    ‘Tareen is not the kind who can maintain friendships,’ Nazir Chohan quits Tareen group

    Punjab MPA Nazir Chohan, a loyalist of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stalwart Jahangir Khan Tareen (JKT), has quit Tareen’s PTI faction.

    Addressing a media briefing in Lahore, alongside Punjab Minister for Prisons Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan, Nazir said, “Jahangir Tareen used me.”

    “Jahangir Tareen is a big name, he only used me to his benefit and later abandoned me,” said Nazir.

    Nazir further added, “Tareen should be ashamed of himself, he never inquired about my health while I was in the hospital.” “When he was in difficulty I stood by him. I used to be a part of all his hearings in the ongoing sugar scam against him [JKT],” said Nazir.

    Nazir said that he was “never once called” by Tareen in his hour of need, nor did Tareen ask my children about my health.

    MPA Nazir Chohan was brought to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) after he developed heart problems while he was in FIA custody.

    “Tareen is not the kind who can maintain friendships,” added Nazir.

    On Tuesday, adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior and Accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar forgave Punjab MPA Nazir Chohan. PM’s aide had earlier asserted that Chohan ran a “fake campaign” against him, “putting his life, as well as those of his family at risk”.

    Nazir was arrested as a consequence of the allegations against Akbar.

    Noor Mukadam’s sister Sara Mukadam has penned down a heartfelt for her sister on the social media site, Instagram, talking about her sister, who was brutally murdered in Islamabad on July 20.

    “Noorah! I miss you so much! I don’t know how to live a life without you. I miss you every breathing moment. We had made so many plans for your birthday this year,” wrote Noor’s sister while sharing a picture of herself with Noor.

    “Noorah! I miss you so much! World is not the same without your Noor. We can never celebrate another birthday, another Eid, or lead normal lives,” she added more.

    “Noor, you will get justice. In Shaa Allah. The world is behind you,” she concluded.

    Noor Mukadam is the daughter of a former Pakistani diplomat. She found murdered at a residence in the capital’s upscale Sector F-7/4 and the alleged murderer, Zahir Jaffar was arrested for the murder.

  • Nowshera man arrested for trying to rape five-year-old granddaughter

    Police have filed an FIR against an elderly man for attempting to rape his five-year-old granddaughter in Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

    As per reports, a police official told The Express Tribune that a woman registered an FIR with Pabbi police, stating that she asked her five-year-old daughter to take dinner to her grandfather and when the minor girl returned, she was crying. 

    “I asked the child what happened to her and she said that her grandfather, Mir Basher tried to rape her but when she started crying, he let her go,” the mother stated, adding that the accused Mir Basher is her father-in-law and had married thrice.

    “One of his wives is dead. Another one is suffering from mental ailments and the third one is living with him but even then he tried to rape my minor daughter,” she told the police.

    Later, the victim’s father also reported the incident to the police after which an FIR was registered against the accused. Police said that the accused has been booked.

    “This man has been booked under section 50 and 53 of Child Protection Act (CPA) and has been arrested for trying to commit incest,” said an investigation officer.

    The investigation officer added that incest is more common despite a common belief that our religious society is free of such crimes.

  • Covid-19: New lockdown restrictions in Islamabad

    Amid the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in the country, new lockdown orders have been announced for Islamabad. As per the notification, the following restrictions have been imposed:

    • Cinemas closed
    • Shrines closed
    • Transport 50%
    • Offices 50%
    • Saturday and Sunday full lockdown
    • All indoor functions/weddings banned
    • Time for markets 8pm
    • Contact sports , pools, parks closed
    • Masks compulsory
    • Gyms allowed for vaccinated individuals only

    The new Covid-19 restrictions were imposed on August 3 and will remain in place till August 31.

    As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan has recorded 4,722 new cases of Covid-19 with the positivity rate of 8.22 per cent.

    US gymnast Suni Lee to delete Twitter after blaming missing out on gold due to social media

    US gymnast Suni Lee has put her imperfect performance on the uneven bars down to being distracted by social media.

    A break-out star at the Tokyo Olympics, Lee won gold in the individual all-around and silver in the team all-around at this year’s games.

    Her achievements made history, as she became the first Asian-American woman to win gold in the Olympics’ all-around competition.

    The 18-year-old also took bronze for the uneven bars, but despite her success, told reporters she had been disappointed not to do better, explaining that she considered the bars to be “my thing”.

    Lee was the clear favourite to win the uneven bars final, but uncharacteristic errors and an uneven performance meant Belgium’s Nina Derwael and Russia’s Anastasiia Iliankova were able to take first and second place.

    “Bars is something I really cherish,” Lee said after the competition, reports the Associated Press. “So when I mess it up, it really sucks.”

    Lee was positive about being able to go home with bronze, silver and gold medals, but expressed regret that her wins weren’t exactly what she had envisioned:

    “It’s really cool,” Lee said in the report. “I just wish the bronze medal was a beam medal, not bars.”

    Explaining to People, Lee said she thought social media had played a part in her being less than her best on Sunday, saying she had “got distracted and lost focus a little bit when I won the gold medal” in the all-around three days earlier.

    She also admitted that she has spent a lot of time on social media while in Tokyo.

    Four missing girls from Lahore found in Sahiwal: Police

     Four girls who went missing for the last four days have been found in Sahiwal, Geo News reported Wednesday.

    As per reports, they went missing from Lahore’s Hanjarwal area. The mother of two of the girls said that her daughters went missing with their neighbours’ daughters at 8pm on July 30.

    “Out of fear of humiliation, we did not inform anyone and searched for the girls ourselves,” she said.

    According to the police, the four girls were found in Sahiwal and Lahore police officials had gone to Sahiwal to pick them up from there.

    The girls reportedly said that they were not kidnapped by anyone but turned off their mobile phones for fear of being scolded by their parents. The police traced their location when one of the girls switched on her mobile phone.

    Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had ordered Punjab Police to recover the missing girls and told Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore to submit a report.

    In a similar incident, the Lahore police found four more girls who had run away from Pakpattan, according to a statement issued by the CCPO Lahore. The case was reported to Pakpattan police.

    According to a statement given to the police, the girls said they fled Pakpattan because they feared their uncle. The girls will be safely sent to their families, Lahore CCPO Ghulam Mahmood Dogar said.

    Islamabad Police registered a case against a couple for a photo shoot in front of Quaid-e-Azam’s portrait in Islamabad under Section 294 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), reported ARY News.

    The case has been registered on the complaint of Rashid Malik. In the complaint, Rashid Malik says that the pictures have been taken in revealing dresses in front of the portrait of the country’s founder Quaid-e-Azam, which has hurt our sentiments, and requested authorities to take action against the involved people. Koral Police station registered the case and started an inquiry.

    Earlier, senior journalist Ansar Abbasi took to Twitter and requested Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqat to arrest the models who posed in front of Quaid’s portrait.

    Pakistan condemns Modi for not allowing India-based foreign journalists to visit Pakistan

    India has refused permission to allow five India-based international journalists to travel to Pakistan via Wagah.

    Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi pointed out how the Indian government’s decision indicated that the space for free speech and independent journalism was shrinking in India under a “dictatorial regime”. Qureshi said the five journalists were to travel to Pakistan and were also to visit the Azad Kashmir Assembly.

    Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry also condemned New Delhi for refusing permission to the international journalists to visit Azad Kashmir. 

    The minister took to Twitter and questioned India for its freedom of expression.

    National Security Adviser Moeed Yusuf said these “are the actions of an insecure government that has much to hide”.

    Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari questioned whether the foreign journalists will expose the growing myth of Indian democracy under the fascist Modi regime.

    Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar tweeted, “We want the world to see what is happening in Azad Kashmir and they want to hide what is happening in Indian Occupied Kashmir. The difference between right and wrong cannot get more stark than this.”

    A request by Pakistan to allow a group of five India-based foreign journalists to travel to Islamabad through Wagah has been declined by Indian authorities as the border crossing is virtually closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, reported Times of India.

    The report stated that Pakistan planned to take the journalists for interactions with top political leadership and senior officials on the overall situation in Afghanistan.

    “One of the persons familiar with the development said the visit was planned from August 3 to 7,” read the report.
