VIDEO: Former boxing world champion caught assaulting husband

Former World Champion boxer Saweety Boora was caught on camera attacking her husband, kabaddi player Deepak Niwas Hooda, inside a police station in Haryana’s Hisar.

The incident took place on 15 March while they were going through divorce proceedings.

Boora had filed for divorce earlier, accusing Hooda of harassment and assault over dowry. In a video that surfaced on social media, she can be seen grabbing Hooda by the throat during a heated argument. Family members had to step in to separate them, but the fight continued inside the police station.

Saweety Boora had already lodged an FIR against Hooda, accusing him and his family of demanding dowry and physically assaulting her. She claimed that Hooda had asked for a luxury car, which was given, but he still mistreated her and demanded more money.

The FIR was registered under Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with cruelty by a husband or his family towards a woman.

When questioned about the case, Hooda defended himself, saying he had not been able to appear at the police station because of health issues caused by stress. He also mentioned that he had requested a later date to present his side but refused to speak negatively about his wife.

The police confirmed that Hooda had been summoned multiple times but had not appeared.

Saweety Boora and Deepak Hooda got married in 2022.

Hooda, an Arjuna awardee, is a well-known kabaddi player who has represented India in international tournaments. He won a gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games and a bronze at the 2014 Asian Games. He has also played in the Pro Kabaddi League.

Apart from sports, Hooda contested the 2024 Haryana assembly elections as a BJP candidate from Meham but was unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, Saweety won the gold medal at the 2023 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and the silver medal at the 2014 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in the light heavyweight category.

Maryam Nawaz suspends Jinnah Hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Principal

Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday suspended the Medical Superintendent (MS) and Principal of Jinnah Hospital following complaints from patients and their attendants about the unavailability of free medicines and essential medical tests.

A video of her surprise visit to the hospital emerged online yesterday, showing the CM inspecting the hospital’s medicine store and emergency ward, personally engaging with patients and their attendants.
As per media reports, the chief minister examined medical prescriptions and inquired about the availability of medicines and other healthcare facilities, including medical tests.

While further interacting with patients and their families in the emergency ward, she inquired about the availability of medicines and medical tests. Many patients expressed grievances, stating that they were forced to purchase medicines from outside despite hospital policies ensuring free medication.

Responding to complaints, Maryam Nawaz instructed hospital staff to take urgent corrective measures.

Meanwhile, after witnessing the situation firsthand, the Chief Minister acted swiftly, holding hospital authorities accountable. She assured patients that the government is committed to improving public healthcare facilities and will not tolerate any mismanagement that compromises patient welfare.

“Providing citizens with quality and timely healthcare is the government’s top priority,” she stated, warning that negligence will not be tolerated.

Maryam Nawaz’s surprise visit was not the first of its type, as earlier this month, she suspended the Mayo Hospital Lahore MS Dr Faisal Masood over complaints against the administration involving poor treatment facilities.

In a video that went viral, Maryam Nawaz, accompanied by Provincial Specialised Healthcare Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, and senior health officials, was heard inquiring about Masood’s appointment as the MS of the hospital.

“The guy needs to be fired,” she ordered while pointing her finger at him.

“You should be thankful that I am not having you arrested,” she said to the MS, adding that Masood was unaware of the patients’ conditions in the hospital.

According to media reports, the Chief Minister visited the emergency block, tuberculosis (TB) and chest ward, intensive care unit (ICU), cardiology, and other areas of the hospital. She also inquired about the patient’s well-being. Patients and their attendants complained about the lack of facilities in the hospital.

She said the people visiting the hospital for treatment were suffering, and their complaints were not being addressed, while the administration was ignorant of the conditions faced by the patients.

  • Pet dog helps police in solving owner’s murder

Pet dog helps police in solving owner’s murder

A pet dog proved his exceptional loyalty by unearthing its owner Umer Hayat’s body after he had been killed and burned in a garbage dump, a leading English daily has reported.

Residents of a village in Chichawatni observed a pet dog digging away in a burnt garbage dump on February 18. Some time later, the dog unearthed human feet from the rubbish and alerted villagers and a landlord named Nadeem Abbas Shah, who had employed Umer to work at his farm.

Police investigations revealed that Umer’s wife Shamim and her brother Fida Hussain murdered Umer between the nights of February 13 and 14, disfigured his face so that he could not be recognised and then burning his body in a garbage dump, setting it on fire to conceal the killing.

Both the siblings were arrested on Monday.

The police were alerted on February 18 about the presence of human remains by Bilal Nawaz, a resident of the village, who had seen the dog digging up the garbage. Police arrived at the scene and discovered a decomposed and unidentifiable body in the rubbish heap.

Despite an autopsy, the body remained unidentified till police received a tip from the villagers who said Umer Hayat worked at Nadeem Abbas’ farm. There, the police was told that Umer had worked at the farm along with his wife Shamim and four children since two years. He was originally a resident of Multan and was often referred to as Multani.

Nadeem Abbas told the police that Umer had left the job a few days before the body was discovered and shifted back to Khanewal, his wife’s hometown.

Umer’s mother was contacted by the police who admitted that her son was missing but did not identify the feet as belonging to her son. A few days after police questioned them on not reporting Umer’s absence and taking DNA samples, the mother identified the feet.

Further investigations revealed that while Shamim said she left the farm with her husband, she arrived in her village only with her children and her brother Fida Hussain.

Police unearthed evidence that both Shamim and Umer had been having affairs. Shamim finally confessed to the police that Umer had confronted her on the affair and been violent with her. She had then recruited her brother Fida Hussain to kill Umer, disfiguring his face with bricks, and burning his body in the garbage.

Both the brother and sister now await trial.
