PCB shares the reason for dropping Babar Azam from the team

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has shared the reason behind dropping Babar Azam from the team for the remaining matches against England.

According to Geo, the Cricket Board has said that four top players, including former captain Babar Azam, have been rested so that they can come back refreshed.

According to the PCB spokesperson, Babar Azam is the best batsman of his generation, and the board wants a mentally refreshed Babar to represent Pakistan in the future. Picking the squad for the upcoming Test against England has been a challenging task for the selectors, who had to consider the current form of the players, the urgency of returning to the series and Pakistan’s 2024-25 international schedule.

Keeping these factors in mind and in the best interest of Pakistan cricket and its players, it has been decided to rest Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

The spokesperson further said that PCB is providing opportunities to our young players and domestic performers to showcase their skills against the strong England team. The cricket board believes that Haseebullah, Mehran Mumtaz, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Ali, Nauman, Sajid and Zahid each can seize the opportunity and serve the team in the remaining two Test matches.

The spokesperson said that PCB also has to focus on developing the next generation of its Test players, and this series is an opportunity to induct youngsters into the team.

Pakistan has announced their squad for the second and third matches against England, and Babar, Naseem, and Shaheen have been rested for the remaining matches.

However, aggressive batsman Fakhar Zaman has criticized PCB for dropping Babar Azam.

Fakhar Zaman slams PCB’s decision to drop Babar Azam

National cricketer Fakhar Zaman has severely criticized Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to drop former captain Babar Azam in the second and third Test matches against England.

Fakhar wrote on X sitting Indian star cricketer Virat Kohli, “It’s concerning to hear suggestions about dropping Babar Azam. India didn’t bench Virat Kohli during his rough stretch between 2020 and 2023, when he averaged 19.33, 28.21, and 26.50, respectively.”

“If we are considering sidelining our premier batsman, arguably the best Pakistan has ever produced, it could send a deeply negative message across the team. There is still time to avoid pressing the panic button; we should focus on safeguarding our key players rather than undermining them,” he wrote.

The Pakistan squad for the second and third Tests against England was announced on Sunday, while Babar Azam, Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi have been dropped from the team.

  • From Words to War: Iran Attack Israel, October 2024

From Words to War: Iran Attack Israel, October 2024

On 1 October 2024, Iran attack Israel. Iran launched nearly 200 Fattah-1 and Kheibar Shekan ballistic missiles in the direction of Israel. Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced on Tuesday that it targeted Israel as retaliation for Israeli airstrikes on Gaza and southern Lebanon as well as the killing of Iranian, Hamas, and Hezbollah military figures.

On Tuesday, Israel found itself in a position of engaging in fights on three separate fronts, fighting Hamas in the south of Gaza and Hezbollah in the north of Lebanon and fending off an Iranian missile.

There were air raid sirens and explosions lit up the night sky, followed by loud booms, all of which were due to the Israeli interception of Iranian missiles. Meanwhile, Israel’s military spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, confirmed that though the majority of Iranian missiles were shot down, several missiles struck central and southern Israel.

Following this April attack, this was Iran’s second attack on Israel this year. Let’s discuss essential information about this new chapter in the Iran-Israel conflict and see how this conflict goes from words to war.

Details About What Happened on 1 October 2024 – Iran Attack Israel

    • It is still unknown what the exact aim of Iran attack Israel was. However, the IRGC later noticed it stated that the rockets were directed at ‘important military and security objectives’ within the area of Israel.
    • The IRGC declared that the attack was primarily targeted at three military bases in the Tel Aviv area.
    • According to reports released by Iran’s state media, the attack included a strong cyberattack and the Iranian military’s first use of Fatah hypersonic ballistic missiles.
    • The Israeli army insisted that it had managed to intercept most of the 180 missiles fired at it by Iran. However, northern and southern Israel sustained ‘isolated’ damages. The IRGC declared that 90% of the missiles may reach their destruction targets.
    • Domestic US military officials stated that Mr. Sullivan validated the reaching condition, whereby the US military actively collaborated with Israel to attempt to shoot down the following missiles.
    • No civilian deaths were recorded in Israel, Mr. Sullivan reported to the press from the White House.

Why did Iran launch Missiles on Israel?

The IRCG indicated in its statement that the Iran attack Israel missiles was an answer to the airborne international forces who performed what it calls the “violation of Iran’s sovereignty and the martyrdom” of Hamas POLITBURO ENVOY ISMAIL HANIYEH. He died after an explosion that the Iranians attributed to Israel, while the Israelis did not accept responsibility for it. The statement about the missile attack maintained that it was directed “in the action of proper self-defense of the nation.”

Moreover, it also stated that the attack was a response to Israel’s air presence over the southern parts of Beiriut a week ago that took the lives of top Hezbollah commander Sayyid Hassan Nasrullah and Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan. They command the military Qods unit.

This outbreak of the war came only a few hours after Israeli soldiers entered southern Lebanon. It was claimed that there were “Hezbollah terror targets” in border towns that could attack northern Israel’s peasant dwellers from the villages.

Israel has shifted their position from their previous defensive one during the war with Hamas. It has started offensive operations on the Shia Islamist political organization and the military organization, too. It had been almost a year since the start of the persistent cross-border armed conflict that followed the outbreak of war with Hamas in Gaza. Hezbollah and Hamas are supported by Iran and labeled as terrorist groups.

    Israel’s Reaction to Missile Attack

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared at the cabinet meeting that the missile attack of the Iranian side is ‘failed.’ He also said that it was a huge mistake that the Iranians made.

“Our will to defend ourselves and exact revenge on our enemies is something the Iranian regime does not understand,” he added.

Yoav Gallant, the defense minister, put it in more straightforward words. ‘Iran simply does not understand that every aggressor who begins a war against the state of Israel and within his action is going to be quickly punished and is going to pay a heavy price.’

Defense Capabilities of Israel and Iran

Following Iran attack Israel, there is a chance of increased conflict. So, we are going to discuss the defense capabilities of each nation.

    Military Spendings

In April 2024, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) released the following fact sheet:

Iran has increased its military budget from 10.2 billion US dollars in 2022 to 10.3 billion in 2023.

Israel’s military expenditure for 2023 has reached 27.5 billion US$, 24 percent more than the amount spent in 2022. It is partly an increase due to the war in Gaza that started on the 7th of October.

    Ground Forces

While Iran possesses around 10513 battle tanks and 6798 artillery guns, its battle strength includes more than 640 armored personnel carriers. The Iranian army has 50 Deth helicopters, while the IRGC comprises 5.

Israel has 400 battle tanks, 530 artillery guns, and 1190 personal carriers.

    Air Force

Iran boasts 312 combat soldiers in aviation, while the IRGC contains 23 fighter jets. The air force of the opposing party has two ground attack helicopters, the army has 50, and the IRGC has 5.

Israel maintains 345 military offensive aircraft and 43 helicopters, specifically armored for combat.

    Navy

The Iranian Navy owns 17 tactical submarines, 68 patrols and escort craft, 9 frigates, 12 landing craft, 11 ships for attack, and 18 boats for repairs and auxiliary use.

Israel owns 5 submarines and has 49 patrol and coastal fighters.

    Missile Weapons

Iran possesses at least 12 missiles with medium and short range. Of these missiles, several are like the Tondar 69, which has a range of 150 km (93 miles). Furthermore, Khorramshahr and Sejjil range up to 2,000 km (1243 miles).

The Israeli arsenal shows at least four sets of interceptors, respectively, capable of destroying small, medium, and intermediate-range missiles in a linear progression from LORA hitting targets at 280 km (174 m) to Jericho 3 hitting targets between 4800 km (2983 m) and 6500 km (4039 m).

What has been the International Response to this conflict?

The adviser to the Biden administration, while briefing the reporters, mentioned that “there will be consequences and severe consequences. They will work with Israel to make that the case against Iran.”

Omar Rahman, a fellow member at the Middle East Council on Global Affairs, said, “There is no question that one will come. Israel will match that action.” “You are going to get into the kind of conclusive action. He also said it is a reciprocal action that makes for getting into a bigger war.

  • Meta unveils star-studded AI assistants

    Meta unveils star-studded AI assistants

Meta launched AI chatbots voiced by Hollywood celebrities like John Cena and Judi Dench on Wednesday, betting that its billions of users are eager to embrace artificial intelligence.

“I think that voice has the potential to be one of, if not the most frequent ways, that we all interact with AI,” said Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the company’s annual product presentation event. “It is just a lot better,” he said.

The deployment comes months after OpenAI previewed its own ChatGPT voice feature, which drew controversy for its similarity to actress Scarlett Johansson’s voice.

Meta has obtained permission from the stars featured in its new voice tool, which will be available on Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. However, Meta AI won’t be accessible in Europe due to concerns about compliance with EU data protection laws and potential fines.

Meta’s AI relies on content and data from its platforms’ legions of users, a practice that involves numerous obligations and safeguards in Europe.

    400 million users

Like ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini, Meta AI is an AI assistant that answers questions, creates images, writes messages and even provides companionship.

This new version builds on the initial release unveiled a year ago. Meta reports that over 400 million people already consult Meta AI at least once a month, and the company aims to make it “the most widely used AI assistant by the end of the year.” Critics, however, point out that many users stumble into MetaAI inadvertently, as it has replaced the search function on apps such as WhatsApp.

Since ChatGPT’s breakthrough, major tech companies have been rapidly developing AI applications capable of producing high-quality content from simple queries.

Competition is fierce, with Google and Microsoft having a head start in productivity features, and Apple entering the market with AI-capable iPhones. However, these models require substantial technical infrastructure, energy, and skilled engineers, significantly impacting company resources.

Meta believes its enhanced assistant sounds more natural, can interact verbally, and analyze images. Like other chatbots, it can suggest recipes from food photos or edit images based on simple user requests.

Despite concerns about heavy spending on AI and virtual reality, Meta’s profits have soared, with its share price up 60 per cent since the beginning of the year. The company’s success rides on strong advertising results.

But the social media giant’s heavy spending on AI and virtual reality technology has always been a concern for investors and observers. “When I think about AI, Meta is not necessarily the first brand that comes to mind,” Creative Strategies analyst Carolina Milanesi said.

“And their biggest hurdle is going to be privacy and trust: a lot of consumers will have issues with trusting that the data is not being used for other reasons.”

  • The Architect of Change: Fasih Ur Rehman’s Green Entertainment

The Architect of Change: Fasih Ur Rehman’s Green Entertainment

Leadership is a delicate balance of vision, courage, and discipline. As George Washington said, “True leadership is not just about having a vision; it’s about possessing the will and discipline to turn that vision into reality.” Without discipline, even the grandest vision can fall short. Real success requires relentless dedication, clear goals, and the courage to forge a new path.

Fasih Ur Rehman, the 27-year-old CEO of Green Entertainment, exemplifies this leadership style. As a rising star in Pakistan’s media landscape, Fasih has applied his engineering background to his media ventures, blending seemingly unrelated fields to achieve a remarkable impact.

Fasih’s story begins far from the spotlight of media. Born into a family with deep roots in construction and real estate, his early career trajectory seemed set. However, during his time at Oregon State University, where he pursued a degree in construction engineering, a deep-seated interest in media quietly brewed. Exposure to global perspectives and diverse thought leaders broadened his understanding of leadership and innovation, and he became fascinated by the media’s power to influence public opinion and inspire societal change.

Fasih’s leadership qualities were honed through various experiences, including his role as a state-level soccer player and Treasurer of the Pakistan Student Association at OSU. These roles taught him the value of discipline, teamwork, and strategic thinking—attributes that would later prove invaluable in his professional journey. He believed that building a media platform, much like construction, required a strong foundation and an unyielding focus on quality and execution.

Green Entertainment was born out of Fasih’s desire to fill a glaring gap in Pakistan’s media industry. He envisioned a platform that would not only entertain but also challenge societal norms, educate viewers, and promote positive change. Launched in July 2023, Green Entertainment quickly carved out a niche for itself with fresh, bold content that tackled important topics such as women’s empowerment, mental health, and the struggles of minorities in Pakistan.

Despite speculation, Green Entertainment is not backed by the ISPR (Inter-Services Public Relations). The channel is solely founded and operated by Fasih ur Rehman, whose vision for the platform is entirely his own. This independence has allowed him to pursue an unfiltered approach to content creation, free from external influences. For Fasih, Green Entertainment is a platform for societal growth and empowerment, providing a space for emerging talent and sparking important conversations.

Fasih envisions Green Entertainment as more than just a local media leader. He aims to position the platform on the global stage, showcasing Pakistan’s rich cultural tapestry to international audiences. By doing so, he hopes to elevate societal values and contribute to a broader dialogue about media’s role in shaping public consciousness.

In Fasih ur Rehman, Pakistan has found a leader who bridges the gap between tradition and innovation. His journey from construction engineer to media mogul is a testament to the transformative power of vision, discipline, and courage. Green Entertainment is just the beginning—a platform for societal change, a tool for empowerment, and a powerful reminder of the media’s potential to inspire. Fasih’s story underscores a universal truth: leadership is not defined by the industry you’re in, but by the impact you strive to create.

  • Six bidders pre-qualified for PIA auction on October 1

Six bidders pre-qualified for PIA auction on October 1

The privatisation commission said that the auction for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will take place on October 1.

Six bidders have already been qualified, including Fly Jinnah, a YB Holdings-led consortium, Air Blue Limited, a Pak Ethanol-led consortium, Arif Habib Corporation, and Blue World City.

PIA has been dealing with a crippling debt load, which is estimated at around Rs800 billion ($2.9 billion). The government has intervened with multiple loans to support the airline’s daily operations, but the financial pressure has persisted.

Earlier, the government targeted completing the PIA privatisation by August 14. However, delays surfaced as bidders requested updated financial data, including audited accounts, aircraft lease agreements, and details about the airline’s suspended routes.

It is worth noting that PIA flights to Europe have been grounded for nearly four years, after safety concerns that arose after a plane crashed in Karachi in 2020, which claimed 97 lives and prompted a European Union Aviation Safety Agency ban.

According to Express News, the decision to privatise the airline is part of a bigger plan supported by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which has been urging Pakistan to divest its loss-making state-owned enterprises if wants to stabilise the struggling economy.

Discussions are ongoing about restoring PIA’s European routes, with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar recently stressing that resolving the issue remains a “top priority” following a five-day visit to London.

The drama serial ‘Mere Paas Tum Ho’, aired on ARY Digital in 2019, was a blockbuster and was written by the controversial Khalil ur Rehman. It was not only appreciated but also criticized for portraying the lead character as a greedy, gold-digger woman.

Recently, Khan expressed her feelings during a fund-raising event for Palestine in the UK and said, “the role of ‘Mehwish’ in the drama serial ‘Mere Paas Tum Ho’ made me respect my husband Danish Taimoor more than ever and taught me to appreciate him more.”
