Karachi-based matchmaker Mrs Khan says women are to blame for divorces
Welcome to your daily dose of cringe.
A Karachi-based matchmaker, who is popularly known as Mrs Khan, on live television said that rising divorces are due to women’s inability to bow down before their husbands and because they argue too much.
“We were told from the start that we should hold our tongue and keep it in control,” Mrs Khan said. “If a woman keeps her tongue in check, we wouldn’t have to face these problems. Such problems arise when women are unable to control themselves and try to dominate their husbands.”
She continued, “We were told that when the husband comes home, his shoes and clothes should be properly placed. There should be a roti on the tawa just ready to be served with the salan, which is supposed to have been prepared beforehand. But girls nowadays – they say that will not make rotis or do any work.”
“Phir shaadi kyun ki?” she asked angrily. “If you’re not capable of doing this, then don’t get married…Until and unless you’re not a proper woman then don’t get married. Marriage means responsibility.”
When the host interrupted Mrs Khan and said that girls say “Hum maasi ban kar thori kisi kay ghar ja rahe hain, hum toh biwi ban kar ja rahe hain,” Mrs Khan attacked her.
“Were they maids in their parent’s house? Or are they some minister or governor’s daughter? You’ll have to do it [house work] like your mother. Who would take care of you and your needs, give you food etc? Who would bring money to the house? The same rules apply in your own marriage.”
She then reiterated her earlier point that no matter strata of the society girls belong to they must always keep their mouths shut and never voice their opinions.
She then proceeded to say that the media has ruined women and encouraged them to “open their mouths” while the husband listens silently.
Needless to say, Mrs Khan’s comments sparked outrage among women who were disgusted by her misogynist and outdated comments.
And men had a field day because they found a woman who agrees with their misogynist thoughts.

Research from the University of Sussex suggests that daily reading can lessen stress up to 68 percent, even more than listening to music, drinking a cup of tea or taking a walk.
Improves IQ
Books improve verbal IQ and stimulate parts of the brain related to language and memory. Reading also delays cognitive decline in the elderly.
Helps in weight loss
For those struggling to lose weight, adding a good novel to your diet and exercise routine could help. A study from Duke University suggested that reading an inspiring novel helped young girls to achieve weight loss within six months compared to those who didn’t read.

How to save on your electricity bill?
The ever-increasing inflation has disturbed our budget to no extent. And considering its the summers, the electricity bill has practically sky-rocketed just like the mercury making it a feat to pay.
Here are four ways you can save on your electricity bill.
Save on your appliances
Electronic devices consume energy even when they are not in use but plugged in. Unplug every electrical device that’s not needed. Moreover, fit LED lights instead of traditional bulbs as they use less energy and last longer than bulbs. Bulbs also produce more heat and make your home warmer.
Save on your AC
Set the air-conditioning unit to “Auto” rather than the “On” mode, as this will regulate room temperature more effectively.
Don’t keep your AC’s temperature lower than 24 degrees celsius. Each degree cooler can represent the equivalent of a nine percent savings on cooling costs.
Ensure your air-conditioners are well maintained by regularly getting them checked from a good maintenance company. It is important to ensure that air filters are clean, refrigerant levels are maintained and electrical connections are working properly. If they’re not checked everyday issues have the potential to cause bigger problems which will eventually contribute to your expenses.
Save when doing laundry
Around 90% of a washing machine’s energy is used to heat the water, so washing your clothes at 30-40C will help keep your electricity bill less. Another tip is don’t start the machine until you have a full load.
Use less energy during peak hours
According to LESCO and K-electric, these are the peak and off-peak hours so try to use less energy during these hours.

Pakistan becomes first country in South East Asia to conduct successful 5G test
Pakistan has become the first country in South East Asia to conduct a successful 5G network test, Dunya News has reported.
According to the reports, Chinese telecom company Zong conducted the test on Pakistan’s Independence Day (August 14), paving way for a new digital revolution in the country.
5G is the fifth generation of cellular network technology with 10 times faster data download and upload speeds as compared to 4G, with wider coverage and more stable connections.
The network’s home router speed has been recorded as four 4 gigabytes (GB) per second, which means that with 5G you can download a 50 GB file in just two minutes.
It is estimated that 5G technology will bring industrial opportunities worth $1.2 trillion to South Asia and South East Asia over the next five years.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had in June, invited applications for 5G wireless network trials in the country and presented the framework for test and development of future technologies.
