Elderly man dies of shock as thief disguised as delivery man robs home

A suspect disguised as an online delivery rider entered a home in Rawalpindi’s Dhoke Kala Khan area and requested water.

The robber drew a weapon, held the residents at gunpoint, and looted cash and gold from the house. Tragically, an elderly resident suffered a heart attack during the incident and passed away on the spot.

According to the police, the suspect used the extreme heat as an excuse to request water to gain entry into the house.

Locals reported the incident immediately, and officers from Sadiqabad Police Station arrived at the scene to secure the area and begin investigations.

The suspect remains unidentified, and efforts are underway to locate and arrest the perpetrator.

  • Pakistan’s Bano Kausar defeats India’s Richa Sharma in Asian Ju-Jitsu final

Pakistan’s Bano Kausar defeats India’s Richa Sharma in Asian Ju-Jitsu final

Bano Kausar won Pakistan’s only gold medal at the 9th Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship 2025 by defeating India’s Richa Sharma in the final of the women’s 48kg contact category. The event was held in Amman, Jordan, with athletes from over 35 countries participating.

Bano reached the final after a semi-final win over Thailand’s Sugun Nutchaya. Although it was her debut at the Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship, she had already made a name for herself in mixed martial arts. Her transition to Ju-Jitsu has expanded her presence in international combat sports.

Pakistan’s team at the championship consisted of only six athletes, three men and three women, all of whom competed without financial support from the Pakistan Sports Board or the Pakistan Olympic Association. The athletes covered all expenses out of their own pockets.

Despite the limited resources, Pakistan managed to secure four medals. Alongside Bano’s gold, bronze medals were won in the duo events by Muhammad Ali Rashid and Muhammad Yousuf Ali in the men’s category, and by Isra Waseem and Kainat Arif in the women’s category.

The Pakistan Ju-Jitsu Federation (PJJF), which has continued its efforts despite funding challenges, credited coach M. Altaf for discovering and honing Bano’s talent. His commitment to coaching under such constraints was acknowledged by the federation.

Officials from the PJJF and other sporting authorities, including the Inter-Provincial Coordination Ministry, extended their congratulations, though notably only after the medals had been won. The athletes competed without any institutional backing.

With over 500 participants in the tournament, Pakistan’s small contingent still succeeded in raising the national flag on the podium. Bano’s gold medal, achieved against the odds, stands as a landmark moment for Pakistani martial arts, reflecting not just the victory itself but the resilience and determination behind it.

  • Lahore Qalandars pull off biggest run chase in history of T20 finals

Lahore Qalandars pull off biggest run chase in history of T20 finals

Lahore Qalandars made history on May 25 after successfully chasing down 202 runs against Quetta Gladiators, the highest-ever run chase in the final of any T20 franchise competition. While the match was a nail-biter, the biggest talking point was the dramatic, last-minute arrival of Sikandar Raza.

Having just played a Test match for Zimbabwe against England, Raza reached the stadium only ten minutes before the toss for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) X final, and ended up being the match-winner.

With Lahore needing 47 runs from the final three overs, Raza stepped up and smashed 22 off just seven balls, hitting two sixes and two fours. He guided the Qalandars to victory with just one ball left, helping them chase down the target and setting a new record. This broke the previous record set by Kolkata Knight Riders, who chased 200 in the 2014 IPL final.

Quetta Gladiators had set a strong total of 202 following a brilliant 76 off 43 balls from Hasan Nawaz, which included 12 boundaries. Faheem Ashraf added in 28 runs off just eight balls, giving Quetta a strong finish.

But it was Sikandar Raza’s heroics that stole the show. Just hours before the game, he had been travelling across continents. “I bowled 25 overs the day before yesterday, batted for over 20 overs yesterday, had dinner in Birmingham, breakfast in Dubai, lunch in Abu Dhabi, and dinner in Pakistan,” he shared after the match.

This victory marked Lahore Qalandars’ third PSL title, and a record third trophy for Shaheen Shah Afridi as captain.

  • ‘I was wrong’; Mahira Khan finally opens up about rift with Khalil ur Rehman Qamar

‘I was wrong’; Mahira Khan finally opens up about rift with Khalil ur Rehman Qamar

Superstar Mahira Khan has finally broken her silence on her long-standing rift with controversial writer Khalil ur Rehman Qamar. Mahira not only addressed the issue but also admitted her own mistake.

Clarifying the nature of their relationship in a podcast with Ahmed Ali Butt, Mahira said, “We were never close friends, but our joint project Sadqay Tumhare was a journey we completed with love and sincerity.”

When asked if she believed she was also at fault, Mahira candidly admitted, “Yes, I was wrong. I should have messaged him directly instead of tweeting about it. He is absolutely right.”

She explained that she had been busy shooting for Neelofar when she came across late-night news involving Qamar’s alleged misconduct with a woman. Without checking the full context, Mahira reacted impulsively. “I just wanted to raise my voice against injustice,” she said, adding that her emotionally charged tweet escalated into a major controversy.

Mahira also credited her mother for helping her reflect on the situation. “My mom made me realize I should have communicated directly, especially when it involved a senior artist,” she shared. According to Mahira, her mother advised her to express her opinion in an interview instead of social media. “You can disagree while still maintaining respect,” she quoted her mother as saying.

In the same interview, Mahira responded to repeated criticism from veteran actor Firdous Jamal, who has said she no longer fits lead roles. Mahira reflected on how such comments affected her early in her career but said she has grown stronger over time.

“When you’re just a little bit successful, people support you. But once you become very successful, those same people feel insecure and start speaking against you,” she observed.

She also mentioned that some people criticize her without even knowing her personally. Recalling the time of Punjab Nahi Jaungi’s release, Mahira said it was difficult dealing with criticism from within the industry. “It was a tough time,” she added.

Mahira Khan is set to appear alongside Humayun Saeed in the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha release Love Guru, a film eagerly awaited by her fans.

  • 184 million passwords compromised in social media leak

184 million passwords compromised in social media leak

Social media users are being warned by the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (PKCERT) of a high-priority alert concerning a massive data breach that has affected key platforms like Facebook, Microsoft, and Google.

The alert claims that more than 1.8 billion user records, including 184 million verified passwords, have been compromised from a number of social networking apps.

To improve security, PKCERT has recommended that users change the passwords for all sensitive accounts right away and turn on two-factor authentication (2FA).

The agency also recommends avoiding suspicious links and closely monitoring accounts for any unusual activity.

This is not the first cybersecurity concern flagged by PKCERT.

A critical vulnerability in Microsoft Windows (versions 7 through 11) that allowed unauthorized access to credentials, domain data, and passwords without requiring users to view compromised files was the subject of an advisory released by the agency in December 2024.

Users were adviced at the time to stay away from shared drives, create strong, unique passwords, and change them frequently.

PKCERT continues to emphasize preventive measures to reduce the risk of data theft and system compromise.

Major changes in selection committee for Bangladesh series

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a new interim team management, with notable absentees from the previous coaching staff ahead of the T20I series against Bangladesh. The board has relieved the former batting and bowling coaches of their duties in line with reshaping its coaching line-up.

According to the official statement released by the PCB, Naveed Akram Cheema has been appointed team manager, while former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson has taken over as head coach for the Bangladesh series. Hanif Malik will serve as the batting coach, while Ashley Noffke will be appointed as the bowling coach, and Mohammad Masroor will be named the fielding coach.

Other appointments include Cliff Deacon as physiotherapist, Imranullah as strength and conditioning coach, and Talha Ejaz as team analyst.

These changes come as part of a temporary arrangement for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. Earlier, on May 20, the PCB posted job advertisements on its official website, inviting applications for the roles of batting coach, fielding coach, and strength and conditioning coach. Interested candidates have until 5 PM on June 6 to apply.

Until permanent appointments are made, Hanif Malik and Ashley Noffke will continue coaching duties during the Bangladesh series.

It is worth mentioning that during the tour of New Zealand earlier this year, Mohammad Yousuf served as batting coach and Azhar Mahmood as bowling coach, both of whom are absent from the current set-up.

  • Harvest on Hold: 20% FED Burden Draining Pakistan’s Fruit Juice Industry

Harvest on Hold: 20% FED Burden Draining Pakistan’s Fruit Juice Industry

Pakistan’s fruit farmers and pulp industry are facing a serious challenge as procurement by juice and nectar companies has sharply declined, jeopardizing the entire fruit value chain.

Traditionally, juice manufacturers procured over 100,000 tonnes of fruit annually, often buying surplus or export-grade fruit directly from growers. These advanced contracts provided farmers with stable income and helped reduce wastage.

However, this season, many growers report a noticeable drop in industry engagement.

“Usually, companies approach us well before harvest, but this year the inquiries have been few and far between,” says Mubashar Durrani, a mango grower from Multan.

The core issue behind this downturn is the steep 20% Federal Excise Duty (FED), imposed on top of an 18% GST. Since the FED hike in 2023-24, sales in the formal juice sector have fallen by nearly half, forcing companies to hold inventory and drastically cut back on new fruit purchases.

“With existing stock piling up and weaker sales, we expect a significant reduction in buying mangoes, peaches, and apples this season,” explains representative of a juice brand.

This reduction hits farmers hard. Many are already struggling due to limited exports caused by trade route disruptions. Lower procurement means fruit prices are dropping, squeezing growers’ incomes and threatening future orchard investments.

“If this trend continues, we may have to stop planting new trees—or even uproot existing ones just to salvage some value,” warns Ebadur Rehman, a guava grower from Sheikhupura.

The tax policy has also encouraged the rise of unregulated, cheaper products that avoid taxes and food safety standards, further hurting the formal industry.

“The formal juice sector pays heavy taxes but faces unfair competition from undocumented producers,” says a Fruit Juice Council spokesperson. “This discourages investment and stalls industry growth.”

Globally, many countries offer preferential tax rates for fruit juices. For example, India applies only 12% GST with no excise duty on pure fruit juices, making Pakistan’s combined 38% tax rate exceptionally high.

The formal juice industry has significant export potential, but without a healthy domestic market and supportive policies, that opportunity remains out of reach.

“The government should reduce the FED and support the formal sector, which protects farmers, reduces wastage, and creates jobs,” the spokesperson adds.

Until then, fruit farmers and pulp processors face mounting uncertainty as procurement declines, threatening one of Pakistan’s most promising agricultural value chains.

  • Sikandar Raza takes 10-hour flight to Lahore, wins PSL for Lahore Qalandars

Sikandar Raza takes 10-hour flight to Lahore, wins PSL for Lahore Qalandars

Lahore Qalandars on Sunday night became champions of Pakistan Super League (PSL) for the third time, defeating Quetta Gladiators in a nail-biting final. Chasing a target of 202 runs, Lahore sealed the win in the last over, owing it to a sensational cameo by Sikandar Raza.

The most remarkable part of the final was the arrival of Raza, who finished playing a Test match for Zimbabwe against England in the hours leading to the PSL final. He then took a 10-hour flight and reached the stadium in Lahore, only ten minutes before the toss.

Despite the hectic journey, Raza stepped up when Lahore needed him the most. With eight runs required off the last three balls, he smashed a six and a four to take his team over the line. He remained unbeaten on 22 runs off just seven balls, turning the game in Lahore’s favour in the final moments.

He then undertook an intense travel journey that included a 7-hour flight from Birmingham to Dubai (5,500 km), followed by a 1.5-hour drive to Abu Dhabi (140 km), and finally a 3.5-hour flight to Lahore, Pakistan (approximately 2,100 km). Raza reached the stadium only ten minutes before the toss, making his appearance nothing short of heroic.

“I had dinner in Birmingham, breakfast in Dubai, and drove to Abu Dhabi for lunch. Took a flight and had a dinner in Pakistan. This is the life of a professional cricketer. I’m truly humbled and blessed to have the life,” Raza said in the post match discussion.

Earlier, Quetta Gladiators won the toss and elected to bat first, putting up a competitive total of 201 runs for nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Quetta’s Mohammad Nawaz was the standout performer with the bat, scoring a brilliant 76 runs off 43 balls, including four sixes and eight fours. Faheem Ashraf played a fiery innings, scoring 28 off eight balls while Avishka Fernando contributed 28 runs off 22 balls.

For Lahore, Shaheen Afridi took three wickets, while Haris Rauf and Salman Mirza took two wickets each.

Lahore’s chase started cautiously with Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Naeem. Fakhar was dismissed for 11 by Abrar Ahmed whereas Faheem Ashraf claimed Naeem’s scalp for 47 runs, ending the batter’s rather aggressive knock.

While Kusal Perera remained not out with 62 runs off 31 balls, Sikandar Raza’s match-winning innings of 22 runs off just seven balls sealed the victory for Lahore.

On Quetta’s side, Mohammad Amir, Faheem Ashraf, Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq took one wicket each.

  • Mahira Khan harassed at Love Guru’s meet-and-greet in London

Mahira Khan harassed at Love Guru’s meet-and-greet in London

Pakistani star actor Mahira Khan has been physically harassed at a promotional event for her upcoming movie ‘Love Guru’ in London, videos on social media showed.

As per the details, the actor had arrived at the Indo-Pak Supermarket store in Ilford town of London along with co-star Humayun Saeed when she was physically harassed by at least three people amid the security’s failure to control the crowd.

Sources privy to the incident told The Current that Mahira was harassed by a security guard and at least two more people inside the store after she entered the store after a lot of scuffle and mismanagement. The two people inside the store touched her inappropriately.

“It happened when she was trying to make her way to the terrace to wave at fans as part of the promotional event,” sources said.

The sources added that the actor seemed visibly shaken besides also being reluctant to go forth with the event due to the display of Indian flags at the venue amid tensions between the two neighbouring countries.

However, they claimed, the event went on as planned as the actors had already been paid for the meet-and-greet session.

Meanwhile, people familiar with the matter said that the store paid £5,000 for the appearance but no money was paid to the actor.

A source close to the actor said, “She signed up to promote the film. She has not taken any money for the appearance. She agreed to attend the event for the film promotion. What happened there was shocking.”

It merits a mention that videos on social media had also shown Mahira and Humayun waving at fans from the store’s terrace.

Details of the incident unfolded only after subsequent videos showed a visibly uncomfortable Mahira trying to make her way into the store surrounded by a huge crowd.

The sources said that Mahira immediately launched protest with organisers of the event and shared her sadness and shock with them.

According to reports, at least one female reporter from a private media outlet was also harassed at the event. She also called the police and registered a complaint.

A statement from the actor or organisers is awaited.
