‘Her own mistake’: Journalist victim blames Sana Yousaf for getting murdered

Journalist Naeem Hanif on Saturday appeared to victim-blame 17-year-old social media influencer Sana Yousaf, who was shot dead in Islamabad on June 2 by a man whose proposals she repeatedly rejected.

“Suspect [Kaka] is a social media expert and Sana Yousaf had been getting help from him for the past six to eight months to promote her social media accounts,” Hanif claimed in a podcast on YouTube channel RNN TV.

The journalist further said that as Hayat was assisting in promoting Sana’s social media account, they exchanged phone numbers.

He then said that Sana was killed by her “own mistake” provided that she was sharing locations on TikTok continuously. He added that when the suspect confessed his love to Sana, she then decided to get rid of him.

Additionally, Hanif said that on Sana’s birthday (May 29), the suspect reached Islamabad to contact her; however, she did not give any attention to him.

“When you are posting every second of your location on TikTok, then your location is not secret,” the journalist opined.

Omar Hayat aka Kaka, 22,  murdered 17-year-old Sana Yousaf at her house in G-13. He was arrested from Faisalabad within 20 hours of the incident. The victim’s mobile phone and the murder weapon were also recovered from his possession.

“The ruthless killer took the phone with him after the murder to destroy evidence. In order to apprehend the accused, raids were conducted at over 11 locations in three cities. The accused is a 22-year-old unemployed man who repeatedly attempted to contact the victim. Upon her refusal to respond, he committed the murder,” said Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi during a presser on June 3.

He added that the killer had tried to reach out to Sana at least seven to eight times.

The police chief stated that Sana repeatedly rejected the boy’s offers to become friends. She also rejected his marriage proposals.

“On May 29, which was Sana’s birthday, he tried contacting her. He tried for seven to eight hours to get in touch with her, including going to her home,” the IG said.

Ali Nasir Rizvi gave out other details of the murder, including that Sana was killed by two gunshots around 5 pm on June 2. The gun that killed her and her iPhone were recovered by the police from Kaka’s possession.

Sana Mir creates history with ICC Hall of Fame induction alongside Dhoni, Amla, other greats

Former Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Sana Mir has made history as the first female cricketer from the country to be inducted into the International Cricket Council (ICC) Hall of Fame.

As per the details, Mir was among the seven new inductees unveiled by West Indies legend Ian Bishop at a ceremony ahead of the World Test Championship final. She was inducted alongside India’s MS Dhoni, England’s Sarah Taylor, South Africa’s Hashim Amla and Graeme Smith, Australia’s Matthew Hayden and New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori.

The former off-spinning all-rounder, who represented Pakistan for around 15 years from 2005-2019, set numerous records during her career, and has now joined an elite group of just 14 women and a total of eight Pakistanis who have received the honour.

She remains Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker in women’s ODIs with 151 scalps and was the first Asian woman to play 100 T20 internationals. As captain for eight years, Mir led Pakistan to two Asian Games gold medals (2010 and 2014) and guided the team in five T20 World Cups and two ODI World Cups.

Her leadership produced landmark moments including Pakistan’s first ODI victory against South Africa and qualification for the 2017 World Cup Super Sixes where her 5/14 against Scotland proved decisive. Mir retired as one of Pakistan’s most decorated athletes in 2019.

“From dreaming as a little girl that one day there would even be a women’s team in our country to now standing here, inducted among the very legends I idolised long before I ever held a bat or a ball — this is a moment I couldn’t have dared to imagine,” ICC quoted her as saying.

“I am incredibly grateful for this honour and hope to give back to the sport in any way I can. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my teammates, coaches and family for all their support over the years,” she said.

It may be noted that the seven other Pakistani cricketers in the Hall of Fame are Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Javed Miandad, Abdul Qadir, Zaheer Abbas, Waqar Younis and Hanif Mohammad.

‘Too old to dance’: Mahira, Humayun hilariously respond to mean brutal trolls

Actors Mahira Khan and Humayun Saeed have responded to online criticism in the most entertaining and graceful way, winning the hearts of their fans during promotion for their new movie Love Guru.

The duo appeared on various platforms during the promotional campaign of the film, turning every moment into viral content. Their interviews and video clips have been making rounds on social media, especially one where they read out negative comments and respond with laughter and charm.

One user commented, “Is burhapy mein in dono se dance karwana zulm hai [It’s cruel to make them dance at this old age.]”

Mahira burst into laughter and even partially agreed while Humayun responded with a witty comeback, “There is a lot of passion, so we will continue to dance — and the real fun is in dancing at this age!”

Mahira went on to add that actual cruelty was making them dance in the heat.

Another troll targeted the film’s visual quality, saying that the cast looked just like they do in real life, implying poor lighting or production. To this, Humayun shot back, “By the way, this time everyone is saying that we all look fresh, it seems like a lot of money has been spent on production. Perhaps the commenter has watched some other film.”

A particularly harsh comment targeted Mahira, saying, “This old woman’s actions never end.” In response, Humayun joked, “They can’t end, they have been ingrained since childhood!” Mahira, laughing along, added, “Yes! It’s not possible for the actions to end!”

Love Guru, which is screening across the country, is receiving mixed reviews with some calling the film a mere money-making venture and others praising it.

Deemak spooks audiences with record-breaking opening

Pakistan’s biggest horror film Deemak has achieved remarkable success in its first week of release, setting a new milestone in the history of the country’s cinema.

The film, created in collaboration with Geo Films, has reportedly already grossed over an estimated Rs60 million and continues to dominate the box office amid overwhelming audience appreciation.

Viewers are praising the film for its gripping storyline, suspenseful sequences, terrifying visuals and use of cutting-edge technology. “The story, suspense, scary scenes and use of modern technology make Deemak completely unique from other horror films,” said one viewer in a social media post.

Written by Syed Murad Ali and directed by Rafay Rashdi and Ayesha Muzaffar, the film combines horror and thrill with powerful commentary on social issues.

At its core, Deemak doesn’t just aim to scare but it also sheds light on emotional trauma, generational neglect, domestic abuse, denial and the complex dynamics between women in a household, particularly the strained relationship between a daughter-in-law and mother-in-law. Set against the backdrop of a haunting, the film uses horror as a metaphor for internal decay exploring how unresolved emotional wounds and suppressed tensions can slowly destroy families from within.

Deemak features Faisal Qureshi and Sonia Hussain in lead roles, supported by legendary actors Samina Pirzada, Javed Sheikh, Bushra Ansari and other artists.

  • Israel strikes Beirut on Eid Ul Azha eve

Israel strikes Beirut on Eid Ul Azha eve

A series of Israeli air strikes hit Beirut’s southern suburbs on Thursday night, after the military said it would target underground Hezbollah drone factories.

Plumes of smoke were seen billowing from the Lebanese capital, shortly after huge numbers of people had fled the area, clogging the roads with traffic.

Lebanese news agency ANI said it counted nearly a dozen strikes, including two which were “very violent”. AFP journalists in the city heard at least two strong detonations.

“The IDF (military) is currently striking terror targets of the Hezbollah aerial unit,” the Israeli military said in a statement on Telegram.

Less than two hours earlier, its Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee had warned on social media that residents of the suburbs were “located near facilities belonging to the terrorist organisation Hezbollah” and should evacuate immediately.

In a separate statement, the military had said it would “soon carry out a strike on underground UAV (drone) production infrastructure sites that were deliberately established in the heart of (the) civilian population” in Beirut.

The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon wrote on X that the strikes “generated renewed panic and fear”, and called for a “halt to any actions that could further undermine the cessation of hostilities”.

“Established mechanisms and diplomatic instruments are at the disposal of all sides to address disputes or threats, and to prevent unnecessary and dangerous escalation,” it added.

Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun in a statement voiced “firm condemnation of the Israeli aggression” and “flagrant violation” of a November 27 ceasefire “on the eve of a sacred religious festival”, the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha.

He said the strikes were “irrefutable proof of the aggressor’s refusal… of a just peace in our region”.

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam also issued a statement condemning the strikes as a “flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty” and of a 2006 UN resolution.

    – Suspected drone production –

One resident described grabbing her children and fleeing her home in the southern suburbs after receiving an ominous warning before the strikes.

“I got a phone call from a stranger who said he was from the Israeli army,” said the woman, Violette, who declined to give her last name.

Israel also issued an evacuation warning for the village of Ain Qana, located in southern Lebanon around 20 kilometres (12 miles) from the Israeli border.

The Israeli military then launched a strike on a building there that it alleged was a Hezbollah base, ANI reported.

Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah engaged in more than a year of hostilities that began with the outbreak of the Gaza war and culminated in an intense Israeli bombing campaign and ground incursion into southern Lebanon.

The November ceasefire sought to end the fighting — which left Hezbollah severely weakened — but Israel has continued to regularly carry out strikes in Lebanon’s south.

Strikes targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs, considered a Hezbollah stronghold, have been rare, however.

“Following Hezbollah’s extensive use of UAVs as a central component of its terrorist attacks on the state of Israel, the terrorist organisation is operating to increase production of UAVs for the next war,” the military statement said, calling the activities “a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon”.

Under the truce, Hezbollah fighters were to withdraw north of the Litani river, about 30 kilometres from the border, and dismantle their military posts to the south.

Israel was to pull all its troops from Lebanon, but it has kept them in five positions it deems “strategic” along the frontier.

The Lebanese army has been deploying in the south and removing Hezbollah infrastructure there, with prime minister Salam saying Thursday that it had dismantled “more than 500 military positions and arms depots” in the area.

‘Pakistan has very strong leadership’; Trump reiterates his mediation in Pak-Ind conflict

US President Donald Trump has reiterated his role in mediation in the recent Pakistan-India armed conflict while commending Islamabad’s leadership.

“I want to congratulate both countries. The leader of India is a great guy. We are doing a trade deal. And Pakistan likewise has very strong leadership. Some people won’t like it when I say that, but it is what it is,” President Trump said while speaking at a White House event alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

“I told them we are not going to deal with you on trade if you go shooting each other and whipping out nuclear weapons that maybe even affect us, because nuclear dust does blow across the ocean very quickly […] I got that war stopped,” he added.

Trump again said that he is “very proud” of stopping the skirmish between nuclear-armed countries Pakistan and India, adding that tensions were “getting close to being out of hand”.

He then sarcastically asked, “Now will they give me credit? They won’t give me credit for anything. But nobody else could have stopped it. I was proud of that.”

Following the militants’ attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in Pahalgam on April 22, New Delhi accused Islamabad of orchestrating the attack without offering any evidence or conducting an investigation into the incident.

However, Pakistan repeatedly denied its involvement in the incident, demanding an international transparent probe.

On the night of May 6-7, India launched air-to-surface missiles into Pakistan’s cities, including Bahawalpur and Muridke, killing several innocent civilians, including children.

After at least 87 hours, the war between the two nuclear-armed nations ended on May 10 with a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States.

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire,” Trump had said in a post on Truth Social on May 10.

“Congratulations to both countries on using common sense and great intelligence,” he added.

  • Adam Gilchrist says Pakistani players have the best hair in world cricket

Adam Gilchrist says Pakistani players have the best hair in world cricket

Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist has praised Pakistani cricketers for something not often discussed on cricket shows or post-match presentations: their hair.

Speaking on the podcast “Club Prairie Fire” with former England captain Michael Vaughan, Gilchrist said that Pakistani players have always had the best hair in cricket history.

“I mean this with the utmost respect. The Pakistan players, in a general statement, have the best hair. Beautiful hair. They clearly shampoo and condition,” Gilchrist said.

The conversation took a more humorous turn when Vaughan shared a personal memory involving former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja, recalling his days in the commentary box. “I stroke Ramiz’s hair… it’s a thing of beauty. Soft. Very soft.”

When asked if Ramiz was okay with it, Vaughan added, “Yeah, he didn’t mind. He gets the old stroke.”

The discussion started during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season, where English batter James Vince was at the centre of an amusing incident. After scoring a century, Vince was named Player of the Match, but instead of receiving a trophy or cash prize, he was given a hair dryer by his coach inside the team dressing room.

“I remember the first time ever a hair dryer for a player,” Gilchrist laughed, recalling the incident. “What happens if he’s bald? Might blow it away.”

Gilchrist and Vaughan joked about what might be the next unusual prize, wondering if it would be curling tongs.
