  • PMD rejects reports of record cold winter in Pakistan

PMD rejects reports of record cold winter in Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has denied reports claiming that the country will experience one of its coldest winter this year, saying there is no scientific evidence to support such predictions.

The Met Office said Pakistan is likely to experience mild winter conditions with less-than-normal rainfall in the coming months. It stated, “The country can expect some winter waves with minor intensity due to western winds, but there are no chances of an intensely cold winter. This year, Pakistan is expected to see below-normal rainfall between December and February.”

The clarification came after the Intersector Coordination Group (ISCG) suggested that Pakistan could face one of its coldest winters in decades due to the La Niña climate pattern. The PMD disagreed with the assessment, saying that no scientific facts supported such an extreme forecast.

A situation report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) warned that the La Niña pattern could bring colder-than-usual temperatures to several parts of Pakistan. The report said this may put additional pressure on flood-affected communities, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The report explained that La Niña occurs when sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean drop abnormally, disrupting global weather systems and causing major temperature shifts.

According to UN-OCHA’s October forecast, slightly negative phases of both the El Niño Southern Oscillation and the Indian Ocean Dipole are expected to influence Pakistan’s rainfall pattern. It said northern regions such as Punjab, KP, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan may receive below-normal rainfall, while southern regions including Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab are expected to get near-normal precipitation.

The report also warned of possible effects such as disruptions to Kharif crop harvesting, increased risk of dengue due to stagnant water, potential glacial lake outburst floods in upper areas, reduced river inflows affecting irrigation, higher smog levels in plains, and negative impacts on livestock health due to above-normal temperatures.

Trump says ending Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions would be very easy for him

US President Donald Trump has said that resolving the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan would be “very easy” for him.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said, “I like stopping wars. I am fully aware of the recent border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, and if I want, I can end this war immediately.”

During the conversation, Trump also mentioned the ceasefire between Pakistan and India again, saying, “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told me that I saved millions of lives by ending the Pakistan-India war.”

In recent days, cross-border attacks from Afghanistan into Pakistan have continued, prompting the Pakistani military to target militant hideouts across the border. Dozens of militants were reportedly killed in the strikes.

Both countries had agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire, which has now been extended.

Reports said that the temporary truce between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban government has been extended until the conclusion of ongoing talks in Doha.

High-level discussions are expected to begin on Saturday.

  • ‘Shan Masood’s phone call to Sarfaraz Ahmed helped Pakistan win South Africa Test,’ claims Yahya Hussaini

‘Shan Masood’s phone call to Sarfaraz Ahmed helped Pakistan win South Africa Test,’ claims Yahya Hussaini

Sports journalist Syed Yahya Hussaini has revealed that former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed played a key role in guiding the national team during their Test win against South Africa in Lahore.

Speaking on a private media channel, Hussaini said that Shan Masood called Sarfaraz Ahmed on the third day of the Test to seek his advice, which helped him make crucial on-field decisions.

“Shaheen Afridi did not bowl in the first innings because he was told to rest,” Hussaini said. “Later, when he bowled in the second innings, people started praising him. But what most fans don’t know is that Shan Masood actually called Sarfaraz on the third day of the Test and asked, ‘Saifi Bhai, what should I do?’”

Hussaini said Sarfaraz shared his experience and guided Shan on how to approach the situation. “Sarfaraz told him not to worry and handle it calmly,” he added. “That’s where experience speaks for itself. The advice from a player under whose captaincy Pakistan won the Champions Trophy made a difference.”

Hussaini said this incident shows why players like Sarfaraz are still important for Pakistan cricket. “You need such experienced players around the team,” he said.

Pakistan defeated South Africa by 93 runs in the first Test at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday. The win gave Pakistan a 1–0 lead in the two-match series.

Shaheen Afridi and Noman Ali took four wickets each in the final innings, while Noman finished with a match haul of ten wickets.

  • CM Afridi approaches Supreme Court after federal, Punjab ‘don’t let him meet Imran Khan’

CM Afridi approaches Supreme Court after federal, Punjab ‘don’t let him meet Imran Khan’

Unable to meet jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan for two days, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Sohail Afridi has moved the Supreme Court to fulfill his “constitutional and moral obligation”.

In a letter written to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi, the provincial chief executive maintained that he needed to consult with the jailed party founder, who is also the PTI’s patron-in-chief, to be able to constitute his provincial cabinet.

He said he had already approached the federal interior secretary, as well as the Punjab home secretary, for arranging the meeting at Adiala Jail but it had not yielded any results despite repeated follow-ups.

CM Afridi said that he also needed to meet Khan to discuss matters relating to law and order, critical economic challenges and policy matters regarding the people of the province.

“There is a pressing need to seek direction from the Founder Chairman/ Patron in Chief Mr Imran Ahmad Khan Niazi, regarding the above matters and others, including relations regarding certain important matters with the Federation and other provinces,” read his letter to the top judge.

“The seeking of direction is extremely essential, even presently the province of Punjab has stopped the inter-provincial trade of wheat,” he added.

Afridi, who replaced Ali Amin Gandapur as the provincial chief executive, assumed charge of the office on Wednesday.

His election came after Gandapur was told by Khan to step down following a public feud with the party founder’s wife Bushra Bibi and sister Aleema Khan.

Gandapur had tendered his resignation shortly after being told to do so, paving the way for Afridi to be elected as the CM amid opposition boycotts in the provincial assembly.

  • Government orders high-level inquiry into lifetime ban on Arshad Nadeem’s coach

Government orders high-level inquiry into lifetime ban on Arshad Nadeem’s coach

The federal government has taken notice of the lifetime ban imposed by the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) on Olympian Arshad Nadeem’s coach Salman Butt, and has ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter.

According to reports, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has been directed to conduct an immediate and comprehensive investigation. The inquiry will examine the reasons and motivations behind the controversial decision made by the Athletics Federation.

Officials said the PSB has also been instructed to submit its findings to the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination once the report is completed.

The development comes after the Athletics Federation recently banned coach Salman Iqbal Butt for life, accusing him of “gross misconduct and violation of the federation’s constitution.” The federation alleged that Butt, who was serving as president of the Punjab Athletics Association (PAA), and former secretary Syed Habib Shah, held illegal elections for the association.

According to the AFP, Butt and Shah announced elections for the Punjab Athletics Association on August 29, 2025, giving only one day’s notice. The elections were held on August 31, despite the federation’s official warning on August 30 to halt the process and follow the proper legal framework.

A three-member inquiry committee was later formed by the federation on September 24 to investigate the issue. The committee summoned both officials to explain their actions, but neither appeared nor submitted a written response. After reviewing the records, the AFP’s Executive Committee decided on October 10, 2025, that both individuals had violated the federation’s constitution and disobeyed lawful directives.

The AFP declared the August 31 elections null and void and announced that fresh elections would be held under its supervision. It also directed all member units to end official dealings with Butt and Shah. Copies of the decision were shared with World Athletics, Asian Athletics, and the Pakistan Sports Board.

Salman Butt, however, rejected the accusations, calling the ban “baseless and vindictive.” He said he would continue to guide Arshad Nadeem despite the federation’s decision.

  • Internet divided as Yasir Hussain reveals dreaming about late Aamir Liaquat

Internet divided as Yasir Hussain reveals dreaming about late Aamir Liaquat

A recent viral clip of Pakistani actor and director Yasir Hussain discussing a dream he had about the late televangelist Aamir Liaquat Hussain has sparked mixed reactions online.

In the resurfaced interview with actress Ushna Shah, Yasir shared a dream in which he saw Aamir Liaquat living peacefully in the United States (US).

“In the dream, Aamir Liaquat was living in a very beautiful house in the US with his wife and children, and I had gone to stay at his place,” Yasir said.

While the clip was initially shared as a lighthearted or spiritual moment, many social media users didn’t take it well.

The segment has now drawn criticism across various platforms, with netizens urging celebrities to refrain from discussing the deceased in such a manner. A number of users expressed discomfort with the tone of the conversation, particularly how Shah was engaging Yasir about the dream in an overly casual or “interesting” way.

“Stop it both of you, he is not in this world, how pathetic it is to joke around someone who has passed away,” wrote one while another said, “Yar Choor do jan Amir Sahab ki Dua kro bus [Let Aamir Sahib be… make dua for him].”

“Highly unethical. Especially this Ushna Shah. For views, such celebs can stoop too low,” one user commented.

Some viewers went as far as to call the clip “insensitive” and “disrespectful”, emphasising that Aamir Liaquat’s family was still grieving and public figures should be more mindful.

Aamir Liaquat, who passed away on June 9, 2022, in Karachi, was a political and television figure. He was a member of Pakistan’s National Assembly with a career marred by controversies surrounding his wives among other things.
