PTI activist charged with threats, violence against Sharif family in London

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Gulfam Hussain has been charged with issuing threats to the members of the Sharif family as well as carrying out violent acts against them in London, Geo News reported.

The report quoted sources as claiming that the PTI activist had been taken into police custody as the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) charged him. The action came after Hussain was apprehended four days ago for breaching police conditions and going near the Sharif family flats on the day former premier Nawaz Sharif reached London.

He will appear in court within the next two days, the report quoted sources as claiming.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) United Kingdom (UK) Youth Wing leader Khurram Butt, the same person who had previously petitioned Oxford University against former prime minister Imran Khan’s bid to become the chancellor, is the original complainant.

“Gulfam has been charged by the CPS. The CPS has confirmed that Hussain has been charged with violence, stalking and harassment. This sends out a clear message that anyone involved in violence will be brought to justice. I had provided the full trail of evidence to the police, showing involvement of Hussain in violence, stalking, harassment and threats,” Butt said.

Hussain, who had defected from the PML-N to join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) last year, had also been running a social media campaign against the members of the Sharif family. He used to go live on TikTok every day and had quit his job as a trained chef to focus on live social media shows.

On January 17, police had arrested him for threatening to harm PM Shehbaz Sharif, ex-PM Nawaz and other members of the Sharif family, including a threat to blow up the Park Lane flats — live on TikTok.

Scotland Yard had later released Hussain on bail; however, it had banned him from going anywhere near the Avenfield flats.

“The police have banned me from going near the Sharif family’s Avenfield flats or I will be arrested again. I am on bail till April. The police arrested and showed me videos I uploaded on TikTok. These were political statements. I don’t believe in violence. I will continue my struggle,” he had told Geo News after his release.

Nawaz Sharif was removed wrongfully, says Sher Afzal Marwat

Maverick leader Sher Afzal Marwat on Monday claimed that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif was wrongfully removed, alluding to his 2017 disqualification from power over undeclared assets.

Speaking on a private media channel, Marwat asserted, “Definitely, Nawaz Sharif was wrongfully removed. Removing him for not receiving a salary from his son was [unjustified],” adding that Sharif could have been disqualified in the Panama Papers case or the Avenfield case instead.

When told that such remarks might displease many of his companions, Marwat said, “I cannot tell a lie merely to make my party happy. I am a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Pakistan; I know that [Nawaz Sharif’s ouster] decision was not right.”

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) firebrand further alleged that former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General (r) Qamar Javed Bajwa was involved in orchestrating Sharif’s removal from office, noting that ex-Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar facilitated Bajwa.

“You [Marwat] were a beneficiary [of Nawaz Sharif’s removal from power]. One should acknowledge that,” the talk show host said. In response, Marwat asked, “Why are you saying that I was the beneficiary?” adding that he was speaking about Nawaz Sharif not as a PTI leader but as a lawyer.

When asked who was involved in his expulsion from PTI, the maverick leader, without naming anyone, said that the same party leaders who had previously expelled him were behind his recent ouster. “If I announce their names, then [Imran] Khan would be grieved. Khan knows very well who expelled me.”

It should be noted that PTI issued a notification of Marwat’s expulsion on Wednesday via X (formerly Twitter), which reads, “Further to the Show Cause Notice issued to Mr Sher Afzal Marwat and his subsequent reply, the party has considered his reply and also his actions subject to the Show Cause notice.”

“Taking both these aspects into consideration and on the instructions of Founding Chairman Imran Khan, Mr. Sher Afzal Marwat is being expelled from the party with immediate effect.”

Revealing that the incarcerated party founder has summoned him to Adiala Jail for a meeting, Marwat said he would visit Imran Khan soon.

“I will not take even a minute to resign,” Marwat responded when asked what he would do if Imran Khan demanded his resignation from the National Assembly, adding that he would not beg to be reinstated in the party.

We prepared Nawaz Sharif’s platelet report at home: Faisal Vawda

Senator Faisal Vawda has revealed another piece of inside information from the time of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) government, alleging that party members prepared the medical reports of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif.

“We were sitting at home and preparing Nawaz Sharif’s platelet report,” the former PTI leader claimed, referring to the 2019 medical reports of the then-imprisoned Sharif, which stated that he was suffering from a “serious immune disorder” after which he had fled to England for treatment.

A six-member medical board, headed by Services Hospital Principal Ayaz Mahmood, had reportedly diagnosed the cause of Sharif’s declining health as “acute immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), a bleeding disorder in which the immune system destroys platelets.”

Vawda, however, has now questioned Nawaz’s medical reports. He also taunted former PML-N leader Muhammad Zubair, saying, “We did you a favour at that time. At least be thankful for that.”

PML-N member Javed Latif contradicted Vawda’s claim, saying, “The first thing I need to clarify is that General Pasha, General Zaheer, General Raheel Sharif, General Faiz, and General Bajwa all conspired against Nawaz Sharif by propping up Saqib Nisar.

“Secondly, Vawda stated that the PML-N government couldn’t stand against the establishment because it was already in bad condition. I want to point out that after the 8 February election results, we couldn’t get a simple majority. So who supported us? Now, after seeking our cooperation, they will taunt us for being in a bad condition?”

Anchor Kamran Shahid asked former minister Latif whether Vawda’s claims about Nawaz’s medical reports were true, to which he replied, “It is completely a lie.”

These claims, however, are not new. “This is not something that I’m saying for the first time; I’ve said it before in cabinet meetings as well,” he recalled.

Vawda has also recently hinted at the “removal of one of the provincial governors very soon.”

“A provincial governor will be in troubled waters soon, and his time is up,” he said on Aiteraz Hai on ARY News last Friday, without naming the person in question.

“The governor in question has been selling his name, making money, and telling lies. Now, his turn has come, and he has to go home soon,” he added.

Vawda further strongly criticised the country’s provincial government, saying, “Apart from Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, no CM is even capable of writing a paragraph in English.”

  • Archenemies? Fakhar Durrani reveals why former judge Ijazul Ahsan disliked the Sharifs

Archenemies? Fakhar Durrani reveals why former judge Ijazul Ahsan disliked the Sharifs

The News’ Fakhar Durrani has published a detailed investigative report which points out the reasons behind former Justice of the Supreme Court Ijazul Ahsan’s alleged bias against the Sharif family.

According to The News report, there were reportedly two quite old incidents that may have fueled the judge’s prejudice against the Sharifs, which reflected in his judgements against the family.

One incident was nearly 25 years old when the judge’s brother, Major (R) Izaharul Ahsan, was a highly-paid employee as the head of marketing at Ittefaq Foundry in Lahore. In the late 1990’s, Hussain Nawaz, the elder son of Nawaz Sharif, took charge of Ittefaq Foundry. He reviewed the performance of the senior management team, including Izhar ul Ahsan.

It was reported that Hussain Nawaz was unsatisfied with Izharul Ahsan’s performance, which was below average, and this led to his immediate removal.

In 2013-14, Izhar ul Ahsan visited the Sharif family’s steel mill in Saudi Arabia, bringing along some businessmen. However, he entered Hussain Nawaz’s office without prior notice or an appointment at which Hussain took offence. This incident added fuel to the fire between the Ahsans and the Sharifs.

Durrani reported that the second incident was rather more interesting and recent as the former judge is a neighbour of the Sharifs in Model Town, Lahore. Since 2008, while the Sharifs held power in Punjab, subsequent security protocols remained high. Logically, it created hindrances for other home owners – one of whom was the then Lahore High Court judge.

After the Sharif family lost power in 2018, Justice (R) Ijazul Ahsan ordered the removal of all security barriers around their home. To send a message, he installed the same barriers at his own residence, where they stayed until Imran Khan was in power. This move reflected his ongoing grudge against the Sharif family.

Durrani wrote that according to his sources, the security issues and the firing of Justice Ijazul Ahsan’s brother from a lucrative position fueled his resentment towards the Sharif family, which was clear in his comments and rulings against them.

Those who orchestrated the Sharifs’ removal in 2017 recognised his personal grievances, which is why they ensured his inclusion in the Panama case bench, wrote the reporter.

After the Panama case, the judge was also appointed as the monitoring judge to oversee the Sharif family’s trial in the Accountability Court. Sources say his anger towards the Sharifs was evident in his actions, as he frequently summoned NAB officials working on the case. He guided them on how to file references and what evidence to present against the Sharifs.

Nawaz recites poetry but butchers the sher; Maulana Fazlur Rehman corrects him

In a historic yet controversial move, the coalition government successfully passed the 26th Amendment on the dawn of October 21, aimed at judicial reforms, with the Prime Minister calling it a “historic achievement.”

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Nawaz Sharif was also present on the floor of the National Assembly. However, instead of giving a long speech, the former Prime Minister recited a couplet to express his feelings.

Addressing the floor, he said, “The suffering I’ve been subjected to at the hands of judiciary can only be described through this poetry: Naazo Andaaz se kehte hain ke jeena hoga, zehr bhi dete hain tu kehte hain ke peena hoga, jab main peeta hu tu kehte hain ke marta bhi nai aur jab main marta hu tu kehte hain ke jeena hoga.”

Nawaz sat down after reciting the stanza amidst smiles from lawmakers. However, in a funny turn of events, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazal ur Rehman, while laughing, addressed the floor: “ You [Nawaz Sharif] have quoted wonderful poetry, but you’ve made a mistake. The word ‘tu’ should never be added for emphasis because then the poetry gets ruined.”

The bill was initially presented in the National Assembly during a late-night session beginning at 11:36 PM, but it was extended past midnight, and the bill was finally passed at 5 AM.

The coalition government required 224 votes to pass the bill. As the voting began, 225 MNAs supported the motion, with 12 members from the PTI and the SIC opposing the motion.

Nawaz Sharif hopeful about meeting Narendra Modi soon

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday expressed his desire to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the near future to advocate for better relations with the neighbouring country.

During an interview with an Indian journalist, Barkha Dutt, ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Islamabad, Sharif said, “It would have been a great thing if PM [Narendra] Modi had also attended the SCO summit. I do hope that he and us will have an opportunity to sit together in the not-so-distant future.”

Pak-India relations have gone through upheavals over the last few decades but the 2019 Indian decision to revoke the ‘special status’ of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir downgraded diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Since then, Pakistan has made it a condition to reverse the decision before any talks of normalisation of relations between the two countries.

Nawaz Sharif slams KP govt over lack of basic facilities

Former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has slammed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government for its performance, stating that the province lacks basic facilities.

Speaking at a ceremony in Lahore, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif compared Punjab government’s performance to the KP government, urging the people to ask their representatives what they have done to serve them.

Responding to recent protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Punjab, he compared them to Central Asian barbarians and added, “They (PTI) came to Punjab with tear gas so that they could threaten the police and spread chaos.”

Meanwhile, citing the reason for the government’s effort to present constitutional amendments in parliament this week, journalist Raees Ansari told Geo News that Nawaz Sharif had postponed his visit to America and London.

He further said that the incumbent government is waiting for the Supreme Court’s verdict regarding the reserved seats before tabling the twenty-sixth amendments in parliament.

‘Boot ko izzat ko’; Imran lashes out at Nawaz

Former Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has lashed out at ruling party Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) head Nawaz Sharif, stating that [he took] the fastest U-turn, turning the slogan “vote ko izzat do” into “boot ko izzat do”.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) Khan repeated what he had said to journalists in Adiala jail earlier in the day.

He wrote that PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif had taken so many U-turns on his narrative that it could break the Guineas Book World Record.

The founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) told journalists that federal ministers start ranting whenever PTI hints at dialogue over the May 9 event, stressing that he is always open to dialogue, even with the incumbent government.

Talking about the September 8 rally at Islamabad, Khan stated, “We want the return of our stolen mandate, getting rid of the ‘qabza group’ and independence of the judiciary.”

“It will be an honour for Pakistan to have an Oxford University chancellor; if I doesn’t make it, it doesn’t matter,” he concluded.

Captain Safdar urges Nawaz Sharif to hold Panama case judges accountable

Captain Muhammad Safdar Awan has urged former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif to hold former Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, and Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan accountable for the unlawful verdict in the Panama case, he said in a gathering with locals.

He said, “If Nawaz Sharif doesn’t hold Panama judges accountable, the public will never forgive him.”

He added, “The public wants Panama bench judges in handcuffs along with former CJP Saqib Nisar.”
He requested his father-in-law to arrest former Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and charge five Panama judges with impunity.

He further said, “Pakistan would have become an Asian tiger if Panama judges did not remove Nawaz.”

Earlier, the apex court of Pakistan declared former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif guilty in the Panama case verdict and sentenced ten years imprisonment with a 10.6 million dollar fine.

  • Army officer seized PTV van to stop coverage of Nawaz Sharif’s Kakul visit, claims Senator Irfan Siddiqui

Army officer seized PTV van to stop coverage of Nawaz Sharif’s Kakul visit, claims Senator Irfan Siddiqui

Senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member and senator Irfan Siddiqui has revealed on Hum News programme that when Nawaz Sharif was invited to Kakul Academy’s passing out parade as the chief guest in 2014, the PM’s live broadcast was taken off air by the army.

Senator recalled, “It was soon after his [Gen Raheel} appointment in November 2013, and the passing out parade was in April (2014). The PM [Nawaz Sharif] invited me as well, along with some cabinet members.”

Siddiqui said that when he returned home, his family members asked him why he wasn’t shown on TV.

When the senator inquired from PML-N leader Pervez Rashid about their absence from live coverage, Rashid told Siddiqui: “Some officer had taken control of PTV’s van. He dictated what could go on live coverage and what couldn’t.”

Irfan Siddiqui also stated that Pervez Rashid who was the federal minister of Information at the time wrote a letter to ISPR demanding an explanation but he did not get a reply.

“At that time DG ISPR was Asim Saleem Bajwa. Bajwa created a whole machinery to create a greater than life public image of Gen Raheel and the Prime Minister could not be shown along with Gen Raheel,” said the PML-N leader.

The senator stated that he was concerned at the fact that the new Army Chief was just appointed, so this incident alerted him.
