‘I walked out of Nadir Ali’s podcast’; Nadia Khan on podcaster’s inappropriate questions

TV host and actress Nadia Khan recalled walking out of a YouTuber’s podcast after being repeatedly asked inappropriate questions.

She recently appeared on 365 News’ Ramzan program, where she openly discussed various issues.

During the show, she advised actors to be cautious when attending podcasts, warning that hosts often try to “trap” guests with controversial questions to generate views.

Recalling her own experience, she said, “A YouTuber tried to trap me, but I took timely action.”

Without naming the host, she revealed that during her appearance on the podcast, she was repeatedly asked inappropriate questions, which led her to walk out.

“I left the podcast and refused to continue recording,” she shared, adding that the host later apologised.

“He assured me that he wouldn’t ask any more inappropriate questions, after which I resumed the recording,” she added.

Emphasising the importance of taking a stand, she urged fellow actors to do the same when faced with uncomfortable situations.

“The YouTuber only wanted views, but I wanted respect as an actress and to protect my career, so I made the right decision,” she asserted.

Nadia Khan did not name the podcast host, but when interviewer Zhalay Sarhadi asked, “Was it the same YouTuber who asked Sunita Marshall an inappropriate question?” she confirmed.

The YouTuber in question was Nader Ali, a well-known YouTuber and podcast host.

Nadia Khan appeared on Nader Ali’s podcast in February 2023.

‘Don’t be sorry’: Jonty Rhodes hails Glenn Phillips as best fielder

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 may have ended with India winning the tournament but New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips stole the spotlight with a sensational catch to dismiss Shubman Gill. As Gill attempted to loft the ball over the cover fielder, Phillips reacted instantly, plucking the ball out of thin air in a moment of sheer brilliance.

The jaw-dropping catch quickly went viral, sparking debates about Phillips’ exceptional fielding skills. A fan even hailed him as the best fielder of this generation, apologizing to legendary fielder Jonty Rhodes in the process.

“Sorry @JontyRhodes8, we believe Phillips is the best fielder of this generation,” a fan posted on X (formerly Twitter).

To everyone’s surprise, Rhodes himself agreed, responding: “Don’t be sorry, I agree.”

Phillips had also made a stunning catch earlier in the tournament, dismissing Virat Kohli in the final group-stage game and leaving the Indian star visibly stunned.

Despite New Zealand’s loss in the final, captain Mitchell Santner couldn’t help but admire Phillips’ fielding brilliance. “He keeps doing it, doesn’t he,” Santner mused with a smile.

Reflecting on the match, Santner credited India’s strong start, particularly Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill’s aggressive powerplay performance. “Rohit’s innings were outstanding; there was almost a run-a-ball on that wicket, and it put us on the back foot. But we knew the game could change quickly, so we kept fighting,” he said.

India and New Zealand have faced off multiple times in ICC events, with the Kiwis historically holding the upper hand. However, this time, it was Rohit Sharma’s team that claimed the ultimate victory.

  • Two arrested over gang-rape of Israeli tourist and local woman in India

Two arrested over gang-rape of Israeli tourist and local woman in India

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the gang-rape of two women including an Israeli tourist and the death of a man near a UNESCO World Heritage site in India, police said Sunday.

A group of two women and three men were attacked late Thursday near the Group of Monuments at Hampi, an ancient village in the south Indian state of Karnataka.

The case highlights the chronic issue of violence against women in the world’s most populous country, where an average of nearly 90 rapes a day were reported in 2022.

“The horrific assault and rape… is a deeply heinous crime,” the state’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah posted on X Saturday.

“The police have already arrested two accused and are continuing the investigation. We will take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents from recurring,” he added.

The group were attacked by individuals on a motorbike while stargazing on the banks of a canal in Koppal after refusing to give them money, according to local media reports.

The attackers threw the men, who were from India and the United States, into the canal before sexually assaulting both women.

One of the two men from India was confirmed dead after police recovered a body from the canal on Saturday.

Both women, an Israeli tourist and local homestay owner, were taken to hospital where they are receiving treatment.

Mallesh alias Handi Malla, 22, and Chetan Sai Sillekyatar, 21, were arrested on Saturday, The Times of India reported, while police are continuing to search for a third suspect.

“Out of the three accused, we have arrested two and efforts are being taken to nab the third suspect in the case,” Koppal police superintendent Ram L Arasiddi told NDTV news channel.

The local woman who was attacked said “that besides being beaten up, the two women were sexually assaulted by the accused,” Arasiddi added.

It comes only weeks after an Indian court sentenced the rapist and murderer of a 31-year-old doctor to life in prison.

That case sparked nationwide protests and widespread hospital strikes last year, with regional and national authorities promising strict and swift punishments in such cases.

The 2012 gang rape and murder of a young woman on a Delhi bus also sparked weeks of nationwide protests in India and led to a series of changes to swiftly prosecute such crimes.

England’s Harry Brook may face two-year ban after withdrawing from IPL 2025

England batter Harry Brook has withdrawn from the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 to focus on international cricket.

As per reports, the Pakistani Foreign Office has expressed surprise and dissatisfaction, emphasising that despite possessing all the required travel documents, the ambassador was deported from the airport.

  • CM Maryam orders strict enforcement of Rs37,000 minimum wage

CM Maryam orders strict enforcement of Rs37,000 minimum wage

In an attempt to regulate the labour market, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz has authorised officials to oversee the distribution of fair wages to workers.

According to reports, CM Maryam has instructed relevant authorities to ensure that the monthly minimum wage of Rs37,000 was not violated by businesses.

Owing to the weak enforcement of labour laws, it is not uncommon for businesses to pay their workers wages that are below the provincial minimum wage. However, while chairing a meeting pertaining to labour welfare, the provincial chief executive has outlined the difficulties minimum wage workers face.

In addition to a lack of nutrition faced by such workers, she cited that these difficulties grow to envelop unreasonable burdens that businesses place on their employees. For instance, individuals working for minimum wage are often placed in high workload environments — where time off from their tasks can result in financial strain on the business.

The CM has reaffirmed her support in the endeavour to alleviate hunger and combat the difficulties faced by workers. Moreover, she has assured that her government aims to improve the quality of life for the broader labour force via measures at the provincial level.

These measures include projects that will attempt to boost educational opportunities available to the children of minimum wage workers. Reports claim that children with exceptional academic performance are expected to be given additional support that could open up new opportunities for them in the coming months.

During the meeting, reports said, CM Maryam issued directives to alter labour laws in an attempt to protect workers from exploitation while boosting their welfare. Reports quoted her as saying that employment, healthcare, fair wages and shelter are all responsibilities the government should fulfil.

Guaranteeing employment might, however, prove to be tough as provincial governments must follow International Monetary Fund (IMF) mandated austerity measures. Under the stipulated measures, provinces are expected to generate significant budget surpluses — leaving little room for the government to generate employment via expenditures.

Despite the potential hurdles, reports said, the meeting proved to be beneficial for workers as the government also authorised multiple labour welfare initiatives such as new residential colonies and upgrades to “social security hospitals”.

In a bid to introduce efficiency to the healthcare system while simultaneously supporting workers, the provincial government has also authorised the construction of several wellness centres in Lahore and Rawalpindi. These facilities will screen workers and refer them to hospitals to receive specialised healthcare, reports said.

  • Celebrating women… till things get serious

Celebrating women… till things get serious

On March 8, International Women’s Day came and went; however, the staggering disparities between economic indicators for men and women remained. The World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report for 2024 shows how Pakistan has regressed, falling by three ranks in comparison to the previous year.

Pakistan was able to secure a measly 0.570 on the global gender gap index, allowing it to rank only above war-torn Sudan out of the 146 countries which were part of the study. For reference, a score of 0 indicates a complete lack of equality between genders, whereas a score of 1 suggests perfect parity.

Statistics indicate that women face barriers in attaining education, as the female literacy rate sits at 52 percent compared to 73 percent for males. Consequently, women are often confined to the unskilled labour force, earning meagre incomes. Even if they are qualified to secure a decent-paying job, they are usually deprived of the opportunity to seek employment altogether.

Women are frequently denied the right to actively participate in the economy and often lose out on opportunities to increase their standard of living. They are locked out of the workforce and are relegated to unpaid tasks – such as custodial duties in the household.

Proof of the aforementioned fact can be found in Pakistan’s economic parity value, which is at an uneasy 36 percent. When a certain stratum of the population, in this case, women, are deprived of economic opportunities, the prolonged absence of an income stream can result in imbalances in wealth and property ownership.

Moreover, the gap in property ownership is exacerbated as women are denied their right to inherit their share. A survey conducted by Gallup Pakistan in October 2024 revealed that approximately 35 percent of Pakistanis share the view that women are blocked from claiming their rightful share.

Data from the latest Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey (PDHS) revealed that only two percent of women own land as opposed to their male counterparts, of whom 27 percent are land owners. The gap is even more insidious when home ownership is concerned, as 72 percent of males own houses compared to just three percent of women.

While the PDHS has not been conducted in a while, the findings from 2018 remain highly relevant in offering insights as no notable shifts have been noted in key metrics to suggest that ownership levels have significantly deviated from the aforementioned values.

Comparing property ownership along the lines of gender is essential as owning property can unlock access to credit – as formal banking institutions require collateral before issuing loans. This results in female entrepreneurs running into issues blocking them from operating their businesses efficiently.

As per a recent World Bank report on women’s economic empowerment in Pakistan, women are, on average, 55 percent less likely to operate full-time businesses, and are 11 percentage points less likely to run businesses with ‘regular wage’ employees.

If Pakistan seeks to improve the standing of its women, the government could consider investing in education and protecting women’s property rights. Perhaps such investments could allow for future reports to reveal a fall in the hardships women have to face in Pakistan.
