Palestine joins Miss Universe stage for the first time ever

For the first time ever, Palestine will have a representative at the Miss Universe competition, as Nadeen Ayoub, 2022 Miss Palestine, prepares to take the global stage in Thailand on November 21.

The 27-year-old shared the news in an Instagram video, wearing a traditional Palestinian dress designed by Hiba Abdel Karim. The outfit, embroidered with the nation’s iconic colors and symbols, was more than a fashion statement; it was a proud declaration of Palestinian heritage on an international platform.

“This is not just about me,” Ayoub said. “I walk the stage carrying the dreams of Palestinian girls, the dignity of our mothers, and the voice of a homeland that lives in our hearts.” Her words reflect a vision of beauty as a tool for influence, leadership, and cultural storytelling, rather than just competition.

Ayoub’s participation has sparked widespread praise on social media. One user wrote, “We need more such representation ❤.” Another commented, “All the love and support❤.” A third fan said, “So happy to see Palestine represented on the global stage May your beauty and voice shine as a symbol of strength, hope, and peace .”

Another follower added, “THIS is what pageantry is really about. I am beyond excited to see your reign and watch you use this platform to amplify your voice and the voice of your country ❤ Congratulations habibti, cannot wait for the world to see you shine on that stage .” One user wrote, “Beautiful just as your beautiful country! Free Palestine ❤,” while another said, “Mashallah so proud of you Palestine Always in my prayers ❤.”

Nadeen Ayoub is no stranger to representing Palestine on international platforms. She was previously crowned Miss Earth 2022 in the Philippines, further solidifying her role as a global ambassador. Beyond pageantry, she is a nutrition and health coach, entrepreneur, and co-founder of the Olive Green Academy in Dubai, which leverages artificial intelligence to promote sustainability.

Her activism extends to humanitarian work, environmental protection, and supporting children with disabilities and abused families. Through these efforts, Ayoub has built a reputation for combining beauty with purpose, proving that elegance can coexist with social responsibility and meaningful advocacy.

Her participation in Miss Universe is especially significant as Palestine continues to endure genocide by Israel. The genocide in Gaza, which began in October 2023, has killed more than 61,000 Palestinians and injured over 151,000, with women and children making up the majority of victims. Entire families have been wiped out, and millions have been forced from their homes.

The destruction across Gaza is immense. Satellite data shows over 102,000 buildings have been completely destroyed, and nearly 80 percent of all structures are damaged or reduced to rubble. The healthcare system is on the brink of collapse, with only 19 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals remaining operational. Many provide only limited emergency care, while doctors perform surgeries without proper supplies or anesthesia.

Schools and UN shelters, where families sought safety, have been bombed, resulting in thousands of deaths. More than 400 aid workers and over 1,300 health workers have been reported killed as of April 2025. Journalists have faced unprecedented targeting, with over 260 media workers killed, according to reports.

Starvation has been deliberately used as a weapon, leaving children malnourished and millions at risk of dying from hunger. The starvation death toll has now reached 240, including 107 children, according to Aljazeera.

Senate grills govt for excluding Jinnah from Independence Day ads

During this year’s Independence Day celebrations on August 14, the federal government of Pakistan organized several events and placed advertisements in newspapers. However, the government has faced criticism for excluding the image of Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, from official ads.

Social media users raised objections, pointing out that the advertisements featured the faces of President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Field Marshal Asim Munir, while omitting Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The matter also came under discussion in the Senate, where Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar announced an investigation into the matter. Some opposition senators brought photos of Jinnah with them during the session.

Opposition members criticized the government for leaving out images of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and national poet Allama Iqbal during the August 15 session. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf senator Faisal Javed was seen holding a picture of Jinnah. He said, “This advertisement was not funded by their personal money. It was paid for with taxpayers’ money and public funds, yet it does not include the image of the country’s founder.”

He added, “We all brought the picture of Quaid-e-Azam to pay our tribute. On August 14, not a single documentary film was aired.”

Senator Ali Zafar also objected, noting that, contrary to tradition, documents related to the August 14 resolution were not shared.

Responding to the criticism, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said, “There will be an inquiry regarding the omission of Jinnah’s image, and the House will be informed.”

He added, “On Independence Day, various departments and organizations issue advertisements. If something like this happens, it is disappointing for all of us.”

He further said, “We operate under the image of Quaid-e-Azam. We are the custodians of his political legacy and generations have remained associated with Pakistan Muslim League-N. No other opinion matters.”

Tarar added, “The celebrations began at Jinnah Stadium, and we were all gathered there. I apologize if anyone was hurt. We are all followers of the founder. Pakistan is the gift he gave us.”

He also emphasized, “We are not people who attack places associated with Quaid-e-Azam.”

The issue has sparked widespread discussion on social media. Former federal minister Mushahid Hussain called it “ridiculous,” saying, “The advertisements only feature those who temporarily held office.”

Former senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar added, “The thoughts of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal have as much space in today’s Pakistan as they do in these government advertisements.”

  • Diesel prices plummet by Rs12.84, petrol prices remain same

Diesel prices plummet by Rs12.84, petrol prices remain same

High-speed diesel (HSD) prices for the next fortnight have been slashed by Rs12.84 per litre, according to a Finance Division notification issued on Friday. Petrol prices, however, remain unchanged despite earlier estimates suggesting a possible increase.

The new prices took effect on Saturday, 16 August, and are reportedly based on recent exchange rate fluctuations and international market trends.

The Rs12.84 per litre decrease in HSD prices translates to a fall of approximately 4.7 percent in the price of the commodity. The new price of HSD rests at Rs272.99 per litre while the price of petrol remains at Rs264.61 per litre.

The federal government made the aforementioned changes to the price of petroleum products. It merits a mention that these changes were reportedly in line with recommendations made by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and relevant ministries.

Data from reports has revealed that over the past two weeks, the price of diesel in the international market has reportedly decreased by approximately $4.5 per barrel. Petrol prices during the same period logged a marginal increase instead, growing by 15 cents per barrel.

According to reports from earlier this week, the rupee also recorded an increase in value, appreciating modestly against the dollar. For reference, an appreciation of the rupee makes it easier to purchase fuel domestically, as Pakistan is a net importer of petroleum-based fuels.

Prior to the rate cut, the price of HSD stood at a staggering Rs285.83 per litre. The price of HSD had recorded a significant increase before the government reduced prices since May 15, HSD rates shot up by Rs27 per litre.

Light diesel oil and Kerosene rates are projected to fall by approximately Rs8.2 per litre and Rs7.19 per litre, respectively.

However, the drop in HSD prices is likely to have the most noticeable impact on the economy as it lowers the operating costs for both the transport and agriculture sectors. The decrease may benefit the economy by helping lower food prices. HSD is widely used in agriculture to power tractors and other mechanised farming equipment.

A decrease in HSD rates could also benefit the transport sector, given its reliance on fuel. For instance, the transportation sector has diesel as a primary input and thus requires vast quantities of the commodity. Lower HSD prices imply lower operational costs for businesses in the transportation sector.

  • Putin says ‘understanding’ with Trump on Ukraine

Putin says ‘understanding’ with Trump on Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday spoke of an “understanding” reached with US counterpart Donald Trump which he said could bring peace in Ukraine, without giving any details.

The leaders met for a highly anticipated summit in Alaska to discuss Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and ways towards peace, but there was no apparent breakthrough deal.

“We hope that the understanding we have reached will… pave the way for peace in Ukraine,” Putin said at a joint press conference with Trump after their talks.

He said Moscow expected “that Kyiv and the European capitals will perceive all this in a constructive manner and will not create any obstacles”.

He also warned against “attempts to disrupt the emerging progress through provocation or behind-the-scenes intrigues.”

The summit was held without Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky who was not invited to talks, raising concerns in Europe that Moscow and Washington would try to decide Ukraine’s fate behind its back.

Putin and Trump praised the meeting, with the Russian leader branding it as “constructive” and held in “mutually respectful atmosphere.”

Speaking about Ukraine, Putin said Russia was “sincerely interested in putting an end” to the conflict in Ukraine but called for Russia’s “legitimate concerns” to be taken into account.

“I have said more than once that for Russia, the events in Ukraine are associated with fundamental threats to our national security,” Putin said.

He added that “a fair balance in the security sphere in Europe and in the world as a whole must be restored.”

Russia has in the past repeatedly called on Ukraine to abandon its ambitions to join NATO and cede its eastern regions that Moscow claims to have annexed.

Ukraine has rejected the idea and called for any peace deal to include security guarantees to prevent Russia from attacking again.

Putin, landing in Alaska, stepped onto Western soil for the first time since he ordered the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, a war that has killed tens of thousands of people.

On Friday he offered to host Trump in Moscow, extending the apparent invitation during their press conference.

“Next time in Moscow,” Putin told Trump in English after the US president said he would “probably see you again very soon.”

“Oh, that’s an interesting one,” Trump responded. “I’ll get a little heat on that one, but I could see it possibly happening.”

A mother of three was allegedly tortured to death by her husband in Rawalpindi over domestic issues on Friday, according to media reports.

The police reportedly registered an FIR against her husband, Amir Abbas, and their children on charges of murder and concealing evidence.

Ghulam Akhtar, a resident of Kot Adu in Muzaffargarh district, lodged the FIR at the Dhamial police station. He said his daughter, Samina, married Amir Abbas 19 years ago by choice and had been living with him in Malik Colony, Girja Road, Rawalpindi. The couple had three children, Mohammad Zaman, 17, Shan Haider, 15, and Maryam Rani, 12.

Akhtar said, “On Wednesday morning, an announcement was made in our native town that my daughter’s funeral would be held at 8am in a local graveyard, but no one from our family had been informed about her death.”

He added that he, along with his brothers Ghulam Rasool and Abdul Rehman, and his sister Kalsoom Bibi, went to Amir Abbas’s home. “My sister Kalsoom Bibi and other women saw torture marks on Samina’s body,” he said.

Akhtar told police that he called the emergency helpline in Kot Adu for assistance. “As soon as I contacted the police, Amir Abbas and his children began threatening me with dire consequences,” he alleged.

The reports added that Kot Adu police informed Akhtar that the incident fell under the jurisdiction of Dhamial police in Rawalpindi. The case was then taken up by Dhamial police, who transported Samina’s body to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Rawalpindi for postmortem examination.

In his complaint, Akhtar alleged that his son-in-law, Amir Abbas, along with his children, had murdered his daughter.

  • Shami’s ex-wife slams him for not spending money on his own daughter

Shami’s ex-wife slams him for not spending money on his own daughter

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami’s former wife, Haseen Jahan, has accused him of neglecting their daughter’s education expenses while allegedly spending lavishly on the children of his girlfriends.

Jahan, a former model, married Shami in 2014, and the couple welcomed their daughter Aira in 2015. In 2018, she separated from the cricketer after accusing him of domestic violence, adultery, and dowry harassment.

In a social media post, Jahan alleged that Shami refused to support their daughter’s admission to a good school. Sharing Aira’s photo on Instagram, she wrote, “By the grace of Allah, I am very happy today, because enemies wanted my daughter not to get admission in a good school, but with Allah’s blessings, my daughter has now been admitted to a reputed international school. Alhamdulillah.”

She further claimed that, despite his wealth, Shami tried to obstruct their daughter’s education. “The father of my daughter, who is a multi-millionaire, tried hard to stop her from studying in a good school. Just because of his affairs with other women, he was playing with his daughter’s future. He sent his girlfriends’ children to the best schools, spent lakhs on business class flights for women, but refused to pay for his own daughter’s education,” she said.

Jahan added, “I thank Allah that there is law in this country, otherwise I don’t know what would have happened to us.”

Last month, the Kolkata High Court ordered Shami to pay a monthly allowance of 400,000 Indian rupees to his estranged wife and daughter. According to the ruling, Jahan will receive 150,000 rupees per month while Aira will receive 250,000 rupees. The court also said Shami is free to voluntarily contribute toward his daughter’s educational and other expenses.

However, Jahan challenged the ruling, filing a plea in the High Court to raise the allowance to 700,000 rupees for herself and 300,000 rupees for her daughter.

Taron Egerton Biography, Movies, Career & Fun Facts

Taron Egerton is one of the most dynamic and versatile actors working today. Born on November 10, 1989, in Birkenhead, United Kingdom, he grew up in both England and Wales. Although he was born in England, Taron proudly identifies as Welsh, and his heritage plays an important role in his identity. His name comes from a creative twist on the Welsh word “Taran,” which means thunder, giving him a distinctive name that fans easily remember. Standing at around one meter seventy-five centimeters, he may not be the tallest actor in Hollywood, but he makes up for it with charisma, presence, and talent.

From a young age, Taron was drawn to performance and storytelling. After finishing school, he pursued formal acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. This rigorous education gave him a strong foundation in stagecraft, voice work, and character development. He began his career in theater productions, which helped him develop discipline and confidence in front of an audience. His earliest stage appearances included plays such as The Last of the Haussmans, where his ability to bring emotional truth to a role quickly became evident.

Early Career and Breakthrough in Film

Taron’s first on-screen appearances came on British television. He appeared in the detective drama series Lewis, where he played small but memorable parts. This early work allowed him to get comfortable with the camera and prepared him for the leap to feature films.

That leap came in 2014 when he starred in Kingsman: The Secret Service. Playing Gary “Eggsy” Unwin, a working-class young man recruited into a secret spy organization, Taron blended sharp humor, impressive stunt work, and emotional vulnerability. The film was a huge international success and instantly made him a household name. Critics praised his natural charm, and audiences responded to his underdog appeal. For this role, he won the Empire Award for Best Male Newcomer, cementing his arrival in Hollywood.

    Building a Diverse Career

Rather than sticking to the spy action genre after Kingsman, Taron chose projects that challenged him in different ways. In Testament of Youth, released in 2014, he played a World War I soldier in a touching historical drama. In Eddie the Eagle, released in 2016, he transformed into Michael Edwards, a real-life ski jumper who became an unlikely British Olympic hero. This role showed Taron’s gift for combining humor with heartfelt emotion.

That same year, he entered the world of animation with Sing, where he voiced Johnny, a teenage gorilla with a passion for music. His singing talent surprised many fans, proving that he could perform vocally as well as physically. In 2017, he returned to his breakout role in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, which expanded the story and gave him even more elaborate action scenes.

    The Rocketman Transformation

In 2019, Taron took on what many consider the defining role of his career so far. He played Elton John in the musical biopic Rocketman. This was no simple imitation. Taron performed every song himself, learning to play piano and studying Elton’s movements and mannerisms. He captured not just the flamboyant stage persona but also the vulnerability and personal struggles behind the music. The result was a performance filled with energy, depth, and authenticity.

His work in Rocketman earned him the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and nominations from other major award bodies. Fans and critics alike agreed that he had gone beyond simple impersonation to create a fully realized portrait of a living legend.

    Moving Into Television Drama

After Rocketman, Taron made an unexpected shift into television. In 2022, he starred in the Apple TV+ limited series Black Bird. Based on a true story, the series followed Jimmy Keene, a man offered early release from prison if he could befriend a suspected serial killer and get a confession. This tense psychological drama allowed Taron to show a darker and more intense side of his acting range. His performance received critical acclaim and an Emmy Award nomination.

In 2024, he returned to Apple TV+ in the crime thriller Smoke, where he played an arson investigator with personal issues. The series blended suspense, mystery, and moments of humor, allowing Taron to demonstrate once again his range and ability to connect with audiences on an emotional level.

In 2025, he appeared in She Rides Shotgun, a gritty drama in which he played an ex-convict protecting his young daughter from dangerous criminals. This role combined physical action with emotional depth, showing his ability to portray both toughness and tenderness. He also served as an executive producer on the film, demonstrating his growing influence behind the camera.

Looking ahead, Taron will star in the Netflix thriller Apex alongside Charlize Theron and Eric Bana. The project is expected to explore high-stakes drama with complex characters, which suits his strengths perfectly.

Why Taron Egerton Connects With Audiences

Part of Taron’s appeal is his refusal to be boxed into a single type of role. He is equally comfortable in blockbuster action films, heartfelt dramas, musical performances, and animated family entertainment. This versatility keeps his career fresh and ensures that his work reaches a wide audience.

Another reason for his popularity is his emotional honesty on screen. Whether playing a real-life icon like Elton John or a fictional spy like Eggsy, he grounds his performances in genuine feeling. Viewers believe his characters because he approaches each one with sincerity and care.

Taron is also selective about the roles he takes. He has publicly said that he has no interest in playing James Bond at this stage in his career, believing that the role might limit his creative choices. This honesty and self-awareness make him relatable to fans who appreciate authenticity over image.

    Fun Facts and Personal Insights

Taron’s Welsh identity is important to him, and he often speaks about his pride in his heritage. He has a natural singing voice that has surprised many fans, first showcased in Sing and then fully displayed in Rocketman. He is also known for performing many of his stunts in action films, which adds authenticity to his physical roles. Off-screen, he has a reputation for being approachable and appreciative of his fans, often engaging with them at events and through social media.
