  • Adidas unveils made in Pakistan ball for Champions League

Adidas unveils made in Pakistan ball for Champions League

Adidas has revealed the new official match balls for the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Women’s Champions League, both manufactured in Pakistan.

The launch came shortly after the conclusion of the Champions League play-off matches.

According to Adidas, the design of the men’s Champions League ball is inspired by the night sky, while the women’s edition draws from deep space and the northern lights. Both designs pay tribute to the stars of football as they journey toward the finals, which will take place in Budapest and Oslo in May.

The men’s ball features a striking gold and blue finish, complemented by hand-drawn zodiac signs in gold that symbolise heroism and destiny. The women’s ball uses dark purple between the white stars, accented by neon green gradients and flowing designs inspired by the northern lights. Luminous pink and white stars add the finishing touch, echoing the brilliance of deep space.

Both balls feature the Adidas Badge of Sport and the official Champions League logos, completing a design that honours the essence of the tournament.

Beyond their visual appeal, the new balls incorporate advanced technology for top-level performance. The innovative PRISMA surface with a debossed pattern improves precision and swerve, while the outer coating ensures a secure grip and ultimate control. The thermally bonded seamless construction enhances durability and consistency on the field.

At the core of the ball is the groundbreaking CTR-CORE, designed for accuracy and shape retention. This core consists of a zero-waste bladder made from natural rubber and a carcass reinforced with PES fabric, providing both strength and stability.

The 2025/26 editions are also the most sustainable in the tournament’s history. Adidas has used recycled polyester, water-based inks, and a higher proportion of bio-based materials, including corn fibres, sugar cane, wood pulp, and rubber, without compromising performance.

  • Imran Khan called out for ‘uttering absolute nonsense’ as video defending RUDA project resurfaces

Imran Khan called out for ‘uttering absolute nonsense’ as video defending RUDA project resurfaces

As floods wreak havoc on large parts of Punjab, including Lahore, some netizens have shared an old video of then-prime minister Imran Khan backing the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project.

In the now viral video, Imran Khan can be heard saying that the objective of the project was to curb the expansion of Lahore. “If Lahore continues to expand, then the water table will continue to recede,” he says in the video.

He can further be heard arguing that Ravi-river is in the process of drying up, which would turn it into a sewage drain, gesturing towards the water behind him. “It will be a modern city which will be constructed at par with Dubai and Malaysia and will expand vertically.”

While rivers, including the Ravi, swelled in the wake of the unprecedented monsoon this year and submerged many nearby villages and housing societies, users blamed the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government for advocating the need for a new city on the riverfront.

A user, while highlighting the deteriorated situation on the bank of Ravi, shared the January 2022 video of Imran Khan on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday. “It’s the sheer confidence with which he utters absolute nonsense, Imran Khan, the ultimate Mr. Know-It-All,” he captioned, accompanied by the alarm emoji.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) top brass Khawaja Asif, was quick to react to the video, writing, “Everywhere, every fool thinks that he knows everything. He [Imran khan] should be shown today’s Ravi’s video and asked. And the ignorant person also gives long, long lectures (sic).”

“Imran Khan called the Ravi City project one of the biggest mega projects in Pakistan’s history, claiming it would save Lahore from unplanned urban sprawl, revive River Ravi, and raise the water table,” wrote another user.

One of the users alleged, “Imran Khan was the biggest supporter of the RUDA project and had the biggest hand in starting these housing societies.”

Another user said, “Imran Khan had himself launched the RUDA project, also showed concern over the Supreme Court’s decision.”

It merits a mention that in August 2020, the then-premier Imran Khan had laid the foundation stone of the controversial real estate project, which is continuing in the PML-N-led provincial government.

RUDA is responsible for developing a new city along the banks of the Ravi. Empowered by provincial legislation, RUDA has, over time, become a contentious body and has been dragged through the courts more than once.

Romario Shepherd smashes 22 runs off one ball in CPL thriller

Romario Shepherd pulled off a rare and stunning feat during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, scoring 22 runs from a single legal delivery at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet.

Playing for Guyana Amazon Warriors, Shepherd blasted 73 runs off 34 balls, hitting seven sixes and five fours. The highlight came in the 15th over when he faced Oshane Thomas in a dramatic sequence.

Thomas bowled a no-ball followed by a wide, then another no-ball that Shepherd smashed for six. He repeated the feat on another no-ball before hitting the first legal delivery for a massive 95-meter six over square leg. In total, one legitimate ball costs 22 runs. The over eventually went for 33 runs after a six by Iftikhar Ahmed on the final delivery.

This is not the first time Oshane Thomas has had such a bizarre over. In the 2024 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), he conceded 15 runs off a single legal ball.

Despite Shepherd’s heroics, his team lost as St Lucia Kings chased down a massive 204-run target in just 18.1 overs. Ackeem Auguste was the star for St Lucia, smashing 73 runs off 35 balls with four sixes and six fours.

Ducky Bhai’s remand extended for four more days in gambling apps case

A judicial magistrate on Thursday extended the physical remand of YouTuber Saadur Rehman, known as Ducky Bhai, for four more days at the request of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in a case linked to the promotion of illegal gambling apps on social media.

The next hearing is scheduled for September 1.

Authorities allege that the popular YouTuber, along with other influencers, promoted gambling platforms such as Binomo, 1xBet, Bet365, and B9 Game for financial gain. According to investigators, these promotions caused significant losses to users who invested their money in these applications. Officials stated they have collected 27 video links from Ducky Bhai’s account that featured the promotion of these platforms, although many of these videos have since been deleted.

  • School shooting in Minneapolis leaves 2 children dead, 17 injured

School shooting in Minneapolis leaves 2 children dead, 17 injured

Investigators were seeking to find out why a heavily-armed shooter opened fire on school children at a church service in Minneapolis on Wednesday, killing two pupils and wounding 17 people in the latest violent tragedy to jolt the United States.

City police chief Brian O’Hara said that the attacker sprayed bullets through the windows of the Annunciation Church as dozens of young students were at a Mass marking their first week back at school.

The church sits next to an affiliated Catholic school in Minneapolis, the largest city in the Midwestern state of Minnesota, where hundreds attended vigils for the victims on Wednesday evening.

“Two young children, ages eight and 10, were killed where they sat in the pews,” O’Hara said. Fourteen wounded children were expected to survive, while three elderly parishioners were also shot, he added.

The shooter fired a rifle, shotgun and pistol before dying by suicide in the parking lot. The attacker had recently purchased the weapons legally, police said.

One 10-year-old said he had survived the shooting thanks to a friend who covered him with his body.

“I just ran under the pew, and then I covered my head,” he told broadcaster CBS. “My friend Victor saved me though, because he laid on top of me, but he got hit.”

A joint statement from the school’s principal and pastor said that within seconds of the start of shooting, “our heroic staff moved students under the pews.”

According to AP news, on a YouTube channel titled Robin W, the alleged shooter released at least two videos before the channel was taken down by site administrators Wednesday.

In one, the alleged shooter shows a cache of weapons and ammunition, some with such phrases as “kill Donald Trump” and “Where is your God?” written on them.

A second video shows the alleged shooter pointing to two outside windows in what appears to be a drawing of the church, and then stabbing it with a long knife. It was unclear when that video was uploaded to the channel.

     ‘Domestic terrorism’ probe

The mass shooting is the latest in a long line of deadly school attacks in the US, where attempts to restrict easy access to firearms face political deadlock.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the agency was investigating the shooting as “an act of domestic terrorism and hate crime targeting Catholics.”

Patel identified the shooter as “Robin Westman, a male born as Robert Westman.”

Westman, 23, legally changed name in 2020 and identified as female, court papers show.

In a post on X, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the shooter was “claiming to be transgender” and called the attack “unthinkable.”

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey warned against using the attack to lash out at transgender people, and addressed the issue of gun ownership in the US.

“Anybody who is using this… as an opportunity to villainize our trans community, or any other community out there, has lost their sense of common humanity,” Frey told reporters.

“We’ve got more guns in this country than we have people… we can’t just say that this shouldn’t happen again and then allow it to happen again and again.”

    Vigil for victims

More than 600 people attended a vigil mourning the victims at a nearby school on Wednesday evening, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported.

One attendee, Louise Fowler, told the newspaper she knew the suspect’s mother when she worked at the church.

“The family worked hard with this child who had a lot of problems,” she said of Robin Westman, who was reportedly a former student at the school.

Videos posted online by the shooter showed a multi-page manifesto, and names and drawings of firearms.

O’Hara, the police chief, said the manifesto appeared to show Westman “at the scene and included some disturbing writings and content has since been taken down.”

“We don’t have a motive at this time,” O’Hara said, adding that investigators were carrying out three search warrants at residential addresses.

The attack drew condemnation and expressions of grief from many including President Donald Trump, who directed US flags at the White House be lowered to half-staff.

Pope Leo XIV — the first American to head the Catholic Church — said he was “profoundly saddened” by the tragedy.

Minneapolis Archbishop Bernard Hebda pointed out that the attack came just a day after another school shooting near the city, adding in a statement: “We need an end to gun violence.”

This year, there have been at least 287 mass shootings — defined as a shooting involving at least four victims, dead or wounded — across the country, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

  • Real war between Pakistan, India is against poverty, climate change, says Khaqan Shahnawaz

Real war between Pakistan, India is against poverty, climate change, says Khaqan Shahnawaz

Pakistani actor and model Khaqan Shahnawaz has weighed in on Pakistan-India tensions, saying that the two nations should focus on real challenges rather than fighting each other.

In a video message posted on Instagram, the rising star urged the public to shift its attention towards more pressing problems.

He said, “A few months ago, during the war between Pakistan and India, both countries were making memes. The Indians were saying, ‘We will stop Pakistan’s water, how did you take a bath?’ Meanwhile, the Pakistanis were saying, ‘Let the monsoon come, with water from India, a lot more will come.’”

Shahnawaz explained that nature itself gave the answer when the monsoon rains brought destruction across both countries. “Then the same thing happened, the monsoon came, there was so much destruction that both countries had to give and take. The point to understand here is that the real war between Pakistan and India is not with each other but with poverty, and in the coming days it will be against climate change.”

He stressed the need for cooperation instead of hostility, saying, “Instead of making memes against each other, talking against each other’s religion or country, we should sit together and find a solution to climate change. Otherwise, in a year neither India nor Pakistan will remain, only memes will remain on the internet.”
