    The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has removed Mohammad Rizwan and appointed Shaheen Shah Afridi as the new ODI captain on Monday.

    While the board did not explain the reasoning behind the decision, former cricketer Rashid Latif blamed head coach Mike Hesson for Rizwan’s removal.

    Latif claimed that Rizwan’s public support for Palestine was the real reason behind his dismissal as captain. He said that Rizwan’s actions, including his pledge to donate PKR 100,000 for every six wickets taken by Multan Sultans in support of Palestine, did not sit well with the team management.

    “Just because he picked up the Palestine flag, you would sack him as captain? There is this mindset that a non-Islamic captain will lead the team of an islamic country,” Latif said in a video shared on social media.

    He further alleged that Rizwan introduced religious practices in the dressing room, something that Hesson reportedly disliked. “Mike Hesson is the one behind this decision. He isn’t someone who likes this culture in the dressing room. He has a team of five to six people who want to end this culture. We never cared about these things, even when Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar, or Saqlain Mushtaq were part of the team,” Latif added.

    The PCB’s decision surprised many, as Rizwan had only been appointed ODI captain in October last year. The Board’s announcement came on the first day of the second Test between Pakistan and South Africa in Rawalpindi.

    Rizwan’s tenure included series wins against Australia and South Africa, but Pakistan’s early exit from the Champions Trophy and a disappointing series against West Indies reportedly sealed his fate. The selection committee discussed the matter with Hesson before finalizing the change, though the PCB has not issued an official explanation.

    With Shaheen Afridi now leading the ODI side, Pakistan will have three different captains for all three formats.

    Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi has responded to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) letter requesting the Asia Cup 2025 trophy.

    According to reports, the BCCI wrote to Naqvi, asking for the handover of the trophy their team won earlier this year. 

    In response, Naqvi stated that if India wants the trophy, a formal ceremony can be arranged for the presentation.

    Reports added that the ACC has informed the Indian board that the trophy can be handed over in the first week of November. The council has proposed holding the ceremony in Dubai during that period.

    Naqvi has reportedly made it clear that a BCCI official can attend the event along with one player to receive the trophy.

    The Indian team did not collect the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from Naqvi after winning the final. 

    Following the incident, Naqvi sent the trophy back to the ACC office and remarked that if the Indian captain wanted it, he could visit his office to collect it.

    The decision comes after months of uncertainty surrounding Khan’s citizenship status, which had prevented him from accessing key legal and travel services. According to Khan’s legal counsel, NADRA’s investigation board conducted a thorough review of his personal documents and ancestral records, concluding that the blockage was the result of an administrative error.

    “NADRA admitted the mistake after a detailed inquiry and has now restored all legal documents belonging to my client,” Arshad’s lawyer told Nukta.

    Arshad expressed his relief and gratitude following the verdict. “My ID card has been unblocked and I am very happy,” he said. “I’m thankful to NADRA and the court. I am proud to be a Pakistani and I want to do something good for this country.”

    Arshad, a resident of Mardan, became an overnight sensation in 2016 when a photograph of him pouring tea at a roadside stall went viral on social media. The image captured the attention of local and international audiences, catapulting him into the limelight.

    Following his rise to fame, Khan ventured into modeling and later expanded his brand by opening high-end tea cafés, first in Islamabad and subsequently in other cities, as well as internationally.

    In a deeply disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves across the country, a man has allegedly slit the throats of his two daughters due to overwhelming financial stress and mounting debt.

    As per the details, the killings took place in Kausar Niazi Colony area of North Nazimabad where the suspect, identified as Akbar, son of Abdul Sattar, used a sharp weapon to fatally attack his daughters, aged 10 and 11.

    Police acted swiftly, arresting the accused and recovering from the scene the weapon used in the crime. Preliminary investigations suggest that Akbar was under intense financial strain and had been grappling with significant unpaid debts due to unemployment.

    Investigators said that Akbar is a father of six and the two victims, Zainab and Aaliya, were his middle children.

    Neighbours and local residents expressed shock and grief, stating that the family had been struggling financially for quite some time, though no one had anticipated such a horrific outcome.

    Police officials emphasised that the motive appeared to be closely linked to the suspect’s deteriorating mental state. However, they said that a full psychiatric evaluation would be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.

    While probe is underway, remaining family members are being provided with psychological support, officials said.

Although he was later reinstated, the board has now decided to remove him from the post and could assign him to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) instead.

    Social media giant TikTok has removed more than 25.4 million videos in Pakistan between April and June 2025 for violating its Community Guidelines, according to the platform’s Q2 2025 enforcement report.

    The company said it identified 99.7 percent of the content proactively and removed 96.2 percent within 24 hours of posting.

    Globally, TikTok took down 189.5 million videos during the same period, equal to 0.7 percent of all uploads. Of these, 163.9 million were detected automatically, while 7.4 million were later restored after review.

    TikTok also deleted 76.9 million fake accounts and 25.9 million suspected underage accounts. The report stated that 30.6 percent of the removed videos contained mature or sensitive content, 14 percent violated safety standards, and 6.1 percent breached privacy rules.

    The company said the report highlights its efforts to maintain a safe digital environment and uphold transparency through regular updates.

    The Price Control Department has said that the recent surge in tomato prices across Pakistan has been caused by a disruption in supply.

    According to reports, heavy rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa damaged tomato crops, leading to a temporary shortage in the market.

    A spokesperson for the Price Control and Consumer Management Department (PC&CMD) told the media that delays in tomato imports from Afghanistan and Iran have also added pressure on supply. The rise in prices is mainly due to seasonal changes, rainfall, and transportation challenges.

    The department said the increase in tomato prices is temporary and expected to ease next week once supply returns to normal. 

    The department added that upcoming tomato harvests from Sindh in November and from Punjab in April and May will ensure stable availability in the coming months.

    Shaheen Afridi, Sajid Khan, and Asif Afridi failed to make an impact and were dismissed by Keshav Maharaj. Noman Ali remained not out on six runs.

    For South Africa, Maharaj delivered an outstanding performance, taking seven wickets. Simon Harmer claimed two wickets, while Kagiso Rabada took one.

    On the opening day, Pakistan captain Shan Masood had won the toss and opted to bat first. Shan scored 87, while Abdullah Shafique contributed 57 runs.

    Pakistan leads the two-match Test series 1-0 after defeating South Africa by 93 runs in the first Test played in Lahore.
