  • ‘They left no legacy behind’: Mohammad Hafeez lashes out at Pakistan’s 90s cricketers

‘They left no legacy behind’: Mohammad Hafeez lashes out at Pakistan’s 90s cricketers

Former Pakistan cricket captain Mohammad Hafeez has taken a dig at cricketers from the 1990s, claiming they left no legacy behind as they failed to win any ICC tournaments for Pakistan.

Speaking on a TV program, Hafeez criticised their poor performances in the 1996, 1999, and 2003 ICC events, saying, “We could have won at least one final, but it didn’t happen.”

He acknowledged, “Past players were mega superstars, but they failed to inspire by winning an ICC trophy. Things improved later, and in 2009, we won an ICC event under Younis Khan’s captaincy.”

Hafeez further stated, “If people look up to Babar Azam today, it is because he was part of the 2017 Champions Trophy-winning team, which played a huge role in reviving Pakistan cricket.”

He expressed disappointment, saying, “Unfortunately, cricketers from the 90s failed to fulfil Pakistan’s dream of winning major ICC tournaments.”

Sitting alongside Hafeez in the studio was former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar, who was not pleased with the remarks and responded, “Hafeez has generalised all players, but let me remind him—those 73 ODI wins that put us above India today, we were the ones who won them!”

Earlier, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt spoke out against Shoaib Akhtar’s harsh criticism of Babar Azam following his poor performance in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Earlier, Akhtar had called Babar a “fraud” after the batsman went through a dip in form, blaming him for not leading the team properly.

Known for his blunt remarks, Shoaib Akhtar suggested that Babar’s struggles were not just temporary but a result of deeper flaws in his technique. He also compared Babar to Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli, pointing out that Kohli’s inspiration was Sachin Tendulkar, who had 100 international centuries. Akhtar had said, “Who was Babar Azam’s role model? Let’s not name any cricketer, but he had chosen the wrong role models. His thought process was wrong. He was a fraud from the beginning.”

Salman Butt, who had played alongside Shoaib Akhtar in the past, strongly disagreed with the speedster. He defended Babar, saying that every player went through tough phases, and it was unfair to judge him based on a temporary slump.

Speaking on a private TV channel, Butt said, “Shoaib was one of the best talents Pakistan ever produced, and if he had reconsidered what he said, he would have called it the heat of the moment. But he shouldn’t have said that.”

Salman vociferously defended the beleaguered batsman, saying, “Babar was struggling with form, and more than his technical issues, we had gotten into his head. His talent was superior to that of every other batter we had, and we had even wasted it because of all this criticism. He was not Kohli, he was not Root, and he was not Williamson, but he was the best we had.”

Babar had often been the main target of criticism whenever the Pakistan team underperformed, even though the entire squad struggled.

Interestingly, while Pakistani experts continued to criticize him, cricketing legends from other countries defended him.

  • Astrologer predicts Saif & Kareena’s divorce

Astrologer predicts Saif & Kareena’s divorce

An Indian astrologer has made a surprising prediction, claiming that Bollywood power couple Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan may separate within a year and a half.

Kareena and Saif, considered one of Bollywood’s happiest couples, tied the knot in 2012. They are parents to two sons, Taimur and Jehangir. However, astrologer Sushil Kumar Singh’s prediction about their relationship has left fans concerned.

According to Indian media, Singh recently stated in an interview, “Saif and Kareena will separate in the next year and a half.” He also recalled a prediction he made in 2010, saying, “I wrote in my blog back then that this marriage will not work because their horoscopes indicate separation.”

Singh further linked his prophecy to the recent attack on Saif Ali Khan at his Mumbai residence, which left the actor seriously injured. Saif later underwent surgery at Lilavati Hospital and has since taken additional security measures for his family.

Regarding the incident, Singh commented, “This could be an internal matter that may not be resolved. No matter how much you try to deny it, the horoscope clearly shows a separation between Saif and Kareena soon.”

Neither Saif, Kareena, nor their family members have responded to the astrologer’s prediction or the media reports surrounding it.

‘You are the past, won’t ever play again’: Babar Azam’s father hits out at former cricketers, defends son

Star batter and former Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam’s father, Azam Siddique, has once again come forward to defend his son against widespread criticism over poor performance in recent months, especially during the Champions Trophy.

In a statement on social media, Siddique addressed the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to rest Babar for the upcoming series against New Zealand, and pointed out that his son was dropped despite being a member of the ICC T20 Team of the Year.

He assured fans that Babar would make a comeback by performing in the National T20 Cup and PSL, and also urged former cricketers to be mindful of their words. “I request ex-players to choose their words carefully. If someone responds, you may not be able to tolerate it. You are the past and will never play again,” he wrote.

He also addressed criticism over his support for Babar. “People say ‘the father’ talks too much. I am Babar’s first and last coach. I am his spokesperson and mentor. Above all, I am his well-wishing father.”

“Those who are making noise should check their performances from their playing days. Just visit PCB’s website once — hints are enough for the wise,” he said.

  • New Trump policy likely to ban US entry for Pakistanis from next week: reports

New Trump policy likely to ban US entry for Pakistanis from next week: reports

Based on a government review of the country’s security and vetting, a new travel ban imposed by President Donald Trump could prevent people from Pakistan and Afghanistan from entering the United States (US) as early as next week.

According to Reuters, other countries might also be included on the list. However, the country names were not mentioned.

This action recalls the Republican president’s initial travel ban on citizens from seven majority-Muslim countries, a policy that underwent multiple revisions before being upheld by the Supreme Court in 2018.

Former President Joe Biden repealed the ban in 2021, calling it “a stain on our national conscience”.

The new ban could affect tens of thousands of Afghans who have been cleared for resettlement in the US as refugees or on Special Immigrant Visas because they are at risk of Taliban retribution for working for the country during a 20-year war in their home country, Reuters said.

Trump issued an executive order on January 20 requiring intensified security vetting of any foreigners seeking admission to the US to detect national security threats. The order directed several cabinet members to submit by March 12 a list of countries from which travel should be partly or fully suspended because their “vetting and screening information is so deficient”.

Afghanistan will be included in the recommended list of countries for a complete travel ban, and Pakistan would also be recommended for inclusion, Reuters reported.

Afghans cleared for resettlement in the U.S. as refugees or on the special visas first undergo intense screening that makes them “more highly vetted than any population” in the world.

The State Department office that oversees their resettlement is seeking an exemption for Special Immigrant Visa holders from the travel ban “but it’s not assumed likely to be granted,” Reuters reported citing sources.

The Taliban, who seized Kabul as the last US troops pulled out in August 2021 after two decades of war, are confronting an insurgency by Islamic State’s regional branch. Pakistan also is grappling with violent Islamist militants.

Shawn VanDiver, the head of #AfghanEvac, a coalition of groups that coordinates evacuation and resettlement of Afghans with the US government, urged those holding valid visas to travel as soon as possible if they can.

There are some 200,000 Afghans who have been approved for resettlement or have pending US refugee and Special Immigrant Visa applications. They have been stranded in Afghanistan and nearly 90 other countries — including about 20,000 in Pakistan — since January 20, when Trump ordered a 90-day freeze on refugee admissions and foreign aid that funds their flights.

‘Women were filming me while I was praying’; Shaista Lodhi on the battle for privacy

Actor and host Shaista Lodhi recently shared her experience of people filming her while she was praying in Riaz Ul Jannah at Masjid-e-Nabwi in Madina.

She shared her experience during an appearance on AAN TV’s Bahar-e-Ramzan iftar show alongside host Faysal Quraishi. The two discussed the challenges celebrities face regarding privacy in public spaces.

Shaista recalled, “In Riaz Ul Jannah, women get limited time slots. During that time, they’re in a different state, unaware of themselves. I was praying on the side, and women were taking videos, asking, ‘What are you doing here?’”

Faysal humorously responded, “Didn’t you say you put up a biryani stall here?”

Shaista added, “I was praying namaz in hateem, and people were secretly taking videos. What will they do with my video? Some thought I used contacts to get there, but I was simply in line. I didn’t even know I’d be able to pray in hateem that day.”

Faysal explained that fans sometimes unintentionally say odd things in an attempt to start a conversation, adding, “This is why elders tell us to think before we speak.”

He also shared stories of his friends being awkwardly approached by strangers with bizarre questions during Umrah.

Earlier in the show, Shaista shared why she no longer hosts morning shows, explaining that the routine felt boring, and she wanted to try something new. She also shared how hosting morning shows affected her personal life.

“You end up with no social life. Your personal and emotional life suffers — you don’t know where things are going. You don’t even get time to reflect on yourself,” she said.

Shaista previously hosted Good Morning Pakistan on ARY Digital and Utho Jago Pakistan on Geo TV.

  • Trump thanks Pakistan but leaves PTI supporters reeling

Trump thanks Pakistan but leaves PTI supporters reeling

United States (US) President Donald Trump thanked Pakistan for its role in arresting the mastermind behind the 2021 Kabul Airport bombing in an address to Congress, pulling off a major surprise in the country’s political circles where many had expected him to admonish Pakistan for imprisoning former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Speaking to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, the US President announced the arrest and imminent extradition of the suspect, Mohammad Sharifullah.

“Three and a half years ago, ISIS terrorists killed 13 American service members and many others during the Abbey Gate bombing. Tonight, I am pleased to announce that we have apprehended the top terrorist responsible for that atrocity, and he is now on his way to face American justice. I especially want to thank the Government of Pakistan for helping to arrest this monster.”

On August 26, 2021, a bombing at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul during the final days of the US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan killed 13 American soldiers and at least 113 Afghan civilians. Islamic State-Khorasan (ISIS-K) had claimed responsibility for the attack.

Later in the day, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth also praised Pakistan for helping capture the terrorist.

Speaking on an American-based news channel on Wednesday, he said, “Special thanks to Pakistan indeed. They cooperated with us. We partnered with the Pakistanis based on intelligence,” adding that the US provided the information, and Pakistan carried out the arrest and confirmed the identity of Sharifullah.

For some of PTI’s most vocal supporters who had been promising an intervention in Imran Khan’s incarceration by the American President, Trump’s statement prompted a host of reactions, ranging from silence to denial.

A PTI follower took to X (formerly Twitter), claiming that the Abbey Bomber was arrested in 2021 during Imran Khan’s tenure. “The institutions kept him safe so that he could be released at the right time for a good price. There are many more such people in their custody. In that sense, the thanks should go to Imran Khan’s government,” he wrote.

Shahzad Akbar wrote a lengthy article on X, where he accused Pakistan’s agencies of playing a “double game” with the US. A few days earlier he had castigated supporters of the ruling PML-N for suggesting that Ukrainian President Zelensky has been “insulted” by Donald Trump because he doesn’t have an army or an atom bomb. “Why don’t you send one of your people to check,” he tweeted, suggesting that Pakistani representatives would have been insulted too.

Hussain Nadim, who had appeared on a podcast in February to assert that the Trump administration was giving warning “signals” to the Pakistani government, wrote now on X: “Pakistan is celebrating becoming a ‘hire gun’ as some kind of achievement, knowing full well the price Pakistan and its people have paid and will continue to pay for these security contracts. This isn’t progress, this is a return to Zia era.”

Former Special Assistant to Prime Minister Shahbaz Gill, who has been most active in the US in rallying support for Imran Khan’s release, addressed Trump’s statement after a few hours in a cryptic tweet.  “Your opponents are very cunning and deceptive. You don’t need to respond to everything, nor should you be worried. Such things happen in big battles. Some things must be ignored. You all are wise enough to understand the rest.”

  • PCB shares injury update on Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub

PCB shares injury update on Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has released an update regarding the fitness of injured national team openers Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman.

During the Test series against South Africa, Saim Ayub suffered an ankle injury while fielding. Doctors advised him to rest for six weeks, ruling him out of the ICC Champions Trophy. Considering his recovery timeline, he was unable to secure a spot in the Pakistan squad.

Meanwhile, Fakhar Zaman had been absent from the series against Australia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe due to fitness concerns. However, he made a comeback to the national team and was also named in Pakistan’s Champions Trophy squad.

Unfortunately, Fakhar sustained an injury on February 19 during Pakistan’s opening match against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy, which forced him to withdraw from the tournament. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at Lahore’s National Cricket Academy (NCA).

In an official statement, the PCB confirmed that owing to medical reasons, neither of the two openers was considered for selection in any format for the recent series.

However, the board expects both players to be fully fit in time for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10, which is set to begin on April 11, 2025, in Rawalpindi.

  • Gautam Gambhir ‘not satisfied’ with Indian team despite making it to final

Gautam Gambhir ‘not satisfied’ with Indian team despite making it to final

India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, is not easily satisfied, and the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy proves that. Even after securing a place in the final, Gambhir remains unimpressed with his team’s performance.

According to Indian media reports, after India’s four-wicket victory over Australia in the semi-final on Tuesday, Gambhir addressed the press, making it clear that he still expects improvement.

“Look, in international cricket, you always want to improve. You can never say that you have become perfect,” Gambhir stated during the post-match press conference.

He further added, “We haven’t played our best cricket yet, and I will never be completely satisfied with our performance.”

Looking ahead to the final, the Indian head coach emphasized the importance of maintaining a winning mentality. “We still have one more game to go. Hopefully, we can play our best cricket in that match,” he said.

Gambhir also highlighted his team’s competitive approach, explaining, “We want to keep improving and be ruthless on the field against our opponents. However, off the field, we want to remain humble.”

The ICC Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand is set to take place on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

  • VIDEO: Teenage girl abducted from DHA Lahore for ‘refusing marriage proposal’

VIDEO: Teenage girl abducted from DHA Lahore for ‘refusing marriage proposal’

A teenage girl was abducted from the posh Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area of Lahore and remains missing for over three weeks now, a viral video on social media has suggested.

According to journalist Murtaza Ali Shah, six armed men abducted 16-year-old Muskaan in broad daylight from Phase I of DHA Lahore on Feb 12.

“A 16-year-old girl was abducted by six armed men from DHA Lahore in broad daylight on Feb 12 and remains missing — she was kidnapped after refusing the marriage proposal. Her family is in unbearable pain, pleading for Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to take action. The family has given full details of the kidnappers to the police, but the police is not taking any action. The family has called on chief minister Punjab @maryamnawazofficial @govtofpunjabpk to look into this matter and rescue the young girl [sic],” the journalist wrote as he shared an undated video message from the purported victim’s father.

In the video message, the man who introduces himself as Raj Muhammad can be seen as claiming that armed men abducted his daughter while she was headed to a tuition centre with her brother on Feb 12, Wednesday.

“My daughter was headed to the academy [tuition centre] with my younger son when five to six men on a white car came and kidnapped her on gunpoint,” Muhammad said. He then goes on to say that his daughter has been missing since, and pleads to authorities, including the Punjab chief executive, for immediate recovery of the minor.

While there hasn’t been an official statement on the case as of yet, a viral CCTV footage is also widely being shared with unverified claims, allegedly showing how the abduction unfolded.

It merits a mention that this is the second incident of its kind over the past couple of weeks as a 17-year-old girl was also allegedly abducted by unidentified individuals in the South Cantt area of Lahore in late January.

The police had registered a case, launching efforts to recover the girl and apprehend the suspects.

Police said the victim, identified as Huma, a resident of North Cantt, went missing under mysterious circumstances while on her way to the market.

The girl’s brother, Bilal, had filed a complaint, stating that she left home for shopping but did not return. He suspected that unidentified persons abducted her from the market.

  • Shamoon Abbasi, Faizan Sheikh support Fahad Mustafa in feud with Rajab Butt

Shamoon Abbasi, Faizan Sheikh support Fahad Mustafa in feud with Rajab Butt

Pakistani YouTuber Rajab Butt has once again landed in controversy after his response to actor Fahad Mustafa’s criticism of family vlogging. The debate began when Fahad remarked that family vloggers were “selling their families” for content.

In response, Rajab Butt dismissed the superstar’s significance, saying he didn’t even know who Fahad Mustafa was.

Rajab further added that he doesn’t respect individuals who fail to act like seniors, indirectly criticizing Fahad. His comments quickly went viral, triggering reactions from both fans and celebrities.

Renowned actor Shamoon Abbasi stepped in to defend Fahad Mustafa, addressing Rajab Butt in a respectful yet firm manner. He acknowledged Fahad’s two-decade-long career and highlighted the struggles actors endure in the industry.

“Fahad Mustafa is a big name. He has been working in the industry for over 20 years,” Shamoon stated. “Actors leave their homes early, searching for work, locations, and payments. It is difficult for you to understand their journey.”

He also pointed out that digital creators rely heavily on social media platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. “If these platforms shut down, what will you guys do? But Fahad Mustafa will still have work,” he pointed out.

Actor Faizan Sheikh also spoke out against Rajab Butt’s remarks, calling them disappointing. He shared a clip of Rajab’s interview on Instagram, where the vlogger first claimed he didn’t know Fahad Mustafa but later mentioned Jeeto Pakistan, Fahad’s uber-popular game show.

“Whether you like it or not, the person you deny knowing is famous, respected, and loved globally,” Faizan wrote. “Such an attitude reflects the mindset of our society.”

He further emphasized Fahad Mustafa’s contributions, stating that the actor has made Pakistan proud on an international level since Rajab was a child. He urged the vlogger to show respect to those whom God has blessed with success.

Shamoon Abbasi’s composed response has received praise, with many calling his words well-structured and humble. Meanwhile, Faizan Sheikh’s remarks have also gained traction, with fans supporting his strong stance in defense of Fahad Mustafa.
