According to the list shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Siddique on Monday, the Defense Minister used the keyword “Imran Khan” 149 times in barely three months, while the “Israel” keyword ranked second as it was used 101 times.

Imran Khan’s lawyer mocked Khawaja Asif’s focus on Imran Khan instead of defence-related responsibilities.

As per the 46 keywords list shared by Siddique, Khawaja Asif used “PTI” or “Tehreek-e-Insaf” 87 times, while “America” was used 39 times.

As mentioned in the list, “Afghanistan”, “Intishar (chaos)”, and “Gandapur” keywords have been used 13 times. However, “military” was used 12 times.

Additionally, according to the list, the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader also used “ghattiya (cheap)”, “chawal (idiot)”, “beghairat (shameless)”, and “doob Kay marr (drown in shame).”

  • ‘House arrest instead of jail possible if Imran Khan does not challenge system’

‘House arrest instead of jail possible if Imran Khan does not challenge system’

Senior journalist and analyst Ansar Abbasi has claimed that the government could consider offering Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan the option to stay under house arrest instead of Adiala Jail if he “does not challenge the current system”.

According to the veteran journalist, key members of the government’s negotiations team are of the view that if the jailed former premier puts an end to agitational politics, he can be moved to his residence in Bani Gala from the jail in Rawalpindi.

However, he added, there would be no compromise on May 9 consequences or the demands against coalition government completing its five-year term.

It merits a mention that neither the government nor the PTI has so far openly or formally discussed the possibility of house arrest for Khan, and the reports are rooted in an informal mention of the same by Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif’s aide Rana Sanaullah.

In a conversation with reporters after meeting their brother in jail, Imran Khan’s sisters Aleema Khan and Noreen Khan have also rubbished these claims besides quoting their brother as determined to not consider it an option till political prisoners belonging to the PTI were freed.

“The proposal I received for a deal was: negotiate with us, and we will give your party ‘political space’, but you will be placed under house arrest and moved to Bani Gala. My response was that all other political prisoners must first be released. I would rather stay in jail than accept any deal. I will neither go into house arrest nor to any jail in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa [sic],” read a Dec 27 post on the incarcerated former premier’s X account.

Abbasi, in his report, also quoted sources as saying that in the Jan 2 meeting between the negotiating teams of the PTI and the ruling coalition, the government was likely express that all individuals facing serious charges, including Khan, would have to get themselves cleared from court.

PTI, on the other hand, would come up with a formal demand for the release of all workers and leaders, primarily Khan, the report said.

While the same could result in yet another deadlock, Senator Irfan Siddiqi, who is a part of the government’s negotiating team, told a private media outlet said that he was not aware of any proposal regarding shifting Khan to Bani Gala.

He said the PTI committee had been told that a majority of the current government’s members were imprisoned during the PTI government, and all of them were released through judicial process instead of an executive order.

  • Imran Khan all praise for ‘mujahids’ convicted by military courts

Imran Khan all praise for ‘mujahids’ convicted by military courts

Former prime minister (PM) Imran Khan’s sister Noreen Khan has quoted her brother as praising party workers’ determination despite military courts’ conviction, terming the convicts of May 9 riots as ‘mujahids’.

“They [convicted PTI workers] have shown great patience. I am proud of them. They are Mujahids,” Noreen, while speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail, quoted her brother as saying.

Military courts had on Dec 21 awarded prison sentences to at least 25 PTI workers and leaders for attacking state installations on May 9, 2023. On Dec 26, Noreen’s son and nephew of the incarcerated former premier, Hassaan Khan Niazi, was among 60 others who were awarded jail terms for their involvement in the May 9 riots.

While several PTI supporters and leaders remain undertrial in military as well as anti-terror courts for their involvement in the violent protests that had erupted following Khan’s arrest, PTI maintains its innocence, continuing to demand a judicial probe into the riots.

Terming civilians’ conviction by military courts as “baseless”, Noreen said that all demonstrators had done on May 9 was exercise their right to protest. “They had not killed anyone,” she said.

Describing her recent visit to Kot Lakhpat jail, Khan’s sister said that all convicted were “happy”. “My son Hassaan Khan Niazi was also happy… and nobody was disappointed with their sentence.”

Meanwhile, Aleema Khan, who accompanied Noreen outside Adiala, reiterated PTI’s claim that scores of party workers were missing since after violent November demonstrations. She went on to claim that her brother feared the protesters had been “killed and buried”.

Aleema added that Khan had categorically denied the government’s proposal for house-arrest, adding that her brother had vowed to face cases come what may.

She further said that incarcerated Khan refused to strike any deal. “Why would he enter a deal after already spending a year and half in prison?” she said and quoted her brother as rejecting any offers for his release.

“The PTI founder said that his cases have been wrapped up,” Aleema said, adding that Khan continued to reiterate his two demands – the formation of a judicial commission comprising three senior-most Supreme Court judges to probe May 9 and November 26 events, and the release of all political prisoners.

Earlier, PTI Senator Shibli Faraz also rubbished the “false perception” that Khan was seeking relief for himself in negotiations with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led coalition government.

  • Gen Bajwa sent me to jail, not Imran: Khawaja Saad Rafique

Gen Bajwa sent me to jail, not Imran: Khawaja Saad Rafique

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique on Saturday accused former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Qamar Javed Bajwa and ex-Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar of being involved in his imprisonment during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government.

Addressing a seminar to commemorate his father Khawaja Muhammad Rafique’s death anniversary in Lahore, Rafique said, “It was not Imran Khan who sent me to jail but General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Saqib Nisar.”

While questioning why their names were not highlighted, the senior PML-N leader, in the same breath, answered that their names should be addressed. “It’s not acceptable that politicians face [accountability], but the ex-army chief, after creating all the mess, keeps playing golf,” he added.

Highlighting political polarisation in the country, Rafique accused founder PTI Imran Khan, ex-CJP Saqib Nisar, and former COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa, of turning the charter of democracy upside down, adding that the trio have “changed the direction of the country.”

Moreover, He took aim at PTI for believing in the politics of long marches, saying, “We neither toppled the PPP government, nor PPP topple our government through long marches.”

Commenting on ongoing negotiations between PTI and Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif-led government, the PML-N leader expressed optimism about the success of the dialogue.

He praised the incumbent government’s effort to prevent the country from economic meltdown, adding, “The government and Pakistan army have made a joint effort to prevent the country from defaulting.”

The former Minister of Railways and Aviation explained that the newly elected United States (US) administration of Donald Trump has no interest in former premier Imran Khan’s release, noting that the US is concerned about Pakistan’s atomic programme and ballistic missiles programme.

Earlier, PML-N bigwig Khawaja Saad Rafique hit back at US President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Envoy for Special Missions, Richard Grenell, over his persistent social media posts advocating for the release of Imran Khan.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Rafique called out Grenell over his hypocrisy, saying, “His [Richard Grenell] conscience has been sleeping since the 2018 election theft to the dark period of political revenge and long imprisonment of opposition leaders.”

The PML-N leader, who remained imprisoned during Imran Khan’s tenure, reminded Grenell that the elected government of ex-PM Nawaz Sharif in Pakistan was overthrown by the “collusion of the establishment, the judiciary and Imran Khan’s party.”

  • Negotiating with Taliban is establishment’s policy, not Imran Khan’s: Najam Sethi

Negotiating with Taliban is establishment’s policy, not Imran Khan’s: Najam Sethi

Senior analyst Najam Sethi has stated that negotiating with Taliban and resettling terrorists back in the country was the military establishment’s policy, not Imran Khan’s.

“From 2008 to 2018, at least fourteen negotiations or settlements were made with the Taliban. There is a history of Pakistan’s capitulation when dealing with these terrorists. If you remember, there was also a time when the Taliban were referred to as good but misguided Muslims,” stated Sethi on Samaa News.

“Imran Khan was simply the spokesperson of the establishment, and these were the establishment’s policies. Khan couldn’t have done anything about it,” concluded Najam Sethi.

Sethi’s statement comes right after Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said on Friday: “The entire nation is paying the price with its blood for the policy of bringing back and settling in Afghanistan under its own stubbornness, but such a person is still incapable of learning from his mistake.”

Pakistan has consistently blamed its neighbouring country, Afghanistan, since 2022 due to a stark increase in terrorism in the country.

“Terrorist outfits are being provided sanctuaries and support and are allowed unrestrained activities on Afghan territory,” stated the DG ISPR.

“All evidence related to terrorism can be traced back to the safe havens enjoyed by terrorists in Afghanistan. The army chief has a clear and straight-forward stance on this: that Pakistan has reservations on banned organisations’ sanctuaries, support, and unrestrained activities on Afghan territory,” he asserted.

The DG ISPR also added: “From September 2023 till now, 815,000 illegal Afghan citizens have gone returned [to their Afghanistan].”

Pakistan targeted Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) camps late Tuesday night with airstrikes in Afghanistan’s eastern Paktika province, reportedly killing and wounding multiple suspected terrorists. Dawn News reported that Pakistani fighter jets targeted TTP camps in the Murgha and Laman areas of the Bernal district in Afghanistan.

An X post by the Afghan Defence Ministry also confirmed Pakistan’s targeted attack. However, it claimed that the fatalities from Pakistan’s airstrikes included a number of children and other civilians.

“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan considers this a brutal act against all international principles and blatant aggression and strongly condemns it,” the ministry said.

This is the second time in 2024 that Pakistan has targeted TTP camps inside Afghanistan. Previously, it launched two airstrikes into Afghanistan’s Paktika and Khost provinces in March, targeting multiple terrorist hideouts.

  • Here are some of Senator Faisal Vawda’s predictions that came true

Here are some of Senator Faisal Vawda’s predictions that came true

Many Pakistani politicians have often been called spokespersons for the country’s establishment. In the corridors of power, there is always one voice that echoes the whispers of the unseen.

Earlier, the founder of Awami Muslim League (AML), Sheikh Rashid, was deemed the unofficial spokesperson of the country’s powerful establishment. However, Vawda, following his termination from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had been given the title of the “political insider.”

Currently, Vawda is known for his claims, bold remarks, and headline-grabbing predictions that often prove accurate. Let’s explore some of his notable predictions that prove true or might be true in the future.

    Prediction about Bushra Bibi’s release

During a talk show on ARY News on October 23, Vawda said that the wife of former Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, will be released from jail in the upcoming days.

“She will be completely free, and no new cases will be made against her once her bail is granted. Regular meetings with Imran Khan will resume,” claimed the senator.

    True

On October 24, founder PTI Imran Khan’s spouse was released after being incarcerated for nine months in the Adiala Jail Rawalpindi.

Prediction about ex-ISI Chief Faiz Hamid’s military trial

Prediction about ex-ISI Chief Gen (r) Faiz Hamid

Senator Faisal Vawda said on October 21, 2024, while appearing on Samaa’s Nadeem Malik show, that former Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) chief General (r) Faiz Hamid will face court martial and get the punishment he deserves, come what may.

“He [Faiz] will not only be court-martialed but will also be sentenced,” Vawda said. “Others will also be punished,” Vawda added.

    True

On December 10, 2024, ex-spymaster General (r) Faiz Hamid was indicted on multiple allegations, including engaging in political activities, Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

According to the military media wing, Hamid was charged with engaging in political activities, violations of the Official Secret Act detrimental to the safety and interest of the state, misuse of authority and government resources and causing wrongful loss to a person(s).

Currently, the former spymaster is facing Field General Court Martial (FGCM) proceedings, and the verdict is expected to come in January 2025.

At the time this story was edited, former spymaster Faiz Hamid was facing the FGCM proceedings. The military court decision is pending over Hamid’s alleged involvement in political activities, the violation of the Official Secret Act and others.

Senator Faisal Vawda’s other predictions that might be true in the future.

Prediction about the gun attack on Imran Khan at Wazirabad

On 12 December 2024, Senator Faisal Vawda, while appearing on Hum News ‘FAISLA AAP KA with Asma Shirazi,’ Vawda claimed that close aides of former Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan were involved in the attack that left him shot in the leg during a rally at Wazirabad in 2022.

“When Imran Khan finds out that his trusted people were involved in the attack on him, it will shake the ground beneath his feet,” he said.

On November 3, 2022, Imran Khan, along with other party leaders, was injured, and one party worker was killed when a gunman opened fire on the party founder’s container as the convoy reached Wazirabad’s Allah Wala Chowk.

Prediction about Journalist Arshad Sharif’s Murder case

Faisal Vawda often gave the perception that, allegedly, PTI Punjab political leadership has a direct link with the murder of journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya.

On 12 December in an ARY News programme, he emphasised that the verdict in the Arshad Sharif murder case would be the last nail in the coffin [for the PTI].

Prediction about the removal of one of the four province Governor

On 13 December 2024, Senator Faisal Vawda, while appearing on the ARY News show Aiteraz Hai, predicted that one of the four provincial Governors may lose their seat over allegations of moral corruption in the coming days.

On being asked to reveal the name of the Governor, Vawda hinted that he was involved in illegally acquiring money, creating confusion and damaging the country’s reputation. “The Governor might be changed either in a week, or it could take up to two months, but the ball is rolling now,” he added.

Currently, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan serves as the Governor of Punjab, while Faisal Karim Kundi holds the Governor’s position in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Kamran Tessori is the Governor of Sindh, and Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail represents the federal government as the Governor of Balochistan.

However, except for the Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, no other Governor reacted to the Vawda claim.

  • Stay home if Adiala jail doesn’t suit you, but let us complete our five years: Rana Sanaullah

Stay home if Adiala jail doesn’t suit you, but let us complete our five years: Rana Sanaullah

Advisor to Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Friday spoke about government demands that might be included in negotiations with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Appearing on 365 News political talk show Head On, Rana Sanaullah stated that the incumbent government was of the view that if Imran Khan didn’t want to be imprisoned in Adiala Jail Rawalpindi, then he could come home but let the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) led government will complete the five-year term.

Ex-PM Imran Khan stated on Friday that he was offered home arrest.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the party founder remarked, “The proposal I received for a deal was: Negotiate with us, and we will give your party ‘political space’, but you will be placed under house arrest and moved to Bani Gala.”

“My response was that all other political prisoners must first be released. I would rather stay in jail than accept any deal. I will neither go into house arrest nor to any prison in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he added.

However, contrary to Imran Khan’s claim, PML-N top brass Rana Sanaullah denied that the government had offered house arrest to Imran Khan, noting, “Being the former premier, courts might grant Imran Khan house arrest.”

On being asked about whether the government will agree to hold elections in the next two to three years as a demand of negotiations with the PTI, the Advisor to PM on Political Affairs clarified, “This time, I’ll say it is a non-negotiable demand.”

When questioned whether the government was concerned about the United States (US) President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Envoy for Special Missions, Richard Grenell’s consistent posts in favour of Imran Khan, the former Punjab Law minister categorically said, “We [government] should not worry even if the Donald J Trump himself issues such statements.”

Declaring Richard Grenell’s remarks about Imran Khan a stunt, Sanaullah maintained, “Richard Grenell’s statements don’t hold any importance for the government.”

Following the crackdown of Pakistan security forces on PTI demonstrators on November 26 in Islamabad, former US ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell initially posted on his account on X in favour of Imran Khan, writing, “Free Imran Khan!”. However, he did not receive much attention at that time.

Grenell was discussed in Pakistan politics on December 15, when Trump appointed him as his Special Envoy for Global Missions in his administration. His social media posts then were amplified by PTI supporters.

  • ‘Imran’s suffering hurts more than my son’s sentence,’ says Hassaan Niazi’s mother

‘Imran’s suffering hurts more than my son’s sentence,’ says Hassaan Niazi’s mother

A day after a military court sentenced her son to 10 years in prison, Noreen Khan Niazi has said that her brother and former prime minister Imran Khan’s suffering hurts her more than her son’s ordeal.

Noreen’s son and nephew of the incarcerated former premier, Hassaan Khan Niazi, was on Thursday awarded 10 years in jail for his involvement in the May 9 riots. According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a military court found Hassaan guilty of ransacking Lahore Corps Commander’s residence (Jinnah House).

“My son’s sentence hurts, but Imran Khan’s suffering hurts me even more,” Noreen said in an interview with ABN News following her son’s sentencing. Declaring it “injustice”, she alleged that the sentence “stemmed from personal hatred”.

“If the maximum sentence limit had been more than ten years, then they surely would have awarded that to Hassaan,” Noreen said. She, however, expressed hope that her son among others would be released after the convictions were challenged in the high court.

To a question about the dozens of pending cases against her brother, Noreen accused the judiciary of being compromised.

“The reason behind the frivolous cases on Imran Khan is to force him to leave the country,” she said, alleging that the government had kept her brother in Adiala Jail’s death-row cells.

To a question about the ongoing negotiations between the government and PTI, she said she only had faith in Allah.

Separately, Hassaan’s father Hafizullah Niazi appeared on Dunya News where he said the state had exploited a blatant lie to sentence his son.

He claimed that his son had told him all about how Jinnah House was already on fire when he reached there on May 9, 2023. “There was chaos everywhere and I just gave a speech there,” Niazi quoted his son as saying.

It is pertinent to note that Hassaan was not the only person who was on Thursday sentenced for his involvement in May 9 riots. According to the military’s media wing, military courts awarded punishments to at least 59 other, including former PTI lawmaker from Lahore, Mian Abad Farooq.

Earlier, military courts had on Saturday awarded sentences to at least 25 others for attacking state installations on May 9, 2023. Scores of PTI supporters and leaders remain undertrial in military as well as anti-terror courts for their involvement in violent protests that broke out following the former premier’s arrest last year.

  • Imran Khan admits govt saved country from bankruptcy

Imran Khan admits govt saved country from bankruptcy

Founder Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan acknowledged on Thursday that the incumbent federal government led by Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has stabilised the country’s economy, which was on the verge of collapse in the past years.

“The government has successfully prevented the economy from going bankrupt,” he said while speaking to journalists at Adiala Jail Rawalpindi after a hearing of the ToshaKhana case.

On being asked whether he was conceding that the government had improved the economy, the former PM responded, “The economy has been stabilised, and it has been rescued from bankruptcy, but it has not seen growth yet.”

The former Premier’s statement comes as the country witnesses improvement in economic indicators, with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) touching an all-time high and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) slashing the interest rate to 13 per cent from a historic high of 23 per cent.

A brokerage report said on Tuesday that Pakistan’s annual consumer price inflation rate is expected to drop to 4.1 per cent in December, the lowest level in more than six years.

“We expect inflation in December to decline to 4.1 per cent YoY [year-on-year], down from last month’s 4.9 per cent. This marks the lowest inflation reading since April 2018, when it stood at 3.96 per cent,” said Arif Habib Limited in a report.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, clarified on Thursday that her brother will not accept house arrest.

Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Aleema Khan said that knowing that rumours had been spread that her brother would be shifted to Bani Gala or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Khan made it clear that he will not accept house arrest or be moved from jail.

“I am clarifying that all political prisoners be released, and if they want to keep me in jail, they can, but I will not agree to house arrest,” Aleema Khan quoted her brother as saying.

She also stated that her brother expressed concern over the reported airstrike by Pakistani jets near the Pak-Afghan border and said that the country’s economic development is linked to peace in Afghanistan.
“Such actions in Afghanistan will destroy peace in Pakistan as well as have a direct impact on the country’s economy,” she said while quoting Imran Khan.

When questioned about the first phase of the civil disobedience movement aimed to halt remittances, Aleema said that Khan made it crystal clear that the remittance campaign would only end once the government addresses Khan’s two demands: the release of PTI workers and the formation of a judicial commission comprising three senior-most judges of the Supreme Court, to probe the event of May 9 and November 26.

  • Imran Khan’s nephew among 60 others convicted by military courts

Imran Khan’s nephew among 60 others convicted by military courts

Military courts have sentenced another 60 civilians, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s nephew Hassaan Khan Niazi, for their involvement in May 9 riots, the Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR) said Thursday.

As per the details, Niazi has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his involvement in the ransacking of Lahore Corps Commander’s residence (Jinnah House). Among other convicts was Mian Abad Farooq, a former PTI lawmaker from Lahore, who was sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment.

“Sequel to the announcement of the May 9 punishments in light of the Supreme Court’s decision, the Field General Court Martial has promulgated the punishments to the following 60 culprits after examining all evidence, ensuring the provision of all legal rights to the convicts, completion of due process and the appropriate legal proceedings,” read a statement issued by the military’s media wing.

The latest sentences come just days after the ISPR announced that 25 civilians had been handed prison terms for their involvement in violent protests that broke out over Khan’s arrest in May last year. The demonstrations saw attacks on state establishments, including military installations across the country.

Thursday’s statement once again stressed that all individuals sentenced by military courts had the right to appeal the sentence as outlined by the law of the land. “The nation, government and armed forces remain resolute in their commitment to ensuring justice and upholding the inviolable authority of the state,” the ISPR concluded.

After months of deliberations over military court’s eligibility to try and sentence civilians, as many as 25 persons were last week convicted and sentenced for their involvement in May 9 attacks on state installations.

“Field General Court Martial have in [the] first phase promulgated the punishments to 25 accused,” read a statement issued by ISPR on Dec 21.

While the PTI demanded a judicial commission to probe last year’s events, the statement added that the promulgation of the sentences of remaining accused was also being done and will be announced shortly as and when the due process was completed.

It added that the nation on May 9 witnessed tragic incidents of politically provoked violence and arson at multiple places, marking a dark chapter in the history of Pakistan.

Building on a sustained narrative of hate and lies, the ISPR said, politically orchestrated attacks were carried out on the installations of the armed forces including the desecration of martyrs’ monuments.

“Many accused are also being tried in various Anti-Terrorism Courts and their cases are being pursued as per the law, however, justice would truly be fully served once the mastermind and planners of 9th May Tragedy are punished as per the Constitution and laws of the land,” the statement read.
