Shaik Rasheed is a name that cricket fans have been eagerly waiting to see in action. Born in Andhra Pradesh, this 20-year-old batter has been making waves in the cricketing world since his outstanding performance in the 2022 Under-19 World Cup. Now, he’s ready to make his IPL debut with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), a franchise led by the legendary MS Dhoni. Let’s dive into the story of this young talent and what we can expect from him in the 2025 Indian Premier League season.

A Rising Star in Indian Cricket

Shaik Rasheed’s journey to the IPL has been nothing short of inspiring. His cricketing career took a significant leap when he was part of the Indian U19 team that won the 2022 ICC U19 World Cup. Rasheed was a standout performer in the tournament, showcasing his skill and composure under pressure. In the final against England, Rasheed played a crucial knock, scoring a vital fifty to help India lift the prestigious trophy. His brilliance continued in the semi-final, where he smashed an incredible 94 runs against Australia.

His performances in the U19 World Cup did not go unnoticed. Rasheed’s impressive displays earned him a debut for Andhra Pradesh across all formats. In domestic cricket, he has continued to make his mark. With 1204 runs from 19 first-class appearances at an average of 37.42, he has established himself as a reliable middle-order batter. His standout performance in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, where he scored 627 runs, including a double century against Hyderabad, further solidified his reputation as a future star.

Shaik Rasheed Joins Chennai Super Kings

In 2023, Shaik Rasheed entered the IPL by joining Chennai Super Kings for a base price of INR 20 lakh. However, he wasn’t part of the playing XI during the 2023 season as CSK went on to win the IPL trophy. Despite warming the bench, CSK recognized Rasheed’s immense potential and decided to retain him for the 2024 season. In 2025, Rasheed’s price was bumped up to INR 30 lakh, indicating that CSK sees him as a future asset for the team.

IPL Debut: Shaik Rasheed Takes His First Step on the Big Stage

After being kept on the sidelines for a while, Shaik Rasheed is finally set to make his IPL debut in 2025. This debut is crucial for the Chennai Super Kings, who have been struggling with their batting lineup. Rasheed will be stepping in to fill the void left by Devon Conway, the New Zealand opener, for CSK’s upcoming match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Conway’s absence has led to several changes in CSK’s batting lineup, and Rasheed’s inclusion is a part of the team’s strategy to boost their chances in the ongoing IPL season.

The match against LSG will be a test for the young batter, but with the guidance of MS Dhoni, one of the best captains in world cricket, Shaik Rasheed will have a golden opportunity to prove himself. Dhoni, who has mentored numerous young talents in the IPL, will undoubtedly provide valuable advice to Rasheed, helping him adjust to the high-pressure environment of T20 cricket.

Shaik Rasheed’s Domestic Performances: A Glimpse of What’s to Come

Rasheed’s consistent performances in domestic cricket have shown that he is more than capable of handling the pressure of professional cricket. In addition to his stellar performances in first-class cricket, where he has scored over 600 runs in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, he has also made a mark in T20 cricket. With 352 runs in 13 T20 matches, including an unbeaten 100, Rasheed has proven his ability to adapt to the shorter format of the game.

These performances and his experience in high-stakes tournaments like the U19 World Cup make Rasheed a promising addition to CSK’s squad. Fans will be excited to see how he handles the challenges of the IPL, a tournament known for its intense competition and spotlight.

The Road Ahead: What to Expect from Shaik Rasheed in the IPL

Shaik Rasheed’s debut in the IPL is not just about playing his first match; it marks the beginning of what could be a long and successful career in the tournament. With his solid technique, adaptability, and mental toughness, Rasheed has the potential to become a regular feature in CSK’s lineup. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, who has a reputation for nurturing young talent, Rasheed can expect to grow further as a cricketer.

As CSK looks to turn around its fortunes in the 2025 season after a rough start, Rasheed’s inclusion in the playing XI could be the spark the team needs. Fans will eagerly watch how he fares in his debut match and whether he can help CSK get back on track after losing five consecutive games.

Shaik Rasheed’s IPL debut is one of the most anticipated moments in the 2025 season. From his stellar performances in the U19 World Cup to his consistent domestic record, Rasheed has proven that he can play at the highest level. • Aurangzeb heads to IMF, WB talks amid US tariffs concerns

Aurangzeb heads to IMF, WB talks amid US tariffs concerns

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is set to participate in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank’s (WB) 2025 spring meetings held in Washington, United States (US). As per credible reports, Aurangzeb’s visit may also help address concerns surrounding Donald Trump’s 29 percent reciprocal tariffs against Pakistan.

Reports seem to back Pakistan’s intention to discuss the US’s trade restrictions with the Trump administration. While the trade war escalates between the US and China, Pakistan seeks to resolve the issue amicably.

A list of 75 countries, including Pakistan, have decided to respond to US tariffs by engaging in negotiations. Muhammad Aurangzeb is slated to hold meetings with key financial institutions to go over the impact of the devastating tariffs on Pakistan’s economy.

The IMF and WB are expected to provide Pakistan with a framework to deal with the tariffs, as both international lenders play a pivotal role in forming Pakistan’s macroeconomic policies. Islamabad often has to look towards the IMF for their nod before making any major changes.

A recent report conducted by the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) revealed that US tariffs could result in Pakistan experiencing a foreign exchange inflow reduction of approximately $1.4 billion.  Moreover, a spike in the domestic unemployment rate is possible as PIDE projects that half a million workers could be fired.

Reports indicate that a slew of central bankers, experts and finance ministers will also take part in the Spring Meetings. While the tariffs remain suspended for 90 days, it would be beneficial for Pakistan to engage with the aforementioned international players and gain trading partners in case the US decides to resume tariffs again.

Diversification in Pakistan’s export destinations is vital, given that its largest single-country export destination is the US. This could help insulate Pakistan’s cash-strapped economy from international adverse shocks.

However, many believe that it may not be feasible to find trade partners who would be able to plug the gap in exports left by the US. Earlier, analysts speculated that a high-profile delegation from Pakistan could visit Washington after the Spring Meetings conclude to normalize trade relations between both countries.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s office has now established that a delegation is slated to visit Washington DC with Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan at the helm. Some believe that if Pakistan decreases the tariffs it levies on US imports, the Trump administration could reduce its rate on Pakistan.

Shoaib Akhtar wants new PSL franchise named ‘Pindi Express’

Former Test cricketer and the world’s fastest bowler Shoaib Akhtar has called for a new franchise to be added to the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

During a recent appearance on the show Dugout, Akhtar responded to a fan’s interesting question: “If you were to play in the PSL, which franchise would you represent?”

Shoaib Akhtar replied, “I wouldn’t play for any franchise — I would make my own team, filled mostly with fast bowlers.”

He went on to say, “A new PSL franchise named ‘Pindi Express’ should be introduced.”

Akhtar explained that the team would focus on promoting top-quality fast bowlers.

“The cricket culture of this franchise would be about finding high-quality pacers. PSL should be recognized through its fast bowlers,” he said.

He added, “This city has produced great talent in a short time, and I believe it deserves to have its own team.”

Shoaib Akhtar has not played for any PSL team, as he had already retired from international cricket after the 2011 World Cup.

Did US delegation talk to govt about Imran? Ayaz Sadiq has the details

Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has shared details of his recent meeting with a three-member US Congressional delegation. The delegation arrived on Saturday on a weeklong visit to Pakistan.

Speaking to media in Islamabad today (Tuesday), Ayaz Sadiq, in response to a question asking whether the US delegation talked about meeting the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, said that the US delegation “did not even mention Imran Khan.”

“I can say with full confidence that as they [US delegation] were leaving, they categorically stated they have no connection to Pakistan’s internal politics,” the speaker of the National Assembly claimed.

Ayaz Sadiq further said that he had invited PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and Malik Mohammad Amir Dogar to a dinner during the meeting with the US delegation, emphasising that it was an opportunity for PTI leaders to sit and talk with the Americans “from whom they seek help.”

Additionally, Ayaz Sadiq stated that no one can be forced to sit and talk about issues [between political parties]. “I had called Akhtar Mengal (Chief Balochistan National Party-Mengal)…. and was also in contact with Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s party (JUI-F),” he added.

Moreover, Ayaz Sadiq said that Turkiye has organized a conference on the ongoing situation in Gaza, where a few speakers have been invited. “I will attend the Gaza conference and present Pakistan’s stance,” he added.

He concluded by saying that as Pakistan speaks up for Kashmir, it is also raising its voice for Palestine, lamenting that children and women are being martyred in Palestine, and the Muslim Ummah has not played the role it should have.

  • Dr. Omer Adil sends ceiling fans to jail after incarceration stint

Dr. Omer Adil sends ceiling fans to jail after incarceration stint

Renowned surgeon Dr. Omer Adil has won hearts both inside and outside Lahore’s Camp Jail—thanks to a cool gesture during a very hot month.

In a Facebook post that quickly caught public attention, Dr. Omer shared a photo with a police officer, writing,“Donated 50 ceiling fans to Camp jail Lahore to provide relief to the inmates in the sweltering summer months ahead. This has been made possible due to Professor Shaheena Asif Choudhary and Nazia Imtiaz. May Allah bless them.”

While the act of kindness was clearly appreciated, social media users couldn’t help but sprinkle the comment section with a mix of praise, jokes, and… a little advice.

“These fans should be installed under your supervision, otherwise they may end up somewhere else,” one user warned, half-serious, half-joking.

Another added, “Very nice initiative—but keep an eye on it to make sure they’re used for the inmates!!!”
Others couldn’t resist wordplay, “I’m now your big fan hazoor-e-wala!”

    “You’re great, Dr. Sb. MashaAllah!”

Dr. Omer’s simple yet thoughtful contribution comes at a time when heatwaves are already putting vulnerable people—especially prisoners—at risk. His initiative, supported by Professor Shaheena and Nazia Imtiaz, highlights how small actions can bring big relief when temperatures rise.

He decided to donate the fans after personally experiencing the harsh conditions inside Camp Jail in 2024. That experience made him realise how difficult summers can be for inmates, and he wanted to offer some comfort to those still inside.

Dr Omer was sent to jail last year after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested him in a cybercrime case. Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari had filed a complaint against him for using inappropriate and offensive language in a YouTube show titled “Ganda Aandaa.”

Another journalist, Ghareeda Farooqi, also filed a case against him. Initially, Dr Omer refused to apologise, but after his arrest and the legal proceedings, he eventually issued an unconditional apology. The court later granted him bail.

  • Gold prices drop to Rs 338,800 per tola

Gold prices drop to Rs 338,800 per tola

Gold prices took a tumble on Monday, momentarily ending the hot streak the precious metal was on. As per credible reports, an upward trend had been witnessed over several sessions, pushing the price of the commodity to a record high of Rs 340,600 per tola on Saturday.

However, gold was unofficially trading as high as Rs 345,000 per tola in the domestic market, as many believed that the commodity was poised to appreciate even more, given international geopolitical factors. With the US-China trade war escalating, gold’s status as a safe haven investment improved, causing the metal to summit new peaks.

Data from the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA) indicates that the value of one tola 24 karat gold now sits at Rs 338,800 after witnessing a fall of Rs 1800. The price of 10 grams 24 karat gold recorded a fall of Rs 1543, coming to rest at Rs 290,466.

Gold prices in the international market have fallen marginally as well. As of reporting, the price of gold across various trading platforms stood at approximately $3223.57 per troy ounce (including a premium of $20, recording a drop of $12.49). However, many believe that the price of gold could resume its climb if tensions build up between the US and China.

Analysts believe that market corrections are in effect now, pushing the value of gold downwards after the commodity peaked. Reports reveal that the price of the yellow metal rose unrestricted by approximately 10 percent in under a week.

While the price of the commodity sits comfortably above $3200 per troy ounce, analysts have reportedly suggested that it could ‘test further support zones’ as low as $3,050 per troy ounce.

However, the price of gold may not deviate substantially as trading activities in the international market are likely to witness a drop owing to market closures amid holidays for Easter weekend and Good Friday. Until markets resume trading activities, trading volumes are unlikely to post any remarkable jumps.

The drop in gold prices comes despite the rupee recording a depreciation against the greenback. A weaker rupee implies that the price of gold should rise.

However, international trends have proven to be more powerful, allowing for the price of gold to log a drop. Had the rupee held steady, gold prices would have recorded an even sharper fall.

  • ‘Sell your car, donate to Palestine’; Sher Afzal tells Mufti Taqi

‘Sell your car, donate to Palestine’; Sher Afzal tells Mufti Taqi

Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member Sher Afzal Marwat has advised renowned Islamic scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani to begin jihad from his own home, days after the scholar issued a fatwa calling for jihad against Israel in response to the ongoing atrocities in Gaza.

Speaking to reporters in Islamabad on Tuesday, Marwat said Mufti Taqi Usmani is obligated to initiate jihad personally. “He must sell his underused Mercedes to donate to Palestinians,” he added.

Earlier this week, during his address at the National Palestine Conference in Islamabad, Mufti Taqi declared that jihad for Gaza had become obligatory for Muslim states. He expressed disappointment over the lack of real support for Palestinian resistance fighters.

He criticised Muslim states for limiting their response to conferences and resolutions rather than taking concrete steps to defend the Al-Aqsa Mosque and assist Palestinian Mujahideen.

The former judge of the Federal Shariat Court condemned Israel’s actions during its devastating military onslaught in the Gaza Strip and supported a boycott of products to express solidarity with Palestine.

However, the scholar emphasised, “Islam is a religion of balance. It is not a religion of vandalising property or hurting someone by merely getting carried away by emotions.

“Therefore, pelting stones at someone or harming someone’s life and property is forbidden in Shariah. Do protest and boycott, but peacefully; there should be no element of unrest.”

Separately, footage of vandalism appeared online yesterday, showing a couple of individuals using abusive language and an intimidating tone while vandalising the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet located in the Saddar area of Rawalpindi.

Later, a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at the Cantt police station by the manager of the Saddar branch, under sections 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), and others of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the FIR, the incident took place on Sunday, March 13, at 8:30pm. The complainant stated that while he was working as the branch manager, he heard a commotion. Upon exiting his office, he saw 10–12 individuals armed with sticks and rods, abusing other patrons and families in the restaurant while shouting slogans.

“When we tried to stop them, they abused us and continued to threaten us with violence. I am filing a petition against them. Action should be taken,” the FIR reads.

  • Nadia Hussain denies involvement in husband’s Rs540 million bank fraud

Nadia Hussain denies involvement in husband’s Rs540 million bank fraud

Renowned actress and model Nadia Hussain told the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) that she had no knowledge of any fraud involving her husband, Atif Khan, who is currently in FIA custody.

According to ARY News, Nadia gave her statement during a two-hour session with the FIA. She said her husband gave her money to start and expand her salon and spa business, but she never questioned where the money came from.

“I was never part of any fraud,” Nadia said.

She explained that her business is registered with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and the money received from her husband was shown as a loan in her tax returns.

The FIA questioned Nadia about money transfers between her husband’s accounts and those of her salon. Investigators believe she received Rs26.4 million from her husband’s accounts, which was used to run her two salons. These transfers reportedly occurred 19 times since 2019.

The FIA claims Atif Khan misused Rs540 million from the company he worked for, causing a total loss of Rs1.2 billion. He allegedly passed off business losses to the bank and used over Rs110 million for personal expenses.

Nadia’s statement has been added to the case file, and she has been named a major beneficiary in the investigation.
