‘Do not twist my words’: Ushna Shah clarifies stance after backlash on Charlie Kirk condolence

Pakistani actress Ushna Shah has issued a clarification following backlash over her recent remarks on the death of right-wing hatemonger Charlie Kirk, requesting media outlets to share her statement in full and not out of context

She also emphasised the gravity of her message and its alignment with her long-standing support for the Palestinian cause.

“I have been one of the loudest Pro-Palestinian voices in our industry since day one,” Shah wrote in an Instagram post, adding that she did so even at the cost of her reach, work, family’s work and safety.

“For the sake of clicks, please do not twist my words or silence one of the few voices that has openly called out the perpetrator of this genocide. Keep the context intact: not just for me, but for the cause we all stand by.”

In her post, Shah explained the strategic importance of engaging with public figures and platforms, even those who may be ideologically opposed.

“Public voices matter, even when they oppose us. Debate changes minds. When podcasters and commentators give us their platforms and we challenge them with truth, we do more than just shut them down. We reach their followers, and that is how minds are changed. That is why these voices — including Charlie Kirk and Piers Morgan — matter.”

In the second slide of her post, she directly addressed Kirk’s death, saying, “I disagreed with Charlie Kirk, especially on Palestine. But a young father shot in cold blood is a tragedy. In the days before his death, he had begun mildly criticising Israel. Sources close to him reportedly said he feared Israel would kill him. We had started to see a slight shift in him, and Megyn Kelly as well, as they began questioning Israel more openly. Now he is gone.”

In her final slide, Shah expressed concern for Candace Owens’ safety due to her outspoken criticism of Israel. “I fear for Candace Owens’s safety, because she has openly criticised Israel not only for the genocide but also for the occupation since day one. Tucker Carlson has also been an imperative right-wing voice for our cause. Celebrating murder for words makes us no different than those we condemn.”

“My fight is with IOF soldiers and complicit governments, not with public speakers. Charlie did not deserve to die this way,” Shah concluded her message with a firm reiteration of her stance.

The actress had previously faced criticism for expressing grief over Kirk’s death.

  • ‘Why can’t we be romantic’: Asma Abbas wants older women to have different roles

‘Why can’t we be romantic’: Asma Abbas wants older women to have different roles

During a recent candid appearance on Ushna Shah’s talk show, veteran actress Asma Abbas shed light on the lack of romantic representation for older women in Pakistani television dramas and questioned the stereotypes surrounding married life in desi culture.

“We’re very chill. Why can’t we have love stories,” she asked rhetorically. “Bushra Aapa got married, Samina Aapa got married… why can’t we be romantic? Have we been reduced to just arranging tea,” she said, referring to veteran actresses Bushra Ansari and Samina Ahmed, both of whom got remarried at a later age in life.

The actress expressed frustration over how television rarely shows mature couples engaging in lighthearted or romantic conversations.

“A husband and wife can have romantic conversations too. It’s not necessary that they only talk about children’s issues. Have you ever seen a husband in any drama say to his wife, ‘Let’s go for a drive’ or ‘Let’s go out for tea’? I don’t like what’s currently being shown,” she said.

Ushna asked what sort of roles she likes more, to which she replied, “I like to play serious roles. Thank God that I was given a chance in one or two shows but I think if I can do comedy, then I can do written comedy. Bushra Aapa’s talent comes from inside, I don’t have that much. I am not like her, I enjoy more serious roles.”

Ushna asked Asma if she had ever found a fellow actor attractive. “Yes, I can say that I might have, but there’s no one specific,” Asma responded honestly. Ushna pressed further, suggesting actor Farhan Ali Agha as an example. Asma smiled and said, “He’s younger than me and looks very decent. I look at him more like a younger brother.”

When Ushna brought up names like Humayun Saeed and Adnan Siddiqui, Asma replied humorously: “They won’t accept it! Behroze Bhai might, but what kind of romance can you create with him? If I ever said something romantic to him, he’d say, ‘You’ll get a slap from me!’” She added, laughing, “But he’s very cute,” of the actor who’s mostly played comedy roles.

On the mention of the debonair Javed Sheikh, Asma was full of praise: “Yes, Javed Bhai is very dashing.”

Asma also spoke about her ongoing show titled Punjabi Kuriyaan (Punjabi Girls), where she plays the lead in a cultural talk-show format called Asma Aapa Ka Verra (Asma Aapa’s Courtyard). She invites guests and mentors two young, spirited girls named Chanko and Manko, who are depicted as relatives learning life skills under her guidance.

“This show is very close to my heart,” she said with visible affection.

Saboor Aly opens up about emotional journey into motherhood

Pakistani actress Saboor Aly has, for the first time, opened up about her emotional journey into motherhood, revealing details about her pregnancy and the birth of her daughter Serena Ali.

In a heartfelt conversation with fellow actress Aymen Saleem, Saboor reflected on the deeply personal and transformative experience.

Saboor, who tied the knot with actor Ali Ansari in 2022, welcomed her daughter Serena on March 18, 2025. The couple announced the birth publicly the following day, March 19, via social media.

Recalling the moment when she discovered she was pregnant, Saboor revealed that she was on a girls’ trip abroad when she began to feel unwell. “A sensation unlike anything I had felt before. Coincidentally, Ali was set to join me that day in Turkey,” she said.

“We were not planning for a baby specifically. We had left it to the flow of life, believing that only Allah knows the right time to bring someone into your life,” she said. “When Ali arrived, the first thing I did was tell him the news. It was a very emotional moment for me.”

Following the revelation, Saboor felt an intense desire to return home. “I knew once I got home, everything would be fine. My home is my safe space,” she shared.

When asked about her initial reaction to finding out she was expecting, Saboor described it as a “mixed feeling”. She said she was shivering and anxious, eagerly awaiting Ali’s arrival to share the news. “But when I saw the test report, my mother was the first person who came to my mind,” she added.

Reflecting on the absence of her late mother, Saboor shared a deeply emotional insight, “No one can fill her absence, but throughout my pregnancy, delivery, and even after, everything somehow became easier. I believe she was there with me in spirit. That’s the only reason it all felt so manageable.”

Despite being someone who enjoys surprises, Saboor chose not to make a grand reveal due to how she was feeling. She called only her sister-in-law Mariyum Ansari and her sister, Sajal Aly, to her place. Interestingly, Sajal had already sensed something. “She just texted me and asked, ‘Are you pregnant?’ She had a feeling somehow,” Saboor recalled.

Saboor also shared a touching moment from when the family found out. While Ali was playing with his niece, he casually said, “Will you play with your cousin brother or sister?” prompting a wave of surprise and joy from everyone present. “It was a very emotional moment,” she said.

Addressing rumors circulating online, Saboor expressed frustration over questions raised by some social media users about whether her daughter was adopted. She strongly refuted the speculation, showing visible anger over the baseless assumptions.

A celebrated actress known for her versatility, Saboor has delivered memorable performances in popular Pakistani dramas such as Fitrat, Parizaad, Mushkil and Sar-e-Rah. She also made a mark on the big screen with her role in the film Actor in Law.

Actor Asma Abbas has opened up about her battle with cancer and shared how she got better.

During a recent podcast with Ahmad Ali Butt, the Ranjha Ranjha Kardi actress said, “The early symptoms went unnoticed.”

Asma shared that before the diagnosis, she had experienced unusual symptoms. She noted significant weight loss, which she initially welcomed, unaware that it was being caused by cancer.

“Although the diagnosis took time, the disease was eventually detected, and I did not waste any time to start the treatment,” she said.

Abbas was involved in two projects when she was disgnosed, but she chose to leave them immediately to begin her treatment.

She also shared, “Some of my friends and my cousin brother advised me to travel to the United States for treatment. My father used to say, ‘Death can come anywhere’, and so I decided to undergo treatment in Pakistan.”

Abbas also commented on the concept of the evil eye, saying that she believes “it is real”. She suggested that perhaps the deep love and concern from her family may have been a factor in her combatting her illness, but expressed gratitude for being healthy now.

She added that she also suffers from other health conditions, including neck plates, damaged arm muscles, and has been living with diabetes for nearly two decades.

“But I thank God for my good health and now I am actively working in the industry,” she confirmed.

The actress emphasized, “Staying active helps maintain physical and mental well-being and stepping away from work often leads to pain and weakness.”

It’s worth noting that Asma Abbas was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021. In 2022, she revealed that her tumor went into remission through radiation, undergoing 30 sessions that left her physically weakened.

Later, in February 2024, she announced that she had fully recovered from cancer, saying the experience made her feel as if God had gifted her a new life out of love.

‘Asal issue pai focus karein’: Nadia Hussain defends Samiya Hijab

Pakistani actor and model, Nadia Hussain has stepped forward to defend social media influencer Samiya Hijab, who has alleged that she was attacked by a man named Hassan Zahid.

Taking to her Instagram account, Nadia posted a video in which she said, “Abuse is abuse, doesn’t matter if the girl was in a relationship or married to the man. If it was in the starting of the relationship or in the end, even after 20 or 40 years, physical, emotional, verbal or financial abuse is absolutely unacceptable. What Samiya is saying is right.”

She also said that if the duo had a relationship in the past and now she does not want to continue with him, “it was her right.” She also added, “If a woman does not want to continue her marriage and wants a divorce just because her husband is abusive, she has a right to do that and get out of that relationship.”

“Whenever a woman is forced against her will, it is wrong. If a woman is threatened, raped or is physically abused, you cannot ask her to keep quiet.”

She also mentioned that society does not want women to speak up against these crimes because people cannot accept that a woman has a voice.

She urged people to focus on the main issue, which is “abuse” and don’t judge Samiya for being in a relationship with him in the past.

Earlier on Wednesday, Samiya took to her Instagram to break silence on her relationship with the suspect and hit out at trolls posting old pictures of the two, claiming she received gifts and cash from him.

Samiya said that no woman should be forced to remain in an abusive relationship or marriage. Samiya revealed that the man did propose to her but she made it clear that she would only get married after four or five years.

Talent power house Sania Saeed has said that not every married couple is worthy of having children.

In a recent interview, Sania talked about the mental and physical health of parents who are not in a position to have children.

“People in our society are not even capable of having children and they are incapable of giving an upbringing. They are not worthy of it, because of their weak mental and physical state,” Sania said in a morning show.

While talking about the importance of upbringing of children, she added, “People should think before having children that if they are ready to have them? Are parents prepared to cope with the situation?”

She even mentioned that the young parents in Pakistan are suffering from mental health issues and many women are suffering from postpartum depression after giving birth.

The actress said that couples in our society are not capable of supporting each other in hard times. On this, the host said, “In our society, elders suggest the couple if things are not working between them, plan on having a child to sort things out.” To this, Sania replied, “We want to bound people with responsibility but only a capable and a conscious person can bear responsibility. If a person cannot even manage his or her own emotions, then how will that person be able to manage a toddler who can drive anyone crazy.”

She said that people in our society don’t even visit the mental health professionals and they are not in power to make decisions, “How will they be able to bear such responsibility,” she questioned.

“We are afraid of taking help, we don’t recognize the need of it and I have personally heard people saying that ‘I don’t believe in this mental health drama and the psychologists. Nothing happens after talking to the psychologists’”.

Sania Saeed got married to Shahid Shafaat in 1998, and they divorced in 2025. The former couple did not have any children.

  • Arij Fatyma reveals she was diagnosed with rare cancer

Arij Fatyma reveals she was diagnosed with rare cancer

Former actress Arij Fatyma has opened up about her diagnosis with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, speaking publicly for the first time about the health challenge she encountered earlier this year.

In a video shared on Instagram, Arij revealed that she had been diagnosed with choriocarcinoma, a rapidly advancing cancer that can arise following a molar pregnancy, a condition where abnormal tissue develops within the uterus instead of forming a typical pregnancy. Although molar pregnancies are rare, they can occasionally lead to choriocarcinoma.

She expressed that her diagnosis emerged during a time when she perceived her life as being on track and did not prioritize her health. “In a matter of hours, everything changed,” she reflected.

Throughout the past four months, she underwent significant surgery and treatment. She chose to keep her illness private due to concerns about judgment and speculation.

During her health battle, Arij concentrated on two main thoughts: how she would stand before Allah and the impact on her family. “It feels like I have been granted a second chance,” she stated, noting her commitment to living more purposefully.

She regarded her early diagnosis as fortunate, highlighting that in many instances, the illness is identified too late. Even though she has recuperated, she will require ongoing tests for several years to ensure the cancer does not reoccur.

By sharing her experience, Arij hopes to stress the significance of regular medical check-ups and the need not to dismiss symptoms. She warned against relying solely on home remedies for serious health issues. “Please educate yourselves. Do not take your health lightly,” she urged.

The actress also encouraged people not to judge others based solely on their social media appearances, as online personas can often mask private difficulties.

Her post prompted messages of support from fellow actors.

Mahira Khan commented, “May Allah bless you with complete shifa. Ameen. Sending you love. Praying for you and your family. Your bravery means a lot to so many who are suffering.”

Hira Mani, Ghana Ali, Momal Sheikh, and Mariam Nafees were among others who sent prayers and well wishes.

Arij Fatyma left the entertainment industry in 2019 after the success of her drama Hasad. She lives in Ohio, USA, and works as a digital creator with over 1.7 million Instagram followers. In June, she announced she had begun wearing the hijab, saying she would continue to follow whatever path she felt was right in her faith.
