    Lt Gen Satti becomes head of FPSC

    President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of Lieutenant General Akhtar Nawaz Satti as Chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC).

    Satti will take charge of the post after he retires from the army. The post has been vacant since August 22, The News reported.

    According to the FPSC website, the Commission comprises a Chairman and Members. The Chairman is appointed by the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, at his discretion, under Article 242 (IA) of the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973.

    Moreover, the President appointed members on the advice of the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The Secretary assists the Commission and provides a link between the Commission, its Secretariat, and the government agencies.

    Journalist Azaz Syed has told Geo News last night, that after the arrest of former ISI Chief Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed and the detention of Superintendent Adiala Jail, Imran Khan is “worried about a possible military trial.”

    “Right now, evidence against Gen Faiz is being collected, and this stage is called a summary of evidence. Khan’s name is coming up in the Army’s investigation against Gen Faiz,” revealed Syed.

    Azaz further stated that after evidence collection, a Field General Court Martial would be constituted.

    “If the civilian courts cannot convict Khan, then there are chances that he might be convicted in a military trial, so his concerns are genuine,” noted Azaz Syed.

    He went on to reveal that some YouTubers met Gen Faiz regularly in Bahawalpur and Peshawar and remained in touch with him even after retirement. “Faiz Hameed used to change his phone SIM frequently and used an old Chinese phone. His direct contact with PTI’s Hasan Raoof has been established.”

    Nawaz Sharif seeks unconditional dialogue with PTI, says Rana Sanaullah

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Advisor on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah said that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif wants unconditional dialogue with all parties, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

    Earlier, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had denied reports of receiving direction from former PM Nawaz Sharif to initiate talks with all parties, along with PTI.

    According to Associated Press Pakistan (APP), Sanaullah stated on a local news channel, “We have also maintained the same stance before the PTI lawmakers in the National Assembly.”

    Emphasizing that Shehbaz shook hands with everyone two weeks ago, offering unconditional talks, Sanaullah advised the PTI to reverse its “stubborn attitude” to make talks productive.

    Responding to Chief Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s negotiation offer, Sanaullah said that PML-N believes in democracy and negotiation to curb political issues.

    IHC registrar objects to Imran Khan’s petition against potential military trial

    The Islamabad High Court (IHC) registrar office has objected to former Pakistan Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s petition to bar his potential military trial in connection with the May 9 riots cases.

    The IHC registrar objected to the petition, stating that the petitioner could only seek relief while referring to a specific First Information Report (FIR). The court also highlighted the absence of any document and an order that should be attached to the petition.

    The IHC registrar further objected to how a petition could be filed with a high court while the matter of military trials is sub judice in the Supreme Court; registering cases in Punjab is impossible for a federal court to hear.

    Earlier, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) filed a plea under Article 199 of the constitution.

    Imran Khan’s counsel, Intezar Panjutha, questioned, “How can the leader of a popular political party be taken to a military court?”

    Prime Minister’s Special Assistant for Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, claimed in an interview with ARY News that Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa has rejected any possibility of an extension to his tenure.

    “CJP Isa is an honourable judge; an age limit extension for everyone is acceptable,” he said.

    “The government is short of the required number of constitutional amendments in parliament. It is the privilege of parliament to amend the constitution,” he added.

    Commenting on the previous extension of former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Sanaullah said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif never hinted at an extension for Bajwa.

    “It is possible that after Isa’s retirement, WhatsApp messages may surface regarding communications between the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former spymaster General Faiz Hameed on May 9th, and those who facilitated their communication may speak out later,” he concluded.

    In a short clip that has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), journalist Umar Cheema alleged that police have found objectionable material on Orya Maqbool Jan’s mobile phone while in custody.

    YouTuber Orya Maqbool Jan, known for his right-wing religious views, was arrested on August 22 by the FIA’s cybercrime wing in Lahore for alleged hateful social media posts regarding the Mubarak Sani case.

    “Charges brought up against him include sharing of vulgar and nude media in some drinking party where Orya Maqbool Jan is present.”

    He also alleged that the authorities have found evidence that indicates Orya’s team was involved in creating trends against Army Chief Gen Asim Munir.

    Umar opined that the coming days will tell how the case unfolds.

    “Instability will end once all institutions start working within the limits of the Constitution,” he added.

    Hasan also alleged that the ruling government was “desperate” to extend the tenure of Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa.

    She also showed concern on him congratulating the Taliban on the fall of Kabul, a development Imran said was “breaking the shackles of slavery,” after American troops withdrew from the Afghanistan region.

    The article raised eyebrows at the conservative peer Lord Hannan for calling Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), “a towering figure.”

    Bennett further questioned Imran’s controversial statements on rape, that women should remove “temptation” because “not everyone has willpower.”

    She wrote, “The appointment is for a decade. Khan is months into his latest 14-year sentence, and the Oxford job involves, along with administrative duties, presiding over several key ceremonies. The chancellor must be readily accessible and available throughout the year.”

    An amusing situation arose in the Pakistan Senate on Friday when during a session on terrorism, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senator Dost Mohammad Khan said: “If you want to end terrorism, then release Imran Khan because he is an expert in terrorism.”

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Irfan Siddiqui, who was presiding over the session in the absence of the Chairman Senate and his deputy, intervened to correct the PTI Senator’s statement, saying he probably meant that Imran Khan was an “expert in eliminating terrorism.”

    However, Dost remained unaware of his slip of the tongue and responded: “You are from the opposing party; that’s why you are saying this, sir.”

    After this, PTI leaders Shibli Faraz and Mohsin Aziz tried their best to clarify the situation with the PTI senator but were unsuccessful.

    PTI’s Shibli Faraz tried to explain in Pashto but he too failed to convince Dost Muhammad Khan.

    Prime Minister’s Advisor for Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has been approached by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) to negotiate with Chairman Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami party Mahmood Khan Achakzai, a source told Geo News.

    Achakzai has been approached to counsel the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) top leadership on direct negotiation and requested that PTI should appoint a committee that can discuss this behind the scenes.

    Earlier, former Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan along with PTI leadership had tasked Achakzai to negotiate with the incumbent government to achieve “political stability” in the country and to get back the party’s “stolen mandate.”

    Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar Khan had announced recently that PTI is not in favour of direct negotiations with Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
