PM Khan calls out Bollywood for spreading vulgarity

Prime Minister Imran Khan has called out Bollywood for spreading vulgarity and adopting the ‘worst of Hollywood’.

In a recent media meet, PM Khan discussed why he requested PTV to air the superhit Turkish series Diriliş: Ertuğrul with Urdu dubbing.

“The show has depicted the culture of Islam,” said PM Imran. “I want our youth to know that we also have a culture which has romance and other interesting elements.”

The premier then called out Bollywood for promoting vulgarity.

“I say this with a heavy heart but thirty to forty years ago, you would have never seen such vulgarity in Bollywood. There is so much trash. Bollywood has adopted the worst of Hollywood.”

“This is affecting our society and youth negatively. Drug culture is emerging, sex crimes are increasing because of such promotion of vulgarity. This is the reason I wanted the series to be aired so that the youth understand that there are other cultures as well.”

“It is important to note that when vulgarity increases in a society, the family system goes down”, remarked the prime minister.

Turkish historical fiction series Diriliş: Ertuğrul, popularly referred to as the Turkish Game of Thrones, has begun to air on PTV Home with Urdu dubbing for the local audiences. PTV obtained the exclusive rights for dubbing and screening it in Pakistan.

Set in 13th century Anatolia, before the establishment of the Ottoman Empire Diriliş: Ertuğrul illustrates the struggle of Ertugrul Gazi, the father of Osman I – the founder of the Ottoman dynasty.

Since its premiere on state-run Turkish TV channel TRT 1 in November 2014, the serial has been telecasted in 60 countries and has a huge fan following across the world.

  • Shatrughan Sinha reveals the story behind his mysterious visit to Pakistan

Shatrughan Sinha reveals the story behind his mysterious visit to Pakistan

Pakistanis were taken aback after pictures of Bollywood actor and ex-BJP member Shatrughan Sinha attending a wedding in Lahore went viral on social media with people wondering if it was actually him or a lookalike. Though it was later confirmed that the actor was indeed in Pakistan, details about his visit were not known and people were very curious to find out, especially considering tense Indo-Pak relations.

As Sinha returned to India after spending two-three days in Pakistan, the ex-member of the Lok Sabha took to Twitter to share details of his visit. Sinha revealed that his visit was purely a personal one and he was here to attend a wedding on the invitation of a dear friend. On his visit, he interacted with several prominent personalities including Reema and former Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa.

Sinha also said that he had a lovely time meeting the President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi and his wife in Lahore, adding that he knew the family very well and had attending Dr Alvi’s son’s wedding a few years back in Karachi.

For good measure, Sinha decided to tag Indian journalists, activists and politicians in his tweets.

Sinha’s visit comes as a surprise, especially considering that last year, the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) had banned and boycotted Mika Singh from the film industry after the singer performed at a wedding in Pakistan. Since then, Bollywood and Indian actors have refrained from interacting with Pakistani artists or people.

The relationship between the two neighbouring countries went from bad to worse after the Modi government scrapped Article 370 stripping Indian-occupied Kashmir of its special status. The valley has been under lockdown ever since.

Former Bollywood actor Zaira Wasim condemns Indian atrocities in Kashmir

Former actor Zaira Wasim, who hails from Kashmir, has condemned the curfews in the region.

Taking to Instagram, the Secret Superstar actor shared a lengthy note writing, “Kashmir continues to suffer and see-saw between hope and frustration. There’s a false and uneasy semblance of calmness in place of escalating despair and sorrow.”

She continues by asking many questions. “Why do we have to live in a world where our lives and wills are controlled, dictated and bent? Why is it so easy to have our voices silenced? Why is it so easy to curtail our freedom of expression? Why aren’t we ever allowed to voice our opinions, let alone our disprovals to decisions that are made contrary to our wishes? Why is it that instead of trying to see the cause of our view, our view is just condemned ruthfully? What is so easy to curb our voices so severely?

“Why can we not live simple lives without always having to wrestle and remind the world of our existence? Why is that life of a Kashmiri is just about experiencing a lifetime of crisis, blockade and disturbance so abundantly that it has taken away the recognition of normalcy and harmony from the hearts and minds?”

Zaira also warned not to believe the beautiful picture that the media has been showing about the Kashmir.

“Do not believe the unfair representation of the facts and details or the rosy hue that the media has cast on the reality of the situation. Ask questions, re-examine the biased assumptions. Ask questions. For our voices”

In early August, the Indian Government revoked Article 370 which granted special status to IoK(Indian occupied Kashmir). Troops were deployed in the region and all communication in the valley was blocked, cutting off Kashmiris from the outside world.

Earlier, Zaira had taken to social media to assure fellow Kashmiris that “this too shall pass.”

Man arrested for molesting former Bollywood actor when she was a minor

A 41-year-old man identified as Vikas Sachdeva has been sentenced to three years in jail by a Mumbai special court for molesting former Bollywood actor Zaira Wasim in 2017 on a flight.

Back then, Zaira posted to her Instagram story that a man molested her while she was half asleep on her seat, on a flight from Delhi to Mumbai. She explained that how the man constantly touched her inappropriately by moving his foot up and down her neck and back.

She tried to film Sachdev, but it was too dark to see his face. Police arrested him after he was reportedly identified with help from the airline, Air Vistara.

She also made a video explaining her horrifying experience on the flight, in which she was heard as saying, “No one will help us if we don’t decide to help ourselves.”

The man, on the other hand, claims he was trying to sleep and the actor mistook it for molestation.

Wasim debuted with Amir Khan in the movie ‘Dangal’ in 2016. In 2019, she announced her decision to quit acting because she wanted to make her bond with God stronger, and the profession threatened it. Her last movie was ‘The Sky is Pink’ with Priyanka Chopra.

Award-winning filmmakers Anurag Kashyap couldn’t praise Deepika enough.

Others defended the actor after people claimed that this was a publicity stunt on her behalf because her film Chappak is releasing this Friday.

Meanwhile, others commented that she has more guts than all the Khans combined.

After BJP spokesman Tajinder Pal Singh called for a boycott of Deepika’s film #ISupportDeepika began to trend on Twitter.

Previously, in a media interaction when asked about the ongoing protests, Deepika had said that she is proud that the students are not scared of expressing themselves.

“I feel proud about it that people are coming out – be it on the streets or wherever they are – they are raising their voice and expressing themselves as it is important. If we want to see change in life and society, it is important that a point of view be put forward,” Deepika had said.

On Sunday masked assailants wielding batons and iron rods attacked JNU leaving more than two dozen injured. According to an Indian journalist, the masked mob was linked to a BJP linked student group. They barged into hostel rooms and assaulted left-wing students and also beat up visually impaired people. There were reports that they were carrying acid as well.

Deepika’s presence at the protest signifies that she is most likely standing with them in protest of these BJP-linked attacks and not the tuition fees hike protests that had been happening at the university earlier. The hostel fee hike is an ongoing issue and protests were held against it previously.

Following the attack, several Bollywood personalities including Vishal Bharadwaj, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Dia Mirza, Rahul Bose, Richa Chadha and Taapsee Pannu led hundreds of people in a peaceful protest against the violence.

Apart from that, Alia Bhatt also condemned the incident.

As did Anil Kapoor, who while speaking to reporters had said, “It has to be condemned. It was quite sad, shocking, what I saw. It was very disturbing. I couldn’t sleep the entire night, thinking what has happened. It has to be condemned. Nothing will come out of violence. Whoever did this, they should be published.”

  • Saif Ali Khan mocked for being ‘ignorant’ about India’s citizenship bill crisis

Bollywood bigwigs including the Khans and Kapoors have been a real disappointment as far as raising their voice against India’s controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is concerned. The act has sparked nationwide protests resulting in police crackdown and more than a dozen people have lost their lives in the process.

According to the Act, people from Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have come to India till December 31, 2014, from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan due to religious persecution there will be given Indian citizenship. The protesters say the legislation was unconstitutional and divisive as it excludes Muslims.

When Saif Ali Khan was asked about his thoughts on the matter, the actor said that as a citizen he is concerned about the current situation in the country.

“There are many things that give us a cause for concern, watching and wondering how where it will all end up,” Saif said.

“It is everybody’s right to protest peacefully and everybody’s right not to,” he continued.

“I would like the protest to be associated with exactly what I am protesting against. There might be a possibility that I will end up representing a different kind of protest. So I am not sure yet. Until I am sure what I am protesting against and whether it is going to be taken that way, I need to think more,” he added.

The Nawab of Pataudi further said he trying to understand the situation better and will make up his mind after he is well-informed.

“There is so much being written in the press, there are so many things that give us concern about what we are reading,” he concluded.

Unsurprisingly, Twitter had a lot to say on the matter and people mocked Saif for being a confident person on screen and the complete opposite in real life.

While Shaan threw subtle shade by sharing a poster of the movie The Silence of the Lambs.

On the other hand, several Bollywood celebrities such as Farhan Akhtar, Parineeti Chopra, Anurag Kashyap, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Hrithik Roshan and Swara Bhasker among others have voiced their disappointment over the amended Citizenship Act.

  • Bollywood reacts to Delhi violence

As protests ravage India, more than 100 students have been injured after baton-wielding police charged at them and fired tear gas at two federally-run universities where students were holding anti-citizenship law protests.

According to reports, students in New Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) and Uttar Pradesh state’s Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) had been protesting since the new law was passed last week.

The contentious law grants citizenship to religious minorities – Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Christians – from neighbouring Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

While critics say it is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist agenda to marginalise the 200-million strong Islamic minority, Modi denies this, saying that the new law “does not affect any citizen of India of any religion”, while accusing “vested interest groups” of stoking the “deeply distressing” unrest.

As the protests get bloodier, people are asking Bollywood celebrities especially Shah Rukh Khan who is an alumnus of Jamia Millia Delhi, to speak up on the matter and express their solidarity.

While A-lister celebrities including the Khans, Kapoors and Priyanka Chopra have remained silent on the matter, other celebs including Sidharth Malhotra, Ayushmann Khurana, Dia Mirza and Vicky Kaushal have condemned this violence.

    BALAKOT INCIDENT

Following the Pulwama incident in which 44 Indian paramilitary soldiers lost their lives, two Indian aircraft entered Pakistani air space on February 27, 2019 for the second time in two days, engaged with Pakistan Air Force (PAF), and as a result, were shot down.

The wreckage of one of the planes landed in Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), and the wreckage of the other plane landed in the Indian-occupied Kasmir (IoK), Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had confirmed at the time.

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was held captive following the aerial dogfight, was handed over to India on March 1 in a peace gesture after PM Imran had announced to release him in an attempt to “de-escalate tensions” between the two countries.
