    Punjab govt’s decision to create coronavirus awareness through Tiktok has the internet divided

    Following an ease in lockdown, cases of coronavirus have reached an all-time high in Pakistan. Despite the government urging the public to follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs), which include wearing a mask and glove, the public continues to ignore their appeals.

    In order to educate and create awareness among the masses, the Government of Punjab has decided to engage Tiktokers. In this regard, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and his wife held a meeting with top Pakistani TikTok stars and discussed how they can help create awareness about the virus. Those invited to the meeting included Kanwal Aftab, Zulqurnain Sikandar, Sehar Hayat, Warda Javaid, Daniya Sohail and Haider Ali.

    Focal Person on Digital Media to CM Punjab, Mashwani Azhar said that Tiktok is just like any other social media platform with approximately 800 million users.

    When the news of the meeting broke on social media, it had the internet divided. While some people heavily criticised the decision, others thought it was a good idea given the reach of the social media platform.

    The cricketer has gathered almost 321.9k followers on TikTok. TikTok is a Chinese video-sharing social networking service used to make short dance, lip-sync, comedy and talent videos.

    Pakistani cricketer Hassan Ali tied the knot with Indian aeronautical engineer Samiya Khan in 2019 in a private wedding ceremony in Dubai.

    The cricketer is suffering from multiple injuries because of which he is unable to perform on the field. He is reportedly scheduled to undergo a surgery.

    Indian TikToker banned for ‘glorifying’ acid attacks

    Indian TikToker Faizal Siddiqui’s account was banned after he ‘glorified’ acid attacks in a clip posted recently. The famed TikToker’s account was revoked “due to multiple community guidelines violations”.

    Siddiqui, who has a following of 13 million people on the social media app, came under fire after he enacted a scene that shows Siddiqui is throwing a liquid on a girl’s face for betraying him.

    “Keeping people on TikTok safe is a top priority and we make it clear in our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines that clearly outlines what is not acceptable on our platform. As per the policy, we do not allow content that risks the safety of others, promotes physical harm, or glorifies violence against women,” the app spokesperson was quoted as saying.

    Many people called out the app and the star for the action. Acid attack survivor Laxmi Aggarwal on whom the film Chhapaak also raised her voice on social media, “We are working day and night to stop the acid attacks, violence against women. This cringe activity is not called influencing but promoting crime. Such persons are a curse to our society. So it is important to ban such videos and accounts from social media.”

Celebrities all over the world are also participating in these challenges and the latest to join the bandwagon is the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team who took the Don’t Rush Challenge with a twist.

    TikToker allegedly withdraws kids from school to make videos

    A woman has registered a case in Peshawar’s family court against her husband for not giving her the custody of their three children claiming that her husband has withdrawn them from school to make TikTok videos.

    The woman has claimed that she is TikToker Waheed Murad’s third wife and her husband has withdrawn of their children from schools and madrassas and makes them record TikTok videos with him instead.

    According to the woman, Murad has gotten married six times. He has divorced two women and now has four wives. He has 13 children from his first wife, five from the second wife and three from the petitioner.

    She claimed that he bears the expenses of his other wives because they make TikTok videos with him.

    The woman has demanded that the court makes sure that she gets her Haq Mehr and the custody of her children.

    The judge has issued notices to the respondent and asked him to appear in court on April 2.

    Young man dies while making TikTok video

    TikTok has claimed another life in India as a young man was killed while recording a video on the railway tracks. Vikas died on the spot after he was electrocuted by the tracks.

    According to reports, the incident took place in Haryana. The 25-year-old was making a video with his friends at 4 am when he climbed up the electrical pole for a better shot. He continued to climb higher and accidentally touched one of the high voltage wires overhead. He was the only casualty in the incident.

    When he died, his friends ran away. The body was there on the wire for almost two hours. Some passersby saw the body and informed the police.

    Government Railway Police (GRP) shut off the power and took down the body. The deceased was sent to a hospital.

    Meanwhile, the police have seized his mobile phone for investigation. They suspect that Vikas and his friends had been drunk when they attempted to make the TikTok video that sadly took his life.

    Vikas lived alone with his mother. His elder brother is currently serving a prison sentence while his father has passed away.

    TikTok related deaths are not uncommon in the sub-continent. Recently a teenager in Sialkot accidentally shot himself while making a TikTok video.

    Actor Feroze Khan took to Twitter to lash out at popular social media app TikTok. The actor posted the screenshot of the two controversial TikTok videos and wrote, “Tik Tok is cancer. I repeat, cancer !”

    Khan talked about the video that was recorded at Quaid e Azam mausoleum that shows a girl in Hijab dancing in front of the mausoleum. Khan also referenced another TikTok video that was recorded at a graveyard.

     Fans of the actor agreed with him on Twitter.

    The Mazar-e-Quaid’s administration on Tuesday decided to approach the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for the removal of the viral video.

    Many people had protested after watching the TikTok video of the girl dressed in white clothes dancing in the vicinity of the shrine. They said that the incident has tarnished the sanctity of the historic place.

    Police have arrested TikTok stars who made a video at Mazar-e-Quaid. The video shows a girl dancing on a song at a mausoleum.

    After the video was posted on social media, administrative authorities reached out to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take action.

    The Mazar-e-Quaid authorities also asked FIA to remove the video from all social media platforms, following immense outrage on social media.

    Meanwhile, the episode sparked debate on social media. People argued that though dancing at the mausoleum was immoral, what rule did the girl break and why was she arrested.

    To go viral and gain views, TikTok users have started the ‘Skull-Breaker Challenge’ causing people to end up in the hospital with broken bones and fatal injuries.

    The challenge begins with three people standing alongside one another and in a row, the middle person jumps while the other two kick his/her legs out from under causing a dangerous fall.

    Falling like this is life-threatening and can cause paralysis and even death as severe head trauma could lead to serious internal bleeding in the brain.

    Meanwhile, TikTok does not allow content that is harmful. The community guidelines for the app state: “We do not promote participation in activities that could lead to harm. We also do not permit users to encourage others to take part in dangerous activities. We do not allow content that promotes self-harm or suicide, but we do allow our users to share their experiences in order to raise awareness about these issues.”

    However, TikTok has not officially responded to this matter.
