Hania Aamir: first a vlogger now a TikToker?

Hania Aamir, in a video posted to her YouTube channel, has announced that she will now be making TikTok videos as she is obsessed with them.

The first video that she tried making involved her entering the car from one door and exiting from the other. When she exits the second door, her clothes change.

The second and third videos involved her indulging in tricks in which she instantly changed her clothes and shoes.

While Hania’s initial TikTok videos were viral challenges, she wanted to make some original content so she decided to make a video in which she plays the double-role of a mother and daughter. As the daughter enters the house, apparently from a late-night party, the mother waits for her with a slipper in her hand. The daughter runs to her room to dodge the slipper but the slipper follows her to the room and starts banging on the door.

Once the banging stops, the daughter thinks she is safe but immediately the slipper hits her head and her outfit changes and she turns into a girl who does house chores.

Ending the video, Hania asked her followers to rate her TikTok videos by commenting ‘ON’ or ‘OFF’.

“This was me trying to get myself together after shedding two tears over three mean comments,” said Hania while sharing a picture of herself.

“Words are powerful. They can create and destroy. Why use them to knock people down when you can use them to lift each other up,” she questioned.

“Being mean is easy and weak and projection of your own fears and insecurities. Use your words wisely,” she added.

Earlier in an interview, Mawra Hocane had also talked about being attacked and criticised on social media.

“I am getting used to it now, but six years ago it was very difficult,” said the actor. “Like, if I am giving an interview right now, it is possible that I may say something wrong. But I realised five years ago that anything wrong that comes out of your mouth is no longer wrong when it reaches social media, it becomes a sin.”

“You can’t even think about making a mistake, because you have been placed on a pedestal where you can’t say anything wrong. So the first time this hit me I was like, I want to stop using it. I want to stop acting and I just want to leave. And I actually went to Sydney and told my parents ‘I don’t want to do this anymore,’” she shared.

“I told my parents people here want to kill me because I said something wrong. And even today I don’t want to defend myself, I am scared of it. I say ‘you know what? I am wrong! But are you really going to take my life for it?’” she questioned.

Mawra further shared that the fear has never left her which is why she prefers to play it safe in her interviews and has started opting for giving standard responses.

  • ‘Ishqiya’ ends on a bittersweet note

‘Ishqiya’ ends on a bittersweet note

Hania Aamir, Feroze Khan, Ramsha Khan and Gohar Rasheed’s painstaking romantic saga Ishqiya came to a close Monday night with a finale that left viewers torn. While some thought the ending was fitting, others were rooting for a happy ending for Rumi (Hania) and Hamza (Feroze). But alas that did not happen, even though Hamna (Ramsha) and Azeem (Gohar) got their happy ending. If you ask me, I’m just glad that no one died or lost their sanity.

To be honest, I really was not a big fan of Ishqiya given its ridiculous storyline and I made that pretty clear at several instances (Here and here). But given the nature of my job and the fact that the drama trended every week on YouTube (the last episode is trending at number two on YouTube Pakistan) and social media, I had no choice but to follow it and try to figure out what exactly made it a hit. After much thought and going through audience comments, I came to the conclusion that strong performances by the lead and supporting cast, Rumi (Hania) and Azeem’s (Gohar) characters and the chemistry between Hania and Feroze is what attracted audiences and made them tune in every Monday.

To sum up the plot in a few lines, Ishqiya was the story of two sisters Rumi and Hamna (Ramsha Khan) who have conservative, yet loving parents. Hamna is in a relationship with her class fellow Hamza but her father Siddiqui sahib (Shabbir Jan) gets her married to Azeem. Being an obedient daughter and a weak person, Hamna does not protest and goes ahead with her father’s wishes. This is when the problem begins. Hamza is heartbroken over Hamna’s marriage and thinks she betrayed him so he sets out to seek revenge from her by marrying her sister so he can be close to her and mentally torture her. In the process, he ends up falling for his wife but as they say, you reap what you sow. Pretty convoluted if you ask me.

While the actors did complete justice to their roles and delivered above-average performances – Hania was great as the bubbly, chirpy Rumi, while Ramsha fit perfectly as the sober and introverted Hamna; Gohar was wonderful as the soft-spoken Azeem and as for Feroze, he seems to have perfected the role of the ‘bad boy’ – they were let down by a weak script, bizarre plot and poorly written characters. The drama relied heavily on flashbacks, greatly testing our patience because while the present featured someone crying, the flashback saw the person crying even more. Basically, there is lots of crying in the drama, except a few moments of comic relief by Hania. Gohar and Hamna became monotonous in a few episodes because they maintained the same expressions. But then again that was more of the script’s fault than their own.

Similarly, Hania and Feroze’s chemistry was crackling and straight out of a Mills and Boons novel but again it was neither explored nor developed properly. The two complimented each other well and were one of the highlights of the drama.

Badar Mehmood has given us many memorable dramas including Cheekh and Balaa and I’m still trying to figure out why he opted for a project like this. But given the drama’s success, I’m scared that our directors and producers will continue to churn out such senseless and nonsensical stories. Written by Mohsin Ali Shah, Ishqiya was produced by Fahad Mustafa and Dr Ali Kazmi under their production house Big Bang Entertainment.

Hania Aamir’s big revelation that Asim Azhar and her are just good friends sent the awaam (masses) into a frenzy considering everyone was convinced that the two are dating. After Hania cleared the air regarding their relationship, social media was lit with memes and fans poked fun at Asim for being ‘friend-zoned’.

“Asim is a beautiful part of my life and we have seen some insane times together and we share a bond beyond anyone’s comprehension,” the actor had written on social media. “We choose to look at and acknowledge love not hate. And now a few days later, Asim has broken his silence on the matter.

I’ve had my fair share of sleepless nights and irritable mornings but if it wasn’t for these challenges and the support from my loved ones – I wouldn’t have been the man that I am today & would definitely not have the courage to write this,” shared Asim.

He then went onto thank everyone for the love and support they have shown.

“Thank you for showing love to all my songs and especially the response on Tum Tum, which has been overwhelming,” said Asim.

‘Tum Tum’: Asim Azhar releases the ‘biggest collaboration of the year’

Asim Azhar’s latest song Tum Tum, which had received a lot of hate for featuring Tiktoker Areeka Haq, has finally released.

Touted as the “biggest collaboration of the year”, the song features Asim, Areeka, Shamoon Ismail, Mooroo, Talha Anjum and Talha Yunus. Hania Aamir and Asad Siddiqui have a guest appearance in the song.

While the song garnered more than a million views within hours of being released, the storyline is not so impressive and shows Areeka as a heartless gold-digger who gets together with boys and fleeces them of their money.

Even the music video begins with the quote: “If you choose money over love, you will always be poor.”

    Watch it here:

Despite the views, the song did not resonate well with the audiences who took to social media to voice their criticism.

    THE INCIDENT

On May 23 (Chaand Raat) Malik Riaz’s daughters – Amber and Pashmina – along with Usman’s wife Aamna stormed into Uzma’s house with 12 gunmen where they assaulted and injured Uzma and her sister and threatened to kill them.

They vandalised the house, broke things and even attempted to sexually assault the girls by telling their armed guards to touch them. Moreso, they filmed everything including the women which is a breach of their privacy. The lawyer added that Riaz’s daughters took away all the belongings of the two sisters, including their clothes and shoes and said that they will set them on fire.

Videos of the incident went viral on social media, sparking public outrage. Uzma, in her official statement, named her perpetrators and vowed that she will stand up against their tyranny.

“I have been shamed, blackmailed, harassed, been threatened to kill in the past three days. I feel I have nothing to lose now and I have decided to fight the strongest people of Pakistan. For me, it is either I get justice or I will be killed but there is no turning back now.”

“I will fight against daughters (Amber Malik & Pashmina Malik) of Malik Riaz, who stormed into my house around midnight with 12 men,” she added.

Talking about the song and the story behind its release, Asim’s close friend Hania Aamir in her Instagram stories shared, “I remember being really, really upset when things went bad [between India and Pakistan] and we found out that Asim’s voice may not be used and his name would not be anywhere. Everyone who had heard the song and knew about it was pretty upset.”

“I even had a grudge for some time,” she continued. “But for some reason, Asim was very calm about it and had no bitter taste. When the song released in someone else’s voice, Asim still did not let it bother him and he shared with us that he will make his own video and release it later.”

“If someone takes my content and uses it and doesn’t give me any credit just because two people don’t get along, I would be really annoyed,” she added. “Somehow Asim saw the bigger picture and was calm about it and talked about making his own video, which has now finally been released.”

Fortunately, Asim did receive his due credit and the singer took to social media to share his excitement.

The song has been well-received by the audiences and is currently trending at number six on YouTube Pakistan.
