    Billion Tree Tsunami: NAB detects Rs462 million loss to exchequer

    A loss of Rs462 million to the public exchequer has been detected by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as it conducted its initial inquiry into the Billion Tree Tsunami Project of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), The News reported.

    NAB Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal had authorised the inquiry against the flagship project in March last year.

    “The NAB regional office has recommended to the headquarters for upgrading the inquiry along with authorisation for separate investigations and six inquiries to unearth the mega scam in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP),” the report said.

    Meanwhile, an officer was quoted as saying that NAB officials “had checked only 10 to 20 per cent of only one region out of three, which is the smallest region as compared to Hazara and Swat.

    In 2014, the then PTI-led KP government had started the Billion Tree Tsunami Project with Rs14.32 billion utilised for the project execution by the Forest Department.

    Allegations of ghost labour, misappropriation and embezzlement of daily wages, enclosures failure and payments against ghost plantations were received by the anti-graft body at its Peshawar bureau earlier.

    According to official documentsduring the initial inquiry based on proceedings conducted so far, a loss of Rs462 million has been detected. The NAB reports further disclosed that due to the shortfall in the hectare-wise plantation area in Dera Ismail Khan, a loss of Rs80.044 million has been detected.

    The regional NAB office has recommended the headquarters to convert the ongoing inquiry into a proper investigation to probe the case. It further recommended four investigations against the divisional forest officer and others regarding misuse of authority, embezzlement, corruption and corrupt practices.

    Furthermore, six additional inquiries were also recommended against the officers and officials of the KP Forest Department and others regarding embezzlement, misappropriation, corruption, and corrupt practices in procurement of seeds, polythene bags, machinery, vehicles and office equipment in forest region 1, 2 and 3.

    While NAB sources were quoted as confirming that the matter is under scrutiny as per law, media has reportedly been requested to avoid speculations in this regard.

    KP Police to train female commandos

    For the first time in history, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to hire female police commandos that are presently being trained to fight militancy in the province.

    As per reports, around 35 female police commandos are undergoing training at the Nowshera police training center. Officials have said that KP Inspector General Police Nasir Durrani felt that female police commandos should be included in the force and decided to give them special training.

    The same training will be given to female commandos that is imparted to elite force male members in the province and will be able to confront all kinds of challenges, including the fight against militants.

    More female commandos will be trained for KP police once the first batch joins the police.

    Talking to a news outlet Musarrat Bibi — a commando under training — said, “I wanted to join the group because I wanted to tell the world that women in K-P could also obtain commando training and fight terrorism.”

  • KP govt approves Rs 700 million for tourism police

    Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Mahmood Khan has approved Rs 700 million budget for the formation of tourism police in the province. The decision was taken to promote tourism in the province.

    The tourism police, consisting of 500 personnel, will protect tourists and tourist spots across the province.

    The decision was taken in a meeting on tourism promotion in the province.

    During the meeting, it was also decided to start the KP Tourism Authority, as well as outsource Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation’s devolved assets. Construction of hotels around tourism spots was also discussed.

    CM Mahmood also approved Rs 500 million for the ‘Home Cities Project’ set to be built at three scenic tourist spots.

    Moreover, Rs 500 million was allocated for marketing scenic tourist destinations to attract tourists.

    Mobile application launched in KP to recover missing children

    Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has introduced a smartphone application, “Mera Bacha Alert” to help citizens and concerned departments in the recovery of missing children in the province.

    According to reports, the launch event of the application took place at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat where CM Mahmood appreciated the efforts of the Performance Management and Reforms Unit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that the app would not only help in recovering the missing children but would also discourage dreadful incidents regarding innocent children in the province.

    The mobile app is available in the KP citizen’s portal and soon will be added to the Pakistan citizen’s portal.

    This application will allow parents to register a report if their child goes missing. They will be able to upload a picture along with the necessary attributes.

    The application will auto-generate alerts and SMS will be sent to the District Police Officer (DPO), Regional Police Officer (RPO), Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the chief secretary.

    Moreover, the details including registration of FIR, starting of investigation, dispatching of the team, evidence collection and completion of investigation would also be added to the dashboard of District Police Officer (DPO)

    This application will also help in developing a directory of all the cases of missing children at the provincial level and can be monitored by the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary as well.

    KP to launch public toilet finder app

    The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is all set to introduce an app on November 19 which will assist people, particularly tourists, in finding public toilets across the province.

    Imranullah Mohmand, assistant coordinator of water and sanitation services cell (W&SC) of local government department made the announcement and said that a similar app was being run in Australia and India for the facilitation of masses.

    He added that the step was aimed to keep the province clean and protect the environment from degradation and the citizens from diseases. He said all necessary information about toilets, including their distance, male, female, children and disabled persons, would be available on the app for public information.

    The app is being introduced keeping in mind the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan to make the country clean and green.
