PTI leader installs VVIP bathroom at ministry

Despite slogans of austerity and claims of bringing an end to Pakistan’s VIP culture, ministers of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government have installed biometric machines outside bathrooms of the Ministry of Industries and Production for top-ranking officers. The ministry comes under Abdul Razak Dawood who is Adviser to Prime Minister Imran Khan for Commerce, Textile, Industry and Production, and Investment of Pakistan.

According to reports, only an additional secretary or an officer above the rank can use these ‘VVIP’ bathrooms. Those who are of the same rank from another ministry can also use these washrooms.

Meanwhile, the bathrooms for the rest of the people working there allegedly don’t even have soaps or other basic toiletries.

According to details, seven flights expected to land at the Lahore Airport were diverted to land in other cities due to the situation. A PIA flight coming from Paris was made to land at the Sialkot airport while PIA’s Jeddah-Lahore flight was diverted to Multan airport. An international flight coming from Doha was returned to its origin.

PIA’s spokesperson told the media that flights were diverted due to safety concerns and efforts are underway to end the bird strike.

The Lahore airport is surrounded by wedding halls, where leftover food is thrown in nearby areas. Birds gather to have a feast but they pose a substantial threat to planes.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan has directed the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to reduce the price of luggage plastic wrapping to Rs 50 at all airports across the country.

Previously, rates of double wrapping were Rs400 while for the single wrapping, the airport authorities used to charge Rs200. CAA has made plastic wrapping of luggage mandatory for passengers travelling abroad.

  • ‘ISI woman agent’ honey-trapped two soldiers into leaking sensitive data: Indian media

‘ISI woman agent’ honey-trapped two soldiers into leaking sensitive data: Indian media

Police have accused an unidentified woman of being an Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agent and allegedly posing as a captain in the Indian Army’s Nursing Corps to honey-trap at least two soldiers and an army aspirant.

According to Indian media reports, soldier Ravinder Kumar Yadav of Mahendergarh district, Somveer Singh of Rohtak and an army aspirant Gaurav of Sonepat were among those duped by the woman in the past 15 months.

Narnaul police arrested Ravinder Yadav on July 10 from a dhaba for allegedly sharing secret information with the suspected agent, who introduced herself as Capt Anika Chopra, reports said.

In April 2018, the Rohtak police arrested a 23-year-old youth, Gaurav Kumar, a resident of Ganaur in Sonepat, for purportedly passing information to Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency about Indian army camps he visited for recruitment tests.

It was also reported that the woman trapped sepoy Somveer Singh, 22, a resident of Bhaini Maharajpur village in Rohtak, in January this year. Singh was posted in the armed corps in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district. He is currently lodged in the Jaipur jail.

“It appears the woman’s Facebook account was fake and the ISI agent with the same identity had trapped the other two men in a similar fashion. The woman had used Indian numbers for WhatsApp and we had sent the jawan’s phones to the cyber cell,” Narnaul DSP Vinod Kumar said.

A police official, seeking anonymity, said the agent had befriended the two jawans and the army aspirant through social media.

“She had deposited Rs 5,000 in the bank accounts of the three accused. In Ravinder’s case, the woman had been regularly asking the jawan about his movement and showed concern for his personal life.”

The woman claimed she is posted in Gujarat. She only texted him on WhatsApp and both of them had regularly shared their pictures. However, the woman’s pictures were not clear, the police official said further.

‘Rising prices, higher taxes’: Honda halts production in Pakistan

As car sales drop amid rising prices due to the imposition of higher taxes and rupee depreciation, Honda Atlas Cars Pakistan (HACP) has halted production in the country for 10 days, Dawn reported Saturday.

According to reports, HACP shut down its plant for 10 days as its inventories piled up to 2,000 units while Indus Motor Company (IMC), which produces Toyota models in Pakistan, has also decided to stop car production for eight days, two days every week, during this month.

The report quoted HACP and IMC executives as saying that their decision to scale down production during July was informed by plummeting sales in the first 10 days of the month.

“Our inventories from the last month and the first 10 days of July have grown rapidly because of the steep increase in car prices after currency devaluation as well as the imposition of Advance Customs Duty (ACD) on all our imports and Federal Excise Duty (FED) on assembled cars,” an HACP senior executive said.

“It has left us with no option but to shut down the plant to cut production. If the present trend holds, we expect our sales to drop to less than 30,000 units this business year (April 2019-March 2020) from over 48,000 units last year.”

An IMC official also gave the same reasons for “observing eight no-production days” during July. The executive, however, did not give the size of inventory the company has built so far, saying the production cuts could increase next month if sales do not pick up.
