    Military’s stance unchanged about May 9, responsible must be punished: DG ISPR

    Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmad has stated that the military’s views on May 9 are the same as before, and those responsible for the May 9 events must be brought to justice.

    “There has been no change in that nor there will be,” the military spokesperson asserted referring to the military’s stance about May 9.

    He also recalled last week’s government notification in which the TTP was declared as “Fitna al-Khawarij” for distorting the image of Islam.

    The DG ISPR also warned that those involved in “digital terrorism” will be punished because they want to drive a wedge between the armed forces and the people of Pakistan.

    “The law is not taking its course against it, but the armed forces take it very seriously,” he stated that legal action would be taken against those involved.

    Talking about the recent protests by Baloch Yakjehti Committee, he said, “In the guise of a peaceful march, BYC protestors are committing violence against forces.”

    Former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s family met him on the second day of Eid in Adiala jail, SAMMA reported on Tuesday.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Meher Banu Qureshi, Mehreen Qureshi, and Sameer Chanoy met Shah Mahmood Qureshi inside jail premises, bringing him home-cooked food to celebrate the religious holiday.

    Qureshi has been in jail since last year, facing investigations into cases related to May 9.

    Earlier, PTI leader and Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s son, Zain Qureshi, expressed hopes that his father will be released from jail after Eid ul Azha.

    The Pakistan Army on Thursday reiterated the call for bringing to justice the planners, perpetrators, abettors, and facilitators of the May 9 riots for the “collective good of the country”.

    According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s resolve was communicated during the 83rd Formation Commanders Conference at the General Headquarters (GHQ) presided by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir.

    “Digital terrorism unleashed against state institutions, especially Pakistan’s armed forces, is being carried out with the help of external facilitators to achieve nefarious political objectives,” said the presser.

    Furthermore, the military leadership believed that there are efforts to sow discord between the state institutions and the Pakistani nation.

    The conference concluded with the determination that, “All threats to the security and stability of the country will be thwarted with the full support of a proud nation.”

    Shah Mahmood Qureshi implicated in eight more cases related to May 9

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi was implicated in eight more cases related to the May 9 riots on Sunday.

    Qureshi is currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail on multiple charges while also serving a 10-year sentence under the Official Secrets Act by a special court.

    May 9 riots took place when PTI founder Imran Khan was arrested from the premises of Islamabad High Court (IHC). Scores of PTI workers and senior leaders were imprisoned for involvement in violence and attacks on military installations in 2023.

    Meher Bano Qureshi, a PTI leader and the daughter of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, took to X to condemn the action taken by Lahore Police saying, “After 281 days in jail l, as a consequence of a sham trial, Lahore Police has arrested Shah Mahmood Qureshi in 8 cases related to 9th May incidents in Lahore. The arrest comes after he was interrogated by Lahore police yesterday. Incidentally, it’s a well-established and documented fact that my father was in Karachi on the 9th.”

    Hammad Azhar reappears in public after months, escapes police arrest

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Hammad Azhar reappeared in public on Wednesday after almost a year in hiding following a crackdown on PTI workers after the May 9 riots.

    “Yesterday, I received a message from Imran Khan that it’s time to come out of hiding,” said Azhar as he visited the PTI’s Central Secretariat office in Islamabad.

    The senior PTI leader said that he will go to Peshawar to get pre-arrest bail as he has multiple charges pending against him in connection with the May 9 violent protests that erupted last year after Imran Khan’s arrest in a corruption case.

    “All leaders, including Murad Saeed, will come out of hiding,” he added.

    After knowing about Azhar’s whereabouts, Islamabad police quickly encircled the party’s secretariat in the capital city to arrest him.

    However, the PTI leader managed to escape the party’s office before the police’s arrival.

    Chaudhry Parvez Elahi released from Kot Lakhpat jail after months

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president Chaudhry Parvez Elahi was released on Tuesday after being detained in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail for months, Geo has reported.

    The development comes after the Lahore High Court (LHC) approved the bail of the senior politician in the Punjab Assembly illegal recruitment case. Justice Sultan Tanvir of the LHC announced the decision on Elahi’s bail request.

    After the release, the PTI president reached his residence in Lahore.

    Parvez Elahi was arrested after May 9 events, when authorities cracked down on the opposition party.

    Earlier last year, on May 9, violent protests erupted after the arrest of PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

    The protesters attacked public and private properties, including military installations, in multiple cities across the country. In prominent locations, General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi and Jinnah House Lahore are included, where violent protesters attacked.

    However, the PTI president said that the people of Gujarat “had to suffer a lot of abuse and cruelty”. He also stated that PTI’s mandate was stolen in his home city. “We will not talk to [Chaudhry] Shujaat sahib’s children until our mandate is given back to us.”

    “I was, am, and will stand with the founder of PTI,” he added.

    Imran Khan, others acquitted in two vandalism cases

    Founder Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan and other leaders of his party were acquitted by the district and sessions court on Monday in two cases related to vandalism.

    Other leaders of the party who were acquitted include Zartaj Gul, Ali Nawaz Awan, Faisal Javed, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Qasim Suri, Raja Khurram Nawaz, Shireen Mazari, Saifullah Niazi, Asad Umar and Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmad.

    These particular cases were registered in the Kohsar and Karachi Company police stations under the violation of Section 144.

    The court had earlier reserved its verdict in the Long March vandalism case.

    Khan’s legal representatives spoke with journalists and stated that the cases against Khan were based on political vengeance.

    “No evidence of vandalism found against PTI founder during the long march,” he said, adding that the Islamabad administration did not issue any notification to enforce Section 144 in the capital city.

    Court acquits Khan in two May 9 vandalism cases

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was cleared of charges in two cases related to vandalism on May 9.

    Judicial Magistrate Sahib Bilal issued the acquittal order for the former prime minister.

    Both cases against Khan were filed at the Khanna police station in Islamabad.

    The Judicial Magistrate approved Khan’s acquittal plea due to insufficient evidence in the cases against him.

    The cases were registered against the PTI founder in 2022 for  long march and violation of Article 144.

    ‘Who is behind transfer of judges’; Yasmin Rashid questions government

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) incarcerated leader Dr Yasmin Rashid asked the federal government on Tuesday who was repeatedly transferring the judges hearing her case and the cases of party workers.

    “If some innocent person is given bail, he is arrested again in a new case. This is not justice, this is political vengeance, and the PTI has been a victim of this for one year,” the imprisoned PTI leader said in a letter addressed to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa.

    Dr Yasim said that one year had passed since the May 9 incident happened, and still, women PTI workers are in jail.

    The PTI leader questioned the “bogus government” as to why police did not show up with cases’ records and wondered where the prosecutor goes at the time of presenting arguments.

    She requested the CJP to make a judicial commission on May 9 as PTI workers have been waiting for justice for one year.

    Khan wants General Asim Munir to apologise to him

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder chairman Imran Khan said in a post on X that “My abduction on the morning of May 9 was part of the London plan and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir should apologise to me.”

    Imran Khan further said in the same post that “DG ISPR and the army chief are making political statements in a threating tone, which is affecting the army’s image.”

    “When political statements and press conferences are made, political parties have the right to respond,”  he added.

    The former Prime Minister also said that he will write a letter to COAS General Asim Munir about the economic and political situation of the money-strained country, Geo News has reported.

    While talking to journalists in Adiala jail on Monday, the former Premier said, “I will write a letter to the army chief on the [prevailing] situation in the country.”

    The remarks came about a few days after he assigned an “important responsibility” to former president Arif Alvi, who is continuously trying for better relations between PTI and the establishment.

    PTI founder assigned the responsibility of talks with the establishment to Alvi after declining the military’s demand to apologise for the May 9 violent protests. 

    On a question regarding the £190 million settlement case, the PTI founder said that Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) had confiscated money, finding it “suspicious transactions” but not “money laundering.”
