Mohsin Naqvi was key link in Imran Khan medical examination: report

Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi played a key role in enabling communication between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to implement an order issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, directing that PTI founder Imran Khan’s eye be examined, sources have said in a news report.

Contacts were established at a time when no formal channel existed between the two sides. These efforts led to an understanding on medically examining Imran Khan, who is currently held at Adiala Jail. The process, however, faced delays due to repeated changes in PTI’s position following consultations involving Aleema Khan, the sources said.

Under the arrangement discussed between both sides, the government agreed to constitute an independent medical board. PTI was allowed to nominate one independent doctor for inclusion in the board. PTI proposed the name of Dr Nadeem Qureshi, which was accepted by the authorities. The government also conveyed that PTI could nominate a family member to observe the process.

Sources said that after internal consultations, PTI initially nominated Imran Khan’s nephew Qasim Zaman as the family representative. This proposal was accepted, but was later withdrawn. PTI then requested that Dr Nosherwan Burki be allowed to act in that role.

While the PTI-nominated doctor could be part of the medical board, the inclusion of a family doctor as a representative was not feasible. PTI was informed that the nominated family representative should not be a doctor, and was asked to propose another name.

The repeated changes led to delays in finalising the arrangements. Some PTI leaders and members of the opposition alliance were also monitoring the situation during this period.

PTI further proposed that Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for admission. The government responded that any hospital admission would be subject to the recommendation of the medical board. It also conveyed that the Supreme Court order did not direct admission prior to the examination. This position was communicated to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.

After no alternative arrangement was finalised by PTI, the independent medical board, including the PTI-nominated doctor, proceeded to Adiala Jail and conducted the examination.

Following the examination, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas were taken to meet the medical board, which briefed them on its findings. The government also facilitated telephonic consultations between the examining doctors and PTI-linked Lahore-based physicians Dr Asim Yousaf and Dr Khurram Mirza.

According to the medical board, no serious eye condition was identified. Imran Khan’s vision was recorded as 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other, and spectacles with a mild prescription were recommended.

Pakistan-India World Cup clash back on track under THESE conditions, reports say

Pakistan could still face India in the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup if the conditions the country has presented are accepted, with the final decision resting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to sources that talked to media, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has conveyed to the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the ultimate decision on a Pakistan-India match will come from the prime minister, and any progress will depend on government approval.

Senior ICC officials held nearly four hours of talks on Sunday night in Lahore with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, with negotiations continuing late into the night. ICC Vice Chairman Imran Khawaja, who arrived in Lahore on an emergency visit, led the mediation and met Naqvi at Gaddafi Stadium.

BCB President Aminul Islam also arrived in Lahore and met Naqvi and Khawaja.

Khawaja assured the PCB that he would present Pakistan’s position before the ICC board. Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) official Mubashir Usmani joined the talks via video link, while Sri Lanka Cricket and the Emirates board separately urged Pakistan to reconsider its decision not to play India, reports said.

According to media reports, Pakistan has demanded an increase in its share of ICC revenue and progress on the restoration of bilateral cricket with India, which the two sides have not played since 2012–13.

The reports also said Pakistan asked the ICC to ensure that on-field protocols are properly followed, citing incidents from the Asia Cup 2025, including India not shaking hands before the toss and closing the dressing room doors after winning the match.

The ICC has responded positively to demands raised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and prepared a formula to address the injustice done to Bangladesh.

Reports added that the PCB did not invite the ICC delegation; the ICC decided on its own to send a reconciliation team to Pakistan.

Mohsin Naqvi may meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday if further consultation becomes necessary.

Pakistan had earlier decided not to play against India in the T20 World Cup following government instructions, media reports said. The match, scheduled for February 15, became controversial after the PCB accused the ICC of bias in decisions involving Bangladesh.

Tensions increased after Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the direction of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCB later asked the ICC to move its matches outside India, but the ICC rejected the request due to scheduling constraints, reports added.

The ICC later replaced Bangladesh with Scotland in the tournament. Pakistan stood with Bangladesh and refused to play the high-profile match against India in Colombo in support of Dhaka.

In commercial terms, media estimates value a single Pakistan India T20 match at around $250 million, factoring in broadcast rights, advertising premiums, sponsorships, ticket sales, and related commercial activity.

‘We will show you profit’: Mohsin Naqvi takes up challenge to prove Multan Sultans makes money

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has committed to operating Multan Sultans for at least another year to silence critics who claim the franchise operates at a loss.

Speaking at a press conference following Thursday’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise auction in Islamabad, Naqvi addressed widespread speculation about the team’s finances and announced his intention to publish detailed profit figures.

“I took a challenge, and that is that there were a lot of claims on social media that the team was in losses. So I, and all of the team, decided that we will show you how much profit this business offers, publish the numbers before going for the auction,” Naqvi stated.

Naqvi acknowledged mounting pressure to sell the Sultans but maintained that his focus is on proving the franchise’s profitability.

“I’m being pressured to sell the team,” he said in a light-hearted manner.

“But my wish is to operate Multan Sultans for one year, and I’m very much hopeful that we will leave it in profit so the world gets to know that it’s a plus-plus business.”

The auction took place at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad, with 10 qualified bidders competing for the two available slots.

Meanwhile, former Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen chose not to participate in the auction. Tareen, whose group did not appear on the list of qualified bidders, explained his decision on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing the emotional significance of the franchise to his family.

“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided not to participate in today’s PSL franchise auction,” Tareen wrote.

“Our time with Multan Sultans was never just about owning a cricket team. It was about South Punjab. About giving a voice to a region that had been overlooked for too long. That’s what drove everything we built.”

The PSL completed its historic expansion, adding two new teams to the tournament.

FKS Group acquired the Hyderabad franchise for PKR 1.75 billion, while OZ Developers secured the Sialkot franchise for a record PKR 1.85 billion.

The two teams will join the competition in season 11 alongside the six existing franchises: Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United, and Multan Sultans.

‘Everything will be on equal terms with India,’ says Mohsin Naqvi

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has said that Pakistan remains firm on its stance of engaging India only on equal terms, while also working to secure the hosting rights for the Women’s World Cup.

According to reports, Mohsin Naqvi attended the PCB Inter-School Final at Niaz Stadium in Karachi on Thursday as the chief guest, where he distributed prizes among the players.

Prominent businessman Arif Habib and Pakistan men’s team captain Shan Masood also attended the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohsin Naqvi said, “We are standing by our position. We will not take the first step in anything, and any talks with India will be held strictly on equal terms.”

He added that no discussion had taken place with the team captain regarding the men’s World Cup, saying that cricket-related matters remain with the players and team management.

The PCB chairman said, “Very soon, there will be good news regarding grounds not only in Karachi but across the country.” He added that after renovation, the National Stadium in Karachi would be even more beautiful than Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

Mohsin Naqvi also announced that upgrade work at the National Stadium would begin immediately after the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Talking about grassroots cricket, he said the purpose of holding inter-school tournaments was to bring new talent to the forefront. “We will organise an event featuring winning teams and continue to identify and promote new talent,” he said.

  • Ali Tareen did a lot of work for Multan Sultans, will welcome him for new franchise: Mohsin Naqvi

Ali Tareen did a lot of work for Multan Sultans, will welcome him for new franchise: Mohsin Naqvi

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has praised Ali Tareen’s contributions to Multan Sultans during a press conference in Lahore on Sunday, saying the board will welcome him if he wants to bid for one of the two new Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises.

“Ali Tareen has done a lot of work for Multan Sultans,” Naqvi said. “If Ali Tareen wants to take a new team, we will welcome him.”

The comments come more than a month after Tareen announced his departure from Multan Sultans on November 25, 2025. His exit followed public disputes with PSL management, during which he criticized the league’s structure through podcasts and social media posts targeting specific officials. When the board sent Sultans a notice, Tareen tore it up on video and posted mocking commentary online.

Reports indicate the board asked Tareen to offer an unconditional apology and delete his social media posts, but he refused. The board subsequently offered contract renewals with revised fees to all six franchises except Sultans.

Naqvi announced that PCB will operate Multan Sultans directly for the upcoming season to ensure proper procedures. “We will run Multan Sultans ourselves to follow the proper rules,” he said. “We will auction Multan Sultans after PSL ends.”

The chairman said PCB will announce the team’s head within the next ten days.

Multan Sultans currently pays an annual fee of 1.08 billion rupees, the highest in PSL. Foreign company valuations push this figure to 1.35 billion rupees.

PCB received significant interest in the two new franchises, with ten parties qualifying to bid. “The day we sell PSL’s two new teams, we will succeed,” Naqvi said. “Both teams will go for good numbers.”

The new franchises reportedly could sell for 1.25 to 1.5 billion rupees each.

Naqvi also revealed that PCB has proposed moving PSL’s start date from March 26 to March 23, Pakistan’s national day. “If all franchises agree, we will start PSL from March 23,” he said.

“Wasim Akram will be the auctioneer on the day of the auction,” he said.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will also perform a concert during the tournament.

The 11th edition of PSL will run until May 3, 2026, featuring eight teams for the first time in the tournament’s history.

Multan Sultans joined PSL in 2017 as the sixth franchise before the third season. Schon Properties initially bought the team on an eight-year contract, but PCB terminated the agreement the following year over unpaid annual fees. The board temporarily managed all player and coach contracts before issuing tenders for new ownership rights.

In December 2018, Alamgir Khan Tareen and Ali Khan Tareen acquired ownership. Alamgir became sole owner in 2021. Following his death in 2023, Ali Tareen took over the management and led the franchise until his recent departure.

Mohsin Naqvi says passengers with complete documents will not be offloaded

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has assured that passengers with complete and valid travel documents will not be prevented from traveling abroad.

According to reports, during a visit to Lahore Airport on Tuesday, he said that no passenger with complete documents was being stopped from traveling, and none will be stopped.

“Passengers with incomplete or fake documents will, of course, not be allowed to travel.”

The minister’s remarks follow recent reports of passengers being offloaded at airports despite having valid documents. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) earlier clarified that only those without complete and legit documents were being denied travel.

Naqvi reiterated the same point on Tuesday and said, “Only passengers without genuine and complete documents will not be allowed to go abroad.”

“No passenger who could bring disrepute to the country can be allowed to travel,” he said.

Earlier, the minister also reviewed immigration procedures and examined the system linking passengers’ travel records to their national ID and passport at immigration counters.

He praised the performance of FIA Director Ali Zia and his team on the fast-track system.

Naqvi also visited immigration counters for returning Pakistani travelers and asked about the time taken for processing. They reportedly expressed satisfaction in response.

It may be noted that reports of passengers being offloaded surfaced after stricter measures were introduced following last year’s Greek ferry tragedy, which led to the deaths of several Pakistanis in illegal migration attempts.

The incident came amid reports of Pakistanis’ alleged involvement in crimes abroad, particularly in Middle Eastern countries.

Mobile location for Rs500, records for Rs2,000: Special team formed to probe massive data leak

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has formed a special team to investigate reports suggesting a massive leak of citizens’ SIM data.

“Following the interior minister’s directives, the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency has constituted a special investigation team to probe the matter and submit its report within 14 days,” read an official press release issued by the ministry.

It said that the team will thoroughly examine the circumstances, adding that those involved in the leak will be identified and brought to justice through legal action.

Earlier, media reports said that data of all consumers was being sold online, detailing that information regarding mobile location was being sold for Rs500, mobile data record for Rs2,000 and details of foreign trips for Rs5,000.

This, however, isn’t the first time that users in Pakistan are at risk of a massive data breach.

The National Cyber Emergency Response Team of Pakistan (PKCERT) in May issued an advisory warning that the login credentials of more than 180 million internet users in Pakistan had been stolen in a global breach, urging people to take immediate protective measures.

PKCERT – a federal government body responsible for safeguarding digital assets, sensitive data and critical infrastructure against cyberattacks, cyberterrorism and espionage – had identified the breach involving a publicly accessible, unencrypted file containing more than 184 million unique account credentials.

The breach reportedly exposed usernames, passwords, emails and associated URLs tied to major social media services as well as government portals, banking institutions and healthcare platforms.

The leaked database was believed to have been compiled using malware, and the data was stored in plain text – being left completely unprotected with no encryption or password safeguarding.

Mohsin Naqvi urges fans to support, not troll, Salman Ali Agha, Mohammad Haris

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has called on cricketing fans to stop trolling national team players Salman Ali Agha and Mohammad Haris, who have faced heavy criticism on social media in recent days.

Naqvi posted his remarks on X, formerly Twitter, emphasising the need for unity and support for the players during the ongoing T20I tri-series against Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“Salman and Haris deserve support, not social media trolling,” Naqvi wrote after a viral video of Haris during a rapid-fire interview sparked backlash from fans.

In the video, Haris was asked if Babar Azam should change his T20 batting style. “Yes,” he said in response. When asked whether it should be faster or slower, Haris replied, “Faster.”

The lighthearted exchange triggered strong reactions from Babar’s supporters online, leading to harsh criticism against Haris. Many accused him of disrespecting a senior player and the backlash reportedly left Haris frustrated. The same was witnessed during the match against UAE when Haris broke his bat in anger, further fueling the debate.

Salman Ali Agha has also faced scrutiny since being appointed Pakistan’s T20I captain. Critics are comparing his performance and leadership with Babar’s record, questioning his credentials.

The timing of Naqvi’s statement coincides with Pakistan’s strong start in the T20I tri-series. The national team has secured back-to-back wins against Afghanistan and the UAE, leading the table with four points. Pakistan will look to continue its winning form in the third match against Afghanistan today.

Mohsin Naqvi to give Rs1 million each to national hockey players

Federal Interior Minister and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has announced a cash reward of Rs1 million for each player of the Pakistan national hockey team.

The announcement came after Naqvi met with national hockey team captain Imad Shakeel Butt who congratulated the minister on receiving the Nishan-e-Imtiaz and briefed him about the challenges in hockey, including participation in the Pro Hockey League.

The two also discussed issues related to player welfare and rehabilitation.

Naqvi said that the PCB’s professional medical team will handle the medical and fitness cases of hockey players. “We will also resolve the visa issues of hockey players, and our logistics team will facilitate them in this regard,” he stated.

The minister praised the team for qualifying for the Pro Hockey League, calling it a matter of pride. “I will play my full part in ensuring the national team’s participation in the Pro Hockey League,” Naqvi assured.

He further pledged full support for the revival of hockey in Pakistan and reiterated his commitment to assist players at every step.

It merits mention that last month, the FIH formally invited Pakistan to feature in the Pro League after New Zealand, despite winning the Nations Cup, pulled out of the competition.

  • ‘We have footage of six downed Indian aircraft,’ says Mohsin Naqvi

‘We have footage of six downed Indian aircraft,’ says Mohsin Naqvi

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has claimed that Pakistan possesses footage showing six Indian aircraft being shot down during the night of May 6–7 this year.

Speaking at a seminar in Lahore on Sunday, Naqvi said he was directly involved in matters related to the conflict with India and had access to key information about the incident.

“The army, air force, navy and government have all been acknowledged during the past month-and-a-half, but our intelligence agencies were doing important work behind the scenes,” the interior minister said.

He stated that during the conflict, Pakistani institutions already had knowledge of India’s plans before the attacks. “We knew whatever they (India) planned, what aircraft they would use. Our intelligence agencies’ role was so important, but they do not come forward. We need to acknowledge them,” he emphasised.

Naqvi added that when the Indian aircraft were downed, the decision was taken not to make the development public until evidence was secured. “We had radar data, but we needed field evidence … Within minutes, we received video footage of all six planes, which were shot down. We have this footage.”

He recalled that Pakistan targeted Indian military installations near populated areas with missiles; however, every effort was made to avoid civilian casualties.

“We destroyed one of their biggest oil depots and there were no civilian casualties. That is when we knew that God was helping us.”

The interior minister further confirmed that Nur Khan Airbase near Rawalpindi, which was struck by Indian missiles in May, suffered no damage, adding, “We had damage at one base where a member of the air force was martyred, but that’s about it.”

‘India is like a shining Mercedes, but we are like a dumper truck loaded with stones’

The interior minister recalled that, during the conflict, a Saudi delegation visited Pakistan and met with Field Marshal and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, urging them to de-escalate tensions and avoid responding to Indian aggression.

“India is like a shining Mercedes, but we are like a dumper truck, loaded with stones; imagine what happens when the two collide,” Naqvi quoted Field Marshal Munir as telling the Saudi delegation.

According to the interior minister, the Saudi delegation members had no response to the arguments put forward by the army chief.

Following the April 22 Pahalgam incident in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), New Delhi, without presenting evidence, accused Islamabad of orchestrating the attack, a claim Pakistan strongly rejected.

The 88-hour standoff between the two countries ended on May 10, when US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Pakistan and India.

Pakistan maintains it downed six Indian aircraft during the conflict, including French-made Dassault Rafale jets, which it described as “battle-proven.” India’s top general has admitted to suffering losses in the air but denied that six planes were shot down.
