    Bollywood actor Swara Bhasker has married political activist Fahad Ahmed on __ in a court wedding. The actress shared pictures of the wedding on her Twitter account, showing the couple with her parents and loved ones.
    She put up a picture of herself signing the papers with her husband and revealed that she had gotten married under the Special Marriage Act.

    “Three cheers for the #SpecialMarriageAct (despite notice period etc.) At least it exists & gives love a chance… The right to love, the right to choose your life partner, the right to marry, the right to agency these should not be a privilege.”

    In another tweet, the actress revealed she had worn her mother’s sari and jewelry for the special occasion.

    Bhaskar has also addressed why she opted for a simple wedding despite the recent spate of lavish celebrity weddings like Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani. In an op-ed for The Week, the actress readers that weddings are a promise to remain faithful to each other rather than an opportunity to gain sponsorship or likes on Instagram.

    ‘The social media-fuelled wedding mania has also led to a fundamental shift in our fiscal values. This is a shift that consumer capitalism enabled EMI culture of ‘work hard, spend big’ has already engendered in the millennial generation, but the fantasy wedding craze generates a whole other set of fiscal habits. And, these are not very healthy!’

    Shrayana Bhattacharya, the author of “Desperately Seeking Shah Rukh Khan”, tweeted a few days ago about her fondness for singer Hasan Raheem and his song Peanut Butter. She also hoped that he would perform at a concert in India some day.

    Yesterday, Bhattacharya tweeted a picture of Raheem holding up her book, and wrote about how much this had moved her.

    On her Instagram stories, the author also shared the special note she had sent to Raheem:

    Raheem later sent Shrayana a message, thanking her for the wholesome gift and promised that he would definitely perform in India some day!

    In an Instagram post, he said that he is providing dating services to unmarried ladies to alleviate loneliness during Valentine’s Week. He further stated that his goals are not commercial or physical in nature.

    Shakul revealed that he began offering dating services to ladies approximately 5 years ago and that he has gone on over 50 dates with women and has enjoyed spending time with them.

    BBC India office raided by tax official after airing documentary on Modi

    Indian tax authorities raided BBC’s New Delhi offices on Tuesday, weeks after it aired a documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s role in the deadly riots of 2002 in the western state of Gujarat.

    A BBC employee based in the office told AFP that the tax raid was in progress and that officials were “confiscating all phones”.

    Police were at the BBC’s office in the centre of the capital to prevent people from entering or leaving, an AFP journalist at the scene reported.

    “A government procedure is happening inside the office,” an official said, declining to disclose which department he was from.

    Last month, the broadcaster aired a two-part documentary alleging that the then-Chief Minister Modi ordered police to turn a blind eye to the riots. The violence left at least 1,000 people dead, most of them minority Muslims.

    Government adviser Kanchan Gupta had slammed the documentary as “hostile propaganda and anti-India garbage”.

    Earlier, the Indian foreign ministry dismissed the news as “propaganda”.

    According to the documentary, the inquiry team assessed that Modi had prevented the police from acting to stop the violence targeted against Muslims, stating that he had specifically ordered law-enforcing authorities not to intervene. The documentary also features a former top UK diplomat who says that the violence had been planned by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)

    Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson for the foreign ministry, has termed the BBC documentary a “propaganda piece”.

    India’s government blocked videos and tweets sharing links to the documentary soon after its release, calling it “hostile propaganda and anti-India garbage”.

    Indian doctor Sudhir Kumar has shared details of a case on Twitter where a woman began suffering from vision impairment for one and a half year. Her symptoms included seeing bright flashes of light, dark zig zag lines and some times, the inability to see or focus on objects.
    In a lengthy Twitter thread, he said that the 30 year old woman had quit her job as a beautician to take care of her specially-abled son, which is when she picked up the habit of scrolling through her phone for several hours at night with the lights switched off.

    “I reviewed the history. Symptoms had started after she quit her job of a beautician in order to take care of her specially abled child. She picked up a new habit of browsing through her smartphone for several hours daily, including >2 hours at nights with lights switched of.”

    After this, the doctor revealed that it was clearly a case of ‘smartphone vision syndrome’ which occurs after long term usage of tablets, phones or computers which can cause disabling optical symptoms.

    “The diagnosis was obvious now. She was suffering from smartphone vision syndrome (SVS). Long-term use of devices such as computer, smartphones or tablets can cause various eye-related disabling symptoms, referred to as computer vision syndrome (CVS) or digital vision syndrome.”

    The doctor had advised the woman to reduce her use of phones and only use it when it is completely necessary. Now, 18 months later the woman’s eyesight has been restored and she no longer sees flashes of light or zig zag lines.

    Using this case as an example, he advised his followers to reduce phone usage to take care of their bodies better. His two reminders were:

    1 Take 20-second break, every 20 min, to look at something 20 feet away, while using a digital screen (20-20-20 rule).

    2 Avoid looking at screens of digital devices for long, as it can cause severe and disabling vision-related problems.

    An appeal signed by The Animal Welfare Board of India has encouraged people to hug cows on Valentine’s Day, suggesting that it will bring about “emotional richness” and “increase individual and collective happiness.”

    Calling cows the backbone of Indian culture and rural economy, the organisation has emphasized how the mammal sustains life, represents cattle wealth and biodiversity. “It is known as ‘kamdhenu’ and ‘gaumata’ because of its nourishing nature like a mother, the giver of all providing [sic] riches to humanity.
    Vedic traditions are almost on the verge of extinction due to the progress of west [sic] culture over time. The dazzle of western civilization has made our physical culture and heritage almost forgotten.
    In view of the immense benefits of the cow, hugging [the] cow will bring emotional richness hence will increase our individual and collective happiness. Therefore, all the cow lovers may also celebrate February 14 as Cow Hug Day, keeping in mind the importance of the mother cow and making life happy and full of positive energy. This [was] issued with the approval of competent authority and on the direction of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.”

    As soon as this news began circulating on social media, #CowHugDay started to trend both in Pakistan and India, and for once users from both countries began to bond over the pointlessness of politics.

    ‘Miracle moment’: Indian man walking to Makkah reaches Pakistan after waiting months for visa

    A 29-year-old Indian man named Shihab Chottur arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday through the Wagah border during his journey to Makkah to perform the Hajj.
    The Keralite had begun his walking 8,640-kilometer trek from Malappuram on June 2, 2022. He had been waiting for a Pakistani visa in Amritsar since the previous four months in order to continue his journey. .

    Shihab has so far walked 3,300km, covering seven states from Kerala to Punjab.
    In September last year, he was denied entry to Pakistan since there is no agreement between New Delhi and Islamabad about transit visas for people travelling on foot.

    Chottur decided to remain in a school in Amritsar while he awaited the visa.


    He was granted a two-day transit visa for Lahore and is presently in Pakistan.

    While sharing videos on his instagram, Chottur wrote, “Miracle Moment” to describe his arrival in Pakistan.

    According to Indian news outlets, the student, Shankar, entered the exam center and started writing. However, Shankar got nervous and fainted. He also suffered a fracture in his arm after falling from his chair.

    Shankar has said that he was nervous because he was the only boy in the examination room while the remaining 500 were female students.

    He said that he felt nervous and fainted at the thought of finishing the exam as the lone male among hundreds of female students.

    Former United States (US) Secretary of State Mike Pompeo revealed on Tuesday in his new memoir that arch rivals— India and Pakistan— were on the verge of nuclear war in February 2019.

    Pompeo, who served in President Donald Trump’s tenure, has written in ‘Never Give an Inch: Fighting for America I Love’ that he does “not think the world properly knows just how close the India-Pakistan rivalry came to spilling over into a nuclear conflagration in February 2019.”

    He says at the time, he was informed by his Indian counter-partner that Pakistan had begun to prepare for a nuclear strike on India. However, he asked him to give it some time to sort out the matter. Later, he reached out to Pakistani former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Qamar Javed Bajwa.

    The ex-army chief told Pompeo that Indian allegations were baseless. He believed the Indians were preparing their nuclear weapons for deployment.

    Moreover, the former US official said that it took them a few hours and remarkably good work by their teams on the ground in New Delhi and Islamabad to convince both countries to desist.

    In February 2019, Delhi launched strikes to attack Pakistan after a militant attack on Indian troops in Kashmir. However, Pakistan shot down two Indian military jets and captured a fighter pilot who later was released.

    In 1974, India became the first country in the region to become a nuclear power while Pakistan attained nuclear power in 1998.

    It is pertinent to mention that neither India nor Pakistan has commented so far on Pompeo’s claims.

    A bride in India called off her wedding after her groom failed at a basic mathematics test. Rita Singh of Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh, called off her wedding after the groom failed to count a few Rs 10 rupee notes.


    The incident happened after the girl’s family was informed about the groom’s behaviour by the officiating priest. The moment the family became aware of the groom’s peculiar behaviour, they decided to test him.


    He was given 30 notes of Rs. 10 and told to count them. However, he failed to complete the task.


    For the bride, that was the deciding factor. The 21-year-old walked out of the ceremony, calling off the marriage.
