers” working to create divide in the party. “And instead of stopping them… she is provoking them. And Hafeezullah Niazi sahib refers to Aleema Khan as the prime minister in his articles. He writes that she should become the party chairperson,” he alleged.

Days later, Khan had reportedly told Gandapur and Aleema to avoid issuing statements against each other.

The film’s poster was released last month, five years after the shooting of the film, hinting at its imminent release.

The film is written and directed by Ammar Rasool and produced by Usaf Shariq, with Fawad Khan and Hassaan Khalid serving as executive producers. The movie’s background score has been composed by Zeeshan (Vicky) Haider.

Neelofar has been in the making since 2019. The film faced significant delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which halted production with just 10 days of shooting left. Filming resumed in late 2020 and was completed soon after, with many scenes shot in the picturesque winter streets of Lahore, particularly the historic Walled City.

With the official release date now locked in, excitement is at an all-time high. Fans and fellow celebrities have taken to social media to celebrate the news. Actress Ramsha Khan exclaimed, “Yaaaaaaaas,” while Amina Sheikh, Asim Raza, and Ghana Ali shared their excitement, with Ghana calling Fawad and Mahira her “favorite duo.”

  • ‘That’s all folks’: PML-N-PPP war ends with top-level meeting at Zardari House

‘That’s all folks’: PML-N-PPP war ends with top-level meeting at Zardari House

After trading barbs for weeks, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have agreed to a “ceasefire” following an emergency meeting between senior leaders from both sides.

The breakthrough came as PML-N scrambled a delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, to Zardari House in Nawabshah. National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi were also a part of the meeting that came two days after President Asif Ali Zardari intervened to ease the growing rift between the Sindh and Punjab governments.

During the meeting, reports said, President Zardari urged the government delegation to advise their party members to exercise restraint, saying they did not want matters to worsen. The PML-N team made the same request, agreeing that both sides should listen to each other before making any public statements.

Reports said Dar was instrumental in clearing the air between the parties and understanding reached was intended to halt the cycle of tit-for-tat statements that started over flood compensation through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), going on to dominate political headlines for weeks.

The PPP had been calling for the provision of aid to flood victims via BISP — a proposition turned down by the Punjab government. The situation intensified after Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz said other parties were using flood devastation in the province for political mileage.

Her sharp retorts prompted the PPP leadership in both the Senate and the National Assembly to stage walkouts and issue veiled threats of withdrawing from the coalition. They also demanded that CM Maryam apologised for her remarks, which was ruled out by the Punjab chief executive.

She maintained that as the CM, she would defend Punjab and would not apologise for speaking up for her province. CM Maryam also asserted that those who mocked the province during natural calamities should themselves seek forgiveness.

PML-N ministers also retaliated by raising questions on Sindh’s governance record under the PPP.

Amid the war of words, the president had earlier this week held a telephonic conversation with Naqvi to discuss the ongoing tensions and the fate of the ruling coalition.

  • Pakistan’s Ihsanullah challenges India’s Abhishek Sharma

Pakistan’s Ihsanullah challenges India’s Abhishek Sharma

Pakistani right-arm pacer Ihsanullah has issued a bold challenge to India’s in-form opener Abhishek Sharma, claiming he could dismiss the left-hander within just three balls.

The 22-year-old fast bowler expressed confidence in his ability to trouble the Indian batter, saying, “Abhishek Sharma has not played in front of me. He will not survive for more than six deliveries. I will dismiss him within three balls of my over.”

Ihsanullah made his T20I debut for Pakistan on March 24, 2023, against Afghanistan, while his only ODI appearance came against New Zealand in April the same year.

Since then, he has featured in four T20I matches and one ODI but has yet to make a comeback to the national side in the last two years. With Pakistan’s busy international calendar ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 and ODI World Cup 2027, Ihsanullah appears eager to impress selectors for a return to the team.

Abhishek Sharma has been in sensational form for India. The left-handed opener dominated Asia Cup 2025, scoring over 300 runs in the tournament.

Within a year of his T20I debut, Abhishek climbed to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings and broke Dawid Malan’s record for the highest-ever rating points in the format, reaching 926.

Despite his remarkable form, Abhishek has been left out of India’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, with Yashasvi Jaiswal getting the nod instead.

However, he will return to action in the T20I series, where he is expected to open alongside Shubman Gill. The series will also mark Abhishek’s debut on Australian soil, where he will be tested against pace and bounce.

  • Afghan foreign minister arrives in India on official visit

Afghan foreign minister arrives in India on official visit

Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has arrived in New Delhi for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and discussing regional issues.

“We look forward to engaging discussions with him on bilateral relations and regional issues,” Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X.

Muttaqi, who is scheduled to remain in India until October 16, is expected to meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

The visit had been planned a few weeks ago but was delayed as Muttaqi initially did not receive a travel exemption from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Last week, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that the UNSC Committee had granted the exemption, enabling Muttaqi’s travel to India.

The meeting comes at a time when new alliances seem to be forming in the region, largely pushing India into isolation since after New Delhi’s crushing defeat against Islamabad in May’s military clashes.

Muttaqi is also expected to speak with Indian business representatives, visit the ancient monument to love, the Taj Mahal, and a historic Islamic seminary, media said.

He arrives in New Delhi after talks in Moscow with diplomats from Afghanistan’s neighbours, who appeared to unite against United States (US) President Donald Trump’s stated aim of taking over the Bagram military base near Kabul, the capital.

Russia is the only country to have yet recognised the Taliban administration, whose members are under UN sanctions including a travel ban and asset freeze, including Muttaqi.

Historically, India and Afghanistan have had friendly ties but New Delhi does not recognise the Taliban and shut its embassy in Kabul after the US withdrawal from the war-shattered country in 2021.

New Delhi opened a small mission a year later to ease the way for trade, medical support and humanitarian aid, while its senior officials have held two-way talks with Taliban leaders.

  • Amar Khan slams Indian trolls, backs Deepika Padukone amid vicious backlash

Amar Khan slams Indian trolls, backs Deepika Padukone amid vicious backlash

Pakistani actor Amar Khan has voiced her support for Indian star Deepika Padukone, who is facing intense trolling from hardline Hindutva elements from India.

The Bollywood superstar is being targeted for an advertisement she filmed alongside her husband, actor Ranveer Singh, that has snowballed into a social media storm. Padukone is seen wearing an Abaya and a Hijab in the ad as she admires the stunning architecture of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

Taking to Instagram stories, Amar replied to a sarcastic Tweet on X (formerly Twitter) which said: “An average ‘woke feminist’ when she actually doesn’t have a choice.”

“It isn’t a woke feminist! It’s a human from a country which has 1/3 Muslims, respecting all religions. Bravo Deepika, what a shame this current politics in India is stooping to,” she said this while referring to the toxic, hate-filled politics of the Narendra Modi-led government towards Muslims.

Critics have accused Deepika of hypocrisy, questioning how someone who advocates for women’s freedom could “submit” to religious customs. Many are referencing her “My Choice” campaign for Vogue India back in 2015, suggesting that wearing a Hijab contradicts her feminist stance.

But others are saying that the critics are missing one point and that is “choice”. On various religious occasions or visits, she wore traditional attire – Banarasi sarees, hand-woven fabrics, and elegant suits. Some said that if she can wear gowns at Cannes, she can wear “anything”.

One user wrote on X: “It’s a woman’s choice whether she wants to wear a bikini on the beach, a hijab in a mosque, or a lehenga with a choli at weddings. If you don’t understand this, then the problem is with you, not with women, and definitely not with Deepika Padukone. By the way, she looks so beautiful in a hijab.”

Deepika Padukone hasn’t commented on the issue as yet.

Bride dies after being ‘forced to drink acid’ over dowry demands

A tragic incident unfolded in the Kalaske area of Wazirabad on Wednesday when a newlywed bride named Rukhsar was allegedly murdered by her in-laws by forcing her to drink acid.

According to reports, Rukhsar, a resident of Gujranwala, married Altaf from Kalaske on September 12, 2025. According to the victim’s family, her in-laws became incensed after Rukhsar failed to bring clothes in dowry upon her return.

The victim’s brother-in-law and mother-in-law taunted Rukhsar over the perceived slight. The brother of the deceased bride came forward, explicitly accusing Altaf Hussain and his mother Ghulam Zohra of forcing his sister to consume acid.

Following the assault, Rukhsar was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ). Despite medical efforts, she tragically succumbed and died.

Ahmad Nagar Chattha Police Station took action and subsequently arrested the her husband Altaf Hussain and his mother Ghulam Zohra.

In his official statement to the police, the husband rejected the grave allegation, asserting that neither he nor his mother forced Rukhsar to drink acid.

He claimed that she had consumed the corrosive substance on her own. The investigation is now underway.
