Sonya Hussyn calls out Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar

Sonya Hussyn has thrashed the writer of Mere Paas Tum Ho and Sadqay Tumharay, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar for his problematic statements about women and his professional associations.

The Saraab star appeared on Geo News’ sports show, Jashan-e-Cricket hosted by Shahzad Iqbal. When the host asked Sonya about her opinion on Special Assistant to the Punjab Chief Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan’s slap incident with PPP MNA Qadir Khan Mandokhail,

She said: “When you appear on TV then you have some responsibility to behave well. If someone deserves it then it’s alright but one should not disrespect women, for instance Khalil Sahab disrespected women. When you are on a media platform then you should keep your personal views aside and talk responsibly.”

Khalil had earlier claimed that he never offered the role of the female lead in his blockbuster drama to Sonya, and nor did he ever want to cast her in the show as he believes she doesn’t have the caliber of being in his play. While the Aangan actress has claimed that she was offered Ayeza’s character in the play but she had turned it down because she can’t tolerate women being shown in a bad light in dramas.

Sonya revealed that Khalil did approach her in the past and still does. She added that he has no rights of casting as he is just a writer.

But Khalil refuted her claim and stated that Sonya was making a false claim on being offered the role. He further added that it was impossible to cast her in the play because he would have refused it outright.

The Kaaf kangana writer also indulged in a misogynist war of words with political commentator Marvi Sirmed in March 2020 which started a debate on his misconduct in the industry.

Vasay asked Iman about a list of popular films that she rejected, answering the question, she said: “I might have rejected the film because I may not be in friendship with the writer of that film or might not be fond of him.”

Koi zehr bhi lag sakta hai na, islie mana kia ho sakta hai,” she added.

Vasay then went on to ask her that how many films have she rejected? The Khuda Kay Liye actress said: “There are a lot of them.”

Iman added: “I rejected Karachi Se Lahore, Punjab Nahi Jaungi, Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, Na Maloom Afraad, and there was one film Azaadi by Irfan Malik and many more.”

Vasay asked Iman that why did she refuse to work in Jawani Phir Nahi Ani? To which she replied: “Ye to all boys film thi islie.” And what about Na Maloom Afraad, asked Vasay, “Ye bhi all boys film thi,” she answered.

He then asked that why did she not work in Punjab Nahi Jaungi? She started laughing and said: “I think the writer cheated on the character of the heroine. The writer is from Punjab and knows about Punjab, then he should only write about that. Why are you writing about a girl who came from Karachi or London, write something that you know about.”

“Khalil-ur-Rehman was the writer of that movie,” added Vasay. Then she said: “He writes really well about Punjab and Punjabi characters but my character was a little out of his comfort zone.”

She continued: “I did watch the film after it released but there were some issues which remains there.”

Vasay also asked: “What happened to Karachi Se Lahore?” She said: “Don’t even talk about that, the character does not make any sense. That she’s a nerd, in ghar kay kurtay and pajamay.”

She also revealed that she has done some films for the sake of friendship like Tich Button and Mah-e-Mir but she still had some issues with the story and some things in them.

When Vasay concluded the interview by saying that he hope writers are listening that she is ready to work, the moment he took Khalil’s name, Iman said she hopes he doesn’t listen to this announcemnet.

Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar says ‘MPTH’s’ ‘dou takkay ki larki’ dialogue was misinterpreted

Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar (KRQ), who often makes headlines with his unfiltered remarks, has said that Meray Paas Tum Ho’s infamous ‘Dou Takay ki Larki‘ dialogue was misinterpreted.

Talking to Vasay Chaudhry on his show Ghabrana Mana Hai, the writer clarified that he did not use the word ‘aurat‘ (woman) in the dialogue but specifically wrote ‘larki‘ (girl) for the character of Mehwish, played by Ayeza Khan.

“The word aurat was never used,” said Qamar. “I did not generalise women in this dialogue. I specifically wrote iss larki (this girl).”

The writer further said: “The thing is that I referred to that specific girl only, the one who committed a sin. She does not represent all women. The drama had three more female characters [but] the opportunists forgot to talk about them.”

“They talked rubbish, saying that ‘Do Takkay Ki Aurat‘ was used. I tried to explain the difference to them but no one understood. One even questioned the difference between a girl and a woman? I will meet that person someday and will teach them the difference between a girl and a woman.”

Qamar continued: “Also if someone does not understand the literal meaning of these things, they can come and take classes from me.”

During the interview, KRQ also referred to himself as the flagbearer of women’s rights saying that he is a big advocate of women. The writer added that he only has a problem with the slogans and finds them “ghaleez” (vulgar).

“If you talk about rights, both men and women have rights. Yahan toh sirf elite class kay rights hain,” said Qamar. “The rights of poor men and women have been stolen.”

Meanwhile, the writer-director also addressed his issue with Mahira Khan, saying: “I share a very respectful relationship with Mahira. I respect her a lot and the same was from her side. I was startled to see Mahira’s tweet that what she has written.”

Khalil-ur-Rehman once again misbehaves with a female panelist

The controversial Pakistani writer, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, has once again come under fire for using foul language with a female panelist in a talk show. During the show, Qamar lost his cool during a debate and misbehaved with a lady panelist Ailia Zehra.

During a panel discussion on divorce rate and child marriages, Qamar began to use inappropriate language while attacking a fellow panelist. Upon being told by the host, Awais Iqbal, to speak respectfully, he went on an outburst and left the show while shouting.

Sharing the video clip on Twitter, Ailia said: “Just had a horrible encounter with toxic masculinity. Khalilur Rehman Qamar lost his marbles during a talk show when I called him out over his hateful rhetoric. He left the show while yelling at the top of his lungs. Called me a RAW agent and spewed sexist slurs.”

It was also reported that in his fit of anger, Qamar also told the producer of the show that his action was justified because Ailia had not greeted him when he entered the studio for the show.

This is not the first time Qamar has behaved inappropriately on TV. In March last year, Qamar had abused activist Marvi Sirmed during a TV discussion on ‘Aurat March’ and the slogan ‘Mera Jism Meri Marzi’ (my body, my choice).

Earlier, the Mere Paas Tum Ho writer reprimanded women writers for humiliating relationships in dramas.

In an interview when Rehman was asked what was the reason that people in showbiz are so afraid of him, he said: “People are afraid of me because I am honest with my work. They will be afraid of dishonesty.”

He added: “Female writers have stigmatised relationships like that of a sister-in-law, mother-in-law and brother-in-law.” He said that there are 99.9 per cent of women who are writing in the industry but they only write about family politics and stigmatise sacred relationships.

Qamar has been involved in many controversies including a debate on Aurat March slogans with Marvi Sirmed. He said to Ms Sirmed that “no one would even spit on your body” and that she was a “cheap woman” who should “shut up”. “So I reach the set and see Humayun and Nadeem Baig talking in hushed tones, darting glances at me all this while,” said Adnan while talking about what happened on set while this scene was being shot. “‘Perhaps they sold me off to aliens last night,’ I try to make light of it to myself when they decide to include me in the discussion.”

“Turns out, the matter on hand is much more serious. In the first-ever scene that will commence MPTH, Danish will be slapping Shehwar in his office as his employees look on. ‘Not bad’, I chuckle though both Humayun and Nadeem look nervous about my “seniority” and the close friendship I share with Humayun.”

“Cameras roll and there is pin-drop silence. Danish raises his hand on Shehwar and before we know it, we are rolling into full-throttled guffaws Nadeem included,” he continued. “When Humayun and I are shooting together, especially an intense scene, it is a laugh riot and this couldn’t be an exception. In fact, it became essential to put everyone at ease.”

Concluding his remarks, Adnan said: “I still joke with Nadeem why did he stop at just one slap? For a woman as beautiful as Mehwish, Shehwar would have easily taken a few more.”

Meray Paas Tum Ho also featured Ayeza Khan and Hira Mani in the lead. Written by Khalil ur Rehman Qamar and directed by Nadeem Baig, the drama was produced by Humayun and Shahzad Nasib under their production house Six Sigma Plus.

Khalil ur Rehman Qamar called a ‘hypocrite’ after he attends protest for motorway rape victim

According to details, Qamar was also called out by a member of the civil society Husnain Jamil Faridi while he was addressing local media channels, the clip of which has gone viral on social media. Netizens lauded Faridi for bashing Qamar and hit out at the writer for his misogynistic comments.

Khalil ur Rehman Qamar has been at the receiving end of criticism and hate ever since he publicly abused journalist Marvi Sirmed on live television, back in March.

ICYMI, a few days before the Aurat March, Qamar and Marvi were invited to be a part of a panel discussion on Neo TV’s show Aaj Ayesha Ehtesham Kay Saath. The topic of discussion was a petition against the Aurat March in the Lahore High Court (LHC). The petition, which had called the march “un-Islamic” with a “hidden agenda to spread vulgarity”, had been dismissed by the court that said it couldn’t be banned under the law of the land.
