Burqas distributed among KP school girls

The government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has distributed “Burqas” among students in girls model school in Cheena village of Rustam valley.

According to the pictures circulating on social media, the authorities with the help of funds provided by Pakistan Tehreeke Insaf’s (PTI) former district council member, Muzaffar Shah, distributed 69 burqas among students in KP girls school.

The development has come after the provincial government made it mandatory for the girls in schools to wear a veil.

Earlier, the KP government had decided to make it mandatory for female students of government-run schools to cover themselves up in educational institutions with an abaya, gown or chador for protection against “unethical incidents” — harassment.

But after facing widespread public criticism the KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan directed the authorities to withdraw the mandatory burqa order.

  • Maleficent is ‘Pari Maa’ in Hindi version of the film

Maleficent is ‘Pari Maa’ in Hindi version of the film

Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil is getting a Hindi makeover and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is doing the voiceover of Maleficent’s character played by Angelina Jolie.

The film is the sequel of 2014’s superhit Maleficent, in which Jolie played an evil fairy who puts a curse on Princess Aurora and is based on the fairytale The Sleeping Beauty.

In the Hindi trailer of the film, Aishwarya channels the wickedness of the evil fairy as she steps into the shoes of Maleficient. However, what is cringe-worthy about the Hindi version is the fact that Maleficent is being referred to as Pari Maa, which sounds very Star Plus.

Disney India Head Bikram Duggal said that Aishwarya was chosen because her “persona, which is filled with elegance and poise, would be a perfect blend.”

Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil is slated to release on October 18 worldwide. Apart from Angelina Jolie, it also stars Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville in the key roles.

Previously, Shah Rukh Khan and his son Aryan Khan did the Hindi voiceover for the live-action remake of The Lion King.

Heated argument mars Qureshi’s interview with Javed Chaudhry

A heated argument marred Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s interview with journalist Javed Chaudhry during the latter’s television talk show, “Kal Tak”.

The discussion turned into a spat when Qureshi was asked about the resolution that Pakistan was going to submit at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) against India on Kashmir.

The minister said that it was not their plan to submit the resolution and were only monitoring the situation, adding that they “would not make any decision under pressure of social media or tweets”.

“It was you [and your government] who were tweeting”, the journalist said in response, adding that even Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had mentioned the UN resolution and 58 countries supporting Pakistan.

Hearing this, FM Qureshi got riled up and demanded to see the tweets, printed copies of which were also presented to the minster.

Agitated over Javed, Qureshi also said, “I still own it.” He further asked Javed Chaudhary, “Are you sitting here with a fixed agenda?”

Earlier in a tweet, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and PM Imran had said that Pakistan got a historic joint statement on behalf of over 50 countries to the UN Human Rights Council.

Qureshi, in the interview, however, appeared to be oblivious of the tweets made from his verified handle.

US Representative AOC stands up for Kashmiris

Expressing support for the people of Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK), trailblazing United States (US) Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez aka AOC has said the blockade on communication and life-saving medical care in the valley must end.

“We stand for the basic human dignity of Kashmiris [and] support democracy, equality, and human rights for all — including the most vulnerable,” AOC, who is among the most progressive US congresswomen, tweeted Tuesday.

“Reports of violence & torture are extremely concerning, and the blockade from communication and life-saving medical care must end [sic],” she said.

The tweet came after AOC visited a Kashmir solidarity camp in New York City.

AOC is not the only US lawmaker who has condemned Indian actions in the held valley.

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib had in September also called for the communications blockade and curfew restrictions in IoK to be lifted to shed light on what is happening in the disputed region.

People of the valley have been held hostage by Indian occupying forces since August 5 when Narendra Modi-led government in New Delhi abrogated Article 370 of its constitution to rob the Muslim-majority region of its autonomy.

VIDEO: Firdous Jamal says Imran Ashraf’s act as Bhola was pretentious

Veteran actor Firdous Jamal is back in the limelight after his comments on Imran Ashraf’s acting went viral.

Speaking on a TV show, Firdous said that Imran Ashraf’s act as Bhola in the superhit drama Ranjha Ranjha Kardi was pretentious.

On the TV show, Jamal was asked who he thinks has a bright future as an actor in the industry, he replied, “There isn’t one.”

He added, “The thing is all these new actors are models. They are all showpieces. They don’t know how to act; they don’t have the wisdom.”

Firdous then went onto compare today’s actors with dummies and said “You know how the manager at the departmental stores changes their wigs or clothes sometimes to make them look different every day. Unfortunately, our young actors are in the same boat.”

The host then remarked that there is talent in the industry and gave Imran’s example.

But Firdous was not having any of it.

“The character Imran did wasn’t spontaneous though. It was all pretension,” Firdous responded. “How can I explain spontaneity in acting lingo? There is a difference between acting and pretention. This role was previously done by a lot of other actors too. They just didn’t act it they behaved it. Unfortunately, none of you have watched good performances.”

Imran Ashraf took to social media and responded very humbly.

  • Indian army chief responds to PM Imran’s warning, threatens to cross LoC

Indian army chief responds to PM Imran’s warning, threatens to cross LoC

Reacting to Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s warning to the world if tensions between Pakistan and India escalate to a nuclear war, Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat has threatened to cross the Line of Control (LoC) “if they have to”, Times of India reported.

According to the details, Bipin’s remarks came after the premier, in his United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) address, warned the world of a potential nuclear war if India continued its actions in held Kashmir.

Bipin said that PM Imran “must understand that nuclear weapons are meant for deterrence and they are not to be used in a conventional war”.

The Indian army chief said that the “2016 surgical strikes and the Balakot airstrikes in 2019 sent a clear message to Pakistan that India is not interested in playing a hide and seek” game anymore.

BOGUS SURGICAL STRIKES & FAILED AIRSTRIKES:

On September 28, 2016, India had claimed that the country carried out surgical strikes on seven terror launch pads across the LoC, inflicting “significant casualties”.

The Pakistan military, however, had swiftly rubbished the notions of a surgical strike, saying, “This quest by the Indian establishment to create media hype by rebranding cross-border fire as a surgical strike is fabrication of the truth. Pakistan has made it clear that if there is a surgical strike on Pakistani soil, the same will be strongly responded.”

Three years later, following the Pulwama incident in which 44 Indian paramilitary soldiers lost their lives, two Indian aircraft entered Pakistani air space on February 27 for the second time in two days, engaged with Pakistan Air Force (PAF), and as a result, were shot down.

The wreckage of one of the planes landed in Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), and the wreckage of the other plane landed in the Indian-occupied Kasmir (IoK), Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had confirmed at the time.

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was held captive following the aerial dogfight, was handed over to India on March 1 in a peace gesture after PM Imran had announced to release him in an attempt to “de-escalate tensions” between the two countries.
