Cop accuses inspector of sexual exploitation after leave request

A police constable has accused his senior officer of sexually exploiting him after he requested leave, media outlets reported on Monday.

According to reports, the constable later lodged a complaint on the Citizens Portal, alleging that an inspector posted at the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) office in Lahore sexually assaulted him when he approached him for leave.

He reportedly claimed that after turning down his request, the inspector urged him to remain silent, saying, “Such things often happen.” The constable is now calling for legal action against the officer.

This incident comes months after a uniformed policeman was caught raping a woman who had been begging in Lahore’s Manawan area.

When confronted by a citizen named Sajid, who was also filming him, the officer threw a shoe at him before opening fire. The bullet struck Sajid in the leg, and in the video, he can be heard screaming before showing his bleeding leg on camera.

Locals overpowered the officer and handed him over to Manawan police, while Sajid was taken to hospital for treatment.

Despite his injury, Sajid continued to follow the policeman, who attempted to put on his shoes and flee the scene.

Sarfaraz Ahmed calls out cricketers for criticism on TV

Pakistan’s Champions Trophy-winning captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has criticized cricketers who say one thing in person and another on TV.

During a private TV show, the host asked Sarfaraz why he does not appear on television during cricket events, unlike other cricketers. In response, Sarfaraz said, “I watch my seniors when they play, and they say one thing, but when they sit on TV, they say something else.”

Sarfaraz explained that he prefers to stay on the field rather than sit on media panels. “It’s not that I don’t get offers. During the Champions Trophy, I received two or three offers to do analysis, but I declined because I don’t feel like sitting on TV right now.”

He further added, “I don’t like it when our senior cricketers sit on TV and say things they wouldn’t say in person.”

Sarfaraz said, “Look at what some have said recently. These are the same people who sit, eat, and spend time with these players. When they were playing, they said no one is better than these players, but now that they are not playing, they say these players are not good enough.”

The former captain questioned the hypocrisy, saying, “Either you were wrong then, or you are wrong now. Whatever you say, at least maintain balance.”

Sarfaraz also pointed out that most TV analysts have played with each other at some point. “Many of those sitting on TV do not even have great cricketing records themselves. So, they should speak carefully and remember their own era before making statements.”

It is worth mentioning that the Pakistan cricket team faced severe criticism after their early exit from the Champions Trophy 2025.

Pakistan has lost three out of four T20 matches against New Zealand so far in the ongoing tour.

Bangladesh court orders seizure of Shakib Al Hasan’s assets

A Bangladesh court has ordered the seizure of assets belonging to cricketer and former Awami League MP Shakib Al Hasan in connection with a cheque bounce case.

According to foreign media reports, Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Ziauddin Rahman, issued the order on Monday, directing the confiscation of Shakib’s properties.

Shakib established a shrimp farm in Satkhira, Bangladesh, in 2016, but it has remained inactive since 2021. The bounced cheques were issued to repay a bank loan taken for this business. However, as funds were insufficient, the cheques could not be processed.

Reports indicate that in October 2024, a Bangladeshi bank issued a legal notice regarding the bounced cheques. Later, on 24 December, a case was filed against Shakib and three other officials of his company.

In January, the court issued an arrest warrant for Shakib in connection with the case.

Shakib is currently outside Bangladesh after receiving death threats following political unrest and his association with the Awami League.

Additionally, he was also named in a murder case related to the killing of a young protester during anti-government demonstrations last year.

Internet reacts to President Zardari’s shaky speech on March 23

The internet has reacted to President Asif Ali Zardari’s speech on March 23, which was marked by several fumbles, mispronunciations, awkward pauses, and a trembling voice.

A special parade marking Pakistan Day was held at Aiwan-e-Sadr, with President Asif Ali Zardari as the chief guest.

Contingents of the Pakistan Army, Navy, and Air Force participated and presented a salute. Fighter jets from the Pakistan Air Force performed a fly-past during the event. Foreign diplomats and other dignitaries attended the ceremony.

During the 23rd March Pakistan Day Parade, the President delivered a speech in which he was heard struggling to pronounce certain words, leaving the internet divided, with some mocking him while others were concerned about his health.

One user, while sharing a short clip of the shaky address, captioned it, “Due to being overly excited, the words were slipping away.”

Another asked, “Who wrote such difficult words?” while someone quipped, “Hence Proved that Urdu is indeed a difficult language!”

Some users expressed concern about his health. One wrote, “Not really his mistake. But aged factor. This is the same person who was once consider the master of politics in Pakistan. Despite criticism, his party’s contribution to the Pakistan should also be acknowledge.”

An internet user commented, “Age and health spare no one. Whatever our differences, we should show some humanity,” while another said, “It’s painful to see someone in such a state on such an important occasion. Hope he is okay.”

“No one should have to go through this in front of the whole nation. May he be well,” wrote another user on X (formerly Twitter).

“Broken words, trembling voice, disconnected thoughts, stumbling delivery—in this speech by the President of Pakistan, the country’s democracy is speaking. It is trembling, disjointed, and fragmented, much like the connection the public has with this government and state, which is as distant as the sense (meaning) in President Asif Ali Zardari’s words in this speech,” opined another user.

Despite all the setbacks, the President delivered the speech. “We are a resilient nation capable of overcoming challenges. We will not hesitate to make any sacrifice for the protection of our homeland. We have successfully faced internal and external terrorism and will eradicate it from the root,” Zardari asserted.

Referring to India, President Zardari said it has always viewed Pakistan with hostility, but Pakistan remains committed to becoming a strong, modern Islamic welfare state. He assured that the nation stands united with the armed forces to eliminate the menace of terrorism.

‘We were never friends’: Emraan Hashmi reacts to Javed Sheikh’s claims regarding Jannat shoot

Days after veteran Pakistani actor Javed Sheikh shared his “unpleasant” experience of working with Bollywood star Emraan Hashmi in Hindi film Jannat, the Indian actor has responded to the claims.

During a recent TV appearance, Sheikh said that he found Hashmi’s behaviour cold and unfriendly on the set of Jannat that was released in 2008. He said Hashmi was unlike other Bollywood stars he had worked with, adding, “I did not talk to him at all after filming.”

Reacting to the claims, Hashmi dismissed the allegations, calling them “bizarre”.

“I was in my 20s back then, and he is much older than me. We were never friends and I didn’t hang out with him. But I don’t recall anything like this happening,” he said.

Hashmi added that he didn’t know what Sheikh had taken back with him. “[…] But he has held on to it for 16-17 years. As far as I’m concerned, this is just a misunderstanding that has now blown out of proportion.”

Jannat was a crime-romance film starring Emraan Hashmi, Javed Sheikh and debut actress Sonal Chauhan. Directed by Kunal Deshmukh, the film was a box office success and received positive reviews.

  • Dhoni breaks silence on IPL retirement rumours

Dhoni breaks silence on IPL retirement rumours

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has addressed speculation about his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, making it clear that he has no plans to step away from the tournament.

“If I am in a wheelchair, I will still be part of the league,” Dhoni stated firmly, shutting down all rumours about his IPL future.

The legendary cricketer is set to play his 18th IPL season with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Having led the team to five IPL titles, Dhoni has now passed on the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Since retiring from international cricket in 2020, speculation about Dhoni’s IPL future has been the subject of much discussion.

However, he reassured fans, saying, “This is my franchise. Even if I am in a wheelchair, they will still pick me.”

Dhoni also spoke about his long-standing relationship with Virat Kohli, which has evolved from a captain-young player dynamic to a close friendship.

“It was always an honest exchange of ideas, whether a certain approach was right or if an adjustment could have been made. Initially, it was more of a relationship between a captain and a young player, but over time, as we kept interacting, we became friends.

“Even today, we share that bond, though there’s always a line of respect between a senior and a junior. Now that neither of us is captain, we get more time to talk before matches,” he said.

Dhoni also praised IPL broadcasters for introducing regional language commentary, calling it an interesting addition to the tournament.

“Listening to commentary gives you an outsider’s perspective. It sparks new ideas like ‘Why don’t we try this approach?’…which can then be evaluated based on intelligence and data to see if it fits within the team’s strategy,” he said.

“I haven’t heard a lot of regional commentary, but I know that Bihari (Bhojpuri) commentary is highly energetic. It reminds me of old-school radio commentary, where the commentators were very involved. I find that very interesting,” he added.

Meanwhile, Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar believes Dhoni can silence his critics even now.

“Why do we want to pressure him by constantly asking about retirement? Every time people question him, he proves them wrong,” Gavaskar remarked.

As CSK embarks on another IPL campaign, Dhoni remains an integral part of the team, not just as a player but as a guiding force in the dressing room.

As per sub-section 1D of section 21 of PECA, a person who “takes a photograph or makes a video of any person and displays and distributes it without his consent in a matter that harms a person.”

The FIR stated that the complainant was lodged when a video went viral on TikTok from an account named Rizwan Singar. “My colleague Jahanzeb, who was on duty with me, also watched the video. The video is related to yesterday’s incident, in which a car was lifted for wrong parking, and a legal challan was issued for the violation,” the FIR read.

The FIR further noted that the owner of Hussain Autos, whose name is unknown, created a malicious and false video about the incident and posted it on TikTok, adding that the action was done to incite public hatred and provoke people against the police, which is a punishable offence under the PECA Act 2016.

The federal government introduced and passed the amendments to the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act in January 2025.

The new amendments add Section 26(A) to Peca, which seeks to penalise perpetrators of “fake news” online. It says anyone who intentionally spreads, displays, or transmits false information likely to cause fear, panic, or unrest in society may face up to three years imprisonment, a fine of up to Rs2 million, or both.

Last week, the Rawalpindi Police filed another case under the Peca and arrested the accused, Muhammad Rehan, for an inappropriate post on social media. He added that the accused was later shifted to jail.
