    1 bln meals initiative begins distribution in five countries

    The 1 Billion Meals initiative, which aims to provide food support to the underprivileged and undernourished in 50 countries around the world, announced that it has started distributing foodstuffs, food parcels in Lebanon, India, Jordan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

    The initiative, which was launched at the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan and organized by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), has started distribution in the four countries in cooperation with the Food Banking Regional Network (FBRN), the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment (MBRCH).

    The FBRN has started distributing long-term food items and food parcels with storable ingredients to the beneficiaries of the 1 Billion Meals initiative. Whereas MBRCH is distributing food parcels containing basic staples such as flour, rice, oil, sugar and dates to beneficiaries.

    Accurate Databases

    The 1 Billion Meals initiative provides beneficiaries with basic necessities needed for the preparation of nutritious meals or instant electronic vouchers for food supplies in cooperation with relevant local authorities in beneficiary countries. This coordination ensures the efficiency of distribution operations and, by taking advantage of technology applications, also provides direct access to the communities most in need based on comprehensive and accurate databases.

    Donations Continue

    The distribution of food parcels coincides with the arrival of contributions and donations to the 1 Billion Meals initiative from individuals, institutions, companies, businessmen and pioneers of charity and humanitarian work. These donations embody the values of the UAE and its generous society, which is keen to express solidarity with those in need without discrimination between race, religion or geographical region.

    The launch of the 1 Billion Meals initiative and the start of its distribution operations are part of the message of MBRGI, whose humanitarian goals are based on giving without any exception on the basis of gender, race, belief or region. The initiative falls under the pillar of Humanitarian Aid and Relief, one of the five main themes focused on by MBRGI.

  • Islamabad Traffic Police issues more than 28,000 challans to careless drivers

    During the last three months, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) handed 28,224 fine tickets to motorists who were negligent on the roads.

    As per Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic, Rai Mazhar Iqbal, special squads have been formed on the directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Muhammad Ahsan Younas to deal with reckless drivers who endanger the lives of road users.

    He also instructed the officials that road users should be treated with respect.

    SSP Iqbal stated that all city personnel have been urged to take stern action against such offenders and to assure that the city’s roads are secure.

    Furthermore, he revealed that the ITP education wing has been directed to ensure renewed efforts in a bid to raise public awareness regarding traffic rules.

    Several students have joined ITP as traffic volunteers, therefore he directed ITP’s teams to visit educational institutions to build traffic sense among more students.

    According to the SSP Traffic, the goal of conducting action against irresponsible drivers is to safeguard their personal safety as well as the safety of others.

    Pakistani rupee records impressive gains against US Dollar, highest single-day gain

    In the intra-day trade on Friday, the Pakistani rupee (PKR) gained an impressive Rs3.5 against the US dollar, the highest single-day gain in two years after the Supreme Court (SC) pronounced the National Assembly (NA) deputy speaker order unconstitutional and restored the NA.

    The US dollar is currently trading at Rs185, as per foreign currency dealers, after weakening Rs3.5 versus the local currency in early trade. The USD is currently trading for above Rs186 on the open market.

    On Thursday, the rupee concluded at Rs188.18 against the USD in the interbank market.

    Consequently, the Pakistan Stock Exchange’s (PSX) benchmark KSE-100 index, reversed its downtrend shortly after starting on Friday and surpassed the 44,000 mark, a day after the Supreme Court of Pakistan annulled the deputy speaker’s decision against a no-confidence motion.

    Considering the trading which continued at 44, 198 on the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the KSE-100 benchmark index gained 411 points.

    The stock market has been under pressure since April 4, when it crumbled, losing over 900 points amid Pakistan’s ongoing political crisis, which arose after the National Assembly deputy speaker declared Prime Minister Imran Khan’s no-confidence resolution unconstitutional.

    SBP’s rate increase of 250 basis points and establishment of cash margins on 177 commodities is a marker that the economic system is in a slump and that prior initiatives were inadequate. This protective approach will aid in limiting the import of certain products, consequently bolstering the balance of payments.

    Hamza Shehbaz moves High Court for new Punjab CM’s election

    Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shehbaz moved Lahore High Court (LHC) to seek the court’s help for the in-house election of a new Chief Minister (CM) Punjab after the resignation of Usman Buzdar.

    The petition said the nomination papers of Hamza and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s (PML-Q) Pervaiz Elahi were submitted for the CM’s seat and later a session of the assembly was convened for voting on April 3 but it was adjourned.

    Consequently, the Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari directed to hold the session on April 6 at 07:30 pm but the assembly premises were sealed. Hamza requested the court to ensure that there is no interference in the house.

    During the hearing, chaired by LHC Chief Justice (CJ) Amir Bhatti, Hamza’s counsel Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar said the Punjab advocate general had assured the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on April 5 that the session would be held the next day i.e. April 6th. At this, the CJ summoned the Punjab advocate general only to know that he is in Islamabad.

    CJ Bhatti decided to issue notices to all respondents including; Elahi, Mazari, the Punjab chief secretary, and the provincial police chief for Monday (April 11) and adjourned the hearing.

    On April 6th, Mazari summoned a crucial session of the assembly for the election of new CM Punjab. However, the PML-Q submitted a no-confidence motion against the deputy speaker.

    After the Punjab Assembly was sealed off with barbed wires and the building’s main gate was locked while the Opposition lawmakers, led by the PML-N, held a session of their own at a private hotel, with PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz claiming that Hamza Shehbaz has been “elected” as the Punjab CM.

    In the Punjab Assembly, the govt has 183 lawmakers, PML-Q 10, PML-N 165, PPP seven, five are independent and one belongs to Rah-i-Haq party.

    During the holy month of Ramzan, the price of vegetables and fruits in Quetta rocketed instead of decreasing. Tomatoes, which were previously selling for Rs120 per kilogramme in the vegetable market are now being sold at Rs160.

    Some other reports even suggest that a few shopkeepers were selling tomatoes for up to Rs190, minting money directly in front of the district administration’s eyes.

    Ladyfinger which was sold at Rs240, is now available for Rs280, potatoes, and onions after getting a hike of Rs10 are being sold at Rs50 and Rs60, respectively. Ginger, lemon, and garlic are now priced between Rs300 to Rs320.

    The government of Balochistan has not set up any Ramzan or ‘Sasta bazaar’ this year to facilitate citizens during the holy month of fasting. Formerly, district governments held Ramazan bazaars on the orders of provincial governments to assist the people.

    Previously, the Quetta administration had issued shops with a detailed list of commodities and their pricing. The shop owners, on the other hand, are not obeying the administration’s directives and selling items at their desired rate. These artificial rates have multiplied the problems of the common man.

    Actor Zara Noor Abbas took to her Instagram stories to state that she will only accept PTI’s government and Imran Khan as the Prime Minister of Pakistan after re-elections.

    Last year the Khamoshi star questioned Special Assistant to the Punjab Chief Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan’s misconduct and getting into a physical altercation with the PPP MNA Qadir Khan Mandokhail.

    Dalsey Hillblom Lynn, DHL Boeing cargo plane, broke into pieces after an emergency landing in Costa Rica on April 7. During landing, it skidded off the runaway at Juan Santamaria International airport.

    According to a statement released by DHL, soon after taking off, the crew reported the failure of the hydraulic system in the aircraft due to which the plane immediately made an emergency landing. It was reported that both pilots have escaped severe injuries. The company has initiated an investigation to find out the real cause of the incident.

    DHL added in the statement, “We are pleased to report that the crew was physically unharmed in the incident,” it continued, “One crew member underwent medical checks as a precaution.”

    As per data from the website FlightRadar24, the cargo plane took off from Juan Santamaria Airport and headed north initially before deviating from an original course after 10 minutes.

    The air jet was swung towards the south for about 20 minutes before entering a holding pattern. The pilots probably performed action was to dump excess fuel that could have catch fire in the crash landing. The air jet landed in the direction of North-East before the crash landing at the airport.

    A newly-wed couple in Tamil Nadu received petrol and diesel as gifts at their wedding ceremony, Indian media has reported. Girish Kumar and Keerthana the knot at Cheyyur in Tamil Nadu’s Chengalpattu district.

    In the video being widely shared on social media, the married couple can be seen accepting the gifts with a smile on their face.

    As per reported by Indian media, the country saw 14 price hikes in the price of petrol and diesel in 14 days.

    This is not the first time that a couple has received such gift. In August 2021 a newly-married couple in India received five litres of petrol as a gift at their wedding reception.

    As per reports, a Tamil comedian named Mayilsamy gave an unusual gift to the couple. The images of the wedding ceremony and the gift have gone viral on social media platforms.
