Maya Ali, Hania Aamir speak up for Yumna Zaidi after Javeria Saud shares ‘childhood’ picture

Actors Maya Ali and Hania Aamir have spoken in support of Yumna Zaidi after Javeria Saud’s remarks on a television show led to a public exchange.

Saud shared a childhood photograph during her show, stating that it was of Zaidi and remarking that some actors had been working “since the stone ages” before gaining recognition.

Zaidi responded on social media, slamming the use of unverified material on television. “This is not my childhood picture. It’s an identity based disinformation. Any data or information should be rectified before airing on national television. Thanks,” she wrote.

Following Zaidi’s response, Maya Ali addressed the situation in an Instagram story, calling for accountability within the industry. “When will we start respecting our own talent, our actors, our stars?” she wrote. “People dedicate their lives to their craft day and night, and the saddest part is, it’s not outsiders pulling them down. it’s often voices from within our own industry doing it publicly on big platforms.”

She added, “ALLAH has written everyone’s destiny and their time. Na waqt se pehle, na waqt ke baad….. Let’s stop pulling each other down. Let’s stand for one another!! Aaj koi aur hai, kal app bhi ho sakte hain.” Maya also urged media platforms to act with responsibility, stating, “And a humble request to the channels, please verify before airing anything about anyone. Use your platform responsibly.”

Hania Aamir later reshared Maya Ali’s statement on her Instagram Story, adding, “What she said,” indicating her support for Zaidi.

Javeria Saud subsequently issued a clarification, stating that the image had been taken from social media without verification. “Due to some online confusion and misinformation, our team came across this picture on social media and used it without proper verification. I truly regret this and sincerely apologize,” she said.

Addressing Zaidi directly, Saud added, “Yumna, you have always been very close to my heart. I have immense love and respect for you and your work.”

She also responded to the age-related remark, stating, “As for the age related comment, it has unfortunately been misunderstood. I was referring to a different context about a time period of work, not about anyone’s age. It was a general remark and was never intended for anyone in particular.”

  • Did Maya Ali respond to Faiza Saqlain’s plagiarism accusations?

Did Maya Ali respond to Faiza Saqlain’s plagiarism accusations?

Renowned designer Faiza Saqlain has accused actor-turned-entrepreneur Maya Ali of copying her designs for her fashion label MAYA Prêt-à-Porter. Despite the public accusation, the actor has so far remained silent on the controversy.

Taking to her personal Instagram stories earlier this week, Saqlain shared side-by-side images comparing three of her brand’s designs to those recently released by Maya’s label. “Should I be flattered?” she asked, tagging @mayapretofficial. “It’s getting boring now, please come up with something of your own — can’t promise but hopeful that might sell too.”

The designer alleged that Maya’s team not only replicated the designs but also copied the model, styling, and backdrop used in Faiza Saqlain campaigns. Among the pieces were:

A bridal outfit from Maya’s latest “Bus Tum” collection, resembling a 2021 Faiza Saqlain design.

A velvet ombré sari from Maya’s “Viola Luxe” line, Faiza claimed is similar to her sari from last year.

A black peshwas outfit that Saqlain claims mirrors one of her 2023 looks — even featuring the same model and similar shoot composition.

The accusations quickly went viral, sparking debate across social media. Some users sided with Saqlain, calling out the similarities, while others defended Maya’s brand, insisting that fashion trends often overlap.

One user took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote: “maybe it’s just me but what’s so unique about this dress lmao? Idk how she can be accused of stealing things when this is the most common black desi dress design. Mahira’s one in Humsafar went viral and it has been popular on the market ever since.”

Many users on Instagram disagreed with the claim. One user said: “I don’t see any copies design?” Another wrote: “Yes all the design are different…faiza is being senti at this point.”

“Had hogaye,” one user laughed while another said: “Most of Pakistani traditional designs are more or less the same! What’s the big deal?”

As of now, Maya Ali has not issued any official response to the claims. The Current reviewed her verified Instagram accounts, her personal page, as well as her brand pages Maya Pret and Maya Essential, and found no mention of the controversy.

Instead, Maya’s social media presence has remained focused on the launch of her brand’s new collections, giveaway posts, and a recent personal photo featuring what appears to be her niece or nephew. In another post the actress can be seen enjoying a music piece of the upcoming film Neelofar’s newly launched song Tu Meri.

Maya Ali formed MAYA Prêt-à-Porter in June 2021, in collaboration with her cousins Zainab and Ansa Qadeer. The brand focuses on luxury pret and bridal wear. In September 2025, she expanded the venture by introducing two new lines — Maya Essentials (for everyday wear) and Maya Pret Official (for formal and festive attire).

The disputed designs belong to the label’s newly unveiled collection, which debuted earlier this month.

So far, neither Maya Ali nor her team has commented on the matter publicly.

When asked about marriage, she said: “I believe that whatever is written in my destiny will happen.” She added, “As Muslims, we believe that everything is already written for us, so why don’t people apply the same belief to marriage? Why don’t they understand that marriage will happen when it’s destined?”

She further revealed that people often taunt her for being unmarried. “People say, ‘Your younger brother is married, why aren’t you?’ But what can I do? It will happen when it’s meant to happen.”

She made it clear that she won’t marry just for the sake of it, stating: “I will only get married when I find someone I truly like and feel a connection with.”

Talking about relationships, Maya shared: “With age, a person becomes more realistic. The fever of love also subsides. So, when I feel that a good person has entered my life, I will get married.”

She also revealed that her mother prays for her marriage in every prayer but added: “I can’t convince my elders that I won’t get married just for show.”

Maya Ali emphasised that she would like to marry someone who understands and values her career while also respecting her family, especially her mother.

“I will marry a person who understands the importance of a woman and her work, as well as supports her. That is the right of every woman,” she said.

Clarifying rumours, she stated: “I have not set any deadline or time for marriage. When I find the right person, and my heart tells me it’s time, only then will I get married—and no one will even know until then!”

  • Rs8 crore becomes unexpected star of ‘Sunn Mere Dil’

Rs8 crore becomes unexpected star of ‘Sunn Mere Dil’

What do you get when a drama revolves around a number that’s never been seen but constantly mentioned?

The obsession with ‘8 crore’ in Sunn Mere Dil has taken the drama by storm, but not in the way fans would expect.

Controversial writer Khail Ur Rehman Qamar, known for his misogynistic scripts and problematic plots, previously faced heavy criticism for ‘2 takay ke larki’, one of the dialogues from ‘Meray Paas Tum Ho’, and now, he is facing the same backlash for the constant use of ‘8 crore’ in Sunn Mere Dil.

The ‘8 crore’ reference is to the conversation when Sadaf learns that her brother, Zaviyar, has cancer. The doctor says he could survive with a transplant, but the treatment is only available in the U.S. Sadaf goes to Bilal Abdullah’s office, where she meets him and asks for help. She requests him to lend her eight crore, saying, “Whatever you ask, I will do it.” Bilal agrees, signs the cheque, and hands it to her.

Maya Ali and Wahaj Ali play the lead roles in Sunn Mere Dil, however, despite the hype, the execution has not had a positive response from fans.

Maya Ali portrays Sadaf, and Wahaj Ali plays Bilal Abdullah.

The script and character development have left viewers disappointed, with many questioning the storyline that seems to lack coherence.

Now, ‘8 crore’ is the most discussed subject on social media as it has been persistently used in a number of episodes.

Instagram blogger Miss Malik compiled a list of the many times ‘8 crore’ is referenced, and so far, it has been used 13 times in the drama.

This is followed by another repeated dialogue: “crore chahiye” and “Mirza Shahab ne mujhe bola, please sir, peete waqt meri beti ko discus mat kare” said by Bilal played by Wahaj Ali.

Fans have been vocal about their frustration with the constant repetition of 8 crores and its impact on the drama.

    Here’s how fans are reacting:

A fan commented, “I can’t believe they keep talking about 08 crore like it’s just pocket change. The drama’s plot should be more than just this number.”

Another fan jokingly commented, 8 “Whole drama is dancing around 8 crore8 crore crying in corner8 croor q chahiye, BMW M5 f90 leni hei. Bro. Isliya.”

A viewer couldn’t contain their amusement and commented, “The 8 crore obsession is so intense, and I’m starting to feel like I need it too. Who else is watching this drama just for that magic number?”

Sun Mere Dil features a talented cast, including Amar Khan, Saba Hamid, Hira Mani, Usama Khan, Syed Mohammed Ahmed, and Shavir Kadwani.

Written by controversial writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar and directed by Haseeb Hassan, ‘Sunn Mere Dil’ may have missed the mark in some areas, but one thing is for sure: ‘8 crore’ has taken over the conversation.
