    Multan: Woman declared dead by hospital returns to life a day later

    A woman pronounced dead at Multan’s Nishtar Hospital has come back to life and walked away a day later.

    According to reports, the woman, who was brought to hospital for a gunshot wound after getting caught in crossfire, was declared dead on Tuesday and is currently being treated for her injuries after spending one night “dead”.

    Doctors are providing her proper treatment and investigating whether declaring her dead was a mistake or if she has really returned to life as in a rare situation called Near Death Experience (NDE).

    In NDE people, for all intents and purposes, die but return to life.

    Nishtar Hospital Emergency Director Dr Amjad Chandio claims the woman was not pronounced dead in the emergency room, but a death certificate was issued by the hospital.

    “It is being investigated whether a blunder was committed and by whom,” he said.

    A video of a minor driving a Land Cruiser on Multan’s Boson Road has gone viral on social media.

    While it is not clear who the child is or whose car he is driving, social media users are calling out the minor’s parents for being irresponsible. Some users also thought that either someone is helping the kid drive the car or the vehicle is automatically operated.

    One user said that she had witnessed the child drive a car herself.

    A newlywed couple on Monday had to walk six kilometres due to road blocks due to the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) jalsa in Multan.

    According to reports, the couple were at Lodhran’s Dunyapur tehsil when they encountered several barriers with police and other security personnel, asking them to stop their vehicle. The groom with his ‘barat’ had to park their cars on the side of a road from where they went to their destination on foot. 

    Shipping containers and heavy vehicles were parked at different spots around Multan as a security measure, while mobile phone services were also suspended inconveniencing locals.

    Engineering graduate from NUST sets up fruit stall during lockdown

    An engineering graduate of the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Usman Ashraf set up a fruit stall during the lockdown to support his family and gain experience.

    Speaking to Independent Urdu, Usman said that he sold fruits to learn about public interaction, customer dealing and communication skills.

    “I wanted to implement all the courses that I learnt in the university in a real-life scenario so I decided to do set up a fruit stall”, added Usman.

    Usman also wanted to learn about the difficulties that roadside vendors face daily and the challenges of the buyers.

    “During this time, I faced a lot of troubles. Sometimes people would say mean things to me but I think if a person works hard and do it with fair means then there is nothing wrong in it.”

    Usman is now looking for a job in his field.

    FIA arrests two men in Multan for harassing, blackmailing women

    The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday arrested two men for allegedly harassing and blackmailing women in Multan.

    As per reports, complaints were registered against them at the agency’s cybercrime wing.

    Objectionable videos and pictures of women were recovered from the cell phones detained from the arrested persons. They will be presented before the relevant court for further legal action.

    Earler in August, the FIA had arrested a man for allegedly blackmailing his former wife in Multan. The agency received a complaint regarding the man threatening his former wife to share obscene videos and photos of her on social media.

    A 16-year-old juice seller from Multan, Muhammad Huzaifa topped in his matriculation exam scoring 1050 marks out of 1100 last year.

    Huzaifa is the only breadwinner of his family and had to work as a fruit juice seller to take care of his family. Reportedly, the boy was offered a scholarship at a private college but he could not leave his job at the time.

    People on social media cannot stop praising Huzaifa for his efforts and hard work.

    After the post went viral on social media, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal reached out to the boy and offered him financial support for his higher education and his family.

    Managing Director of Bait-ul-Mal, Aon Abbas Buppi took to Twitter to announce that they would financially support the boy and his family so Pakistan doesn’t lose this bright student.

    The Punjab Wildlife Department recovered a pair of lions from the custody of a Multan resident and fined him Rs130,000 for the crime.

    Wildlife Department Deputy Director Hassan Ali Sukhera while talking to APP said that a team of the department recovered the lions from a house in Khushhal Colony on May 30 in a raid that was conducted after obtaining search warrants.

    The lions were found kept in a bathroom after which the owner was punished with a fine worth Rs130,000 for violating the breeding farm rules and guidelines under Punjab Wildlife Act.

    Former special assistant to prime minister (SAPM) on information and broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan was refused government-owned residence in Multan for an overnight stay, Geo reported.

    The former SAPM travelled to Multan from Karachi in a car and was accompanied by friends and a maid. However, reports said, upon arrival at a government-owned circuit house in Multan, she was refused entry by the night guard who said that she was not a public office holder anymore. Firdous asked the guard for a Sehri meal but was refused again and had to send her driver to the market to purchase a meal.

    The former SAPM exchanged hot words with the lower staff of the government residence and tried to get in touch with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) District President Khalid Javed Warraich and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amir Khattak, but their phones were switched off.

    The news outlet reported that when the caretaker of the official residence was contacted, he said that there was no advance booking and the lower staff did not have the authority to allot a room to someone not holding a public office. He added that when he reached the circuit house in the morning on Sunday, Firdous had already left for Lahore.

    Despite calls for self-isolation and social distancing and the imposition of Section 144 in Punjab, a wedding in Multan went ahead as planned following which the groom was arrested for not abiding by the rules.

    According to reports, officials on Monday were informed that a wedding reception was being held at Nasir Public School. Deputy Commissioner Amir Khattak ordered a team to launch a crackdown on the wedding. Upon reaching the venue, officials arrested the groom who was standing outside the hall to welcome his guests. Police began to remove all the tents at the site and called off the function. An FIR was registered against the groom as well as the principal of the school, Bilal Dogar, for organising the event.

    Meanwhile, following a sharp increase in cases of coronavirus in Pakistan, the government has imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in Punjab for the next three weeks. In a bid to stop the virus from spreading further, the government has also ordered citizens to voluntarily self-isolate and not congregate.

    Politicians, celebrities and health experts are also appealing to the people to practise self-isolation and social distancing.
