  • Famous Egyptian TikToker ‘Yasmin’ turns out to be a boy

Famous Egyptian TikToker ‘Yasmin’ turns out to be a boy

TikTok users have been left stunned after it has been revealed that popular Egyptian influencer ‘Yasmin’ is not who she claimed to be.

According to Arab media, the matter came to light after complaints were filed at a police station about the female TikToker’s dance videos. The police then summoned TikToker Yasmin for questioning and further investigation.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the person posing as a girl and running TikTok under the name Yasmin was actually an 18-year-old boy named Abdul Rahman.

The student admitted: “I created this account only to increase followers and earn money.”

Following his arrest, the court initially placed him on a four-day remand. He was later released on bail of 5,000 Egyptian pounds (about $105).

Abdul Rahman, who lives with his divorced mother in a village, was described by neighbors as a quiet and ordinary student at the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management. One neighbor expressed disbelief: “We are in shock. What we saw as a normal young boy was fooling the world by becoming a girl.”

An Interior Ministry spokesman confirmed: “Abdul Rahman has been charged with impersonating a woman and publishing immoral content.”

This case has drawn attention as Egyptian authorities continue their crackdown on so-called “immoral content” on social media. In recent years, several female TikTok influencers have been arrested for posting lewd dances or explicit content, with some even sentenced to prison.

  • ‘Low domestic savings, investment threaten long-term growth,’ warns SBP governor

‘Low domestic savings, investment threaten long-term growth,’ warns SBP governor

Pakistan’s domestic savings level has declined to a measly 7.4 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP). According to the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Jameel Ahmed, the low savings level has resulted in reliance upon external financing and repeated boom-bust economic cycles. Meanwhile, reports reveal that Pakistan lags far behind in domestic savings, with the regional average at 27 percent of GDP compared to just 7.4 percent in Pakistan.

Addressing the conference “Unlocking the Capital Markets Potential for Banks,” on Monday, the SBP governor warned that Pakistan’s long-term growth prospects remain weak due to declining investment and a low savings rate. Data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) indicates that private investment levels have fallen to 9 percent of GDP in 2024-25 from 12 percent in 2008-09.

However, the decrease in investment is not limited to the private sector, as public investment has recorded a steep decline from 4 percent to 2.9 percent over the aforementioned period. Reports suggest that Pakistan now ranks the lowest in the region in terms of total investment.

Data from the World Bank (WB) shows Pakistan’s gross fixed capital formation to sit at 12 percent of GDP, far below Bangladesh’s 31 percent and Sri Lanka’s 20 percent. For reference, gross fixed capital formation is a measure of a country’s investment into physical assets that boost future production, such as buildings and infrastructure.

The SBP’s governor highlighted the need to address the low savings rates to help “build sustainable growth”. He stressed the importance of capital markets to help funnel domestic savings into productive investments.

Investing in the domestic capital market is attractive for investors as well, as the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has been performing exceptionally over the past year. The PSX has proved to be an avenue of high returns for investors, as the benchmark index of the PSX, the KSE-100 index, has grown by over 92.4 percent over the past year.

According to reports, participation in the PSX remains subdued compared to other economies in the region, given the low number of investor accounts and market capitalisation. The SBP’s governor has taken notice of the low level of financial inclusion, offering possible solutions to remedy the issue.

As per the details, he has directed government bodies, regulators, and financial institutions to promote financial literacy to boost market participation.

Massive pay cut for Babar, Shaheen and Rizwan as PCB abolishes Category A contracts

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced central contracts for the 2025-26 cricketing season, revising monthly salaries that might not sit well with some of the players.

According to reports, the board has revised monthly salaries for players in the C and D categories while downgrading the country’s only Category A cricketers, namely Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Muhammad Rizwan, to Category B.

As per the revisions, cricketers in Category C will now receive Rs2.5 million per month – up from Rs 2 million – whereas players in Category D will earn Rs 1.5 million per month as compared to Rs1.2 million earlier.

While there has been no pay-raise for Category B players, who will continue to receive around Rs 4.5 million per month, Babar, Shaheen and Rizwan, who earned Rs6.5 million a month in category A, will be facing a loss of at least Rs2 million every month.

Category A was abolished after no player met the criteria, reports said.

Celebs defend Bushra Ansari after Ruby Anam’s harsh comments go viral

Pakistani theatre and drama actress Rubi Anam is under fire after making remarks about veteran actress Bushra Ansari, suggesting she should retire instead of making vlogs. Several celebrities have called her comments disrespectful and unnecessary.

The actress made the remarks during her recent appearance on Sabih Sumair’s podcast.

“Bushra Ansari is my favourite. I like her a lot; if I say so, it would be a lie. She should rest at this age. She is not at that age now to take a camera and do vlogging,” she said.

She went on to add, “She should fear Allah. What is she doing now that she is old? She is older than our mothers.”

She also mentioned Bushra’s sister, Asma Abbas: “I have worked with Asma Abbas in a show. She loves me so much, gives me so much respect that I cannot say anything against her. I cannot tell her to stop now. Don’t overshoot so much. She is also working on TV, doing serials. Despite this, what is the need for her to do vlogging while shopping for clothes and shoes?”

Ruby further commented: “She wears a lot of makeup on her face, while she is not even that beautiful.”

Talking about her own appearance, she said: “I have not undergone any kind of surgery on my face. This is my natural beauty.” She added, “I keep a few drops of Zam Zam water in a bottle of rose water and sprinkle it on my face every day. That is why my face remains fresh and youthful.”

Ruby Anam’s remarks quickly drew backlash from fellow celebrities.

Actress Zhalay Sarhadi strongly condemned the statement, saying: “Incredibly out of line, intrusive, rude and disrespectful. Why must such people spew needless opinions? To get viral? Is that it? Such a disgrace.”

Actress Mamya Shajaffar also expressed disappointment: “Breaks my heart how women always bring other women down.”

Singer Ghania Ali added, “Ok, I found her extremely rude, period!”

  • NADRA app seeks ‘liveness check’ from deceased to cancel their own ID cards

NADRA app seeks ‘liveness check’ from deceased to cancel their own ID cards

Users of the National Database and Registration Authority’s (NADRA) mobile app have noticed a seemingly unusual feature that allows deceased individuals to reportedly cancel their own identity cards.

As per the details, NADRA’s mobile app includes a feature labelled “Cancel Identity Due to Death,” which provides users with two options for cancelling the ID card of a deceased individual. The first option is labelled “Myself,” while the second is labelled “My blood relatives.”

While it is questionable how a deceased person could cancel their own identity card, the second option is worded as if from the deceased person’s perspective. The “My blood relatives” option allows immediate family members, such as parents, siblings, spouse, or children, to apply for cancellation of the deceased’s ID card.

To the bewilderment of app users, however, upon clicking on the “Myself” option, users are reportedly taken through a “liveness check” that utilises facial recognition software. According to reports, the process is designed to ensure that the person using the liveness check procedure is alive and matches with data in NADRA’s official record.

Users have questioned how a deceased individual is supposed to follow the procedure requiring them to log in to the NADRA app, starting a cancellation of ID card application under the “myself” option, and completing a liveness check via facial recognition.

A NADRA spokesperson reportedly commented on the matter, clarifying that the ID card cancellation service for deceased individuals is meant to be used only by their relatives. However, the spokesperson did not address concerns about the presence of the “myself” option under the “Cancel Identity Due to Death” feature.

Additionally, the spokesperson did not explain why the NADRA app requires a liveness check for deceased individuals or how such a feature could even be used by them. Reports suggest this feature is yet another example of poorly designed government mobile apps.

According to reports, authorities often fail to ensure proper oversight during app development, leading to multiple issues in government apps. So far, NADRA has not released a statement on the feature, sparking debate over the app’s design.

Tamkenat Mansoor praises father who caught harasser red-handed

Pakistani comedian and actor Tamkenat Mansoor has reacted strongly to a viral video showing a father bravely catching a man harassing his daughters. Sharing the clip on her Instagram story, she urged parents to trust and support their children.

She wrote: “Please always take your kids’ complaints seriously. Give them the confidence so they can share their issues with you. Kudos to this father for catching the culprit and handing him over to the authorities rather than imprisoning his own daughters.”

The video was originally posted by digital creator Shakeel Chishti on Instagram, who shared it with the caption: “14 din ho gaye bachiyon se ched khani karte hue, aaj range haathon baap ne pakar liya.”

In the video, the father explained, “It’s been 14 days, my two daughters go to madrassa, and for 14 days they were telling me, ‘Baba, whenever we go and stand there, some uncle comes and bothers us. Sometimes he asks us about the way to home, sometimes he asks our name, sometimes he asks Baba’s name.”

He added, “Yesterday morning, around 7:15 to 7:30, my daughter and son went to the bakery. As they were going upstairs, this person followed them in a narrow street. He went to the roof behind her, grabbed my daughter’s hand, and tried to abduct her.”

In efforts to protect his daughters, the father set a trap. “This morning after Fajr prayer, I went and stood there. As soon as my daughters came, two minutes later this man came and stood near them. So today we caught him red-handed. We will hand him over to the police and file a kidnapping case. We have identified him, now the rest is up to the law.”

Social media users applauded the father’s courage. A user wrote, “Father did an excellent job. But please don’t let your girls go out anywhere alone.”

Another said, “The kind of father every daughter deserves.”

One user commented, “Instead of imprisoning his daughters at home, he chose to catch the real culprit. Good!”

One added, “It heals me to see a father who actually stepped up for his daughters and took action! Proud of you. You just restored my faith in Pakistani society.”

  • Wasim Akram in trouble for promoting online gambling platform

Wasim Akram in trouble for promoting online gambling platform

An application submitted to the Cyber Crime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) – now National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) – in Lahore has sought legal action against former Pakistan cricket captain and star bowler Wasim Akram for promoting a sports betting and gambling platform.

According to the application submitted by one Muhammad Fiaz, the former international cricketer signed up as a brand ambassador for an Indian betting company linked to the platform called Baji. The complainant alleges that a poster and a video clip circulating on social media showed Akram endorsing the platform while urging people to join for an “exciting experience”.

“Wasim Akram signed up for an Indian betting and gambling company as a brand ambassador. A clip shared on his social media account shows Akram asking people to join the betting app for exciting experience, encouraging fans to rake in dough,” stated the application, a copy of which is available with The Current.

It added that the former cricketer, by associating with the platform, was “promoting gambling in Pakistan”, which is prohibited under the law and banned in all forms.

The complainant went on to seek strict action against Akram under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act of 2016.

While Akram is yet to respond to the complaint against him, the complaint comes amid growing scrutiny over influencers and celebrities promoting betting and gambling platforms in Pakistan.

On Saturday night, popular YouTuber Saad ur Rehman, widely known as Ducky Bhai, was arrested in Lahore after the NCCIA registered a case against him for promoting online gambling applications.

According to the FIR, the case against Ducky Bhai was registered under several sections of PECA, including Section 13 (Electronic Forgery), Section 14 (Electronic Fraud), Section 25 (Spamming) and Section 26 (Spoofing). He was also charged under Sections 294-B and 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

The FIR said that Ducky Bhai among other internet personalities were promoting gambling apps such as Binomo, 1xBet, Bet365 and B9 Game for financial gain, which had resulted in financial losses for people who had been misled into using their savings on these platforms.

He is currently in NCCIA custody on a two-day physical remand.

  • Project Management and Automated Workflows Made Easy with Lark

Project Management and Automated Workflows Made Easy with Lark

As we know that, teams often become stuck because their technology stacks don’t work. People are less productive and less aware of what’s going on when they have to switch between multiple tools, including a calendar, a chat app, a project management application, and a document editor. This is where a platform like Lark that does everything in one place truly helps. Lark is more than just a bundle of tools; it’s a single workspace that makes managing projects easier and automates actions that need to be done again and over again so that teams can focus on what truly matters: getting work done quickly.

Key features for project management and automation

Lark, being one of the industry-leading project management tools on the market, offers a lot of excellent yet advanced features that make it easier to manage projects and automate operations. These tools are supposed to be easy to use and powerful, so teams can do intricate procedures without needing to know a lot about technology.

    1. Lark Base: The no-code data hub

Lark Base is a versatile data management platform, with a rich set of tools that help users to present, visualize, and organize data. This advanced, no-code database and workflow builder enables teams to create their own apps and keep track of their work in an obvious and structured way. With Lark Base, users can manage projects that show information in a number of views, including Grid, Kanban, Gantt, Calendar, and Gallery. All of these views change in real time. This flexibility lets everyone in the team look at the same information in the way that works best for them. A project manager would use a Gantt chart to keep track of a schedule, while a creative team member might use a Kanban board to keep track of what has to be done.

Additionally, Lark Base allows teams to create automated workflow, simplifying task management and ensuring that processes are followed consistently. Customizing timelines, dashboards, and workflows make it easy for teams to adapt the app to their specific needs, helping them stay organized and keep track of important information.

     2. Lark Approval: Automatic approval workflow

Lark sets itself apart from other platforms by offering Lark Approval, which streamlines the approval process within your team. This powerful feature helps eliminate bottlenecks by routing tasks directly to the appropriate person for quick sign-offs. Whether it’s approving expense reports, confirming project deliverables, or processing leave requests, Lark Approval automates the approval chain, ensuring that no important decision is delayed.

With Lark Approval, you can create customized workflows that automatically trigger approval requests based on predefined criteria. For example, when an expense report is submitted, Lark Approval can automatically route it to the manager for approval. Once approved, the workflow moves seamlessly to the next step, keeping everything on track without requiring manual intervention.

    3. Lark Docs and Lark Messenger: Collaborative communication

Lark Docs, with its collaborative document editor, and Lark Messenger, its advanced chat software, exemplify how communication and collaboration can happen in context. Instead of sharing links to separate documents, teams can now collaborate on documents in real time, directly within Lark Messenger. This tight integration means that conversations and decisions are not only recorded but immediately linked to the relevant document or topic.

You can use “@” mentions in Lark Docs to tag coworkers, assign tasks, and even embed tables from Lark Base that dynamically update. Lark Messenger enhances communication with threaded conversations to keep discussions organized and a “Do Not Disturb” mode to help users stay focused and avoid interruptions.

    4. Lark Meetings: Smart video meetings with AI

Lark Meetings goes beyond video calls by offering AI-powered meeting minutes that automatically transcribe and summarize key points and action items. With real-time translations and subtitles, team members speaking different languages can easily communicate. Smart playback allows users to review recordings efficiently by skipping silent moments and adjusting playback speed. Meeting notes can be shared in Lark Docs or Lark Messenger, ensuring alignment. These features make meetings more productive, inclusive, and easy to follow up on.

    5. Lark Wiki: Get everything right at your fingertips

It’s hard to find information when you use a lot of apps, which is one of the most unpleasant aspects about not having a universal search function. This challenge is solved with Lark Wiki’s robust universal search feature. You may search for all of Lark’s features, such as messages, papers, calendar entries, and files, using just one search box. It enables teams to find a key document or a conversation from the past in just a few seconds, making the feature useful for large teams or projects with a lot of paperwork, ultimately saving time when you need to find the ideal information.

    Conclusion

Lark, as business process management software, makes a tremendous difference in how teams function. It solves the problem of “tool sprawl” by putting a group of advanced collaboration, project management, and automation tools on one platform. This helps the workplace stay organized and get more done. It has customizable dashboards and automated workflows that give project managers more information and control over how the project is going than any other solution. It helps team members talk to and cooperate with each other better, ensuring that everyone receives the right information at the right time. Lark is a wonderful solution for organizations of all sizes who want to get more done and get better at managing projects, since it has a simple design and sophisticated automation that doesn’t require any coding. It’s not just a tool; it’s a better way to accomplish things.
