    KP government rises up to help Punjab farmers

    Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Friday started the process of buying wheat from Punjabi farmers at the rate of Rs 3900 per 40 kgs as the wheat crisis ensues in Punjab, according to Geo News.

    An official from the Food Department told Geo that the KP government intends to buy up to 2 lac 86 thousand ton wheat crop till June 30 from Punjab farmers at the rate of Rs 3900 Kg.

    KP government has also bought 14 thousand tons of wheat from its own province’s farmers. According to official sources, up to 500,000 tons of crop can be stocked.

    The government is currently buying crops from KP cities like Peshawar, Kohat and Haripur, Geo News reported.

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier ordered an inquiry committee to investigate the import of wheat last year under caretaker setup despite abundant harvest.

    Farmers in Punjab have staged protests because the government is not buying wheat crops from them at the agreed-upon rates.

    Punjab government announces summer vacations for schools

    The Punjab government has announced the dates of annual summer vacations in public and private schools in the province, Geo reported on Friday.

    As per the notification issued by the government, vacations will be observed from June 1 to August 14 in the entire province.

    Similarly, Punjab government has also reduced school timings due to scorching temperature in multiple cities of the country.

    According to the new timings, schools will open at 7am and close at 11:30am from Monday to Thursday; however, on Friday school will open at 7am to close at 10:30am.

    The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that a heatwave is expected to hit most parts of the country, especially Punjab and Sindh, starting May 21, due to high pressure in the upper atmosphere.

    Speaker National Assembly suspends Tariq Bashir Cheema for misbehaving with Zartaj Gul

    The National Assembly (NA) session on Thursday, chaired by speaker NA Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, ended with heated arguments and important parliamentary decisions.

    Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, suspended Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) leader Tariq Bashir Cheema for today’s parliamentary session after a heated argument took place between him and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Zartaj Gul.

    The decision to suspend Cheema was taken to keep decorum and maintain parliamentary standards. 

    However, the House accepted the question raised by the NA speaker in this regard.

    Earlier, the PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) claimed that Tariq Bahir Cheema used abusive words against Zartaj Gul during the parliamentary session.

    Ayaz Sadiq also banned YouTubers, TikTokers, and media personnel from making videos in the corridors of the parliament to keep the environment peaceful.

    Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon recently stated during a press conference that the founder Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan is still a “laadla” (favourite) due to rapid speed of multiple case hearings.

    “I’m saying this very openly that there is a big plan behind the scenes,” said the PPP member.

    Memon also alleged that “Israel financially supported Khan in his election campaign and Israel is also campaigning about alleged human rights abuse in Pakistan.”

    The PPP member was of the view that in the past President Asif Ali Zardari’s cases did not get quick hearings as Khan’s do.

    He criticised the former Prime Minister for being a “small-minded person” and also stated that CM KP Ali Amin Gandapur should apologise for his wrong attitude with the Governor of KP.

    NAB chairman apologises to victims for Bureau’s past wrongdoings

    In a welcome turn of events, present National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman Lt Gen (R) Nazir Butt has started approarching those who were victimised by the watchdog to apologise for the past misdeeds of widely criticised anti-corruption institution of Pakistan.

    The NAB chairman decided to sooth the pain of the victims by meeting them personally to apologise for how the top anti-corruption body maltreated them in the past. Multiple politicians, bureaucrats, and businessmen are on the list of NAB victims.

    Nazir Butt visited family members of the NAB victim who died a few years ago due to the torment of the institution’s officials.

    NAB’s new policy is completely different from what it was doing with multiple individuals a few years ago, The News reported on Friday.

    NAB is known for what is perceived as misuse of its power. The top anti-corruption body harassed multiple individuals, including politicians, bureaucrats, and businessmen, by keeping them behind bars for several years without any solid evidence.

    Several individuals lost their lives under NAB’s harassment.

    A few years ago, a NAB victim, Brigadier Asad Munir was found dead in his home in Islamabad. A handwritten note was discovered near his body. The note read, “I request you, the honourable chief justice, to take notice of NAB’s officials conduct so that other government officials are not convicted for the crimes they have not committed.”

    Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said on Thursday that he and his wife declared their properties a decade ago. Naqvi, a media baron who became Punjab’s caretaker Chief Minister and now also holds the coveted position of Chairman, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), stressed that there is nothing new in the “Dubai unlocked” project. 

    Naqvi revealed that his wife not only owns properties in Dubai but also in the United Kingdom (UK).

    He gave a detailed response to the Dubai leaks in a press conference in Lahore after the leaked property records named several prominent personalities in Pakistan, including government officials, politicians, military generals, and other individuals.

    He also said that it is necessary for the national media to report about major developments, but portraying that someone owned property with illegal means is wrong.
    The former caretaker chief minister of Punjab also stated that he was not in any official position 10 to 12 years ago, but he had properties at that time as well.

    The Supreme Court (SC) has started proceedings in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) amendments case as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan appeared before the bench via video link to present his arguments, Geo reported today. 

    Earlier in the day, arrangements were completed at Adiala jail on the order of the SC for the appearance of the PTI founder via video link.

    The Adiala jail administration informed the former prime minister about his appearance via video link in today’s hearing. The staff of the SC and jail authorities tested the video link before Khan’s appearance.

    A day earlier, Khan’s lawyers, Khawaja Haris and Intezar Panjutha, met him shortly in Adiala jail after the top court’s order to the federal and Punjab governments to give video link facility to incarcerated politician.

    “The PTI founder can present his arguments in the upcoming hearing via video link if he wishes to do so […] arrangements should be made for the presentation of arguments via video link,” Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa had said Tuesday.

    Imran Khan gets bail in £190 million settlement case

    The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday approved founder Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan’s bail plea in the £190 million National Crime Agency (NCA) settlement reference.

    A two-member bench, comprising IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, heard the petition and reserved the verdict a day earlier.

    The IHC said in its order today to release the former prime minister against surety bonds of Rs 1 million.

    The verbal orders were announced today in open court; however, the detailed verdict will be issued later.

    On the other hand, the PTI founder can’t be released until the suspension of his sentence in cipher and iddat cases.

    The former prime minister has been facing multiple charges, including corruption and terrorism, since being ousted via a no-confidence motion in April 2022.

    Court acquits Khan in two May 9 vandalism cases

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was cleared of charges in two cases related to vandalism on May 9.

    Judicial Magistrate Sahib Bilal issued the acquittal order for the former prime minister.

    Both cases against Khan were filed at the Khanna police station in Islamabad.

    The Judicial Magistrate approved Khan’s acquittal plea due to insufficient evidence in the cases against him.

    The cases were registered against the PTI founder in 2022 for  long march and violation of Article 144.

    During an appearance on Nida Yasir, Danish Nawaz, and Yasir Nawaz’s show, ‘Nadan Maizban,’ actor Faysal Qureshi shared which actors he wants to work with again. When asked who he thinks he has the best on-screen chemistry with, the Bashar Momin actor quickly said, “I always enjoy working with Naumaan Ijaz.” He also admitted, “I get intimidated acting opposite Naumaan.”


    Talking about his female co-stars, Faysal said, “I enjoyed working with Zara Noor Abbas. I only did two scenes with her because she didn’t continue with that drama.” He added, “Madiha Imam joined the team, and I saw Zara’s acting. She was amazing. Madiha is also very good.”


    Qureshi mentioned other talented actors he’s worked with. “I worked with Ushna Shah in Bashar Momin and Bheegi Palkain, and she was brilliant. Iqra Aziz is phenomenal. Sajal is excellent. Faryal Mehmood is also very good.”

    During the same interview, Faysal said he enjoys comedies more than other genres. He explained, “Coincidentally, all three of my ongoing dramas have me playing a negative character. If I play too much of the same thing, I stop enjoying it. I think comedy feels like a paid vacation. Serious characters can be draining.”


    Faysal also shared how he keeps his personal and acting life separate, especially after playing intense roles. He said, “By the time I go home, I’ve already forgotten the day’s dialogues and I don’t know the next day’s either. If we need to reshoot scenes, the set assistants remind me that we just shot the same scene yesterday, but I don’t remember. I still ask to read the script.”
