Best and worst looks from 2025 Hum Awards

Pakistani television stars not only know how to captivate audiences with their performances but also how to shine on a night of glamour and celebration.

The 10th Hum Awards, held in Houston, was nothing short of magical. Our stars dazzled on the red carpet, turning heads with their fashion choices. While many impressed with their style game, a few looks fell short of expectations.

Here’s a round-up of the best and not-so-best looks from one of Pakistan’s most prestigious award shows.

    Best Dressed Celebrities

    Mawra Hocane

Mawra turned heads in a stunning red gown by Gemmy Maalouf featuring a dramatic draped skirt. Channeling a modern-day Barbie, she styled the look with a delicate silver necklace by Hanif Jewelers. The overall ensemble was radiant and elegant, definitely a “wow” out of ten look.

    Hania Aamir

Always a charmer, Hania Aamir made a strong statement in a velvet blue ensemble by Mihha. The look included a sleeveless short shirt, bell-bottom culottes, and a dupatta elegantly draped around her neck. Her silver earrings from Sherezad Rahimtoola added just the right touch of sparkle. She kept her hair loose, complementing the effortless glam.

    Dur-e-Fishan Saleem

Dur-e-Fishan brought timeless grace to the red carpet in a black chiffon saree from Iqbal Hussain’s 2025 collection. Embellished with beadwork on the sleeves, the look was classic yet chic. Her statement earrings by Kundun.co by Fatima Ashar and nude makeup with dark eyes enhanced her dreamy aura. The white sports car she arrived in made the moment even more cinematic.

    Dananeer Mobeen

Dananeer embraced the “party ho rahi hai” spirit in a silk blue gown by Ahmed Manan. With her hair tied in a sleek high ponytail and a minimalist makeup look, she radiated youthful charm and energy.

    Mahira Khan

A timeless icon, Mahira Khan chose an ivory georgette saree by Iqbal Hussain adorned with intricate silk thread and lurex aari embroidery. The hand-embroidered borders, stonework, and subtle sequin spray exuded elegance. With a vintage-inspired side-parted bun, soft smoky eyes, and nude lips, Mahira embodied classic glam. She accessorised the gorgeous apparel with minimal silver jewelry by Sherezad Rahimtoola and silver bangles for a perfect blend of tradition and modernity.

    Ramsha Khan

Ramsha Khan stepped out in a bold, black suit by Nomi Ansari, featuring sequin and silver bead embroidery. Her wet-hair look and dramatic eye makeup gave a sharp, high-fashion edge to her appearance, standing out with confident flair.

    Underwhelming Fashion Choices

    Mehwish Hayat

Known for her impeccable style, Mehwish Hayat surprised many with a red embroidered three-piece shalwar kameez by Hafsa Imran Khan. While her commitment to elegance and culture is admirable, the outfit lacked the glamour typically expected at such an event. She wore her hair down with a center part and paired the outfit with red beaded earrings.

    Sajal Aly

Sajal made a grand entrance in a blue Ferrari, but the fashion didn’t quite match the drama. Her black starry gown, featuring beadwork and cut dana, failed to make a lasting impression. Given her style history, expectations were much higher.

    Sonya Hussaiyn

Sonya Hussaiyn wore a royal blue Sana Safinaz dress that didn’t resonate well with the crowd. Her silver eye makeup and tightly done bun didn’t complement the outfit, resulting in a less cohesive look.

    Kinza Hashmi

Kinza Hashmi’s golden dress by Omrose Couture was a miss. The shiny, silky frock didn’t flatter her the way her outfits usually do. Her dark red lipstick and golden jewelry clashed with the overly glitzy look, making it appear outdated.

    Men Who Stole the Spotlight

The men weren’t far behind on the glam meter. Celebrities like Bilal Abbas, Shuja Asad, Asim Azhar, Hamza Sohail, Humayun Saeed, and Adnan Siddiqui looked dashing in tailored suits and traditional prince coats.

Bilal Abbas Khan stood out in a maroon velvet suit, bringing richness and depth to the awards show, while Shuja Asad impressed in a classic black prince coat by Faizan Ahmed Khan, both giving major heartthrob vibes.

The 10th Hum Awards was a night to remember, full of fun, dance, glamour, and unforgettable moments. From dazzling gowns to bold fashion statements, Pakistani stars proved once again that their style is as powerful as their on-screen presence. While some looks missed the mark, many truly raised the bar, leaving fans in awe and fashion enthusiasts inspired.

  • ‘Forehead kiss’: Mehwish Hayat shares vulnerable side in Instagram post

‘Forehead kiss’: Mehwish Hayat shares vulnerable side in Instagram post

Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat, known for her strong on-screen personas and commanding presence, offered a rare glimpse into her softer side with a heartfelt Instagram post.

Sharing a series of photos in which she can be seen being real, the Ms. Marvel star captioned them: “Even a gangsta like me needs a forehead kiss sometimes.”

The post, which quickly went viral, sparked a wave of support and affection from fans, with many praising the actress for her emotional honesty. While a fan was quick to say: “You, in a gangsta movie/show would be such a treat to watch! Be it local or international.”

Another fan wrote: “May you get all you wish for over and over and over and over again. PS: Thank you for making us smile by posting this eye candy.”

Hayat, one of the most recognized faces in Pakistani entertainment, has long been celebrated for her fierce independence and bold career choices. But the caption reveals a more vulnerable layer beneath the surface of her public image.

The timing of the post follows the conclusion of her hit drama Daayan, which aired after a seven-year break from television. The series received critical acclaim and strong audience ratings, marking a successful return to the small screen for Hayat. Her performance was widely praised for its emotional depth and screen command.

Internationally, Mehwish Hayat continues to break barriers. She played a supporting role in the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which was a significant moment for Pakistani representation on global platforms. She also appeared in a music video alongside Indian rapper Honey Singh, further establishing her crossover appeal.

Awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 2019, Hayat has built a reputation for choosing diverse and challenging roles. Her filmography includes major Pakistani box-office hits such as Punjab Nahi Jaungi, Load Wedding, Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, London Nahi Jaunga and Actor in Law.

On television, she has delivered standout performances in serials like Dillagi, Mirat-ul-Uroos, Kabhi Kabhi, Meri Behan Maya and Daayan.

Despite her celebrity status, Mehwish Hayat has often spoken about the pressures of fame and the need for emotional resilience in the spotlight.

  • ‘Mehwish does not look like a college girl’; Khalil on casting Sajal in Main Manto Nahi Hoon

‘Mehwish does not look like a college girl’; Khalil on casting Sajal in Main Manto Nahi Hoon

Controversial Pakistani drama writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar recently commented on why actor Mehwish Hayat was not chosen for the lead female role in the widely discussed drama Main Manto Nahi Hoon.

In an interview with Sheikh Qasim, he stated that Mehwish Hayat does not look like a college student, which was a primary reason for not casting her in the role.

Speaking about the title and theme of the drama, Khalil explained, “The name itself implies that the central character, Manto (played by Humayun Saeed), is not as courageous as the real Manto. Manto was a very brave man who fought against societal disgrace with unmatched courage. I haven’t seen anyone braver than him. His pen was powerful enough to stand against a gun.”

When the host asked about the casting choices, particularly the transition to Sajal Aly, Khalil shared that while Maya Ali’s name was considered early on, they ultimately decided on Sajal. He added, “I hadn’t worked with her before and I felt I owed it to her that we should collaborate. She has done an incredible job, she’s an amazing actress.”

Addressing rumors that Mehwish Hayat was considered for the role, Khalil promptly denied them, clarifying, “Mehwish Hayat doesn’t look like a student, whereas Sajal Aly does. That was the main reason for choosing Sajal over others, including Maya Ali. Sajal is not only a very established actress but also visually fits the role of a student, which was crucial for the character.”

On the controversy surrounding the drama on social media, Khalil acknowledged the criticism but said, “Many have appreciated the drama as well. Those who criticize are entitled to their opinions. If someone has the ability to write, they also have the right to critique and comment.”

Main Manto Nahi Hoon has faced significant backlash online for multiple reasons. The central romance between a teacher and a student has been a particular point of contention. Actor Humayun Saeed, who plays the lead role, addressed the criticism by saying such relationships have occurred in reality. The drama has also been criticised for its bold dialogue and for using Manto’s name, despite having no direct connection to the legendary writer.

However, the show features a star-studded cast and continues to receive widespread viewership and praise from audiences.

  • Mehwish Hayat, Yo Yo Honey Singh may face UK ban for THIS  song

Mehwish Hayat, Yo Yo Honey Singh may face UK ban for THIS  song

Pakistani star Mehwish Hayat and Indian singer Yo Yo Honey Singh could face a ban from entering the UK.

British Parliament member Manuela Perteghella has formally called for action against the two, urging the UK Home Office to investigate the video for its “disturbing glorification of violence,” Deadline reported.

Jatt Mehkma’s music video was filmed in the UK and released in November. It has already gained nearly 40 million views on YouTube. The four-minute clip ends with four minor boys joining Hayat’s character in opening fire on a group of men using replica automatic weapons and shotguns.

According to reports, the video was shot at Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire and in Birmingham’s city centre, with help from a UK-based production company.

The Home Office is reportedly considering exclusion orders barring Hayat and Singh from re-entering the country. “There are serious concerns about the use of imitation firearms and exposing minors to violent themes,” reports quoted a source familiar with the matter said.

Mehwish Hayat, known for roles in Ms. Marvel and Pakistani films like Load Wedding and Actor in Law, denied that any official action is being taken. “These claims are entirely speculative and misleading,” she said, urging media platforms to verify facts before sharing such news.

Yo Yo Honey Singh, a major figure in India’s hip-hop scene, has yet to respond publicly.

The UK Home Office and West Midlands Police have declined to comment, and no legal steps have been announced yet. Following the controversy, the BBC Asian Network has reportedly dropped Jatt Mehkma from future playlists.
