  • ‘Judge who convicted Nawaz to be removed from post’

‘Judge who convicted Nawaz to be removed from post’

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has decided to sack Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik, who convicted former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia corruption reference, a private media outlet reported Friday.

Earlier, the judge had written a letter to the IHC, refuting Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz’s allegations and the leaked tapes that purportedly showed him admitting to sentencing Nawaz after being blackmailed.

PML-N leadership last Saturday had released the tapes that allegedly showed Malik confessing in front of a party worker named Nasir Butt.

In the tapes, the judge was heard claiming he was coerced to hand down the prison sentence against the former PM despite there being no proof of corruption against him.

In a subsequent press release, Malik had denied the contents of the video and termed them as edited, fabricated and aimed to defame him. He, however, had admitted knowing the PML-N worker and his brother.

Meanwhile, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb has demanded that Nawaz’s sentence be nullified and the former premier be immediately released.

The Lion King’s live-action remake is releasing in a few days and needless to say everyone is excited. A few days back it was revealed that Shahrukh Khan and his son Aryan Khan will be doing the voiceover for Mufasa and Simba respectively for the Hindi version of the film. And naturally, anything that has SRK associated with it gets us excited. However, there is one person who is not happy with this news: Shaan.

To be honest, Shaan is pretty hard to impress anyway, but yaar Shahrukh Khan say kaun nai impress hota. Khair Shaan decided to voice his displeasure in a series of tweets.

When someone told him not to watch the film, he responded, “Then don’t release it in Pakistan.”

People started calling out Shaan for his comments and said that he is jealous of SRK.

Someone went onto say that Shaan is “always bitter.”

One person commented that Shaan is obsessed with SRK.

A Twitter user dragged in Shaan’s Arth 2, which was a box-office failure.

  • Pakistanis can’t help but celebrate India’s loss and New Zealand’s win

Pakistanis can’t help but celebrate India’s loss and New Zealand’s win

India lost to New Zealand last night which means they are officially out of the race for the Cricket World Cup. Needless to say, Pakistan couldn’t help but celebrate India’s loss, especially considering them losing to England lessened our chances of reaching the semi-finals. And what better way to celebrate our arch-rival’s loss than with memes. Pakistani social media was lit last night and here’s proof. As ESPN on Pakistan had written, “No matter what you believe, there is nothing they can’t do. The memes keep them in any game.”

    Abhinandan was dragged in.

Even ICC did not let go of a chance to celebrate New Zealand’s win.

As expected, the newly engaged were also brought into the memes.

    Anushka was also not spared.

Apart from the memes, Pakistani celebrities and politicians also took to Twitter to express their joy at New Zealand’s win.

  • ‘Let’s not bring Islam into this:’ Feroze Khan tells Hamza Ali Abbasi

Looks like we’re going to continue reading (and writing) about Iqra Aziz and Yasir Hussain’s engagement which happened at the Lux Style Awards while thousands of people were watching.

While the country appears to be divided over the proposal, Hamza Ali Abbasi stepped in to defend the couple and asked the public not to bash them for their actions, supporting his argument with verses from the Quran. And now Hamza has invited the wrath of other members of the industry who are criticising him for quoting the Quran.

Feroze Khan, who took the award for Best Actor Viewers Choice for Khaani, took a jibe at Hamza for his comments and asked him to avoid bringing “Islam, Allah and Rusool (SAW)” into such topics of conversation.

He later also added that “we are no one to judge anyone.”

Earlier Veena Malik had criticised Hamza’s statement on Yasir and Iqra’s engagement and had accused him of ‘defending kissing before nikkah. In a lenghty note posted to Twitter, she had said that she had a lot of respect for Hamza but “then these tweets come up.” She said that while she agrees that Yasir and Iqra are doing the right thing by getting married but “how the proposal ended wasn’t appropriate as the act was utterly uncultured.”

Peshawar barber sets up shop in BRT underpass

The fate of Peshawar’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) continues to be undecided as the KP provincial government tries to iron out the various setbacks in its completion.

As a result, the already standing structures have been left desolate with no security keeping an eye on them. A poor man saw this an opportunity and set up a barbershop in the Hashnagri underpass which is used by locals to cross the road.

The shop, which consists of a few chairs and a mirror, has gained popularity on social media and the city and is being visited by many.

The BRT authorities have not reacted to the barbershop yet.

Meanwhile, more than a year has passed since the initial launch date of the much-awaited service. Launched with the Asian Development Bank’s assistance, the project had been announced by then Chief Minister Pervez Khattak who had said that the 26 km long project would be completed by April 2018. However, to date the project appears to be nowhere near completion.
