Ex-PM Imran calls on India to ‘act responsibly’

Former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan on Tuesday suggested that India must act responsibly in the “nuclear flashpoint” region as the two arch-rivals countries face-off amidst warmongering from Indian media.

A statement posted on Imran Khan’s official X (formerly Twitter) account reads, “Being a country of 1.5 billion people, India needs to act responsibly instead of messing with a region already known as ‘nuclear flashpoint’.”

Reportedly, Imran Khan told the substance of the statement to his lawyers during a meeting at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

He recalled that when he was the Prime Minister in 2019, following the “false flag operation incident” in Pulwama in February of that year, his government had offered to extend all-out cooperation to India.

“However, India failed to produce any concrete evidence. As I predicted in 2019, the same is happening again after the Pahalgam incident. Instead of introspection and investigation, Modi Sarkar is again placing the blame on Pakistan,” he said.

Maintaining that peace is the priority of the country, he cautioned that it should not be mistaken for cowardice. “Pakistan has got all the capabilities to give a befitting response to any Indian misadventure, as My Government, backed by the whole nation, did in 2019,” he claimed.

Imran Khan reiterated that India, led by RSS ideology, is a grave threat beyond the region. “Narendra Modi’s aggression has united the people of Pakistan in one voice against Indian hostility… we stand firmly as one Pakistani nation and strongly condemn Modi’s war-mongering and his dangerous ambitions that threaten regional peace,” he added.

“Indian oppression in Kashmir, intensified after the illegal abrogation of Article 370, has further fueled the Kashmiri people’s desire for freedom.”

Separately, the United States (US) State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said on Tuesday that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to speak with the foreign ministers of both India and Pakistan.

“We are reaching out to both parties, and telling them of course not to escalate the situation. The secretary is expected to speak with the foreign minister of Pakistan and India as early as today or tomorrow,” the State Department spokesperson said when a journalist posed a question during the press briefing.

Following the Pahalgam incident, without providing verifiable evidence, India has attempted to link Pakistan to the attack. Pakistan has firmly denied the allegations and has offered to participate in a neutral and transparent international investigation.

Bruce said that the Secretary of State is also encouraging other foreign ministers and national leaders to reach out to the nuclear-armed arch rivals in a bid to diffuse tensions, adding that action is being taken every day.

Imran Khan ‘glad’ he got rid of Sher Afzal Marwat: reports

Days after former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member Sher Afzal Marwat made several allegations against Aleema Khan, sister of former premier Imran Khan, the latter has expressed relief over his removal from the party.

“Thankfully, we got rid of Sher Afzal Marwat,” media reports quoted Khan as saying after the former PTI leader’s allegations against Aleema Khan.

Sher Afzal Marwat on Friday levelled a series of allegations against Aleema Khan, accusing her of orchestrating a trolling campaign against him and an abusive campaign against his late parents through social media.

“I was nominated in 57 FIRs [First Information Reports], two of my houses were demolished and I went to jail. Yesterday, my dead parents were subjected to an abusive campaign,” Marwat said while appearing on a private media outlet, adding that all this was being done despite all the sacrifices he had made for the party.

He alleged that Aleema was orchestrating the trolling and abusive campaign as “she is the social media boss”.

Claiming that her behaviour had always been “bossy” towards party leaders, Marwat alleged that PTI members also suffered “extremely inhumane treatment” at her hands.

He further claimed that when he complained to the PTI founder about Aleema’s behaviour, Imran Khan, in the presence of 29 party bigwigs, said that “nobody will answer Aleema’s phone as she has nothing to do with party matters”.

“Following the complaint, she openly came against me,” Marwat said, adding that since then, the PTI social media team as well as supporters like Shahbaz Gill and Imran Riaz Khan had been trolling him.

Recalling an incident of Aleema’s alleged attitude, Marwat said that during Ramzan, she summoned a party meeting at the Central Secretariat. “Barrister Gohar told Aleema that he had to go attend an iftar, to which she said, ‘You can’t even move’.”

In a meeting with his lawyers at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, it was reported that Imran Khan, while expressing reservations about the Mines and Minerals Bill 2025, summoned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur for the meeting regarding the bill.

Media reports further claimed that Imran Khan sent a message to the party leadership, urging them to end all disputes [among party members] with a stern message for Chairman PTI, Barrister Gohar, over his apologetic attitude.

The former prime minister also reportedly stated that the government had delayed talks with Afghanistan for far too long, adding that KP is a province suffering from terrorism. He instructed PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja to write a letter to the Chief Justice regarding the non-implementation of the rule of law.

PTI activist charged with threats, violence against Sharif family in London

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Gulfam Hussain has been charged with issuing threats to the members of the Sharif family as well as carrying out violent acts against them in London, Geo News reported.

The report quoted sources as claiming that the PTI activist had been taken into police custody as the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) charged him. The action came after Hussain was apprehended four days ago for breaching police conditions and going near the Sharif family flats on the day former premier Nawaz Sharif reached London.

He will appear in court within the next two days, the report quoted sources as claiming.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) United Kingdom (UK) Youth Wing leader Khurram Butt, the same person who had previously petitioned Oxford University against former prime minister Imran Khan’s bid to become the chancellor, is the original complainant.

“Gulfam has been charged by the CPS. The CPS has confirmed that Hussain has been charged with violence, stalking and harassment. This sends out a clear message that anyone involved in violence will be brought to justice. I had provided the full trail of evidence to the police, showing involvement of Hussain in violence, stalking, harassment and threats,” Butt said.

Hussain, who had defected from the PML-N to join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) last year, had also been running a social media campaign against the members of the Sharif family. He used to go live on TikTok every day and had quit his job as a trained chef to focus on live social media shows.

On January 17, police had arrested him for threatening to harm PM Shehbaz Sharif, ex-PM Nawaz and other members of the Sharif family, including a threat to blow up the Park Lane flats — live on TikTok.

Scotland Yard had later released Hussain on bail; however, it had banned him from going anywhere near the Avenfield flats.

“The police have banned me from going near the Sharif family’s Avenfield flats or I will be arrested again. I am on bail till April. The police arrested and showed me videos I uploaded on TikTok. These were political statements. I don’t believe in violence. I will continue my struggle,” he had told Geo News after his release.

Not authorized anyone to engage in negotiations with establishment: Imran Khan

Founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, has claimed that he has not authorised anyone to engage in negotiations with the establishment, hours after the Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Ali Amin Gandapur, stated that Imran Khan is willing to negotiate.

The statement posted on Khan’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday read, “I have not authorised anyone to engage in negotiations with the establishment. I have never struck a deal in the past, nor will I entertain one now.”

CM Gandapur, while speaking to a joint general house of the Lahore High Court Bar Association and the Lahore Bar Association on Thursday, claimed, “Imran Khan is ready for dialogue not because he wants power or the prime minister’s chair, but because he dreams of building a proud, independent nation.”

The former prime minister revealed that two years ago, he was offered complete impunity from legal action in exchange for two years of silence. “I rejected it then, and I reject any such notion now,” he said.

He maintained that CM KP Gandapur and senior party leader Azam Swati’s desire for negotiations with the establishment is pointless. “…I have always maintained and reiterated that as a political party, we have no objection to dialogue. The doors to negotiations were never closed. But let me be clear: any talks must be grounded in the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law, and the interests of the people—not in any personal arrangement for myself or my wife,” he added.

Regarding the Mines and Minerals Bill 2025, Imran Khan instructed that no further action be taken until Gandapur and KP’s senior political leadership deliver a comprehensive and transparent briefing on the bill.

On meeting with his family and close associates in jail, he said that his sisters and legal counsel have been denied their legal right to meet him for the past month.

“I am not allowed phone calls with my children, and even my personal physician is barred from access. I have now directed the legal committee to file a contempt of court petition without delay against the prison administration,” he said.

Regarding Afghan refugees’ repatriation, Imran Khan claimed that a formal resolution must be tabled in the KP Assembly demanding an extension in the repatriation timeline for Afghan refugees.

He called on the federal government to grant KP the authority to engage directly with the Afghan administration, noting that KP has borne the brunt of terrorism and must be allowed to address it proactively.

  • Gandapur urges party leader to avoid criticism that hurts jailed Imran Khan

Gandapur urges party leader to avoid criticism that hurts jailed Imran Khan

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has urged members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to avoid making any statements that could potentially harm jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Speaking at an event organised by the Lahore High Court (LHC) Bar today (Thursday), Gandapur delivered a fiery speech, saying, “I want to say one thing to PTI: do not level any criticism that harms your cause or your leader.”

Advising his party members to unite and confront their opponents, he said, “As we say in Pashto: either I’ll break my head or I’ll break the mountain. We are nearing victory. Imran Khan will be among us very soon. Imran Khan is the voice of the nation. Nobody dares to suppress his voice.”

The CM, while alleging that last year’s election was rigged, said, “The rigging in the 2024 elections is proof that they [the establishment] don’t want elected representatives; they want selected ones.”

Gandapur emphasised, “We have ended corruption in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and collected the money,” claiming, “KP is the richest province of Pakistan today.”

He added that Imran Khan is willing to negotiate—not for himself, but for the sake of Pakistan—and questioned how long the former prime minister would remain imprisoned. “He wants the rule of law in the country,” Gandapur stated.

His remarks came a week after senior PTI leader Azam Khan Swati claimed that the party founder, Imran Khan, had agreed to hold negotiations.

Speaking to reporters outside an anti-terrorism court in Lahore, Swati said that Khan is deeply concerned about the country’s future and the well-being of future generations.

“The entire nation now stands with the PTI founder,” he stated, adding that any dialogue that takes place would be productive once it begins.

However, following Swati’s statement regarding negotiations, PTI distanced itself, with the party’s Secretary General, Salman Akram Raja, stating that such actions are not sanctioned by the party leadership.

“The claims of a deal between Azam Swati and the establishment have no connection with PTI. He is speaking in his personal capacity,” said Raja.

Did US delegation talk to govt about Imran? Ayaz Sadiq has the details

Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has shared details of his recent meeting with a three-member US Congressional delegation. The delegation arrived on Saturday on a weeklong visit to Pakistan.

Speaking to media in Islamabad today (Tuesday), Ayaz Sadiq, in response to a question asking whether the US delegation talked about meeting the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, said that the US delegation “did not even mention Imran Khan.”

“I can say with full confidence that as they [US delegation] were leaving, they categorically stated they have no connection to Pakistan’s internal politics,” the speaker of the National Assembly claimed.

Ayaz Sadiq further said that he had invited PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and Malik Mohammad Amir Dogar to a dinner during the meeting with the US delegation, emphasising that it was an opportunity for PTI leaders to sit and talk with the Americans “from whom they seek help.”

Additionally, Ayaz Sadiq stated that no one can be forced to sit and talk about issues [between political parties]. “I had called Akhtar Mengal (Chief Balochistan National Party-Mengal)…. and was also in contact with Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s party (JUI-F),” he added.

Moreover, Ayaz Sadiq said that Turkiye has organized a conference on the ongoing situation in Gaza, where a few speakers have been invited. “I will attend the Gaza conference and present Pakistan’s stance,” he added.

He concluded by saying that as Pakistan speaks up for Kashmir, it is also raising its voice for Palestine, lamenting that children and women are being martyred in Palestine, and the Muslim Ummah has not played the role it should have.

  • ‘Imran Khan clarified he did not call Asad Qaiser a conspirator,’ claims PTI leader

‘Imran Khan clarified he did not call Asad Qaiser a conspirator,’ claims PTI leader

A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, after meeting party founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, has said that Imran Khan clarified that he did not call former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser, former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) minister Muhammad Atif Khan, or lawmaker Shahram Khan Tarakai ‘conspirators’, a leading Urdu daily newspaper reported today (Thursday).

While urging party leaders to stop blaming each other, Imran Khan warned that further controversial statements would result in disciplinary action, said the party leader.

The clarification comes days after Chief Minister (CM) KP Ali Amin Gandapur’s recent statement sparked controversy among PTI leaders.

During a podcast with journalist Irshad Bhatti on Friday, Gandapur, while responding to a question about not awarding provincial assembly tickets to Qaiser, Atif Khan and Tarakai, had remarked, “Khan Sahab instructed us to not award MPA tickets to Atif, Shahram and Asad Qaiser. I had received an indirect message that they are conspirators.”

Gandapur said that as he was informed that the three conspired, he was instructed not to let them enter KP’s assembly.

Following the remarks, Qaiser took no time to express disappointment over Gandapur’s statement and asked the party to investigate the charges.

The former speaker of the national assembly wrote, “I demand from the party’s central leadership that a thorough investigation be conducted into the recent statement of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and that Chairman Imran Khan’s position in this regard be brought before the nation,” adding that he reserves the right to respond to Gandapur’s statement; however, in the current circumstances, he considers it necessary for the country and the founding Chairman of PTI Imran Khan to avoid such things.

“At this time, all our attention should be focused on the release of Imran Khan and other innocent prisoners. The struggle for Imran Khan’s release should not be weakened by inflaming internal party issues through unnecessary statements. The Chief Minister should focus all his energies on better governance, restoration of law and order in the province, and the struggle for the release of Imran Khan and other innocent prisoners,” he further wrote.

Tarakai, in a social media post, also demanded inquiry into the matter, claiming that he reserved the right to respond to the CM’s statement; however, he added that such a course of action would damage the party in the current situation.

“All efforts to weaken Khan Sahib and the party will fail. A leader keeps people together, does not divide them for personal ego or desire,” Tarakai said.

  • Heated debate between Barrister Gohar, Salman Raja at KP House, claims journalist

Heated debate between Barrister Gohar, Salman Raja at KP House, claims journalist

Journalist Haider Sherazi claimed on Wednesday that a heated debate occurred between Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Barrister Gohar Khan and Secretary General Salman Akram Raja at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) House, Islamabad on Tuesday when the latter said that there should have been an expression of solidarity with the party founder’s sister for not letting them visit Adiala Jail earlier in the week.

Appearing on a private news channel, the journalist said that in response to Raja’s claims, Gohar stated that Imran Khan was being regularly visited in jail by party leaders in the past, and Raja’s name was not on the list on several occasions, yet he still managed to meet Imran Khan; therefore, this matter should not be brought under discussion.

On Tuesday, Imran Khan’s sisters were barred from meeting her brother at Adiala Jail. However, Barrister Gohar, Barrister Ali Zafar, Zaheer Abbas, and other lawyers were allowed to enter the jail, media reports had earlier claimed.

Meanwhile, as per a leading English newspaper, despite the names of Barrister Gohar and Ali Zafar not being included in the list handed over to Adiala jail authorities, both visited Imran Khan. To this, some PTI members raised objections.

Following Raja’s word ‘Manzoor-e-Nazar’ (favorite), purportedly used for Senator Ali Zafar, the latter expressed regret over the remarks. The Senator, while talking to media outside Islamabad High Court (IHC) had claimed that Raja’s comments regarding the meeting with the founder of the PTI have created a new controversy.

In a conversation with the media at Parliament House on Wednesday, Gohar, while calling Ali Zafar “an honest man”, stressed, “I want to unite the party, even if I have to leave my position. I express serious reservations about the word Manzoor-e-Nazar.”

The PTI secretary general told journalists that it was decided with everyone’s consent that he would give six names of lawyers, whereas on Tuesday, the names of the six lawyers he gave were not allowed as only Manzoor-e-Nazar were allowed to meet Imran Khan.

The PTI Secretary General said that Imran Khan had not called anyone on Tuesday as he had spoken to the family, and they were fine. Raja categorically cleared that in the future, anyone whose name was not on the list should not meet Imran Khan.

  • Journalist claims Azam Swati urged Imran Khan to allow dialogue ’15-20 times’

Journalist claims Azam Swati urged Imran Khan to allow dialogue ’15-20 times’

Journalist Fahad Shehbaz Khan claimed on Monday that senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Azam Swati, during his visit to Adiala Jail on Eid day, asked former Prime Minister Imran Khan 15-20 times to give him permission for dialogue with the establishment.

In a video statement, the journalist said that in the 30-minute meeting, Swati emphasized that the path of reconciliation must be followed.

Fahad further claimed that Swati, while listing his sacrifices to Imran Khan, said that he personally bore the expenses of 1,100 prisoners — from cigarettes to food. “I treated the imprisoned boys in jails like my own sons,” the journalist quoted Swati as saying.

Fahad stated that Swati complained to Imran Khan that the latter had awarded party posts to an individual who used to refer to him and his father with derogatory names. “There was also one personality present in the conference room meeting at Adiala Jail along with Swati. On every concern that Swati raised, Imran Khan told the individual what to do,” said the journalist.

Touching upon the 26th Constitutional Amendment and the February 8 general election, Imran Khan said that he knows the incumbent government better than Swati, said the journalist, adding that Imran Khan informed the leader that the government would use delaying tactics [regarding dialogue].

“Even in the final moments, when Azam Swati was leaving the meeting, he was saying to Imran Khan, ‘Give me permission for negotiations,’ to which Imran Khan replied, ‘You’ve already tried twice before,’” said the journalist.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan confirmed that he instructed Swati to initiate dialogue with the military establishment, The News reported on Wednesday (today).

On Tuesday, while speaking to party leaders and lawyers during a meeting at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail, the former premier emphasised that the outreach was not related to his legal cases but was done solely for the sake of Pakistan.

As per the report, Imran Khan told his visitors that he has never closed the door on dialogue with the establishment. However, he clarified that his party had ceased talks with the current government, which he described as lacking any real authority.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Senator Ali Zafar and lawyers Zaheer Abbas, Mubashar Awan, and Ali Imran were the visitors at Adiala Jail yesterday. However, Aleema Khan, along with his sisters, was barred from meeting her brother in jail.

In response to Swati’s recent video statement, Imran Khan was quoted as saying, “This is about Pakistan, democracy, the rule of law, and respecting the people’s mandate.”

Swati, in a video statement, had earlier revealed that the party founder had directed him to engage with the establishment while keeping the nature of the discussions confidential.

  • PTI leader meets jailed Imran Khan on Eid, asks for ticket in return for all ‘sacrifices’

PTI leader meets jailed Imran Khan on Eid, asks for ticket in return for all ‘sacrifices’

YouTuber Siddique Jan has claimed that a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader on Eid visited incarcerated party founder Imran Khan in jail and demanded that they be awarded a ticket for having made “several sacrifices”.

In a recent interview, Jan said the party leader told Khan he wanted to contest elections under the PTI’s banner and also requested the former premier to allot him a constituency.

“Khan Sahib, I have made several sacrifices for the party… I deserve identity and recognition,” the YouTuber, without revealing any names, quoted the party member as saying to Khan at Adiala Jail on the second day of Eid.

While he did not reveal any names, Jan clarified the leader in question was not Azam Khan Swati. When pressed by the host to name the PTI member, the YouTube told him to “check the list of visitors”.

During the interview, Jan also declared a recent tweet by absconding PTI leader and former federal minister Murad Saeed “a complete roadmap for Imran Khan’s release”.

He went on to question how many from among the party’s incumbent leadership had expressed support for the plan.

“PTI’s founder and chairman, Imran Khan, had announced the next phase of the movement after Eid. The youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who stayed at the Bani Gala and Zaman Park camps for a year and cleared the way for caravans during every major activity—braving all kinds of oppression and fascism—will, God willing, be honored at the Janisaran-e-Imran Khan Convention on April 7,” Saeed had tweeted on April 3.

The former minister had further claimed that on April 11, he would speak in detail at the grand jirga of his constituency on a two-point agenda: the release of Imran Khan, his spouse Bushra Bibi, and other leadership and workers besides the restoration of peace.

“The way Punjab came out on March 23 clearly shows that the workers in Punjab are prepared, and the way women are actively leading the movement is exemplary and a source of pride. Youth from North Punjab have been advised to continue the series of flash protests while staying focused on preparing for the next phase of the movement. A detailed action plan, which was to be shared with the youth of North Punjab on Friday as per the scheduled program, could not be shared—but God willing, progress on that will also follow soon,” he had added.
