    1. Binge-watch that Show/Drama You’ve Been Meaning To Watch

    The second season of You has been released by Netflix and is not to be missed. If you haven’t seen the first season, even better. Watch the first to get hooked to the second.

    If Netflix isn’t your thing, watch the much-talked-about Meray Paas Tum Ho on ARY Digital’s YouTube. Will take you a few hours (or more) to catch up, but like the rest, you’ll be hooked.

    2. Order In

    The joy of having good food is unmatched even if you’re celebrating New Year alone. Order early so the food gets delivered on time (there are delays because many have the same idea as you). Karachi’s Famous Os pizza is a good choice for New Years Eve or Adobo (takeaway is fast and quick).

    Lahoris, try the pizza from Italian Express. It’s homey and great comfort food.

    3. Organize Family Game Night

    Your family’s your best-friend? Call them all over and have game night. Charades and Taboo are two games that are great family fun. Taboo is available at many toy stores. Or make the parents happy and play some old school Tambola.

    4. Sleep In

    The joy of this. You might feel bad because you might be the only one not updating your Instagram stories, but nothing beats a good night’s sleep.

    5. Plan a Photoshoot

    Get dressed, get the kids ready and take a bunch of beautiful shots. Check out the landscape and portrait modes on your phone and get ready to have picture perfect memories of the last day of 2019, and the decade.

    The Sindh government has imposed a ban on aerial firing, fireworks, one-wheeling and riding motorcycles without silencers on the New Year’s eve.

    Each year, hundreds of thousands of rounds of bullets are shot up into the air by celebrators to celebrate the beginning of New Year, which has taken many lives in the past year. Many citizens have also been injured from stray bullets after aerial firing.

    Sea View and Five Star Chowrangi in North Nazimabad are the two popular spots for the youth to celebrate the new year in Karachi. Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalwani appealed to the citizens to celebrate the occasion with decency and keeping in view their civic duties. K-Electric (KE) has also been advised to refrain from unnecessary power outages on the occasion.

    Here’s when and how you can observe rare solar eclipse

    On December 26th, people living in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia will witness the rare annular (ring-shaped) solar eclipse. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the solar eclipse will be visible in Pakistan as well.

    According to PMD, this rare eclipse was last witnessed in Pakistan 20 years ago. The annular solar eclipse will begin at 7:00AM and will end at 1:00PM and will be visible in Karachi, Quetta, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Gilgit.

    The annular solar eclipse is also called the ‘Ring of Fire’ because only the boundaries of the sun will be observable from behind the moon.

    In the excitement of witnessing this rare eclipse, don’t forget to take some abolutely necessary precautions.

    Those want to see the eclipse are advised not to look at the sun directly. The ultraviolet radiation from the sun can be harmful for the eyes.

    Fast bowler Naseem Shah who took a five-wicket haul in the last Test match against Sri Lanka, got emotional during a press conference while telling about how he wanted to dedicate this achievement to his mother but since she has recently passed away, he will now be dedicating it to his father.

    Naseem Shah has become the youngest fast bowler to claim five wickets in a Test match. He picked up the wickets of Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Dilruwan Perera, Lasith Embduldeniya and Vishwa Fernando to finish with 5/31 in 12.5 overs.

    Pacer Shah — aged 16 year and 311 days — has also surpassed his countryman Mohammad Amir who had in 2009 claimed five wickets against Australia at the age of 17 years 257 days at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

    Pacer Naseem’s mother had passed away in November while he was in Australia awaiting his Test debut. Shah later decided not to fly back home and stayed in Australia after consulting with his family members who advised him not to come back.

    Pakistan on Monday had claimed an historic 263-run victory in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Karachi and it took the team only three overs and just 15 minutes to wrap up the game.

    It was Pakistan’s first Test victory on home soil in over 13 years; their last victory in Pakistan also came in Karachi, against West Indies in November 2006.

    PIA hikes fares for domestic flights

    The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other private airlines have increased their fares for domestic flights.

    After the revision of fares, a one-way trip from Karachi to Lahore, Islamabad will cost Rs 35,000 and while fare from Lahore to Karachi and Quetta has been increased by Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.

    The private airlines are charging Rs 36,000 for flights bound to Rahim Yar Khan Faisalabad and Islamabad.

    An increase in fares of PIA and private airlines caused problems for the people who have planned their trips for winter vacations.

    Earlier, on May 29, the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other private airlines had increased their fares after the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had increased the fuel prices following a sharp increase in the international market and the soaring dollar.

    Karachi to get its first street library on Quaid’s birthday

    The Sindh government has decided to open a street library to promote literature on December 25, marking the birthday of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

    The government has taken a new step to support education by developing a roadside street library near Metropole that would be inaugurated on December 25.

    As per reports, the library will operate on the ‘take a book and leave a book’ basis. Commissioner Karachi shared that the idea behind this first street library of the city is to encourage the practice of book reading among people.

    The Karachi Commissioner’s Office has decorated the wall surrounding the Metropole building with portraits of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, his sister Fatima Jinnah, and poet Allama Iqbal. Wooden bookshelves have also been installed between the portraits.

    Plans to upgrade other public libraries in different districts of the city are also underway.

    A woman has been caught on camera threatening on-duty traffic policeman in Karachi after she was stopped by him over traffic rules violation.

    According to the details, the woman was stopped by the traffic personnel in Karachi’s area of Khayaban-e-Shahbaz of DHA after she violated a signal rule.

    In the video, the woman can be heard threatening, misbehaving and abusing the policeman, who asked to show her license or the CNIC after the violation of traffic rule.

    Meanwhile, police have registered a case against the woman in Darkhashan police station.

    All billboards in Karachi to be removed in 24 hours

    Billboards in the city are illegal and have been installed without permission, said Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shalwani, vowing to remove all of them across the city in 24 hours.

    He said this in a meeting with the local government and local administrators.

    The Supreme Court had passed an order to remove the billboards from all public properties last month. Despite the order the billboards have resurfaced in the city and the commissioner has ordered that they be removed as soon as possible.

    Not that we didn’t know that already, but a new report has confirmed that Karachi is one of the worst cities to drive in.

    According to a French-based survey, which ranked 100 global cities to determine which were the best, and worst, destinations for drivers, Karachi was at number five. Mumbai topped the list while Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia came second and Kolkata, India third.

    On the other hand, Calgary, Canada was the best city in the world for driving followed by Dubai (2) and Ottawa (3).

    Meanwhile, the same study ranked Karachi number three on the list of cities with the most incidents of road rage. Road rage is defined as aggressive or angry behaviour exhibited by a driver of a road vehicle. Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia topped the list while Moscow, Russia came second.

    The study took three factors into consideration – infrastructure, safety and costs – when drawing up comparisons and deciding which city made a good location to drive.

    To determine a city’s infrastructure, a number of factors were examined, such as the number of cars per capita, traffic congestion, road and public transport quality, among others. Air quality levels were also investigated in order to determine the city’s commitment to providing fresh air and good visibility for its drivers and citizens alike.

    The costs associated with driving in each city were also evaluated, including not only the price of combustibles and annual road tax paid in each location but also the purchase parity of each country to determine how affordable it was to drive in that particular city.
