    A dog was beaten, tortured and hanged in broad daylight by a man accompanied by a huge mob in Karachi as per JFK Animal Rescue And Shelter.

    In the video, a man can be seen beating a tied up dog with a stick in front of a mob.

    Reportedly, the incident took place in Ghausia Mobile Market, Kharadar, in Karachi.

    As per the animal rescue and shelter, “Apparently they plan on doing this to all street dogs in that area.”

    Animal abuse and zoos in Pakistan have long drawn international condemnation for their mistreatment of animals. Last year, on December 16, Islamabad’s Marghazar Zoo was shut down after the Islamabad High Court ordered for Kaavan the elephant and two brown bears Babloo and Suzie to be relocated to sanctuaries abroad.

    Punjab govt announces Rs1 million cash rewards for Arshad, Talha and Shehroz

    The Punjab government on Tuesday announced cash rewards of Rs1 million for javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, weightlifter Talha Talib and mountaineer Shehroz Kashif for their recent stellar performances at the global level.

    Nadeem missed out on an Olympic medal and finished fifth in the javelin throw event at the Tokyo Olympics, but the athlete from Mian Chunnu received wide acclaim back home for his achievement with little resources at his disposal.

    Similarly, 21-year-old weightlifter Talha Talib from Gujranwala took part in the 67kg category in the Tokyo Olympics and held the gold medal spot until the final round before eventually being bumped down and finishing fifth in the competition. However, he was widely hailed in the country for his effort.

    Kashif, 19, had on July 27 become the youngest person to reach the summit of K2. The world’s second-highest peak at a height of 8,611 metres (28,251 foot) above sea level, with the aid of bottled oxygen.

    Hailing the athletes for their remarkable gains, Punjab Sports Minister Rai Taimur Khan Bhatti said the nation watched the Tokyo Olympics with zeal, while Pakistan’s participants Nadeem and Talib “did really well” in the competition.

    Addressing a press conference, Bhatti said he would personally visit the airport to receive Nadeem. The minister said that the Government of Punjab had always supported and encouraged sports persons.

    He also announced an award of Rs0.5m for Nadeem’s coach.

    The minister further said the Punjab government would bear travel expenses of Haider Ali and Nabila Baig, who will take part in the Paralympic Games.

  • Police arrest teacher for raping, blackmailing woman in Chiniot

    Police arrested a schoolteacher for allegedly raping a married woman, recording her videos and blackmailing her to get gold jewellery and cash, Dawn reported.

    The suspect is a teacher at the Government High School, Chiniot. The woman’s son, a student of 10th class, was his student at his private academy.

    The survivor’s husband filed a complaint with the city police stating that the suspect would call his wife to his academy for discussing matters related to his son’s studies.

    He said some weeks ago his wife fell sick and went to a local quack, Shafiq, to take medicines where the suspect also arrived. He said that Shafiq and the teacher gave sedatives to his wife and when she was falling unconscious, the suspect (teacher) accompanied her to their house to drop her there.

    The complainant said that finding her alone at the house, the suspect raped her and filmed objectionable videos.

    He said later the teacher started blackmailing his wife and asked her to give her gold jewellery to him, or he would post the obscene clip on social media.

    He said his wife got blackmailed and gave the suspect nine-tola gold jewellery. Similarly, he said, a few days later the suspect received Rs250,000 cash from her. Then the suspect demanded one million rupees but she could not arrange the amount.

    When she refused to pay the amount, the suspect got angry and sent the videos to the in-laws of their daughter, who was divorced by her husband over the issue.

    Finally, the blackmailed woman revealed the whole story to her husband, who registered a complaint with the city police.

    The police registered a case under sections 376, 382 and 506 of PPC against the suspect and arrested him and his accomplice Shafiq.

    District Education Officer Dr Khadim Hussain said the teacher had been suspended from service and a departmental inquiry had been started against him under the Punjab Employees Efficiency and Discipline ACT (PEEDA), 2006.

    Actor Anoushey Ashraf has called out senior anchor Imran Khan for his insensitive remarks on the Noor murder case. The Chinaar Ghaati actor shared the clip of Imran’s statement on her Instagram story and wrote: “I have five messages to my dad and 45 voice note to my driver over the last five months.”

    She continued further by expressing her anger over Khan’s statement, “Take up Bollywood gossip if you want viewership, leave Noor and her honour alone.”

    A video clip of Imran is making rounds across social media platforms for the last two days in which Imran can be heard drawing parallels between Noor Mukadam’s murder and her lack of telephonic conversation with her father. His comments have been scrutinized by netizens on social media.

    Jawani Phir Nahi Aani star Sarwat Gillani also expressed her stance on the problematic statements of the senior journalist, with a comment, “When ‘educated’ people make such statements you know the state of affairs and state of mind both are in the wrong place.”

    “What about the murderer, follow some rules and do not kill people,” she stated in another comment.

     The Hindu temple in Bhong town that was vandalised by a mob has been completely restored to its original shape and handed over back to the minority community, reported Dawn.

    Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Khuram Shehzad said that for the security of the temple, a boundary wall was also being constructed around it.

    He said the work on the restoration of the idols (Moorti) damaged during the attack on the temple would be completed soon.

    DC said that all the expenses required for the restoration of the temple would be recovered from the rioters involved in the attack.

    Shehzad added that it would take two months to complete the work on the restoration of the idols in the temple.

    He said the Hindu community would start performing religious rites at the temple after the restoration of the idols.

    PML-N changes stance, no longer opposes the Anti-Rape Ordinance

    The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) moved a resolution in the National Assembly today for the disapproval of the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Ordinance, 2020. According to an official document by the National Assembly Secretariat, members from the Opposition party were to move against the Anti-Rape Ordinance.

    However, the PML-N has withdrawn its resolution against the Anti-Rape Ordinance.

    PML-N’s Secretary Parliamentary Affairs Shaza Fatima Khawaja told The Current that there were several Ordinances that were passed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government. The PML-N has a considered stance to oppose any legislation that is brought through Ordinances, which is why the PML-N prepared resolutions for dissolution for all of them because they were not going through proper legislative procedures. “This became one of them by mistake,” says Shaza. The PML-N has now withdrawn its resolution for disapproval of the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Ordinance, 2020.

    Shaza added that the PML-N would like the government to bring this legislation to parliament as concerns were also raised by the Women’s Action Forum (WAF) and the Women’s Lawyers’ Association (WLA) about the Anti-Rape Ordinance.

    “PML-N stands for women’s rights and would want a pro-women law that can also be implemented without any bureaucratic or other hurdles.” Shahza Khawaja said that despite strong opposition from PTI and other parties, the PML-N has been able to pass progressive and pro-women legislation, including the Anti-Rape Laws 2016, Anti-Honour Killing Bill, as well as Protection of Women against Violence Bill in Punjab.

    In response to a tweet, Shaza Khawaja tweeted that the PML-N unequivocally stands with women’s rights in every sense of the word.

    Twitterati reacted to PML-N’s withdrawing the resolution.

    Farieha Aziz tweeted, “Bills will be detrimental, not beneficial if passed in their current form. Must not be passed as they are.”

    Lawyer Reema Omer tweeted, “It was bizarre – even if well-intentioned – to make such radical reform in criminal law through ordinances anyway. The focus now must be on the anti-rape bills, which have some serious problems.”

    Pakistan on Tuesday “categorically rejected” a report published in The Guardian, which alleges that Pakistan was cracking down on dissidents abroad, adding that such accusations were baseless.

    Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said that the unsubstantiated allegations appeared to be part of the rather “blatant on-going misinformation campaign” against Pakistan to malign the country and its state institutions.

    “Pakistan is a parliamentary democracy with a vibrant civil society, free media, and independent judiciary, which remains fully committed to the promotion and protection of human rights for all its citizens without discrimination,” said the FO spokesperson. “Our strong commitment to the right to freedom of opinion and expression is demonstrated by the presence of scores of vibrant media channels and newspapers in the country.”

    Chaudhri said it was regrettable that any news outlet provided a “platform for the peddling of unsubstantiated and false narratives against Pakistan”.

    British security sources are understood to be concerned that Pakistan might be prepared to target individuals on British soil, said a report published in The Guardian.

    According to the report, there are further warnings given by other intelligence services across Europe to Pakistani dissidents, including rights activists from Balochistan, journalists, and members of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM).

    “If there is illegal pressure, in particular on journalists in the UK, then I would expect the law enforcement agencies and the British government to take notice of that and to make an appropriate legal and/or diplomatic response,” said Mark Lyall Grant, former UK High Commissioner to Pakistan.

    Actor Yasir Hussain has criticised local film industry for “not telling our own stories.” The Jhooti actor referred to the announcement of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s forthcoming Netflix series, ‘Heera Mandi’.

    He wants local filmmakers to cover it’s own cultural heritage.

    “Yah Hai Lahore Mai aur Movie Indians bana rahy hain. Phir hum Kahengy sab ghalat Dikhaya,” wrote Yasir.

    “Pata Nahi hum Apni Cheezon Kay bary mai kab baat karengy. Apni Kahaniyan Kab Sunaengy,” he added.

    The period drama titled Heera Mandi will revolve around the lives of sex workers, working in Lahore’s red-light area.

    In a statement, Bhansali said, “Heeramandi is an important milestone in my journey as a filmmaker. This is an epic, first of its kind series based on the courtesans of Lahore. It is an ambitious, grand and all-encompassing series; therefore I am nervous yet excited about making it. I am looking forward to my partnership with Netflix and bringing Heera Mandi to audiences all over the world.”

    The series will be premiered on Netflix in late 2022.
