Rawalpindi academy principal accused of raping matric student, forcing abortion

A disturbing case has emerged from the Pirwadhai area of Rawalpindi, where the principal of a private academy has been accused of repeatedly raping a matric student under the pretense of marriage and exam preparation, ultimately leading to two pregnancies and a forced abortion.

According to the FIR registered by Rawalpindi police, Ziaur Rehman, principal of Asad Academy in Khayaban-e-Sir Syed, allegedly exploited his position by calling the student to the academy on the pretext of helping her prepare for exams.

The student stated that on May 21, 2025, she was summoned by the suspect  but upon arrival found the academy empty. She said, “All the students had left, and the principal was alone. He locked the doors and raped me. He threatened me not to tell anyone.”

The student revealed that Rehman had initially proposed marriage, saying, “I have no children, marry me.” She refused and asked him to speak to her parents if he was serious. However, she claimed he began manipulating her emotionally and academically, offering better grades and tuition support while gradually getting closer.

After the first assault, the student became pregnant. She said, “He took me to a private clinic in Saddar for a check-up and gave me medicine. I didn’t know what it was, but after using it, I fell ill. Later I found out it was for abortion.” She added, “When he learned about the miscarriage, he said, ‘Now you are not fit to marry anyone else. I will marry you, but I need time.’”

The FIR further alleges that in July, Rehman raped her again inside the academy office and continued to blackmail and assault her over time, resulting in a second pregnancy. The student said, “When I insisted on marriage, he began mentally and physically torturing me. I was under immense stress due to my family’s honor, and the pregnancy ended on its own.”

In her statement, the student said, “Ziaur Rehman used the sacred profession of teaching to deceive me with false promises of marriage, raped me, got me pregnant, and then forced an abortion. He destroyed my life. I request justice and strict action against him.”

Rawalpindi police confirmed that a case has been registered under charges of rape and forced abortion. Further investigation is underway.

Instead of resolving the matter with a conversation, the man decided to vent his anger by snapping the power lines. The video, which remains unverified, has been widely shared on social media.

Death toll in Quetta suicide blast rises to 13

The death toll of the suicide bombing near Quetta’s Shahwani Stadium on Tuesday night has risen to 13, hospital staff confirmed.

According to reports, at least 35 people were also injured in the explosion that occurred shortly after the conclusion of a public gathering of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) held to mark the death anniversary of the late Sardar Attaullah Mengal.

The gathering was attended by top leaders, including BNP-M chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Asghar Khan Achakzai of the Awami National Party (ANP) and former senator Mir Kabeer Muhammad Shai of the National Party.

Officials said the bomber detonated his explosives-laden jacket in the parking area as participants were leaving the meeting. All political leaders, however, remained safe.

According to police, the explosion occurred about 15 minutes after the meeting ended as the crowd dispersed.

The deceased were identified as Muhammad Ishaq, Najeebullah, Shan, Muhammad Hanif, Madad Khan, Waqir Ahmed, Hafeez, Abdul Nabi, Nasarullah, Allah Bakhsh, Najeebullah s/o Asadullah, Allah Bakhsh and Muhammad Waqar.

In a statement, Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Sarfraz Bugti condemned the blast, calling it a cowardly attack on innocent people. He said those behind the bombing were enemies of humanity and had spilled the blood of ordinary citizens to spread fear.

The provincial chief executive vowed to “crush their nefarious designs,” adding that the attackers would be hunted down and punished.

“Violence will not be allowed to derail peace in Balochistan,” Bugti emphasised, noting that both the federal and provincial governments will work together to keep citizens safe.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terror activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, since Afghan Taliban returned to power in Kabul in August 2021.

According to a report released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), an Islamabad-based think tank, the country has witnessed 78 terrorist attacks during June this year, resulting in at least 100 deaths.

Becky Lynch slaps CM Punk on WWE Raw after heated confrontation

Irish professional wrestler Becky Lynch slapped American wrestler and actor CM Punk on World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Raw after stepping in to defend her husband Seth Rollins.

On Monday, Punk called out Rollins after The Visionary retained his World Heavyweight Championship at Clash in Paris with help from Lynch.

Rollins defended his title in a Fatal-4 Way match against Punk, LA Knight and Jey Uso. Lynch entered the ring during the match and hit Punk below the belt, allowing Rollins to secure the win.

Punk demanded Rollins face him on Raw, but Lynch walked out instead to her husband’s music. She even mocked Rollins’ signature entrance before stepping into the ring.

Lynch told Punk to step aside, claiming that her and Rollins’ vision for wrestling was taking over. She also reminded Punk how his WWE departure in 2014 distracted fans from her matches, as crowds kept chanting his name.

Punk fired back and called Rollins a coward for hiding behind his wife. Rollins briefly appeared on the entrance ramp and dared Punk to fight him, but Lynch blocked the path.

The confrontation heated up when Lynch slapped Punk across the face. She struck him multiple times and pushed him while daring him to make a move.

“I’m going to make Seth Rollins regret ever cashing in on me and you’re going to regret putting your hands on me,” Punk said before leaving the ring.

Punk may have also hinted at his wife AJ Lee, a former three-time Divas Champion, who left WWE in 2015, making an appearance.

  • Humayun Saeed defends student-teacher romance in Main Manto Nahi Hoon

Humayun Saeed defends student-teacher romance in Main Manto Nahi Hoon

Popular drama serial Main Manto Nahi Hoon has come under fire for portraying a romantic angle between a teacher and his student. Amid widespread criticism on social media, especially concerning the significant age gap between the characters Manto and Mehmal, lead actor Humayun Saeed has broken silence and defended the storyline.

Saeed, during a recent interview alongside co-star Azaan Sami Khan, said that such relationships do occur in real life and should not be dismissed simply because they are uncomfortable to watch.

“Students often end up marrying their teachers in real life,” Saeed said in conversation with journalist Maliha Rehman, adding that people are judging the story even before it is fully unfolded.

He explained that Mehmal comes from an abusive household filled with constant conflict, and her attraction to her teacher stems from the calm and caring demeanor he offers – someone who even cooks for himself. “It’s not love at first sight… it’s admiration… a sense of emotional safety,” he added.

According to Saeed, the drama could have shown the romantic development much earlier but chose to hold back. “So far, it’s just a crush from Mehmal’s side,” he said and clarified that the teacher “only sees her only as a bright student”.

Despite the controversy, Main Manto Nahi Hoon continues to garner high viewership and social media traction, sparking debates around storytelling, boundaries and realism in modern Pakistani dramas.

Alongside Humayun, Azaan Sami Khan and Sajjal Ali, the cast of the drama includes Saima, Asif Raza Mir, Saba Faisal, Saba Hameed, Babar Ali and Sanam Saeed.

  • Biryani or Pulao? NFAK settled the debate decades ago

Biryani or Pulao? NFAK settled the debate decades ago

The debate between fans of the exuberant biryani and the subtle pulao rages on forever, but one man beloved by nearly all of Pakistan settled the debate decades ago.

Legendary maestro Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan settled the debate by selecting pulao over biryani, albeit when he was a child.

As the legendary voice of Qawwali that transcended borders and generations, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan not only nourished the soul with his music but also cherished a deep love for food that was as rich and layered as his vocal range.

From the humble street-side delights of Faisalabad that comforted him in childhood to the hearty, spice-laden dishes that replenished him after electrifying performances, Nusrat’s culinary journey is a flavorful reflection of his roots, routine, and artistic passion.

A prolific masala brand has unearthed the icon’s interview clips where he talks about food.

In one interview, the iconic Allah Hoo Allah Hoo singer opened up about a lesser-known side of his childhood.

“I’ve always been afraid of water,” he confessed. “When I was a child, my friends once pushed me into a canal. I nearly drowned. That fear has stayed with me ever since.”

But while water frightened him, food was a different story.

“I was absolutely crazy about eating,” he said with a nostalgic smile. Then, laughing, he recounted an incident from his early teens when that love for food led to unexpected trouble.

“I must’ve been around 12 or 13. My friends and I had saved up a bit of money, just eight aanaas each, which was about 1.5 rupees. That day, we went to watch a film called Manzil. After the movie, we were starving, so we headed to this famous spot to eat pulao.”

But fate had a twist in store.

“Just our luck, they had raised the price that very day. When we finished eating and went to pay, the man at the counter said, ‘It’s three rupees.’ We told him, ‘But we only have half that!’”

He chuckled at the memory before pausing.

“They made us sit there the whole night. I’ll never forget that night.”

In another interview, the undisputed Qawwali king shared that his favourite desi food was karelay gosht.

“From my childhood I had a habit of eating good food and my mother used to cook delicious food. So, karelay gosht was my favourite dish,” he shared.

When NFAK traveled, the story goes, he found it hard to find foods that his palate was used to and loved. In Japan, concert organisers made sure that a local Indian family made food for the singer on his visit. When he toured Germany he lived on fruits for a few days.

In 2021, a restaurant called Le Karachi in Lyon, France, shared photos of the legend enjoying a meal there after a concert. He also loved London’s Lahore One Kebab House.

He would not eat before or during his performances, which could last 5 hours. Fans also recount that he loved Faisalabad’s seekh kababs and missed the food when he would travel.

Others said Cholay Bhaturay were a family favourite for breakfast.

Pakistan lost Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan 28 years ago on August 16, 1997, at the age of just 48. Known as the Shahenshah-e-Qawwali (King of Qawwali), his powerful voice and spiritual intensity brought Sufi music to the global stage, earning him admiration from legends like Peter Gabriel and Jeff Buckley. Though he left the world far too soon, his legacy lives on through his timeless recordings and the generations of artists he continues to inspire. Even nearly three decades later, his voice still resonates in the hearts of millions.
