  • Jason Gillespie calls Pakistan head coach Aaqib Javed a ‘clown’

Jason Gillespie calls Pakistan head coach Aaqib Javed a ‘clown’

Former Pakistan Test cricket team head coach and Australian Test cricketer Jason Gillespie has launched a scathing attack on the national team’s current head coach, Aaqib Javed, calling him a clown and accusing him of running a secret campaign to secure the coaching role for all formats.

He shared an Instagram story, making serious allegations against Aaqib Javed.

Gillespie wrote, “This is hilarious. Aaqib clearly undermined Gary and me behind the scenes, campaigning to be the coach in all formats. He is a clown.”

Back in December 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chose not to extend the contract of assistant coach Tim Nielsen for the South Africa tour. This decision upset Jason Gillespie, who refused to travel with the team, leading to his fallout with PCB. As a result, Aaqib was appointed as the interim head coach of the Pakistan Test team.

Earlier, in November 2024, PCB had named Aaqib as the interim head coach of the white-ball team until the Champions Trophy 2025.

Meanwhile, in October 2024, Gary Kirsten resigned as Pakistan’s white-ball head coach following conflicts with both PCB and Aaqib Javed, which led to his departure.

Under Aaqib, Pakistan faced an early exit from the Champions Trophy, losing to New Zealand and India. Their third match against Bangladesh was washed out due to rain.

Mushfiqur Rahim retires from ODI cricket

Bangladesh’s veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim has announced on Wednesday that he is retiring from One Day International (ODI) cricket.

The experienced cricketer, who holds the record for playing the most ODIs for Bangladesh with 274 matches, posted the announcement on social media.

In a statement, Mushfiqur expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and fans, saying, “I sincerely thank my family, friends, and supporters for being with me throughout my 19-year cricketing journey.”

Mushfiqur Rahim, who also captained the Bangladesh team in the past, has had an illustrious career. In his 274 ODI matches, he scored 7,795 runs, including nine centuries and 49 half-centuries. He is Bangladesh’s second-highest run-scorer in ODIs, only behind Tamim Iqbal, who has scored 8,357 runs.

Apart from his batting achievements, Mushfiqur also holds the record for the most dismissals as a wicketkeeper for Bangladesh in ODIs. He has 299 dismissals, which include 243 catches and 56 stumpings.

Mushfiqur had already retired from T20I cricket two years ago but will continue to play Test cricket. He is close to achieving another milestone, as he needs six more Test matches to become the first Bangladeshi cricketer to play 100 Test matches.

On the same day, Australian batter Steven Smith also retired from ODI cricket.

  • Newly constructed Erdogan Interchange link road collapses after rain

Newly constructed Erdogan Interchange link road collapses after rain

The newly constructed link road of the Recep Tayyip Erdogan Interchange in Islamabad has reportedly partially collapsed after heavy rains pummelled the city, with videos showing potholes on the road going viral on social media.

Multiple workers can be seen in the video, repairing the road with heavy machinery scattered across the surface.

The project, worth Rs4.1 billion, has two components — a flyover and an underpass at the junction of Jinnah Avenue and 9th Avenue. The project included the construction of 4.3 kilometres of roads connected to sector F-10 and the installation of two kilometres of drains for rainwater drainage.

On February 19, 2025, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the Recep Tayyip Erdogan Interchange at Jinnah Avenue.

As per Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the project was initially planned for completion in six months. However, the timeline was first shortened to 120 days, then 100 days. The project was finally finished in just 84 days.

The government wanted to name one of the underpasses of Serena Interchange after Erdogan; however, later on, it was decided that instead of one underpass of the Serena project, the entire Jinnah Avenue project should be named after the Turkish president, as both countries enjoyed a close relationship.

Social media users have raised concerns about the quality of work on the link road at Tayyip Erdogan Interchange in Islamabad. One user took to X (formerly Twitter), writing, “The road of the recently constructed Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Interchange in Islamabad, built in record time, collapsed after just one rainfall. On one side, a nighttime video shows a large pothole on the road, while on the other side, a morning video shows the pothole being filled.”

Another user quipped, “Someone should inform Tayyip Erdoğan that the flyover named after him in Islamabad collapsed after the very first rainfall.”

“There is always room for improvement in construction projects. Hopefully, precautions will be taken in the future,” said a third user.

FACT CHECK: PCB offering free entry to second Champions Trophy semi-final?

Some media reports have claimed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is offering both free entry and free Iftar to fans attending the ICC Champions Trophy semi-final at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

However, the PCB has clarified that while free Iftar will be provided, match entry remains ticketed.

Contrary to the claims, PCB has confirmed that only Iftar will be provided free of cost, not the entry ticket.

Spectators who have purchased tickets for the match will be eligible to receive a free Iftar box. The box will include dates, juice, and mini pizza.

Fans will also have the option to buy additional food and drinks from the stadium’s food stalls. The match is scheduled to start at 2:00 PM, with Iftar at 6:05 PM.

The second semi-final is being played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Wednesday, where New Zealand has won the toss and decided to bat first against South Africa.

This celebrity couple makes sure to speak only Urdu at home

Celebrity couple Iqra Aziz and Yasir Hussain have revealed that they made sure their son Kabir Hussain learned Urdu as his first language instead of English.

While appearing on a Ramzan special TV show, the couple shared how they prioritized Urdu at home to ensure their son speaks the language fluently, even though many parents focus on teaching English to their kids.

“He goes to an English medium school, so he has learned English from his teachers and classmates,” Iqra explained. “But at home, we only speak Urdu.”

Yasir added, “We make sure to communicate in Urdu at home.” He recalled an incident on set when an actor suggested teaching Kabir English instead of Urdu. “But I thought he must be fluent in Urdu first. English can be learned later. I see many people around me who can’t speak Urdu fluently, which I think is wrong.”

She stressed, “Urdu is the basic language and must be learned well. Other languages are secondary.”

Yasir and Iqra, who got married in 2019 after a public proposal at an awards ceremony, welcomed their son Kabir in 2021.

  • Who is responsible for resettling militants? Journalist recalls conversation with Gen (r) Bajwa

Who is responsible for resettling militants? Journalist recalls conversation with Gen (r) Bajwa

Prominent journalist and TV host Mohammad Malick claimed on Tuesday that he had talked two to three times to former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa about the claims that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government had facilitated settling thousands of terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Speaking on his political talk show, the TV host, while responding to Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif’s inquiry about who allowed terrorists to settle in Pakistan, claimed, “I have talked about it two to three times with General Qamar Javed Bajwa.”

The journalist said that on being asked specifically about the resettlement, Bajwa responded that a plan was made to bring and settle 5,000 people, along with their families, in Pakistan; however, the plan was not entertained because Imran Khan’s government was ousted.

Malick quoted Bajwa as saying that following the removal of the PTI government, the plan could not move forward.

In April 2022, Imran Khan was ousted as the country’s premier in a vote of no confidence, which was presented by the opposition parties, including Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and others.

After being removed from the office, former premier Imran Khan called the “move” a “foreign conspiracy.”

Speaking on national security on Tuesday, PM Shehbaz paid tribute to security personnel who sacrificed their lives in the fight against terrorism.

He recalled that in 2018, former Prime Minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif had successfully eradicated terrorism, but it resurged due to certain forces. “Bringing back terrorists is the worst form of treason,” he had remarked.

The journalist’s statement came hours after terrorists drove two explosives-laden vehicles into the perimeter of Bannu Cantonment on Tuesday evening in an attempt to enter the high-security zone, costing at least 11 people, including five women and four children, their lives.

A leading English Newspaper claimed that six assaulters were killed in the ensuing shootout, which took place in the jurisdiction of the Bannu Cantonment police station.

According to official sources, the explosions were followed by “an unspecified number of militants” during an attempt to infiltrate the camp, leading to a gun battle.

“The attack started at 6:30pm, minutes after Iftar. Militants fired RPGs and grenades during the attack; additional troops and SSG commandoes have been rushed to the area,” the statement added.

Sources also confirmed that 10 security men were among the wounded. The wounded were evacuated to the District Headquarters (DHQ) and Khalifa Gul Nawaz (KGN) hospitals in Bannu, while the injured troops were moved to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

MrBeast denies viral misquote, calls out fake news

Famous YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, is facing criticism over a viral claim that he said, “Life is so much easier when you’re broke.”

However, he has denied ever making this statement and is pushing back against misinformation.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), MrBeast addressed the controversy, saying, “A news site lied and said I said ‘life is so much easier when you’re broke,’ which I didn’t say. Now I’m waking up to millions of people believing the lie and hating me. Being famous is so much fun.”

The misquote spread quickly, sparking backlash. In response, MrBeast shared a video of his actual interview with Kotaku, proving the claim was false.

“Here’s what I actually said, It’s such a shame that only a small percentage of the people who saw the slanderous article will see this. Sigh,” he wrote.

Even after clarifying, he admitted that once false news spreads, it’s difficult to contain. So far, the news site that published the alleged misquote has not responded.

  • Muslims have iftar at Windsor Castle for the first time in 1000 years

Muslims have iftar at Windsor Castle for the first time in 1000 years

In a historic first, Windsor Castle, one of the most important seats of the British monarchy, has welcomed guests for an open Iftar, providing Muslims the opportunity to break their Ramadan fast within the esteemed halls of the royal residence. The gathering took place on Sunday in the magnificent St George’s Hall, where more than 350 individuals came together to participate in the meaningful event.

For numerous attendees, the experience felt almost surreal. “The atmosphere is incredible – it hardly feels real,” one participant commented, capturing the significance of the event.

The event at Windsor Castle was organized by the Ramadan Tent Project, a charity based in London committed to promoting community spirit through open Iftar gatherings.

Simon Maples, the director of visitor operations at Windsor Castle, highlighted King Charles’ enduring dedication to interfaith dialogue and religious inclusion. “The King has consistently advocated for religious diversity and promotes open discussions among different faiths,” he stated.

St George’s Hall, which is typically used for state banquets and significant royal events, hosted a unique display of unity as the call to prayer filled the space. As the moment of breaking the fast approached, guests adhered to tradition by consuming dates and offering prayers.

For many, the experience of entering the royal residence as part of a religious observation was truly memorable. “It’s extremely generous of the Royal Family to invite us into their home,” one participant noted, while another expressed their surprise, saying, “We never imagined we would be here breaking our fast. It symbolizes how far we’ve progressed.”

One of the attendees was a history graduate, who found the experience particularly meaningful. “I studied history at university, but I never imagined I’d be breaking my fast inside Windsor Castle. It’s an honor to identify my Muslim faith with such a significant setting.”

Another visitor, who was making their first visit to Windsor Castle, was equally moved: “Being here for the first time and doing so in an Islamic way—it’s just amazing.”

The warmth and acceptance of the evening even generated an invitation from one visitor, who playfully welcomed the King to join them for Iftar anytime. “We’ve got 30 days of Ramadan—just let us know when you’re ready!”

Omar Salha, the founder and CEO of the Ramadan Tent Project, hailed the King’s commitment to promoting unity. “His Majesty is a remarkable ambassador for interfaith harmony, and we are deeply grateful for his support of the British Muslim community.”

The event was part of a larger project that hosted open Iftars across the UK, bringing people of all faiths and backgrounds together to share the spirit of Ramadan. From England to Scotland, Wales to Northern Ireland, the message was clear: Ramadan is a season of unity, and this gathering at Windsor Castle demonstrated that inclusivity in action.

Windsor Castle, though not the official residence of the British monarchs, was one of Queen Elizabeth’s favourite residences. St George’s Chapel, located inside the castle, was the site of the funeral of both the Queen and her husband Prince Philip. The two are buried at the Chapel alongside a host of other Royals including King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. It is also the site of many important royal events, including the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

After much speculation by fans, renowned comedian and talk show host Tabish Hashmi has opened up about why superstar Fawad Khan has not appeared on his hit show ‘Hasna Mana Hai’.

In an interview with a media outlet, he stated, “Almost all other artists have appeared on my show, some even twice, but Fawad Khan has never come.”

When asked about Fawad Khan’s absence, Tabish explained, “I think Fawad Khan is a serious man in terms of my show. I’m sure he wouldn’t fit into the format.”
