Pahalgam attack: Indian government breaks silence, admits security lapse

In a rare admission, the Indian government has acknowledged a serious security lapse in the recent Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives, including those of tourists.

During a closed-door all-parties meeting, a senior leader from the ruling party reportedly told opposition members, “If everything was fine, why would we be sitting here? Clearly, mistakes were made, and we need to figure out where things went wrong.”

This crucial meeting was called to brief opposition leaders following the tragic attack in Pahalgam. According to India Today, the discussion quickly turned to heated questions about the lack of security.

Opposition leaders demanded answers: “Where were the security forces? Where was the CRPF?”

Sources revealed that the government admitted local authorities had failed to alert security agencies before opening the Baisaran area in Anantnag district, a region that remains closed until the start of the Amarnath Yatra in June.

This lapse in coordination, critics say, may have paved the way for the deadly attack.

‘Selective humanity’? Mishi Khan calls out Pakistani stars for condemning Pahalgam, ‘overlooking’ Pakistan

Pakistani stars, including Fawad Khan and Hania Aamir, have shared emotional messages in response to the attack in Pahalgam in Indian-occupied Kashmir, but veteran actress Mishi Khan is not impressed. In an Instagram video, she expressed her views on what she perceives as selective empathy and a lack of national pride.

“It’s commendable to advocate for humanity when lives are lost. But when tragedies occur in Pakistan, our celebrities choose to remain silent. Suddenly, when something impacts India, Fawad Khan and Hania Aamir experience the pain?” she said.

She continued to question why local celebrities remain quiet on issues like Palestine or the ongoing violence in Pakistan. “You have never acknowledged Palestine. You haven’t shared about the atrocities happening in your own nation. Yet, when it comes to India, you are quick to express sorrow?”

Highlighting Indian media figures like Arnab Goswami and Gaurav Arya, who often mock Pakistan on air, she remarked: “Do you have any self-respect? Those individuals belittle Pakistanis every day, and yet you extend them love and tears?”

In Mishi’s view, this isn’t about “humanity” but it’s unidirectional appeasement. “You all continuously advocate for love and peace. But love should be mutual. This one-sided admiration isn’t humanity, it’s disgraceful.” She ended with a reminder: “We are an atomic power too. Why can’t we declare that we won’t engage with them? At some point, you must advocate for your own nation.”

Her video triggered significant reactions on social media, with numerous users supporting her viewpoint. Comments poured in: “She’s entirely correct.” “They’re just seeking attention from Bollywood.”

While some critiqued her tone as severe, others commended her for vocalising what many would not. Her video didn’t simply call out celebrities, it raised a broader question: When will we cease to be silent about our own suffering?

  • Virender Sehwag on Ishan Kishan dismissal in IPL

Virender Sehwag on Ishan Kishan dismissal in IPL

Former Indian batter Virender Sehwag has criticised Ishan Kishan for walking off the field despite not being given out during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s match against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Sehwag called Kishan’s decision a clear case of “brain fade” and questioned why he didn’t wait for the umpire’s call.

The incident occurred in the third over of SRH’s innings when Kishan attempted a shot on the leg side but failed to make proper contact. Ryan Rickelton collected the ball behind the stumps. Despite no appeal from the fielders and no visible edge, Kishan surprisingly walked off on his own. Replays later confirmed there was no contact with the bat.

Speaking to a cricket website, Sehwag said, “Many times, the mind stops working in such moments. It was a brain fade. He should have waited. The umpire is also being paid for his job, let him do it.”

He added, “If there had been a clear edge, it would have made sense in the spirit of the game. But here, even the umpire wasn’t sure, and Kishan walked off all of a sudden. I couldn’t understand this kind of honesty.”

Mumbai Indians made the most of the situation and went on to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets, handing them their sixth loss of the season. Chasing a target of 144, MI got off to a solid start, with Rohit Sharma scoring 70 off 46 balls. He was well supported by Suryakumar Yadav, who remained unbeaten on 40. The duo shared a 53-run stand as Mumbai finished the chase in just 15.4 overs.

Earlier, MI’s bowlers delivered a clinical performance. Deepak Chahar (2/12) and Trent Boult (4/26) tore through SRH’s top order, reducing them to a shocking 13 for 4 in the fifth over. Heinrich Klaasen’s fighting knock of 71 off 44 balls and his 99-run partnership with Abhinav Manohar (43 off 37) helped SRH recover to post 143 for 8.

With this win, Mumbai Indians registered their fourth consecutive victory, while Sunrisers Hyderabad continued to struggle for momentum in the tournament.

  • Indian broadcasters covering PSL told to leave Pakistan

Indian broadcasters covering PSL told to leave Pakistan

The Pakistan government has directed all Indian nationals working in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 broadcast team to leave the country within 48 hours.

This decision comes after a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on 22 April, which killed 26 tourists. The attack has increased tensions between India and Pakistan.

More than 24 Indian crew members are affected by this order. These include engineers, camera operators, production leaders, and specialists in player tracking. They played an important role in the live coverage of PSL 2025.

Now, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Trans-Asia, the broadcasting company, are in a rush to find replacement staff to keep the broadcasts running smoothly.

The PCB reportedly made efforts to convince the government, stating that the Indian crew had valid sports visas and should be allowed to stay. However, the government stood by its decision after a meeting of the National Security Council, citing security and diplomatic concerns.

On the other hand, India has responded by banning the live streaming of PSL 2025 across the country. So far, no new streaming partner has been announced, leaving Indian fans without an official way to watch the rest of the tournament.

Tensions are growing on both sides. India has also suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and closed the Attari border crossing. Meanwhile, Pakistan has cancelled all visas for Indian citizens.

Some of the Indian crew in Pakistan, including 12 people who are UAE residents, are now stuck. They’ve been told not to move around too much and to leave the country as soon as possible.

The ongoing PSL 2025 is being held in four cities, and this sudden exit of experienced Indian staff is causing major challenges for the PCB as they try to maintain the quality of the tournament’s broadcast.

  • Neeraj Chopra breaks silence after Arshad Nadeem declines invite to India

Neeraj Chopra breaks silence after Arshad Nadeem declines invite to India

India’s Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has expressed his strong sentiments after coming under fire for inviting Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem to take part in the first-ever Neeraj Chopra Classic, scheduled for 24 May in Bengaluru.

Chopra, who typically prefers actions over words, shared a statement, noting, “When my devotion to my country and my family’s dignity are questioned, I cannot remain quiet.” He emphasised that his invitation to Arshad was solely a sign of sportsmanship — one athlete welcoming another to honour the competitive spirit.

“There has been an overwhelming amount of discussion about my choice,” Neeraj wrote, clarifying that the invitation was made days prior to the tragic terrorist incident in Pahalgam that shocked the nation.

In the meantime, reports have confirmed that Arshad Nadeem has graciously turned down Chopra’s invitation. Arshad expressed gratitude to Neeraj for the kind offer but explained that his busy training schedule and preparations for the Asian Athletics Championships, which commence on 27 May in South Korea, made it unfeasible for him to attend.

However, as the situation escalated between the two countries, Neeraj said things turned ugly. Hate messages flooded in. Trolls didn’t just stop at him, but targeted his family as well. “They haven’t even left my mother out of it,” he wrote, visibly pained.

What appears to have affected him the most isn’t the cancellation of the event, it’s being labelled as anti-state. “For years, I have carried my country with pride,” he expressed. “It pains me to see my character questioned. Just because I’m not vocal doesn’t imply I don’t have feelings.”

He also criticised the rapid shifts in public sentiment, recalling how his mother made a harmless comment that was once celebrated but is now being manipulated against her.

Neeraj concluded with a strong vow: to exert more effort than ever so that the world remembers India for positive reasons. “We are simple people,” he stated. “Don’t misrepresent us.”

  • Jalen Green’s Stellar Performance Powers Rockets to 109-94 Win, Tying Series with Warriors

Jalen Green’s Stellar Performance Powers Rockets to 109-94 Win, Tying Series with Warriors

The Houston Rockets bounced back in Game 2 of their first-round series against the Golden State Warriors with a resounding 109-94 victory, thanks to a spectacular 38-point performance from Jalen Green. The win not only tied the series at 1-1 but also showcased Green’s potential to be a game-changer on the playoff stage. The Rockets were dominant throughout the game, never trailing and maintaining a solid lead throughout the contest. Green’s performance was a key factor in their success, and it was clear that the Warriors struggled to stop the explosive guard.

A Strong Start for the Rockets

From the opening tip, it was clear that the Houston Rockets were determined to level the series after losing a tough Game 1. The second-seeded Rockets came out aggressive, and their defensive intensity set the tone for the rest of the game. They were able to neutralize the Warriors’ offense early, and despite a few bursts of energy from Golden State, the Rockets never relinquished the lead.

One of the main reasons for Houston’s success was their ability to capitalize on their three-point shooting. They finished the game 15-for-40 from beyond the arc (37.5 percent), with Jalen Green accounting for a significant portion of that total. Green shot an impressive 8-for-18 from three-point range, and his ability to stretch the floor created opportunities for his teammates as well. While Green was the star of the night, his teammates also played vital roles in supporting him, contributing to the team’s overall success.

    Jalen Green’s Performance: A Game-Changing Night

Jalen Green was undoubtedly the player of the game. He finished with 38 points, leading all scorers, and made a significant impact on the outcome with his shooting. Green’s long-range shooting was especially important, as he hit crucial three-pointers throughout the game to keep the Warriors at bay.

In the third quarter, with the Golden State Warriors looking to mount a comeback, Green took over the game. He scored 15 points in the period, knocking down three of his three-pointers and helping the Rockets respond to every rally attempt from the Warriors. His ability to create his own shot and hit from deep made him nearly impossible to defend. It was during this stretch that Green’s impact was most evident, as he effectively silenced any Warriors’ run and helped extend Houston’s lead.

“What I’m trying to do is just play my game and be aggressive when I have the ball,” Green said after the game. “My teammates did a great job of finding me in the right spots, and I just took the shots that were there.”

    Warriors’ Struggles and Injuries

On the other side, the Golden State Warriors found themselves struggling throughout the game. The seventh-seeded Warriors were simply unable to keep pace with the Rockets, and their shooting was off throughout much of the contest. They shot just 39.5 percent from the field, and their three-point shooting was particularly inefficient, hitting only 8 of 28 attempts (28.6 percent). The Rockets’ defense, led by Green’s perimeter defense and physicality, disrupted Golden State’s rhythm, and the Warriors found it difficult to create open shots.

Adding to the Warriors’ woes was the loss of Jimmy Butler III, who went down with a pelvic contusion late in the first quarter. Butler, who was one of the Warriors’ key contributors in the series, was unable to return to the game, and his absence left a noticeable hole in the team’s lineup. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr remained hopeful that Butler would be fine but confirmed that he would undergo an MRI. Losing Butler was a blow for Golden State, as his defense and leadership were crucial to their success in this matchup.

Rockets’ Defensive Effort and Team Play

In addition to Green’s outstanding performance, the Houston Rockets’ defense played a major role in their victory. They were aggressive on defense, constantly pressuring the Warriors and forcing difficult shots. The Rockets’ defense helped prevent Golden State from getting into an offensive rhythm, and they limited the Warriors to just 94 points in the game. Houston’s defensive efforts were particularly strong on the perimeter, as they were able to contest most of the Warriors’ three-point attempts.

Houston’s teamwork was another key factor in their win. The Rockets played unselfishly, moving the ball and finding the open man. Alperen Şengün, Jabari Smith Jr., and Kevin Porter Jr. each made valuable contributions, with Şengün adding 12 points and 7 rebounds, while Porter Jr. chipped in with 10 points and 6 assists. The team’s collective effort made it difficult for the Warriors to focus on any one player, and it was clear that the Rockets were playing their most complete game of the series.

    What’s Next for the Series?

With the series now tied 1-1, the Houston Rockets head to Golden State for Game 3 with the momentum on their side. Jalen Green’s stellar performance has given the Rockets newfound confidence, and they will look to continue their strong play in the next game. The Warriors, meanwhile, will need to regroup and make adjustments, especially if Butler’s injury keeps him sidelined for an extended period. The series is far from over, and with both teams showcasing their strengths and weaknesses, the next few games will be crucial in determining who will advance to the next round of the playoffs. For more news and updates, including an insightful look at a new art project, check out Grief to Gallery: The Woman Behind the £51K Malala Portrait.

  • Ukraine War Update: Zelenskyy Reposts 2018 US Statement on Crimea Amid Ongoing Tensions and Strikes

Ukraine War Update: Zelenskyy Reposts 2018 US Statement on Crimea Amid Ongoing Tensions and Strikes

As the war in Ukraine approaches its 1,156th day, the conflict continues to escalate, with casualties mounting in Ukrainian cities and international peace talks failing to yield immediate results. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has once again reiterated Ukraine’s firm stance on Crimea, posting a statement from the US government from 2018 that rejects Russia’s annexation of the region. Meanwhile, heavy missile strikes on Kyiv and Kharkiv have left at least 21 people injured, adding to the ongoing casualties.

Zelenskyy Reposts US 2018 Crimea Declaration

On April 23, 2025, President Zelenskyy reposted a powerful statement from 2018 by former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The statement underscores the United States’ rejection of Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea, a region that Ukraine continues to claim as part of its territory. “The United States rejects Russia’s attempted annexation of Crimea and pledges to maintain this policy until Ukraine’s territorial integrity is restored,” Pompeo had said. Zelenskyy’s decision to share this declaration comes amid rising tensions with former US President Donald Trump, who now appears to be suggesting that the US might formally recognize Russia’s control over Crimea as part of a peace agreement. Trump’s comments, which contradict long-standing international policies, have caused concern among Ukrainian officials, especially as Zelenskyy remains steadfast in his refusal to compromise on Crimea.

Tensions Over Peace Talks and Trump’s Influence

While the London peace talks were expected to bring progress, tensions remain high, particularly due to differing perspectives on the future of Crimea. Trump, who is currently running for president again, has criticized Zelenskyy for dwelling on Crimea during the discussions. He claimed that such focus was hindering peace talks, implying that Crimea should not be a sticking point. Despite Trump’s stance, Zelenskyy has made it clear that Ukraine will not accept any deal that involves compromising on its sovereignty over Crimea. The Ukrainian president stressed the importance of maintaining territorial integrity, pointing out that peace can only be achieved if Crimea is returned to Ukraine. Zelenskyy also pointed to the importance of working collaboratively with other European countries to reach a lasting peace.

Missiles Hit Kyiv and Kharkiv: Casualties Reported

While political leaders argue over the future of Crimea, the human cost of the war continues to rise. On Thursday, April 24, 2025, Russian missiles struck Kyiv and Kharkiv, injuring at least 21 people, including a three-year-old child. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that multiple districts in the capital had been affected, with reports of significant damage to buildings and infrastructure. The attack on Kyiv comes after a series of similar strikes targeting the city in recent weeks. The Ukrainian air force confirmed that Russian bombers had launched missiles from deep within Russian territory, further escalating the ongoing conflict.

Shahed Factory in Tatarstan Hit by Ukrainian Strike

The conflict continues to evolve in both Ukraine and Russia, with Ukraine making strategic moves against Russian infrastructure. On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Ukrainian military officials reported a successful strike on a Russian long-range drone production site in Tatarstan. This plant was known to produce the Shahed drones extensively used by Russia in its strikes across Ukraine. According to Ukraine’s General Staff, the airstrike damaged the final assembly line, which had the capacity to produce up to 300 drones per day. This strike is seen as a significant blow to Russia’s ability to continue its drone operations and may have far-reaching consequences on the ongoing conflict. The Ukrainian military’s successful targeting of the Shahed factory represents a key tactic in its efforts to weaken Russia’s military capabilities, particularly in light of the increasing use of drones in the war. However, the toll on Ukrainian civilians remains high, with the conflict showing no signs of abating anytime soon.

    Ukrainian Drone Strikes Continue

Meanwhile, on April 23, 2025, Ukraine’s military reported a deadly attack in the city of Marhanets, where a Russian drone struck a bus carrying workers. Nine people were killed in the attack, adding to the rising death toll caused by drone strikes. Ukrainian authorities have reported that over 130 large drones have attacked Ukrainian cities over the past 48 hours, showing the extent to which Russia is relying on drones as a weapon of choice in the war. The continuing use of drones highlights the asymmetric nature of the conflict, with both sides utilizing unconventional tactics to gain an advantage. While drone strikes may be less expensive and easier to deploy than traditional airstrikes, their impact on civilians and infrastructure has been devastating.

    Conclusion

The upcoming peace talks, coupled with pressure from international actors like Donald Trump, will likely influence the course of the war. However, as Zelenskyy remains steadfast in his demands for Crimea, it remains to be seen whether any meaningful diplomatic breakthroughs will occur. • You Season 5 Review: Joe Goldberg’s Final Chapter is a Gripping, Slow-Burning Journey to Redemption

You Season 5 Review: Joe Goldberg’s Final Chapter is a Gripping, Slow-Burning Journey to Redemption

After five intense seasons, You Season 5 finally wraps up the story of Joe Goldberg, a man whose obsession with love and control has shaped his twisted journey. As the show continues to evolve, the latest season takes us deeper into Joe’s psyche, showing us how he comes to terms with his own identity and the manipulations he’s used to get what he wants. But while the season starts slowly, it ultimately delivers a compelling exploration of Joe’s transformation, making it an engaging finale for his character arc.

You Season 5 picks up three years after the events of Season 4, with Joe having assumed his true identity and settled into a cushy life with Kate Lockwood, who is now his wife. Joe is still haunted by his past, but his relationship with Kate provides him a semblance of normalcy. However, as Kate’s troubled past catches up with her, Joe’s murderous tendencies start to surface once again, leading to a new chapter in his downward spiral.

A Slow Start, but Rewarding Build-Up

One of the central new characters in You Season 5 is Bronte, a budding writer who shares Joe’s passion for books. As expected, she becomes the next object of Joe’s obsession. However, this season isn’t just about Joe’s relentless pursuit of his next victim; it’s also about his increasing delusion that his murderous actions are justified. He starts to embrace the idea that being a killer is not just something he does out of necessity but something that is intrinsic to who he is.

Joe and Kate’s Relationship: A Complicated Dynamic

Joe’s relationship with Kate Lockwood is at the heart of You Season 5, and it is as complicated as ever. At the start of the season, Kate is just as much a protector of Joe as he is of her. Kate, a powerful CEO, has scrubbed Joe’s violent past, creating a clean slate for them both to build their future. However, as Kate’s uncle threatens to expose her own secrets, her world begins to unravel, and she activates Joe in ways that set off a chain of events that lead to his ultimate reckoning.

The tension between Joe and Kate is palpable throughout the season. While Kate is initially drawn to Joe’s charm, she begins to question her involvement with him as his true nature resurfaces. Joe, on the other hand, leans into his darker side, willing to do whatever it takes to keep Kate by his side. Theirs is a tragic dynamic, and it highlights the broader theme of You Season 5: how even those who seem to have their lives together can fall prey to toxic relationships and manipulation.

The Women Who Have Been Affected by Joe’s Actions

Another key aspect of You Season 5 is its focus on the women who have been victims of Joe’s manipulations. Throughout the series, Joe has left a trail of women who have either died or been emotionally and mentally harmed by his obsession with them. Season 5 doesn’t shy away from acknowledging the damage Joe has caused, and it offers a sense of closure for some of these characters.

A Final Season That Delivers a Satisfying Conclusion

While You Season 5 takes a while to build momentum, it eventually delivers a satisfying conclusion to Joe Goldberg’s story. As we watch him spiral further into his delusions, we are forced to confront the consequences of his actions. The final episodes take us through the emotional and psychological reckoning that Joe has been avoiding throughout the series, culminating in a final showdown that feels inevitable yet earned.

The season’s final moments bring Joe face to face with the truth about himself. He has always been someone who justifies his actions by blaming others, but now he is forced to confront the full extent of his manipulations. It’s a gut-wrenching moment for Joe, and for viewers, it offers a sense of closure that the series has been building toward since the beginning.

Joe’s Transformation: From Charismatic Villain to Pitiful Figure

One of the most notable aspects of You Season 5 is the transformation of Joe Goldberg from a charismatic, manipulative figure into a more pitiful and desperate character. As the season progresses, Joe loses the charm that once made him so captivating. His actions become sloppier, and his ability to manipulate others diminishes. Penn Badgley plays this shift masterfully, capturing the complexity of a man who has lost his grip on reality and is finally beginning to realize the extent of his own depravity.

While Joe’s character arc is central to the story, You Season 5 also delves into the psychological manipulation that many of the women fall victim to. The season offers a sharp commentary on how men like Joe can prey on vulnerable individuals, even those who seem strong and independent. It’s a chilling exploration of the cycles of abuse and the lengths to which people will go to justify their toxic behavior.

    Conclusion

In the end, You Season 5 wraps up Joe Goldberg’s story with a combination of reflection, tension, and emotional payoff. The season is not without its flaws, but it delivers a compelling conclusion that ties up the loose ends of Joe’s narrative while leaving viewers with much to think about. As we watch Joe confront his own darkness, we also witness the empowerment of those who were once under his control. It’s a fitting, if unsettling, conclusion to a series that has always questioned the line between love and obsession. For more insights on real-life controversies and stories of power dynamics, check out the latest on Maria B’s influencer payment scandal: I Kept Mum to Protect My Own: Maria B Breaks Silence on Influencer Payment Controversy.

What If You Don’t Receive the Payment?

If you believe you’re eligible for the £250 payment but have not received it by 22 May 2025, don’t panic. There are steps you can take:
