  • Justice Saman Imtiaz stripped of powers after taking up Imaan Mazari’s harassment case against CJ

Justice Saman Imtiaz stripped of powers after taking up Imaan Mazari’s harassment case against CJ

The administration of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has stripped Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz of her powers to entertain harassment complaints after she took cognisance of one filed by lawyer and human rights activist Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir against Chief Justice (CJ) Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar.

Last week, lawyer Mazari and CJ Dogar had a heated exchange during the hearing of a plea filed on behalf of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leader Dr Mahrang Baloch. CJ Dogar had warned lawyer Mazari of contempt and was reported to have passed warning remarks along the lines of “getting hold of her”.

Lawyer Mazari on Monday approached the IHC’s anti-harassment committee and also sent a reference against CJ Dogar to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC).

In response to her complaint, Justice Imtiaz, being the “competent authority”, not only entertained the complaint but also established an inquiry committee in consultation with her fellow judges.

A circular from her office said that under the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act 2010, an inquiry committee, comprising Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Imtiaz, had been formed to conduct probe the matter.

However, a notification issued by the IHC registrar’s office later, Justice Inaam Amin Minhas was appointed as the new head of the Women’s Harassment Committee.

Reports citing the court record claimed that a similar committee was already formed in 2019, comprising the member inspection team (MIT), deputy and assistant registrars under the said act, to probe allegations of harassment.

A senior official of the IHC was quoted as saying that the act did not apply to judges as they could only be charged under Article 209 of the Constitution.

Another reason for de-notifying Justice Imtiaz was that, as the competent authority, she herself could not serve on the inquiry committee.

Heartbreaking farewell: Child star Umer Shah laid to rest in DI Khan, celebs still in shock

Child star Umer Shah, who won hearts across the nation through his appearances on Shan-e-Ramzan and Jeeto Pakistan besides viral social media videos with his elder brother Ahmad Shah, was laid to rest in Dera Ismail Khan’s Zakhori Sharif graveyard.

As per the details, funeral prayers for the young star were offered on Daraban Road and attended by a large number of relatives, friends and locals, all deeply shaken by the sudden tragedy. Umer’s school staff paid tribute by placing a bouquet on his grave, describing his passing as a great loss. They expressed profound sorrow over the untimely death of a child known for his innocent smile and playful spirit.

His uncle and mentor Daniyal Shah said Umer’s health took a sudden turn for the worse on Sunday night and he was rushed to the hospital where he began vomiting, causing fluid to enter his lungs — a condition that ultimately led to his tragic passing. Daniyal also revealed that a poisonous snake had been found and killed in the house earlier.

The news was first confirmed by Umer’s elder brother, Ahmed Shah, through a post on his official social media account, leaving fans and followers in a state of disbelief and sorrow.

As the country mourns, tributes have poured in from celebrities who had worked with Umer or grown fond of him over the years. The entire entertainment industry is united in grief.

Kubra Khan, who appeared alongside Umer on the same game show, shared a deeply emotional tribute on her Instagram, “Some news just doesn’t process… it doesn’t wrap around your head. Sweet Umer, the quiet, shy one — the keeper of our treasure box. He would always bring out chocolates and sweets for me and blow kisses from afar with a shy smile.”

“I pray you’re smiling right now too, because I know you’re in the best of places. No treasure box will ever be the same. You will remain in our hearts and prayers. Always.”

Morning show host Nida Yasir posted heartfelt videos from her show featuring the Shah brothers, with one video showing little Umer sitting in her lap. “Umer, you will always be remembered with a smiling face. You will live in our hearts forever, dear Umer. Rest in peace,” she said.

Shaista Lodhi, another prominent TV host, shared fond memories with Umer and expressed disbelief over his passing. “I still can’t believe that little star Umer Shah is no more. His innocence always brought joy on Jeeto Pakistan. You will be remembered forever. May Allah grant patience to the grieving family.”

Actress Sonya Hussyn reflected on the spiritual and unseen dimensions of such tragedies, sharing a deeply personal note on the possible role of the evil eye. “There are fifteen causes of death, one of which is the evil eye and one is envy. These can harm a person, even cause death.”

“’Al-Ayn is true’, the evil eye is real. I’m honestly in shock. I can’t even process this. This is heartbreaking beyond words. Praying for strength and peace for the family. Can’t imagine what they are going through.”

TV host and journalist Waseem Badami, while speaking on his show, was visibly emotional as he remembered Umer’s presence on Shan-e-Ramzan. “The ARY family has lost one of its own, the heart of our Shan-e-Ramzan kids’ segment. We never thought we’d be delivering such devastating news on this show. But these are the decisions of Allah.”

“I don’t even know what words to say. May Allah give patience to the family. Umer Shah is no longer with us, but his laughter and memories will stay in our hearts,” he said while controlling his emotions.

Actors Mahira Khan, Fahad Mustafa, Adnan Siddiqui, Humayun Saeed, Aijaz Aslam, Azaan Sami Khan, Momal Sheikh and many other showbiz personalities also took to social media, expressing heartbreak and offering prayers for Umer and his grieving family.

  • PCB suspends top official for delaying complaint to ICC over India, match referee’s conduct

PCB suspends top official for delaying complaint to ICC over India, match referee’s conduct

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suspended International Cricket Director Usman Wahla for delaying the country’s complaint to the International Cricket Council (ICC) against the conduct of the Indian team and match referee Andy Pycroft during the Asia Cup clash between Pakistan and India.

According to reports, the suspension came after Wahla failed to act promptly when instructed to write a letter to the ICC over the controversy that unfolded during the high-profile match.

The action comes after referee Pycroft told Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha that there would be no handshake with Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav at the time of the toss. Before that, he also instructed Pakistan’s media manager not to record the moment.

Following the match, Pakistan team manager Naveed Akram Cheema raised objections with tournament director Andrew Russell. According to reports, Russell first said the instructions came from the Indian board and later claimed they had originated from the Indian government.

With there also being no handshake after the match, Pakistan has taken a firm stand and warned the ICC that the team would not play further matches if Pycroft remains the referee. The PCB has written a letter to the ICC and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), accusing Pycroft of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct and violating the MCC Spirit of Cricket.

“The referee’s conduct went against the spirit of the game and MCC laws. The PCB believes this is a serious breach,” the letter stated.

PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi has also confirmed that a formal complaint had been filed. “We have lodged a complaint with the ICC over his violation of the ICC Code of Conduct and demanded his immediate removal from the Asia Cup,” he said.

The letter maintained that Pycroft’s actions undermined the Spirit of Cricket and accused him of failing to fulfill his responsibilities as match referee.

  • 31 terrorists ‘belonging to Indian proxy’ killed in KP: ISPR

31 terrorists ‘belonging to Indian proxy’ killed in KP: ISPR

As many as 31 terrorists belonging to Indian proxy Fitna al Khwarij were killed in two separate engagements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) between September 13 and 14, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Monday.

According to the military’s media wing, an intelligence-based operation was conducted by security forces in Lakki Marwat upon the reported presence of Khwarij in the area.

“During the conduct of operation, troops effectively engaged the location, and after an intense fire exchange, fourteen Indian-sponsored Khwarij were sent to hell,” it said.

The ISPR further stated that another intelligence-based operation was carried out in Bannu district, and, in the ensuing fire exchange, 17 Khwarij were neutralised by the security forces.

“Sanitisation operations are being conducted to eliminate any other Indian-sponsored Kharji found in the area as the security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of Indian-sponsored terrorism from the country,” the statement concluded.

Pakistan has in recent months experienced a surge in terror incidents, particularly in KP and Balochistan. After withdrawing from a ceasefire agreement with the government in November 2022, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) intensified assaults on security forces, police and other law enforcement personnel.

Fitna al Khwarij is used to refer to terrorists belonging to the outlawed TTP while Balochistan-based groups have been labelled Fitna al Hindustan to highlight India’s role in terrorism and destabilisation across Pakistan.

Hollywood stars use Emmy stage to demand ‘Free Palestine’

The 77th Emmy Awards were not just a celebration of television’s finest, it became a powerful platform for emotional expression, as several stars used the global spotlight to call for a ceasefire and express solidarity with Palestine.

Actress Hannah Einbinder, best known for her role in Hacks as Ava Daniels, closed her acceptance speech with a bold statement: “Go Birds, F*** ICE and Free Palestine,” while wearing an Artists4Ceasefire pin on her attire. The moment quickly went viral across social media platforms, sparking much praise for the star.

Speaking to Variety after the ceremony, Einbinder elaborated on her position, explaining her motivation to speak out as a Jewish individual. “As a Jew, I felt it was my responsibility to speak on this issue,” she said.

She further revealed that several of her friends are currently working as frontline aid workers in Gaza. “Some of my friends are working as frontline workers in Gaza — like doctors helping pregnant women and children, and setting up schools in refugee camps,” she explained.

Einbinder said the issue was one that resonates deeply with her personal beliefs. “This issue is very close to my heart, and as a Jew, it is my duty to clarify that our religion and culture are important and long-standing, and completely separate from this ethno-state.”

She also addressed the ongoing Film Workers for Palestine boycott movement, making it clear that the campaign is not aimed at individuals. “This boycott is not against individuals but against the institutions that are directly involved in the atrocities against the Palestinian people,” she said.

Elsewhere on the red carpet, Megan Stalter made her own powerful statement without saying a word. The Hacks star, who plays the role of Kayla Schaeffer, carried a striking black handbag boldly emblazoned with the word “CEASEFIRE”, complemented by a solidarity pin fastened to her trousers.

Joining the others, acclaimed Spanish actor Javier Bardem walked the red carpet donning a keffiyeh, a symbol of Palestinian resistance and solidarity. On stage, he delivered a clear and forceful message: “Here I am today denouncing the genocide in Gaza… Free Palestine.”

  • Tabish Hashmi blames Babar Azam for Pakistan’s Asia Cup defeat to India

Tabish Hashmi blames Babar Azam for Pakistan’s Asia Cup defeat to India

In a dramatic turn of events following Pakistan’s crushing defeat to India in the Asia Cup T20 match held in Dubai, popular TV host and comedian Tabish Hashmi pointed fingers at former captain Babar Azam, despite the star batter not even being part of the playing XI.

During a post-match segment on his show, Hashmi was asked who he held responsible for Pakistan’s loss. Without hesitation, he quipped, “Of course, Babar Azam is to blame because he wasn’t in the team today.” The sarcastic remark sparked laughter, but also drew attention to ongoing debates about the team’s composition and past leadership decisions.

Former skipper Rashid Latif, who appeared alongside Hashmi, backed the statement with a more analytical take. “Babar Azam is the one who introduced players like Saim Ayub as bowlers. He had Saim bowl during the PSL, so you can’t ignore his role in shaping this current squad,” Latif remarked, subtly defending the strategic choices that stemmed from Babar’s captaincy era.

The loss to India has once again ignited criticism of Pakistan’s selection strategy and team management, as fans and analysts continue to dissect what went wrong in a high-stakes regional clash.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) dropped former captains Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in T20 revamp in December 2024 and announced a new team.

The new T20I captain is Salman Ali Agha who was appointed captain in his fourth game after full-time leader Rizwan was rested against Zimbabwe in December 2024. One series later, he had assumed the role full-time, and somehow retained it through both a change of coach and team philosophy.

Meanwhile, many social media users are questioning the team selection and captaincy. People are saying dropping Babar and Rizwan has cost Pakistan heavily. Others are recalling Babar and Rizwan’s performance against India with a 10-wicket win. It was Pakistan’s 13th attempt to finally beat India in the World Cups.

  • Pakistan to not continue playing Asia Cup if match referee is not removed: reports

Pakistan to not continue playing Asia Cup if match referee is not removed: reports

Pakistan has taken a strong stance over the controversy in their Asia Cup clash against India, warning the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the team will not play further matches if referee Andy Pycroft is not replaced.

As per the details, reports quoted sources as saying that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made it clear to the ICC that it will boycott the tournament unless the referee is changed.

The claim comes hours after it was reported that PCB had written to the ICC and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) demanding Pycroft’s removal from Asia Cup 2025.

The board, in its letter, cited violations of the ICC Code of Conduct and MCC’s Spirit of Cricket. “The referee’s conduct went against the spirit of the game and MCC laws. The PCB believes this is a serious breach,” the letter read.

Earlier, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi also said that the PCB had lodged a complaint with the ICC as the match referee acted against the spirit of cricket. “We have filed a formal complaint over his violation of the ICC Code of Conduct and demanded his immediate removal from the Asia Cup,” he said.

According to reports, the PCB lodged its protest after Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha and India skipper Suryakumar Yadav did not shake hands at the toss and match referee Pycroft’s conduct drew sharp criticism for telling Pakistan that there would be no handshake.

Earlier, he also told Pakistan’s media manager that the moment should not be recorded.

At the end of the match, team manager Naveed Akram Cheema raised concerns with tournament director Andrew Russell.

According to reports, Russell said that the directive had come from the Indian board, and later said the instructions were from the Indian government.

Indian media reveals mastermind behind ‘no handshake’ snub post-Pak clash

India on Sunday defeated Pakistan by seven wickets at the Asia Cup in Dubai. But beyond the result, the match stirred controversy as the Indian team openly ignored sportsmanship traditions – heading back to the dressing room without shaking hands before or after the match.

As per the details, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav refused to shake hands with Pakistani skipper Salman Ali Agha at the time of the toss. Hours later, the entire Indian squad left the field without greeting Pakistani players at the end of the game.

While the behaviour was said to be rooted in pressure from Indian public to boycott the match due to military tensions between the two countries in May, Yadav admitted in a press conference that the action was meant to send Pakistan a “clear message” and remind them of the terror attack in Pahalgam – an attack for which India had blamed Pakistan despite the country’s offer for an independent probe, ultimately leading to the clashes.

With Yadav also saying that the snub was not his idea, Indian media reported that head coach Gautam Gambhir had instructed players to not shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts.

Report further said that Gambhir also advised his team to avoid any verbal exchanges with the opposition.

While the move receives mixed reactions, Pakistanis and the global community have both urged India to avoid mixing politics with sports.

The Indian team has also been slammed for going against the spirit of the game.
