    24 years after her death, Nazia Hassan remains the ultimate pop icon

    Nazia Hassan was a talented singer who amazed fans with her powerful voice and energetic performances. The Aap Jaisa koi singer was born on 3 April, 1965 in Karachi.

    Nazia Hassan with her first song, ‘Aap Jaisa Koi,’ which turned her into an overnight star.


    Her debut album, ‘Disco Deewane’, released in the year 1981, the music was a huge hit. It sold a record number of copies and was loved by people in 14 countries.


    Other famous songs by Nazia include Boom Boom, Dil Ki Lagi, Aankehin Churanay Walay and Dosti, which for a long time appeared on the top spots on the music charts. Nazia Hassan also got the title of Queen of Pop.


    Nazia Hassan won many awards during her time, including Pakistan’s highest civilian award for doing her significant work in music, the Pride of Performance. She had the pride of almost being the youngest ever Pakistani singer, at only 15, to also receive the prestigious Filmfare award for the song Aap Jaisa Koi.


    Tragically, Nazia Hassan passed away on August 13, 2000, after a brave fight against lung cancer. She died in London, and although her time in the spotlight was short, Nazia’s music will always be remembered for inspiring and touching lives worldwide.


    Nazia married Karachi-based businessman Mirza Ishtiaq Baig on March 30, 1995.


    Her brother Zoheb Hassan was also a singer and music composer; the two siblings, therefore, collaborated on a number of music projects. Zoheb was a major part of Nazia’s music career and was, in fact, a co-producer for many of her music albums.

    More than 35 planes at Karachi Airport have become junk for years now, with birds laying eggs in them.

    The defunct planes have deteriorated amid a dispute over customs and CAA dues. Among the grounded planes are an Airbus 310 and two jumbo 747s, many of which have been damaged.

    Some planes belong to PIA, among other airlines, and could not be removed because of the ongoing issue.

    Reports stated that some parts of the parts have gone missing but the spokesperson clarified that these reports are not true, reports Aaj.tv.

    Zulfiqar Ahmed, the owner of Paracha textiles, Meezan Oil and Cola Next, who was kidnapped from Karachi a few days ago, has returned home in Lahore under equally mysterious circumstances.

    Geo News reported that the business magnate has contacted his family and will be with them soon.

    Interestingly, there is no information about his abductors or the whereabouts of where he was during the past few days.

    On July 23, Ahmed was abducted from the Mauripur Road in Karachi as armed men took him and his friend, Qaiser, away in a double-cabin vehicle. His friend was let go shortly after.

    However, two of his company’s senior employees were also allegedly abducted in Lahore recently. They have not yet returned.

    The Meteorological Department has shared that strong monsoon winds will likely enter Sindh on the night of July 28.

    From July 28 to July 30, rain with thunder is expected in various cities of Sindh, Tharparkar, Umarkot, Badin, Sajawal and other places of Sindh.

    There is a possibility of rain in Karachi, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad and other places from July 29 to 30, while the temperature may increase in Karachi on Sunday and Monday, likely to reach 34 to 36 degrees celsius.


    As per the predictions of weather department, it will be partly cloudy and humid in Karachi on Sunday while there is a possibility of drizzle and light rain in the city tomorrow evening or night.


    From Monday to Tuesday, Karachi will experience thunder and heavy rain in some pockets.

    Today the city is expected to remain cloudy, reports Geo.


    In the last 24 hours, the city’s minimum temperature was recorded at 29.4 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to be between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius.

    Humidity in the air is 82 percent and the sea breeze is blowing at a speed of 11 km per hour.

    ARY News has reported on Thursday that well-known businessman Zulfiqar Ahmed has allegedly gone missing in Karachi.

    Social media is peppered with images of an abandoned BMW car in the middle of a road. The car reportedly belonged to Zulfiqar Ahmed, the owner of Paracha Textiles, Meezan Oil, and Cola Next.

    According to ARY News, armed men forced Ahmed and his partner, Qaiser, into a double cabin vehicle at gunpoint on Mauripur Road in Keamari.

    Interestingly, the eyewitnesses reported that the other person, Qaiser, was released shortly after the capture.

    More importantly, the family of the abducted individual is facing challenges in filing a First Information Report (FIR) at a police station. The police have yet to file the FIR.

    A Jirga in the Manghopir area of Karachi ordered the killing of a young couple who married of their own free will, ARY News has said.

    Police sources told ARY News that the couple- identified as Saira (20) and Adil (22)- was found dead inside their home in Manghopir on Monday, and the parents of both the husband and wife gave their consent to the murder.


    “Initially, both parties refused to register the murder case,” informed the police.


    The woman identified as Saira. Her mother and maternal aunt played a key role in the dual murder.


    “The slain woman’s mother called the killers to the home. They entered the house and opened fire and also used knives in the gruesome dual murder crime,” says the police sources.


    Four 30-bore spent bullets, two coins and other things were recovered from the crime scene.


    However, Dawn reported that the victims were residents of Husain D’Silva Town in North Nazimabad. After tying the knot on their free will, they went into hiding and started living in Manghopir because the girl’s parents were against their marriage.


    Area SHO Bashir Ahmed said that it appeared that her relatives traced the couple.


    Initial investigations suggest that the couple originally hailed from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the SHO revealed.


    The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to fulfil medical and legal formalities.

    The meteorological department has predicted rain in different cities today.


    Rain may occur in some parts of Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Gujarat, Faisalabad, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today, as per the weather department.

    Battered with heat, Karachi is expected to receive rain this evening. Drizzling is expected in other areas of Sindh, such as Umarkot, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Mithi, Sanghar, Thatta, Badin, and Sjawal are also likely.


    The Meteorological Department reported that the highest rainfall was recorded yesterday (Sunday)at Old Airport, around 20 mm, while 11 mm was recorded at Sarjani Town and 9.4 mm at Jinnah Terminal. Ten mm of rain was recorded on University Road, 7 mm on Shaara Faisal, 6.5 mm on Hassan Square, 2.5 mm on PAF Base Masrur, and 0.8 mm on North Karachi.

    Rain is also likely to descend in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir today.


    The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has predicted the fourth spell of monsoon to start in Punjab from today, while south Punjab is likely to experience cloudy skies from tomorrow.

    As Karachi grapples with an intense heat wave, meteorological analyst Jawad Memon has devised a reason for the spike in temperatures, attributing the heat to humid winds and moisture from the Arabian Sea.

    Geo reports that Memon has said that instead of experiencing rain during the monsoon in Karachi, temperatures are higher than normal. The sea surface temperature of the Arabian Sea has been above normal for the past few months, absorbing more heat into the atmosphere.

    The meteorological analyst has stated that humid winds are also blowing into the city from the northeast. Due to the moist winds and moisture from the Arabian Sea, temperatures exceed 55 degrees Celsius.

    The abnormally high pressure near Iran prevents the monsoon winds from reaching Karachi, Thatta, and Badin. High pressure is expected to persist for one to two days before likely decreasing.

    The analyst also notes that light to moderate rain is expected in Karachi from July 19 to 21. After July 22, sea breezes are expected to return to normal, with a significant monsoon spell expected in Karachi in August.

    Following an invitation extended by the government and the local Bohra community, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the spiritual leader of the Bohra community, arrived in Karachi on July 4 to host ‘Ashara Mubaraka’ congregations this year.

    Over 80,000 Dawoodi Bohras from Pakistan and around the world are expected to attend the events. He delivered the first sermon of “Ashara Mubaraka” in Taheri Masjid, Saddar, on July 8.

    A Dawn report states that Syedna addressed a majlis of “over 80,000 attendees” with Bohra members from diverse areas and professions gathered in Karachi for a single purpose — the remembrance and commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Husain.

    Syedna elaborated upon a number of hadith by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) which highlight the role of conviction and self-growth in the sermon.

    For instance, he quoted the Prophet’s statement regarding the honeybee which “consumes only that which is pure, and gives back only that which is pure”.

    Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, 77, is currently serving as the 53rd al-Dai al-Mutlaq and present leader of the worldwide Dawoodi Bohra community. He is currently as a Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University.

    Bohra community trace themselves back to Fatimis who held the caliphate from 10th to 12th century.

    “A traffic police officer told me I would be fined. I replied, ‘I don’t have time to go and pay the fine, can we find middle ground?’ We settled on a deal of around two to two hundred and fifty rupees.

    Then, when the officer asked my name, I replied, ‘My name is Tabish Hashmi.”Laughing, the host said that upon hearing his name, the traffic police officer said, “Oh, you are a Hashmi, you are a Shah Sahib.” The officer returned one hundred rupees to Tabish on the basis of his name being Hashmi.“Just look at the officer’s sincerity and honesty”, Hashmi added.
