    Ali Haider Zaidi accepts that PTI government relied too much on Gen Faiz

    In a talk show on ARY News, Kashif Abbasi asked senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Haider Zaidi about the biggest mistake of the PTI government in his personal opinion. Zaidi remarked that their handling of political matters was weak.

    When the anchor asked the PTI leader whether there was too much reliance on General Faiz and establishment on convincing other MNAs on passing any bills in the parliament, Zaidi replied, “Imran Khan has accepted this himself, Khan said that we [Khan and establishment] were on very good terms and they used to help us during passing of budgets.”

    He remarked that in hindsight that was the biggest mistake PTI government made during their tenure but at the time it was difficult to comprehend due to the fog of war.

    He also emphasized that in every democratic society, decision-making should be completely political.

    Ali Zaidi said that he’s not coming back to politics until he “clears a lot of things with Imran Khan”. And then he asked the anchor, “Have I ever said anything against Imran Khan? Have I ever tweeted against PTI? Did I say anything against PTI since I’ve been in your program?”

    He blamed the party’s Core Committee for letting his family be vilified online due to their deliberate lies. “My daughter comes home from school and asks what they are saying about us,” he recounted.

    He emphasized that the committee members deliberately lie to get to upper ranks and expose internal party differences in public. He said that he would need to talk these things over with Imran Khan and let him know what these people did to us.

    Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said on Monday that “Pakistan is in a position to complete the [gas] pipeline project with Iran and makes decision regarding it.” However, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi’s visit to Pakistan is expected this month.

    “We are constructing a gas pipeline on our side from Gwadar to the Iranian border,” Asif said while speaking on Geo News’ Capital Talk programme.

    Earlier this month, The News said that Pakistan started building an 80km part of the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline. They’re working from Gwadar to a spot where they can link it to the Iranian section of the project.

    “There is no such thing as waste,” Ocampo, 40, told AFP on a recent visit to Santos’s Maria Parado de Bellido kitchen in a poor district of southern Lima.

    “An ingredient has to be used in its entirety,” he said, in a world where a third of food is wasted while 800 million people go hungry.

    Palmiro and his wife Anyell San Miguel train cooks from Peruvian soup and community kitchens and share recipes through their project Ccori, which means gold in the Indigenous Quechua language and was created 11 years ago to promote “culinary recycling.”

    As a result “more than a ton of ingredients that would normally end up in the garbage have been… turned into delicious food,” said the chef.

    Not only tasty but healthy too: “many of these (formerly discarded) food parts have more nutrients” — vital to combat anemia, which affects more than two in five children in Peru.

    In a talk show on Public News, anchorperson Iqrah Haris asked former Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah given the promises the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) made during its election campaigns, would it be ready to suffer the consequences if the government is unable to deliver.

    Rana Sanaullah remarked that the N-League would not be responsible for any promises made to the public simply because it is a coalition government.

    “We are not making any promises now, the promises we made were dependent on us getting a simple majority and PML-N making its own government under the leadership of Mian Nawaz Sharif.”

    The PML-N’s senior leader asserted that had the government been granted a majority, it would have borne the responsibility of steering the country out of this economic turmoil.

    Maryam Nawaz reduces roti price, Nanbai association rejects notification

    Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has announced a reduction in the prices of simple roti.

    As per her announcement, the price is reduced to Rs 16 for roti weighing 100 gram while that of Naan is Rs 20 which has to weigh 120 gram.

    The prices will be implemented across the province from today, reported Jang.

    Maryam Nawaz instructed authorities that all the districts and relevant departments of Punjab have to ensure the strict implementation of the decision.

    President Nanbai Association Shafiq Qureshi said that they are ready to reduce the price of bread if the Punjab government gives a subsidy. However, associations across the province rejected the decision of the Punjab government.

    Talking about the decision to reduce the price of roti, Shafiq Qureshi said that the price of a bag of fine flour is 12 thousand 200 rupees while the price of ordinary flour is 11 thousand 600 rupees per bag, pointing out that fhe government is not giving any subsidy on gas and electricity. Nanbais use LPG gas which makes it impossible to reduce the price of bread.

    Police forcefully got semen from Qari Abubakar Muawiyah, says lawyer

    A video of Qari Abubakar Muawiyah’s lawyer has emerged online where he is claiming that his client was drugged by the police in Shahdra. He alleged that the police then forcefully took his sperm while Qari Muawiyah was unconscious.

    The lawyer further added that his detained client is being tricked into another case in Shahdra where it is being said that he molested a child, taking him to a graveyard. However, he asserted that Qari Muawiyah has never been to the place.

    A cleric, arrested for allegedly trying to molest child in Faisalabad, is now free because of the intervention of religious cleric, Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer.

    Cleric Abubakar Muawiyah was accused of child molestation, when a video of him being lambasted by the police officer for allegedly molesting a child went viral. In the video, Muawiyah is seen offering an explanation that the child was just ‘massaging his feet’.

    But many are not accepting his explanation. According to social activist Syed Zaighum Kazmi, “Mowlana Abubakar Muawiyah from Deoband school of thought and active member of banned outfit Sipah e Sahaba caught red handed while rapping a 12 year boy from his own Madrasa.”

    THE FIR

    In the FIR, the child’s father Mudassar, stated that his child went missing after prayer and when he went out to find him, he heard his son’s cries from an adjacent house. As he barged in the cleric Muawiyah was naked, holding a gun and trying to rape Mudassar’s son. According to Mudassar, when Muawiyah saw that people had discovere him, he ran away from the location threatening them with a gun.

    INTERVENTION

    Upon the intervention of an esteemed scholar Allama Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer, Muawiyah has been forgiven by the father of the child for “Allah ki Raza”.

    Anchor Shahzad Iqbal programme on Geo ‘Naya Pakistan’ Allama Zaheer said because the child was not raped, ‘a margin should be given to the alleged convict’. Zaheer said that he has talked to the parent of the child and clarified that this was due to a ‘misunderstanding and things are sorted’.


    Journalist Shehzad Iqbal highlighted that this is against the law since the FIR is already registered and the matter should be investigated.


    Muawiyah, upon his release, was seen saying that he is grateful to Allah because he is exonerated ‘with respect’.


    Meanwhile, human rights activist Nadia Jamil has requested Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz to take notice. “We must put an end to this. Begging you to take stern notice and make an example of this perverted criminal and allow this young boy and his family to access mental health support to help over come the trauma he has been through,” pleaded Nadia.

    Update: The preliminary report of the case of the woman identified as Maryam allegedly falling to death after being beaten up by a police officer in the Millat Express train has come to light.

    It was reported that the woman jumped from the moving train on April 8 at 6:30 am at Chanigoth, dying on the spot, reports Geo.

    Rescue staff says that the woman was going from Karachi to Faisalabad along with children. Despite people trying to stop her, she jumped from the window of the moving train.

    Contradiction in the stance of Police

    On the other hand, there is a contradiction in the position of the police regarding the officer involved in the violence against the woman in which the police say that the bail of the police officer Mir Hassan was granted on April 13, the day after his arrest.

    The police have said that Mir Hasan has been suspended and a case has been registered against him.

    Stance of Maryam’s brother

    The woman’s brother Afzal said that the deceased woman Maryam belonged to Chak 648 GB of Jaranwala. She left Karachi on April 7 via Millat Express. She was buried in the village on April 9, after it was said that she died in a train accident, but after the video went viral, the violence on the sister and the facts behind the incident came to be known.

    The woman’s brother alleged that the police officer raped Maryam and killed her and threw the body on the track.

    In addition, Ghalib Hamad, the nephew of the woman, said in his statement that he was with his aunt. “The policeman objected to loud noise of her recitation and started assaulting her. He took Aunt Maryam with him and then dropped us at the next station.”

    Previously, a body of a woman who was tortured by railway police officer Mir Hasan on the Millat Express train, was found near Chani Goth Railway Station in Bahawalpur.

    Background


    The policeman was arrested last week after the video went viral in which he could be seen pulling the woman’s hair and hitting her multiple times while other passengers watched silently.


    A local court in Hyderabad approved the cop’s bail on the same day against a surety bond of Rs35,000. The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Railways Abdullah Sheikh confirmed that the incident took place on April 7 on the Karachi to Lala Musa-bound Millat Express.


    However, just a day after the the cop was released on bail, the woman’s body was found in Bahawalpur.


    The railway police officer took the woman — who belonged to Jaranwala’s Chak 40 Mor, Faisalabad — with him after violently beating her on April 7.
    The victim’s brother, Afzal, said that his sister used to work at a beauty parlour in Karachi and she was coming to Jaranwala to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.


    The brother demanded that the death of his sister should be investigated.


    Previously it was reported that the constable came to check the ticket of the woman after he was told that she was travelling without a pass. The woman refused that she was travelling without a ticket after which the policeman tortured her in front of her children.


    Later, the cop claimed that the woman had kidnapped the kids. Despite this allegation, he confessed to have beaten up the woman after she misbehaved with him.

    Rapper Saint Levant held an amazing show at Coachella. The artist, of Palestinian, French, Algerian and Serbian descent didn’t just bring cool music to the festival, but also talked about supporting Palestine. Even though the band No Doubt was performing too, Saint Levant still gathered a huge crowd at the Gobi Tent. Fans wore keffiyehs and waved Palestinian flags, showing solidarity with Gaza.
    The 23-year-old artist, whose real name is Marwan Abdelhamid, grew up in Gaza, then moved with his family to Jordan, and later settled in Los Angeles. He felt a strong connection to Gaza when he talked to the crowd at Coachella. “My name is Saint Levant, and I was born in Jerusalem and raised in Gaza.”

    He also said, “I hope you all know that the people in Gaza have been suffering a lot, facing a very harsh situation for the last six months. And Palestinians have been living under a tough occupation for 75 years.” He shouted, “It’s not just me up here — it’s the whole Arab world up here,” showing that he represents a whole community fighting to make people aware and demand fairness for Palestine.

    During his performance, Saint Levant sang some of his well-known songs and also some new ones like “Deira” and “5am in Paris,” which he released shortly before Coachella. The songs talk about being forced to leave your home and feeling like you don’t belong, which are experiences he knows well and are part of the Palestinian story. He said to the Coachella crowd, “It’s about exile. A feeling that us Palestinians know a bit too well.”

    Saint Levant being at Coachella meant a lot to the people there. Yara Brenton, a 43-year-old festival-goer, said the experience was “incredible.” She thought it was important that Saint Levant spoke up for the Palestinian cause. Reflecting on how more people know about Palestine now, Brenton said, “There are a lot more people who know about Palestine today. And there’s no going back, I think, from this awareness.”


    Saint Levant’s rise to fame is like other Palestinian artists, such as Elyanna, who performed at Coachella last year. Having them there not only makes music more diverse but also shows how art can make a difference and give voice to those who aren’t always heard.
