Mahira Khan responds to online backlash after Neelofar clip goes viral

During a meet-and-greet event in London, Mahira Khan opened up about the ongoing conversation regarding her role in the highly anticipated romance drama Neelofar, expressing that she feels exhausted by the persistent criticism on her work.

Discussing a scene that has gone viral, in which her character strikes herself while looking into a mirror, she explained that the backlash has affected her significantly. She remarked, “One of my scenes from the film, where I hit myself, became viral. Anything I do seems to go viral, and even when I do nothing, that also becomes viral. So I am tired of it.”

Clips of the mirror scene went viral across social media. The moment depicts Mahira’s character having an emotional breakdown, but audience response indicated that the scene did not resonate as intended by the filmmakers. Some viewers commented that the portrayal failed to effectively capture the character’s internal turmoil and that the emotional transition was unclear.

Some social media users questioned the creative choice of placing a blind character in front of a mirror during a breakdown.

A user also shared a different take, saying, “The way the story line is sowed in with the backdrop of a city and two individuals is exactly how magic can unfold the film was so pure.”

Neelofer has garnered mixed reviews, with some praising the film’s cinematography and ode to Lahore, while others planned the story.

Discussions regarding the viral scene popped up amidst heated debates on the film. People said it struggled to maintain audience interest due to repetitive sequences and slow pacing.

  • Mahira–Fawad enthrall in ‘Neelofar’ trailer as countdown to release begins

With pre-sale tickets now live across Pakistan, audiences are gearing up for one of the most talked-about films of the year.

Starring Pakistan’s most iconic on-screen pair, Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan, Neelofar marks a major milestone as Fawad takes on the role of producer for the first time.

The trailer introduces Mahira as Neelofar, a visually impaired woman whose gentleness and quiet resilience form the emotional core of the story. Fawad appears in a more restrained, introspective role as a man caught between love, responsibility, and the consequences of choices he cannot undo.

Visually, the trailer stands out for its warm, poetic cinematography.

    longing.

  • Fawad Khan breaks silence on criticism over judging Pakistan Idol

Fawad Khan breaks silence on criticism over judging Pakistan Idol

The return of Pakistan Idol after a decade has opened a bonanza of soul-stirring voices, audience interest and some controversies.

The new panel of judges features Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Zeb Bangash, Bilal Maqsood, and Fawad Khan, and it’s Fawad who has found himself at the centre of a debate on the judges.

After facing heavy criticism for being part of the Pakistan Idol judging panel, Fawad Khan has finally responded.

In a video circulating on social media, a reporter asked Fawad, “The nation wants to know what it’s like being a judge on Pakistan Idol.” Smiling, Fawad replied, “The nation knows what they want to know. Today everyone knows everything.”

He went on to say that Pakistan Idol is an entertainment platform designed to give young artists a stage. “Whenever I sit in a chair like this, I try to remember when we did Battle of the Bands years ago, two or maybe three seasons. It was always an entertainment platform, and many talented artists came through it. I always wish them well, and it’s an honour to watch them perform. I feel like I’m part of the audience when I sit there, cheering for them,” Fawad said, graceful as ever.

“The unfortunate part is that only one person wins in the end, but I’ve always said that being on such a stage is just a calling card. Everyone sees you now, your introduction to the world has been made. It’s all about giving talent the right exposure,” he added.

The video popped up online after another viral clip from a music launch event for his upcoming film Neelofar in Lahore, where Fawad jokingly said, “No, I haven’t sung any song,” and then added with a grin, “Pakistan isn’t letting me sing.” His humorous comment spread quickly online, with fans delighted by his refusal to take the unfounded criticism to heart.

Singer Humaira Arshad recently criticized the producers, saying they had “prioritised star power over musical authority.” Without directly naming Fawad, she remarked that some judges “have no connection with music,” suggesting their inclusion was based more on fame than skill.

Her comments reignited debate about reality shows drifting away from their main goal — discovering genuine musical talent — and becoming more about celebrity appeal and sponsorships.

But Fawad’s supporters have been quick to defend him. Before becoming one of Pakistan’s biggest TV and film stars, Fawad Khan was the lead vocalist of the popular rock band Entity Paradigm (EP). The group helped shape Pakistan’s early 2000s rock scene with iconic songs like Hamesha and Waqt, which became youth anthems.

Similarly, Bilal Maqsood’s inclusion makes sense for many fans, as he was one half of the legendary pop-rock band Strings. Supporters argue that both Fawad and Bilal bring decades of experience from performing, composing, and understanding the entertainment business.

  • ‘They should be ashamed’: Humaira Arshad slams Pakistan Idol for appointing ‘unqualified judges’

‘They should be ashamed’: Humaira Arshad slams Pakistan Idol for appointing ‘unqualified judges’

Singer Humaira Arshad has criticized the popular singing competition Pakistan Idol for appointing judges with “no background in music”, calling the move disrespectful to both the art form and deserving musicians who have spent their lives mastering it.

Appearing on a show, Humaira was asked whether the panel of judges on Pakistan Idol, particularly the inclusion of actor Fawad Khan was appropriate. She did not hold back.

“This isn’t the first time Pakistan Idol has appointed judges who have no connection to music,” she said. “Judges should feel ashamed. If you have nothing to do with singing, then don’t take a seat on a show meant to judge singers. Let people who are relevant to the field take that place. They should say ‘If you want to include us, include us properly’ and not just as a gimmick.”

Humaira acknowledged that celebrities often bring in sponsorships and attention, but urged them to decline judging roles they aren’t qualified for. “You’re insulting your own show,” she said.

“What happens when a contestant asks the judge to sing in tune, and the judge can’t respond? Will they say, ‘Give me two months to learn and then I’ll answer you?’”

Sharing her disappointment, the singer recalled a moment from the show where a child’s off-key performance inexplicably moved a judge to tears. “It was funny, honestly,” she remarked.

She lamented the exclusion of true legends from such platforms, naming iconic singers like Taranum Naz, Tasawur Khanum, Ghulam Ali, Saira Naseem, Shabnam Majeed, Saima Jahan, and Azra Jahan, artists who, according to her, rightfully deserve a seat at the judging table.

The singer seemed to be unaware that before becoming a megastar, Fawad was very much part of the music industry.

The heart throb is an actor, producer, screenwriter, songwriter, and singer. Khan served as the lead vocalist of the band called Entity Paradigm (EP), which went on to gain national fame after appearing in the finale of Pepsi Battle of the Bands in 2002. Their debut album Irtiqa, released in 2003, was met with critical acclaim and helped establish Khan as a music icon. The romantic track Rahguzar from the album became especially popular.

EP was not just a band, it was a movement. Before the merger that formed EP, two bands had dominated Lahore’s underground music scene: Ahmed Ali Butt’s Entity and Fawad Khan’s Paradigm. Their collaboration on the Jutt and Bond title track led to the fusion of the two bands into one powerhouse.

Though EP eventually disbanded in 2007, they reunited in 2010 for a special appearance in Coke Studio Season 3, where they performed a cover of Sajjad Ali’s Bolo Bolo. Later that year, they released the single Shor Macha, which quickly became a hit. The song’s music video, directed by Bilal Lashari and featuring Khan, further cemented the band’s legendary status.

According to Khan, he performed in nearly 250 live shows as a musician before leaving the band in 2012 to fully dedicate himself to his acting career. But time and again, Fawad has not only judged music shows but also delivered performances that reminded fans he can sing as well.

  • Fawad Khan is the ideal judge for Pakistan Idol and here’s why

Fawad Khan is the ideal judge for Pakistan Idol and here’s why

Social media is abuzz with questions about why Fawad Khan, widely recognized today as a leading actor, is judging the singing reality show Pakistan Idol. While Gen Z may know him primarily as a celebrated actor, millennials and 90s kids remember him first and foremost as the frontman of the iconic rock band Entity Paradigm (EP).

Fawad Afzal Khan, born November 29, 1981 is a multi-talented Pakistani actor, producer, screenwriter, songwriter, and singer, known for his contributions to both film and television. He is the recipient of numerous accolades, including a Filmfare Award, two Lux Style Awards, and six Hum Awards.

Khan’s career began in the early 2000s with the television sitcom Jutt and Bond. It was through this show that he, along with his co-stars, formed the alternative rock band Entity Paradigm (EP). Khan served as the lead vocalist of the band, which went on to gain national fame after appearing in the finale of Pepsi Battle of the Bands in 2002.

Khan made his film debut in the critically acclaimed Khuda Kay Liye (2007), one of Pakistan’s highest-grossing films at the time. However, it was his television roles that truly skyrocketed him to fame. Dramas such as Humsafar and Dastaan earned him widespread admiration, with Khan winning the Best Male Actor Award at the Pakistan Media Awards. His role in Zindagi Gulzar Hai (2012) further established his place in the hearts of fans.

From there, Khan’s acting career took off. He starred in several major Pakistani and Bollywood films, including the blockbuster The Legend of Maula Jatt. He also made a notable cameo in Marvel Studios’ Ms Marvel, playing Hassan, Kamala Khan’s great-grandfather.

But the music never truly left him. In July 2017, Fawad Khan returned to his musical roots by appearing as a judge on Pepsi Battle of the Bands Season 2, alongside Atif Aslam and Meesha Shafi. Not only did he judge the competition, but he also performed the show’s introductory song, which was released in a special video on July 23 with Aslam and Shafi.

Later in the season, Khan delivered a memorable performance of his song Hamesha with his band on the show’s stage, reigniting the raw energy and passion that had once defined EP. Fans were ecstatic, vibing with the performance that threw them back to the golden age of Pakistani rock.

He also stole the show with his original Satrangi along with the biggest orchestra performance ever in the third season of Pepsi Battle of the Bands. He also performed on Uth Jaag in season 4.

In addition to this, Khan lent his voice to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) anthem Khel Deewano Ka, which became a massive hit. His vocals received widespread praise, proving once again that his talents go beyond acting.

Khan’s signature look — dark eyes, black attire, chains, and that brooding rockstar aura remains unforgettable for millennials. It wasn’t just about music. It was a vibe, a statement, and a feeling that still resonates deeply with fans. For them, Khan will always be the iconic rockstar of their youth.

So, why is Fawad Khan judging Pakistan Idol? Because he’s not just an actor. He’s a musician, a performer, and a pioneer who helped shape Pakistan’s modern music scene. His contributions to both music and entertainment make him more than qualified to judge a platform like Pakistan Idol. If anything, he absolutely deserves that seat at the judge’s table.

Directed and written by Ammar Rasool, Neelofar has been in the making since 2019. Production was initially delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced the team to pause filming with only 10 days remaining in the shoot.
