‘Impressed by Mian Sb’s manners, marrying into a prominent family’; Rohale Asghar gushes over granddaughter’s upcoming wedding to Junaid Safdar

Preparations are underway for the second marriage of Junaid Safdar, son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, with the wedding  scheduled to take place in January 2026.

Former National Assembly member Shaikh Rohale Asghar confirmed in a recent interview that Junaid is going to marry his granddaughter Shanzey Ali Rohale.

He said that Shanzey is a close friend of Maryam Nawaz’s younger daughter, Mahnoor, and that frequent interactions between the two families eventually led to the match. According to sources that The Current talked to, Mahnoor is currently studying at a private high school, while Shanzey is her best friend.

Rohale Asghar said the proposal was first conveyed through his son, adding that he viewed it as “truly Allah’s blessing,” as it meant that “our daughter would be going into such a prominent family,” prompting them to proceed with formal discussions. Describing his granddaughter, he said Shanzey is “like a doll, very delicate and lovely.”

He said that Maryam Nawaz later visited his home along with her elder daughter and son-in-law. Subsequently, a message was received from former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, following which the family visited his residence.

Recalling the meeting, Rohale Asghar said Nawaz Sharif invited them to sit together for tea and was “extremely gracious.”

He added that his wife, who is not politically inclined, was particularly in awe, saying that she was “genuinely impressed by his manners and character.”

Rohale Asghar said the marriage discussions were finalised around two to three months ago. He confirmed that wedding events will take place on January 16, 17 and 18, but revealed that the celebrations would be private, with only close family members in attendance.

He added that the mehndi and walima will be held at Jati Umrah, while the barat reception is scheduled to take place at Lake City Golf Club.

Junaid Safdar is getting married for the second time. He has been divorced from his former wife Ayesha Saif since October 2023. The couple had married in 2021 in London during Nawaz Sharif’s period of exile.

‘Not focusing on PM or CM slot’: Maryam Nawaz

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice-President and Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz has clarified that she is not interested in becoming the prime minister (PM) or the chief minister (CM).

“My focus is not on prime minister or chief minister slot,” Maryam categorically said during an informal interaction with journalists on Sunday.

Maryam also said that for now, Junaid Safder — her son — also had no intention of joining politics. “Junaid has to take responsibility for his home first,” she said on a lighter note.

Earlier, Maryam reportedly stopped her husband—Captain (retired) Safdar—from delivering any ‘policy statement’ after he criticised party leadership.

The senior vice president made it clear that no party leader, including her husband, should give any statement that goes against the party’s policy.

She also warned the party that strict action would be taken against those who deviate from the directives.

Safdar had said in an interview with ARY News that he doesn’t see his wife becoming the Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan in the near future.

“I don’t see Maryam Nawaz becoming PM in near future”, Captain Safdar said, adding that if PM Shehbaz Sharif gets elected in 2025, the country will prosper.

‘Sharifs’ political dynasty’: PML-N is upset over Maryam Nawaz’s appointment as senior vice president

Leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) are reportedly not happy with the recent appointment of Maryam Nawaz as the party’s senior vice president.

According to a report in The News, it is being said that there has been no consultation within the party before this decision was taken.

A senior PML-N leader told the media outlet on condition of anonymity that, “This decision is undemocratic and is aimed at furthering the Sharifs’ political dynasty.”

One of the PML-N leaders said that the Sharif family or those closely associated with them have the first right to hold every key position whether within the party or in the government.

Not only this, many in the party think that PML-N leaders Khawaja Saad Rafique and Malik Ahmad Khan would have been a much better choice for the office of Punjab chief minister but the Sharif family decided in favour of one of their own-Hamza Shehbaz, the son of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

With his appointment, Maryam is now the third most senior in party ranks after her father Nawaz Sharif and uncle Shehbaz Sharif.

According to a PML-N leader, even Junaid Safdar, the son of Maryam Nawaz, is being propagated by the party’s social media team as the future of the N-League. However, he has not joined politics yet.
