‘Pakistan to expedite work on joint entertainment productions with Saudi Arabia’

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz has said that Pakistan is working to speed up work on joint entertainment productions with Saudi Arabia. Three serials – Dhoop KinareTanhaiyan and Aahat – have been selected for dubbing in Arabic.

According to a report in Arab News, Faraz said that Islamabad wanted to enhance cultural cooperation with Riyadh, which is why the government aims to ‘speed up’ work on joint film and television productions to bring the people of the two countries closer.

“Some dramas and films have been dubbed and sent there [Saudi Arabia],” said Faraz, adding that a few were even watched by the royal family, including Hareem Farooq and Ali Rehman Khan’s Parchi.”

Parchi was the first Pakistani film ever to release in Saudi Arabia in 2018 and one of the first international releases in the Kingdom after a nearly 40-year ban on cinemas came to an end.

In April 2019, the then Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, in a press conference in Riyadh, had announced that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were in talks for increasing cultural exchange between the two countries.

Chaudhary confirmed Pakistan’s wish to participate in Saudi Arabia’s cultural revival and said it was willing to support its newly established performing arts academies by sharing the expertise of its actors, directors and other artists like calligraphers.

Later, addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Asad said that Veena abducted their children from Dubai and Pakistan’s consulate general in Dubai is involved in the kidnapping.

Asad further added that Veena threatens him by claiming she has state institutions on her back.

“Veena is defaming our state institutions, but the authorities are not taking any action against her,” alleged Khattak.

He also stated that Veena is threatening him and if anything happens to him or his family, Veena will be responsible.

Khattak also appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa for “justice”.

Last month, Veena had filed a complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) against her ex-husband for initiating a social media campaign that was tarnishing her reputation.

  • Another old tweet comes to haunt Imran as 11 Hazara miners killed

Another old tweet comes to haunt Imran as 11 Hazara miners killed

After an attack by the Islamic State in Mach, a town in Bolan district of Balochistan, left 11 Hazara coalminers dead on Sunday, another tweet from the past has come back to haunt Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In 2013, Imran had reacted to the Hazara killings by the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi by holding the state responsible for its inability to stop these killings.

“Tragic news from Quetta. Condemn Lashkar-e-Jhangiv for its genocidal campaign against Shias, especially Hazaras. Where is the state?” Imran had tweeted.

However, this time, the massacre has happened during the government of Imran Khan and except a tweet, the PM has done nothing. This has also drawn flak from the opposition that has questioned the actions taken by the government to arrest the culprits.

Senator Sherry Rehman said that despite the magnitude of this tragedy, the PM or the CM of Balochistan had not visited the families of the victims. “Our PM sat on the ground with half the cabinet members when something similar happened to the Hazaras in the past. What is PM Imran Khan waiting for?” she was quoted by The News as saying.

Meanwhile, protests in Quetta against the killings have continued. On Monday, protesters gathered with eight of the bodies in coffins and blocked a bypass on the outskirts of Quetta, demanding justice.

OLD TWEETS COME TO BITE IMRAN:

This is not the first time that old tweets of PM Imran Khan have come to haunt him.

As PM Imran reached China amid Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) nationwide protests in 2018, a 2012 tweet of his, went viral. In the tweet, he had criticised the then premier, Yousaf Raza Gillani, for traveling abroad as the country “burned”.

After train accident in which 24 people were killed, the PM was also reminded of his tweet, wherein he demanded the resignation of the railways minister following a train accident. However, he didn’t ask then railways minister Sheikh Rasheed to resign even though his old tweet had gone viral at the time.

  • Pakistan asks UN to take notice of rights violations in occupied Kashmir, fulfill plebiscite promise

Pakistan asks UN to take notice of rights violations in occupied Kashmir, fulfill plebiscite promise

Prime Minister Imran Khan has asked the United Nations and its member states to take notice of atrocities in occupied Kashmir while reminding the world body of its promise of holding an impartial plebiscite in the region.

The PM said Pakistan would stand with the Kashmiri people till the realisation of their right to self-determination, adding that on Jan 5, 1949, the UN “guaranteed the right to self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir through an impartial plebiscite”.

“We observe this day as a reminder to the UN and its member state of their unfulfilled commitment to the Kashmiri people.”

In a statement shared by the APP, the PM said: “Being a direct party to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, Pakistan will continue to underscore the imperative of holding a free and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions.”

According to the PM, the importance of the right to self-determination has been acknowledged in various human rights conventions and decisions of the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council. However, due to the “Indian intransigence, the Security Council has failed to fulfill its pledge to the Kashmiri people”.

  • Urmila hits back at Kangana, asks her to share names of drug addicts in Bollywood

There is never a dull moment in the life of Kangana Ranaut, whose favourite past time includes picking fights with colleagues and others on social media.

After a Twitter feud with Diljit Dosanjh, Ranaut is now engaged in a row with Urmila Matondkar, accusing her of illegally purchasing her new offices.

On January 3, Kangana accused Urmila of buying property worth three crore through illegal means soon after entering politics.

“Dear Urmila Ji, the houses I built from my hard-earned money are being demolished by the Congress,” wrote Kangana on social media. “By impressing BJP, I have only gotten 25-30 legal cases against me.”

“I wish I was as smart as you and would’ve kept Congress happy. How foolish of me, no?,” she added.

In response to Kangana’s allegations, Urmila posted a short video in which she hit back at Ranaut and asked her to meet her so that she can share the property documents with her.

Namashkar Kangana Ji,” said Matondkar in the video. “The high regards that you have for me, I have heard them. In fact, the whole country has heard them.”

“Today, in front of the entire country, I request you to set a place and time and I will bring all my documents there. The documents will carry all the papers of my property,” continued the actor.

“In 2011, after working hard in the industry for a short span of 25-30 years, I purchased a flat in Andheri,” said Urmila. “I will bring the documents of that flat. I sold that house in the first week of March and I will bring those papers too. And there will also be documents of the flat that I have now purchased from the money that I got. I bought this flat much before I entered politics. I wanted to show you that.”

Urmila, in the video, also asked Kangana to share a list of people from the industry who she claimed were involved in drugs, as promised.

“In return what I want is this. Using the money paid by lakhs and crores of taxpayers like me, you were given the Y-plus security by the government because you said you had names of many people whom you wanted to report to the NCB. The whole country is waiting for it today.”

“I’ll be waiting for your answer,” she concluded.

Matondkar joined the Indian National Congress on March 27, 2019, and contested from Mumbai North constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election. But she lost the election. On September 10, 2019, she resigned from the party, citing petty internal politics. On December 1, 2020, she joined Shiv Sena.

Last year in September, Urmila and Kangana were engaged in another Twitter feud after Ranaut referred to Matondkar a ‘soft porn star’ over her political affiliations.
