VIDEO: Pakistan Navy detects Indian surveillance aircraft

The Pakistan Navy detected and closely monitored an Indian Navy surveillance aircraft, the P-8I, during the night of May 4 and 5, according to media reports citing APP.

The American-made maritime patrol plane, which the Pak Navy continued to monitor, is typically used for reconnaissance missions.

Earlier, the vigilant operations of the Pakistan Navy forced the Indian aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, to retreat from near Pakistani waters.

Media outlets quoted security sources as saying that INS Vikrant had been deployed to the northern Arabian Sea on April 23 amid rising tensions between the two countries.

The latest satellite intelligence (IMINT) images show that INS Vikrant was re-moored at the Indian port of Karwar after spending several days at sea.

The deployment and subsequent withdrawal highlight the growing military power play in the region following the April 22 militant attack in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which claimed 26 lives. Since then, India has been blaming Pakistan for the incident without providing any concrete evidence.

Mohammed Shami receives death threats with hefty extortion demand

Senior member of the Indian cricket team, Mohammed Shami, has received death threats demanding one crore Indian rupees during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The star fast bowler, who is playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in this year’s tournament, was sent threatening emails warning of possible harm to his life.

According to media reports, Shami, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, received multiple threatening emails while participating in the league. His brother Haseeb Ahmed then filed a police complaint at the local police station, and a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered.

Police authorities are now investigating the matter, and additional security measures may be taken to ensure Shami’s safety during the remainder of the tournament.

Mohammed Shami is one of India’s most experienced fast bowlers. He has taken 133 wickets in IPL, while in international T20s, he has represented India in 25 matches and taken 27 wickets. His ODI record stands at 206 wickets, and he has claimed 229 wickets in Test cricket.

This is not the first time a high-profile Indian cricketer has received such threats. Previously, the team’s head coach Gautam Gambhir was also sent a threatening email. After a police investigation, a suspect was arrested and later identified as a mentally disturbed individual.

The suspect’s family apologized to Gambhir and informed authorities about his medical condition.

‘You’re two hours away from death’: Did Bushra Ansari just hit out at Javed Akhtar?

Pakistan’s renowned actor Bushra Ansari has clapped back at recent hate-filled remarks by an Indian literary figure following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Though she didn’t name anyone, many on social media believe her comments were aimed at lyricist Javed Akhtar, who recently called on the Indian government to take action against Pakistan.

Speaking during a trip abroad, Bushra said in a video that the “so-called writer was just waiting for an excuse. He couldn’t even get a house on rent in Bombay. For his survival, he’ll say anything.”

She went on, “You’re two hours from death and still spewing nonsense. Stop this madness. Show some dignity.”

Bushra questioned the motive behind such comments, saying they seemed driven by fear and greed. “Even Naseeruddin Shah is quiet. Others are staying silent too. Why can’t he?” she asked.

Stressing that ordinary people on both sides aren’t enemies, she shared how Indian girls abroad had welcomed her with warmth. “People aren’t bad,” she said. “You people are the ones fuelling hate, turning hearts against each other.”

Although Bushra did not name Javed Akhtar, her video sparked a strong reaction online, with many praising her for speaking out boldly.

“Love you ❤❤❤ Salamat rehain. Javed Akhtar deserves this.”

“The way she roasted Javed Akhtar Maza aa gaya ”

“Very well said, and the way you have roasted that Javed Akhtar is absolutely amazing. ❤❤❤ ”

Earlier, Javed Akhtar had publicly urged the Indian central government to take firm action against Pakistan over its alleged involvement in the Pahalgam attack. Speaking at the Glorious Maharashtra Festival, he said, as quoted by ANI: “This has happened not just once but several times. I request that the Central Government take immediate steps. A few crackers on the border will not work. Take a solid step now.”

He added, “That mad Army chief (in Pakistan) says Hindus and Muslims are different communities. He does not even care that there are Hindus in his country too. What kind of man is he? They should get a befitting reply so that they remember.

The attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on April 22 claimed the lives of 26 people. Since then, India has been blaming Pakistan for the incident without providing any concrete evidence.

Huge dust storm sweeps into Iran, affecting millions

Iranian authorities ordered schools and offices closed in seven western provinces Tuesday as a dust storm swept in from neighbouring Iraq, with around 13 million people told to stay indoors.

Khuzestan, Kermanshah, Ilam and Kurdistan provinces were all affected, and state television cited local officials as blaming the closures on high levels of accumulated dust.

Government and private offices also shut in several provinces including Kermanshah and Ilam, as well as Khuzestan in the southwest.

Zanjan in the northeast and Bushehr in the south were also hit.

Bushehr, nearly 1,100 kilometres (680 miles) south of Tehran, was given an Air Quality Index of 108 on Tuesday, rated “poor for sensitive groups”.

That figure is more than four times higher than the concentration of air microparticles deemed acceptable by the World Health Organization.

Iran’s meteorological authorities said the conditions were caused by “the movement of a large mass of dust from Iraq towards western Iran”.

State television reported low visibility in some areas and urged residents to remain inside and to wear face masks if they had to go out.

Last month, a similar dust storm in Iraq grounded flights and sent thousands of people to hospital with breathing problems.

On Monday, Iran’s IRNA state news agency reported that more than 240 people in Khuzestan province had been treated for respiratory issues because of the dust.

  • Gazans struggling to survive as Israel plans for ‘conquest’

Gazans struggling to survive as Israel plans for ‘conquest’

Israel’s plan for the “conquest” of Gaza has sparked renewed fears, but for many of the territory’s residents, the most immediate threat to their lives remains the spectre of famine amid a months-long Israeli blockade.

The plan to expand military operations, approved by Israel’s security cabinet overnight, includes holding territories in the besieged Gaza Strip and moving the population south “for their protection”, an Israeli official said.

But Gaza residents told AFP that they did not expect the new offensive would make any significant changes to the already dire humanitarian situation in the small coastal territory.

“Israel has not stopped the war, the killing, the bombing, the destruction, the siege, and the starvation — every day — so how can they talk about expanding military operations?” Awni Awad, 39, told AFP.

Awad, who lives in a tent in the southern Gaza city of Khan Yunis after being displaced by Israeli evacuation orders, said that his situation was already “catastrophic and tragic”.

“I call on the world to witness the famine that grows and spreads every day,” he said.

The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) in late April said it had depleted all its foods stocks in Gaza due to Israel’s blockade on all supplies since March 2.

Aya al-Skafy, a resident of Gaza City, told AFP her baby died because of malnutrition and medicine shortages last week.

“She was four months old and weighed 2.8 kilograms (6.2 pounds), which is very little. Medicine was not available,” she said.

“Due to severe malnutrition, she suffered from blood acidity, liver and kidney failure, and many other complications. Her hair and nails also fell out due to malnutrition.”

Umm Hashem al-Saqqa, another Gaza City resident, fears her five-year-old son might face a similar fate, but is powerless to do anything about it.

“Hashem suffers from iron deficiency anaemia. He is constantly pale and lacks balance, and is unable to walk due to malnutrition,” she told AFP.

“There is no food, no medicine, and no nutritional supplements. The markets are empty of food, and the government clinics and pharmacies have nothing.”

    ‘Distract the world’

Gaza City resident Mohammed al-Shawa, 65, said that Israel’s new military roadmap changes little as it already controls most of Gaza.

“The Israeli announcement about expanding military operations in Gaza is just talk for the media, because the entire Gaza Strip is occupied, and there is no safe area in Gaza,” he said.

The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimates that 69 percent of Gaza has now been either incorporated into one of Israel’s buffer zones, or is subject to evacuation orders.

That number rises to 100 percent in the southern governorate of Rafah, where over 230,000 people lived before the genocide but which has now been entirely declared a no-go zone.

“There is no food, no medicine, and the announcement of an aid distribution plan is just to distract the world and mislead global public opinion,” Shawa said, referring to reports of a new Israeli plan for humanitarian aid delivery that has yet to be implemented.

“The reality is that Israel is killing Palestinians in Gaza by bombing, shooting, or through starvation and denial of medical treatment,” he said.

Israel says that its renewed bombardments and the blockade of Gaza are aimed at forcing Hamas to release hostages held in the territory.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich praised the new plan for Gaza on Monday and evoked a proposal previously floated by US President Donald Trump to displace the territory’s residents elsewhere.

The far-right firebrand said he would push for the plan’s completion, until “Hamas is defeated, Gaza is fully occupied, and Trump’s historical plan is implemented, with Gaza refugees resettled in other countries”.

  • Anwar Maqsood asks PM to revive cancelled NOC for ‘House Arrest’

Anwar Maqsood asks PM to revive cancelled NOC for ‘House Arrest’

Satirist Anwar Maqsood has requested Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif to revive the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for his latest theatre play titled “House Arrest,” which was cancelled after nine shows.

The notification issued by the Office of the District Magistrate Islamabad Capital Territory with the subject ‘Withdrawal of No Objection Certificate’ dated April 30 read, “…You are hereby directed not to conduct the said activity/event. In case of non-compliance, necessary legal proceedings will be initiated under the law.”

In a video statement, Maqsood called on the PM, saying, “The NOC of my play House Arrest was suddenly withdrawn after it was being performed nine times. There were still 11 shows left to be performed.”

Concerned about the financial loss, he explained that seven to eight new actors and actresses who were performing for the first time in the play were trained for one month. “There is always new talent in my every drama. I do not place senior actors in my play. We have suffered a great loss, and we are not wealthy either.”

“We request you [PM] to issue the NOC,” he concluded.

In February 2025, speaking at a press conference alongside Arts Council President Ahmed Shah in Karachi, Maqsood said that although the name of this play is House Arrest, it does not include any political satire, adding, “It does not include the name of any political party, any institution or any specific entity.”

The veteran writer explained that the play was actually an unusual story about a boy who had locked his mother, the owner of the house, in one of its rooms, along with her cousin.

On the choice of selecting the name of his play, House Arrest, he stated that he first named the drama Ghar No: 804, but the President of the Arts Council of Pakistan, Mohammad Ahmad Shah, asked him to change it.

“Then I came up with the title Extension; he again rejected it. Shah Sahib suggested I come up with something related to marriages. So I said let’s name the play Adiala Bana Aya Re, he turned down that as well. Finally, we settled on House Arrest. The thing is, it’s a simple story, not against anyone, I hope the audience will enjoy it,” Maqsood said.

He maintained that this will be one of the best plays in the country’s history.

House Arrest by Kopykats production was directed by Dawar Mehmood and produced by the Arts Council of Pakistan.

  • Former Pakistan star set for England debut

Former Pakistan star set for England debut

Many talented Pakistan-origin cricketers move abroad and represent other countries after not getting enough chances at home. Zafar Gohar, a left-arm spinner, could be the next player to represent another country if he manages to play for England.

Gohar was once considered a promising young talent in Pakistan. However, he didn’t receive many opportunities at the international level. Now, at 30, he is performing well in English county cricket and is among the top players in Division 2. He currently plays for Middlesex and continues to show his skill and potential.

In a recent interview with international media, Gohar spoke about how close he came to playing for Pakistan. In 2015, he was called up to the Test squad as a replacement for Yasir Shah. However, after an unexpected situation, he missed his flight.

“I waited until late at night for travel details, then was told to rest. I could not wake up in time. The next morning, they blamed everything on me. I was devastated,” Gohar said about the incident.

He later played an ODI in 2015 and a Test match in 2021, but he was unable to secure a regular place in the team. Despite performing well in county cricket, taking 47 wickets and scoring 500 runs for Gloucestershire in 2022, the Pakistan Cricket Board did not consider him again.

After years of waiting, Gohar made a major decision. Since he holds a British passport and has not played for Pakistan in the past three years, he is eligible to represent England. Now, with Middlesex, he has already taken 15 wickets in the 2025 County Championship season.

“I think I have just reached my prime, and I feel ready to take on this new challenge,” said Gohar. “I had heard England was the toughest place for spinners to get wickets, but I got wickets. That was the point I decided, right, I am going to take my chance. I know it is a big, big ask to get picked for England, but I love challenges.”

Gohar is also a skilled batter, which adds to his value as a player. If he goes on to play for England, he will join the list of cricketers who have represented more than one country. Eoin Morgan made the switch from Ireland to England, while Ed Joyce and Gary Ballance played for other countries after beginning their careers with England.

  • Alizeh Shah calls out ‘Parchi Culture’, and slams fake professionalism in showbiz

Alizeh Shah calls out ‘Parchi Culture’, and slams fake professionalism in showbiz

Actress Alizeh Shah has spoken out against unethical practices in the entertainment industry via her Instagram Stories.

Best known for her breakout role in Ehd-e-Wafa, Alizeh has frequently made headlines, whether for her fashion choices or candid opinions. Recently, she wiped all her Instagram posts and announced a break from the platform.

She has since returned to Instagram, and without naming anyone, she criticised the “parchi culture”, a system where individuals land roles through connections rather than talent. She wrote: “parchi srf Pakistan takh hi chalti hai inki…”

Alizeh also shed light on what she called fake professionalism: “Oh, the perks of being ‘professional’ in this industry… dinners without projects and of course, the sacred closed-door rituals. Say no, and suddenly you’re battameez, difficult, and ‘not serious about your career.’”

She made it clear that she was proud of her journey and refused to compromise her dignity: “Thank God I missed the memo on selling self-respect as part of the PR package.”

“If that’s the price of being a celebrity, I’m more than happy staying just human.”

Alizeh criticised how those who refused to participate in these “ugly games” were often labelled as unprofessional or ill-mannered. Her bold statements reignited public debate around merit, ethics, and fairness in Pakistan’s entertainment industry. While many fans praised her honesty, others questioned her motives and the timing of her remarks.

Earlier, Alizeh Shah had revealed that constant trolling and criticism had severely affected both her emotional and physical well-being. She said the pressure became so overwhelming that she felt the need to distance herself from social media and from the people around her.

In a detailed Instagram Story, she shared: “The trolling, the constant criticism, the negativity it didn’t just hurt me emotionally. It’s now affecting my physical health. It reached a point where I had no choice but to isolate myself completely not just from social media, but from everyone around me. I feel broken, exhausted, and overwhelmed in ways I can’t even explain.”

Following this emotional breakdown, the actress unfollowed everyone on Instagram and deleted all her posts, leaving behind only two highlights: one about Gaza and the other clarifying that she was not on Snapchat.

She further wrote, “Even after updating my bio and clearly saying I’m alive, some people still chose to spread rumors. News channels contacted my parents, asking if I’m dead. Imagine what that does to a family, to a mother’s heart. Please, understand how much this has hurt me and the people I love.”

Alizeh also expressed doubt about her future in the public eye, “Right now, I genuinely don’t know when or if I’ll ever return to Instagram or TV dramas. The pressure became too much. The weight of it has made me physically sick.”

She ended her message with a request, “All I ask is for some space… Please stop contacting my family. Please stop making up stories. Please just let me breathe.”

Over the years, Alizeh has often been targeted online for her personal choices—whether it was smoking in her car, cutting her hair short, setting boundaries at work, or wearing a tank top.

More recently, she was involved in a public disagreement with actor Zarnish Khan. In an interview on Voice Over Man, Zarnish remarked that Alizeh would win a competition for being “rude”.

Although Zarnish later apologised, Alizeh responded by posting a screenshot of their chat and replied: “It won’t fix the damage you did. I do not forgive you.”

Alizeh also claimed that her mother had contacted Zarnish to ask about the remarks, and that Zarnish had promised to explain everything in a video. However, according to Alizeh, Zarnish later blocked her mother’s number.

  • Four Pakistani mountaineers reach Nepal to conquer Everest, Dhaulagiri and Kangchenjunga

Four Pakistani mountaineers reach Nepal to conquer Everest, Dhaulagiri and Kangchenjunga

Four renowned Pakistani mountaineers have set out to scale some of the world’s highest and most dangerous peaks in Nepal, including Mount Everest, Dhaulagiri, and Kangchenjunga.

The expedition is being led by Sajid Ali Sadpara, son of the legendary late mountaineer Muhammad Ali Sadpara. His aim is to summit Dhaulagiri (8,167 metres), the seventh-highest mountain in the world. He reached base camp on April 6 and completed his acclimatisation by May 3. He is now waiting for favourable weather around May 9 to begin his summit push.

Remarkably, Sajid is undertaking this climb in alpine style, without the use of supplemental oxygen or high-altitude porters. He has already successfully summited K2, Nanga Parbat, Broad Peak, and both Gasherbrum I and II.

Also making headlines is Pakistani female mountaineer Naila Kiani, who has begun her journey to conquer Kangchenjunga (8,586 metres), the world’s third-highest peak. Kiani has already climbed 11 of the world’s 14 highest mountains and is the only Pakistani woman to have done so.

She is joined by fellow mountaineer Sirbaz Khan on the Kangchenjunga mission. Sirbaz recently summited Annapurna (8,091 metres) without supplemental oxygen on April 7. Kangchenjunga is the last remaining peak for him to become the first Pakistani to climb all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre peaks.

Meanwhile, another Pakistani climber from Gilgit-Baltistan, Wajidullah Nagri, has reached the base camp of Mount Everest. Nagri has previously climbed five of Pakistan’s highest peaks, including K2 and Nanga Parbat.
